Title: So...when's the next Rifftrax?
Post by: mrbasehart on November 02, 2006, 11:38:43 AM
I know, I know...The Phantom Menace was just released yesterday, but hey I'm greedy!  :)

Are we taking a short break from the weekly releases?

Geez guys, the last two entries were barely over two hours.  You should have the entire LOTR trilogy (regular and extended) done by now.

And we should win stuff by watching it.

It's OK if Mike needs to rest. I just wanna know if he IS resting so I don't have to obsess quite so much over the forums waiting for a 20 questions game. :^)

Veteran's Day is next Saturday here in the US, so maybe we will see a war movie Rifftrax?

Any good overblown pretentious war movies out there???

But yeah, Mike should take it easy if that is indeed what he is doing.  I'd rather see 2 Rifftrax as good as Star Wars every month than seeing the quality suffer by trying to crank them out as quickly as possible.

I'm not sure when its going to be, but has anyone watched J-Proofs promo vid for Phantom Menace?

It has 3 or so clips from different movies in it. I wonder if its a hint at what might be coming up??

edit: We also know that Coyote Ugly and Battlefield Earth will be done at some point too...

Coyote Ugly is gonna get ugly if and when they decide to do it.

The original DVD version is out of print and runs 101 minutes.  The new Unrated version is 107 minutes.  Netflix only has the original version for rent.  It could get confusing trying to track down a rental copy of the correct version (which I'm guessing would be the current DVD release).

We were all thinking it, but Mr. Basehart had the courage to say it. Kudos.

After the, shall we say, lukewarm reaction to Crossroads and Cocktail, I think Mike and company might be rethinking doing Coyote Ugly.

Crossroads is a riff classic, we should be so lucky (is Coyote Ugly really THAT bad?)

Im sorry but I can think of better ways of Mike to celebrate Veteran's day than riffing on a War movie......

Seems kind of sadistic if you ask me but every one has an opinion and maybe Mike would agree with you and riff a war movie to...."celebrate" veterans day........jeez talk about a bad idear....lol

I didn't think the reactions were that bad. Cocktail and Crossroads make me laugh more than STV or Halloween.

Were reactions to those films less than great? I've seen Crossroads topping many people's favourite lists around here.

I'd love to see Coyote Ugly Rifftrax'ed. I utterly hated every minute of that film. "Errr...no, we don't have any kind of plot but here are some female stereotypes to jiggle at you. Enjoy!"

I haven't seen Crossroads yet but I thought Cocktail was great!

"Aww they are chasing Katie Holmes schoolbus!"

"By the power invested in my by L. Ron Hubbard, I order you to pull over"

I preferred Crossroads to Cocktail.  I think I may even prefer the Crossroads movie to Cocktail.  Maybe if Tom Cruise had been punched a lot more, I might've warmed to the film...

If we seperate the rifftrax into 'solo effort' and 'with guest', then Crossroads is one of the funniest. In the 'with guest' category I think X-Men or Matrix is one of the better ones (I haven't watched PM yet).

I think it's a bold move for them to choose the Spanish language film "El Resentimiento" as the next Rifftrax.

All I meant about Crossroads and Cocktail, and I'm only guessing at the sales here, is that RiffTrax for big dumb action movies that people are still renting/already own anyway seem to be a much more bankable product to sell than commentaries for movies that people just want to forget ever existed. For example, compare the reaction here to the announcement of the Crossroads RiffTrak to the one for, say, Top Gun. (I won't use Phantom Menace as an example because that one's a gimme.) I recall the general reaction to the Crossroads anouncement being "What?! Why Mike? Why inflict this monstrosity on us? I've done my level best to avoid that movie like my high school math teacher at the grocery store." Whereas the reaction to Top Gun was more like "Awesome! I hate that damn movie, but my college roommate loved it and watched it every week. Rip it a new one, Mike!"

Sure, the final result will surely be enjoyable, but it just seems to me like it's better from a sales point of view to do movies like the Matrix or, say, Armageddon, than Cocktail or Coyote Ugly. New customers (that is, not us addicts) won't be lining up around the virtual block to buy an audio commentary for a movie they have no interest in watching, but do Star Wars and the servers get overloaded.

I think you're makin' a lot of sense there.  At this point I'm sure attracting as big an audience as possible is paramount, since its still a relatively new product.  As long as they keep putting out rifftrax that get people coming back for more, however they choose to do it is all good with me.
