Title: Is it too early to start thinking about Easter movies to riff?
Post by: Wheaty Petestraw on October 30, 2006, 08:39:34 PM
If not, I'd like to recommend The Passion of the Christ.

Il Vangelo Secondo Matteo (The Gospel According to St. Matthew)

The most pissed-off Jesus ever.  Also contains one of the most unintentionally funny baby genocides ever put to film.

Somehow, I don't see Mike Riffing on Jesus being a healthy career choice. I agree, nothing should be held too sacred, but we don't need the overly devout boycotting Rifftrax.

Maybe Ben Hur. MAYBE.. :^)

Mike is also a professing Christian so I highly doubt he's going to start blaspheming Jesus any time soon.

Last Temptation would be interesting.

I do find it odd there's two in five posts saying he probably shouldn't do it and yet everyone was fairly gung ho about making fun of Scientology but I don't think this is the forum.

Heh, yeah, the predictable atheist vs. religious debate can be had any time over on Fark.com  (Also see conservative vs. liberal, american vs. not, and pancakes vs. waffles...)

I'd be really surprised if Easter were commemorated with a Rifftrax.  Halloween and Christmas are the commercial heavy-hitters, but beyond that I guess I didn't expect to see holiday rifftrax specials.

Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan in Rosh Hashana 1 and 2

Yes, it's too early.

They were playing Christmas music at the mall last night. I nearly went Incredible Hulk on the place. GRAAAAAAH! SHARKTOPUS SMASH! NO CAROLS BEFORE HALLOWEEN!

There's a whole bunch of silly biblical movies from the 50's and 60's that would be great.  Ben Hur, The Robe, King of Kings...

I just got back from town now and walked past a shop with xmas trees up, lights and tinsels around the windows and a number of other decorations... so stupid

My wife (used to) work at HomeSense and they start playing Christmas music on Nov 1st. I remember last year she was pretty much insane by the middle of November and has now lost her "Christmas Spirit" permanently.

So sad...

Retail will do that to you...

As for Easter movies, "Ben-Hur" might work, but I think its a real stretch...

The earlier the better for me, I love Christmas.  Hasn't started to get hot yet which is the real downside of Christmas.  Rifftrax so far seems to be based around movies that (at least in Mike's opinion) take themselves too seriously when the premise is silly, religious films would be perfect for that.

I think I suggested 10 commandments in the 'movie suggestion' thread already, there's just so many chances for jokes.

Exactly. I used to love Christmas. BACK WHEN IT WAS IN #@%&ING DECEMBER! IT'S MOTHER#@%&ING HALLOWEEN! HULK SMASH! RAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!

I was looking at Christmas ornaments at the Hallmark store. It made me feel ill.

I understand it geographically, but I just will never be able to wrap my head around Christmas and hot. What does Santa dress like in the southern hemisphere?

You must appreciate that it took me nearly 15 minutes after I found the damn pic just to figure out how to make the link just say "Thank you." As UKRiffer reminds us, I am borderline retarded regarding computers.

What about Jesus Christ Superstar? I have never seen it but a Jesus Musical has to be pretty silly.

Actually, Jesus Christ Superstar would be perfect riffing. It should rank very high on any "goofiest movies ever" list.

My roomate showed me that exact clip a few days ago! I said, "That is exactly what the real movie is like." "No way." "Yup. It's that goofy." Any movie were Jesus and his disciples arrive in a bus is perfect for riffing, says I.

My thoughts exactly.   The Screaming Jesus movie...... with a disco beat.   Perfect!
