Title: RAM Chips!
Post by: Junkyard on October 22, 2007, 06:54:35 PM
Okay, time for RAM chips!

One person names a film, the next gives a good thing about it, and a bad thing. Then that person names another episode.

I'll start us off:

Snakes on a Plane

Good thing: We are now left with the immortal line, "I have had it with these muthafuckin' snakes on my muthafuckin' plane!"
Bad thing: Now you can't mention Samuel L. Jackson without somebody making the obligatory reference to said immortal line.  Muthafucka.

The Departed

Title: Re: RAM Chips!
Post by: Dim of the Yard on October 22, 2007, 09:52:16 PM
Good Thing: Behind its charming fairy tale stylings is a heart-warming moral that you don't need to look like a movie star or have insane amounts of money in order to have a happily ever after.
Bad Thing: Apparently, "happily ever after" is incredibly franchise-able and prone to unnecessary sequels featuring A-list stars and a quick rehash of old jokes.

Carrie

Title: Re: RAM Chips!
Post by: Dim of the Yard on October 22, 2007, 10:52:56 PM
I'm going to switch it up just a little bit.

Bad Thing: Joel Schumacher showed just how inept he is behind the camera, George Clooney was wasted on a role where the chin is mostly what matters, Uma Thurman was unsexy, unwitty, and just plain creepy looking, the puns were about as bad as they came, the sets were ridiculous, OXBRIDGE?!!, Mr. Freeze was a pansy, there was a freaking BAT CREDIT CARD, the thing was more campy than Adam West's Batman era, this movie destroyed the Batman franchise to the point at which in order to be able to make any money off of it, the movie producers had to start from scratch, and the suits had freaking nipples.  BAT.  NIPPLES.

Good Thing: ... Uhh... Duh-huh... Duh-hee... (head explodes in a flash of pyrotechnics)  (Well, Alfred the butler. the one thing that remained from the Tim Burton movies, because Lord knows that the dignity of the cast didn't, delivered a performance that wasn't ENTIRELY cringeworthy.  I guess that counts for something.)

The Weather Man

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

OK Bad thing: I've not seen it so I can't conclusively say if your rant is justified or not (see good thing). ;)

Good thing; Depending on context
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
is perfectly correct. which would be rare in a Cage movie.

Bad: WAY over-hyped. Get over it!

War of the Roses
Title: Re: RAM Chips!
Post by: Dim of the Yard on October 23, 2007, 01:52:45 PM
Good: The title could potentially lead to a Producers reference: "If everybody in the world today had a flower instead of a gun, there would be no wars.  It would be one big smell-in."
Bad: Dropping this title held up the game, since it looks like not too many people have seen this one.

Ben-Hur
Title: Re: RAM Chips!

A-hem

Judgment at Nuremberg

Title: Re: RAM Chips!
Post by: Dim of the Yard on October 24, 2007, 09:05:45 AM
Good: Nuremberg sounds like a rather silly name.
Bad: I haven't seen this movie, nor have I seen a lot of other movies in this game, so now I feel uneducated and silly.

Brazil
Title: Re: RAM Chips!
Post by: Tripe on October 24, 2007, 09:14:04 AM
Good: a nice bit of dystopian fiction with for the time quite good effects.
Bad: it gave a lot of uncreative ad execs lots of material to crib for derivative office equipment commercials in the mid to late '80s.

Dawn of the Dead
Title: Re: RAM Chips!
Post by: RoninFox on October 24, 2007, 02:32:26 PM
Good:  Seemingly, zombies are always cool.

Bad:  Eventually sequels and ripoffs and video game crossovers would prove that wrong.

Sin City
Title: Re: RAM Chips!
Post by: ig400 on October 24, 2007, 02:46:24 PM
Good: artsy and deep in a violent kinda way

Bad: I had to see Frodo with his arms and legs cut off... and not in a good way

Dogma
Title: Re: RAM Chips!
Post by: RoninFox on October 24, 2007, 02:50:36 PM

Good:  Bad ass looking bull alien

Bad:  Bald chick, brought back too many Star Trek I memories.

