Title: New Plan 9 Riff
Post by: Insert Coin(s) to Continue on January 10, 2008, 02:07:19 PM
So I've been hearing talk around the forum that Mike, Bill, and Kevin are going to release their new RiffTrax for Plan 9 from Outer Space sometime in the future. Will it be a recording of their live show or will it be studio recorded? Also, for those of us who don't have the Mike solo track, what would you recommend we do? I plan to buy the physical DVD from Legend Films and then the RiffTrax commentary of the new version, but will the new version come in a .riff format or will it only be available via VOD? Is there any advantage to doing it either way?

It's going to be released VOD as well as the standard mp3 and .riff way.  I'd recommend getting the Legend dvd, I'm happy with mine, and the mike-solo commentary was funny, if very different from what Rifftrax has grown into.

And you know this ... how? ;)

That does sound like what's going to happen.

As far as the live riff, not sure what's going to be done about that.

Conor mentioned something similar (http://forrestcrow.proboards47.com/index.cgi?board=rifftrax&action=display&thread=1197407782) in the MST3K discussion board too.
Cant wait!!

I, too, am really looking forward to this. I really liked Mike's solo commentary on this one, but the back-and-forth of the three riffers should take this one to a whole new level!

Yeah, the word on the street seems pretty accurate.  We are going to record the Plan 9 script after the live performance, after removing all "cricket chirp" reaction jokes and replacing them with much funnier stuff.  So it will be a studio recording, and will probably still be a bit different than the live performance.  The best way to go is to use the Legend DVD, because as someone mentioned, then you get the solo commentary, and I would doubt that the .riff will work with any other version of the DVD.  They come signed if you buy them here:  http://shop.rifftrax.com/dvds/plan-9-outer-space-signed-dvd

Also, it will be available as VOD.

Legend Films.  There has never been an "s" in Legend.

Well now, this will be my first TRIPLE dip on the same movie.

I have a Plan 9 DVD (with some pretty interesting extras) that I got a few years ago, I have the Legend release Mike signed copy and I will get the VOD version.

This is probably more spent on seeing the movie than in it's original theatrical run.

Will we get a new Child board for the new release? or should we use this one? or perhaps bump this one to the start of the line?

Is the live performance going to show the Legend colorized version or the classic B&W?

I think the Casto's website says something about a 35mm print, which I'm guessing is still in B&W.