V for Vendetta
Title: Re: RAM Chips!
Post by: Tripe on October 24, 2007, 03:33:00 PM
Good: It did the heart of this great grandson of an IRA man proud to see the palace of Westminster go kabloooie

Bad: Pussying out on depicting just how viciously racist Norsefire is (no Storm Saxon).

Vixen
Title: Re: RAM Chips!
Post by: Dim of the Yard on October 24, 2007, 08:33:43 PM
Good: The title of this movie helped me to remember the name of that one reindeer that I could never remember.
Bad: I haven't seen the movie, so that's my only thought about it.

A Hard Day's Night
Title: Re: RAM Chips!
Post by: Tripe on October 25, 2007, 05:08:49 AM
Good : It's nice to see Wilfred Brambell in a role other than Albert Steptoe
Bad: It's a movie featuring the most overrated band in history. Have I mentioned how much I find the Beetles tedious (I know that's not thespelling the prefer).

Bedazzled (I mean the original but I'll accept the remake)
Title: Re: RAM Chips!
Post by: Junkyard on October 25, 2007, 06:06:18 AM

Bad: Where are the zombies?

School of Rock
Title: Re: RAM Chips!
Post by: Dim of the Yard on October 25, 2007, 02:14:30 PM
Good: It's a hell of an interesting take on "The Music Man."  And they managed to get Led Zeppelin to agree to let the director use one of their songs, "Immigrant Song," in one of the scenes, which is pretty cool.
Bad: How can you have a movie about rock and roll without the Rolling Stones?  Come on!

Back To The Future II
Title: Re: RAM Chips!
Post by: GregMcduck on October 25, 2007, 02:30:21 PM
Good: Special effects still look great, plus watching it over and over again gives you a good grasp on time travel logic.
Bad: Watching it only once leaves you painfully confused and dizzy.

The Muppet Movie
Title: Re: RAM Chips!
Post by: RoninFox on October 25, 2007, 02:34:10 PM
Good:  Underneath the surface it's a brilliantly written parody of corporate America and the danger of selling out.

Bad:  The muppets were eventually bought by Disney, thus negating the message.

Princess Mononoke
Title: Re: RAM Chips!
Post by: kodiakthejuggler on October 25, 2007, 02:37:58 PM
Good: The animation and production value was great!
Bad: BORING! Plus, the English Dub was CRAP!! Ugh.

Bad: Matt Damon said that he isnt going to be making anymore

Bean (first Mr. Bean film)
Title: Re: RAM Chips!
Post by: Tripe on October 25, 2007, 03:28:05 PM

Bad: I'd have preferred a Blackadder movie

Jesus of Nazareth
Title: Re: RAM Chips!
Post by: Dim of the Yard on October 28, 2007, 03:59:54 PM
Good: The initials are "Jon," which makes me think of Jon Arbuckle from Garfield, and makes me want to play with the Garfield Randomizer Generator, which is always fun.
Bad: I just compared Jesus to a lazy cat.

Evil Dead
Title: Re: RAM Chips!
Post by: RoninFox on October 28, 2007, 04:03:14 PM
Good:  Classic gory horror film that launched the career of one of my favorite B movie actors.
Bad:  With the exception of the tree-rape scene pretty much this entire movie is overshadowed by half/remake half/sequel Evil Dead 2

Man on the Moon
Title: Re: RAM Chips!
Post by: Chaos on October 28, 2007, 06:56:52 PM
Good: nice to see some of the behind the scenes stories of Andy's life from his friends' point of view.
Bad: unfortunately, they cast Jim to be Andy... which is kind of insulting to how good Kaufman really was. :P

Titanic
Title: Re: RAM Chips!
Post by: RoninFox on October 28, 2007, 07:00:26 PM
Good: nice to see some of the behind the scenes stories of Andy's life from his friends' point of view.
Bad: unfortunately, they cast Jim to be Andy... which is kind of insulting to how good Kaufman really was. :P

Titanic

Gotta agree on both counts.  It was much better reading Bob Zmuda's book, but the movie had it's moments.

As for Titanic
Good:  Impressive effects for it's time.
Bad:  Femmy leading man that paved the way for a truckload of femboys to follow.

Equilibrium
Title: Re: RAM Chips!
Post by: Dim of the Yard on October 28, 2007, 08:20:10 PM
Good: I always get these promises from my friends that the next time we hang out, they're going to show me Equilibrium, so it serves as a good excuse to see them.
Bad: Somehow, they always forget to show Equilibrium, so I haven't seen it yet.

Mean Girls
Title: Re: RAM Chips!
Post by: Junkyard on October 28, 2007, 08:33:26 PM
Bad thing: Mean Girls
Good Thing: The parts of the Universe not occupied by Mean Girls.

Transformers (Again, and this time maybe someone who saw it can answer this time.)
Title: Re: RAM Chips!
Post by: Reductio_ad_absurdum on October 28, 2007, 10:05:07 PM
Good: The robots actually looking and behaving like alien giant robots and not blocky bots with "Made in Japan" stamped on their titanium tushies.  Megatron isn't a freakin' transforming pistol.  Camaro beats VW Bug hands down.  The military extras WERE military personnel.  So on and so on...

Bad: The McGuffin plot and the "What would Jesus do?" line.  The book had a better one where Sam gets the teacher to think about his first car, and plus the line was cringe-worthy in the context of the movie.  There will always be too little scenes with the robots.

Winnie the Pooh

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Title: Re: RAM Chips!
Post by: Stacey on October 28, 2007, 11:27:31 PM
Good: Dim-witted yet well-meaning Winnie inspires children all over the world to slow down and enjoy the good things in life.

Bad: His new psychotropic ride at Disneyland offers flashbacks to those who've never even tripped on acid.

XANADU
Title: Re: RAM Chips!
Post by: Junkyard on October 29, 2007, 10:19:43 AM
Good Thing: The film when high.
Bad Thing: The film when sober.

Jason X
Title: Re: RAM Chips!
Post by: RoninFox on October 29, 2007, 02:19:34 PM
Good:  Funny as all hell

Bad:  While he was in space, he didn't meet the Leprechaun.

Batman Begins
Title: Re: RAM Chips!
Post by: Dim of the Yard on October 29, 2007, 03:00:52 PM
Good: It restarted the Batman franchise, a much-needed choice that made us able to look upon newer Batman movies with a faint glimmer of hope that maybe the future will be bright, after all.
Bad: Even the combined efforts of Christian Bale, Michael Caine, and Liam Neeson are unable to wash the stain of Batman and Robin from the franchise's hands.

Sleepy Hollow
Title: Re: RAM Chips!
Post by: Brak on October 29, 2007, 07:28:02 PM
Good:  Tim Buron directed and i have heard its a great film
Bad: Never had a chance to see it

Bad Thing: There probably aren't.

Underworld Evolution
Title: Re: RAM Chips!
Post by: Chaos on October 30, 2007, 07:43:40 AM
Good: special effects are nice.
Bad: pretty much everything else.

(also, re: Splash, I would put "bad" as blaming it for the existence of "Madison" as a name. :P)

I, Robot
Title: Re: RAM Chips!
Post by: ig400 on October 30, 2007, 08:34:02 AM
Good Thing: cars will be able to drive themselves sideways in the future

Bad thing: It's basically an action version Bicentennial man only with Will Smith

Groundhog Day
Title: Re: RAM Chips!
Post by: Tripe on October 30, 2007, 08:43:56 AM
Good: It's a fun Bill Murray film with a soupcon of philosophical musings
Bad: That inexplicably asks us to believe anyone could be bothered to win the affections of Andie McDowell

Lost in Translation
Title: Re: RAM Chips!
Post by: bettertomorrowamy on October 30, 2007, 10:59:24 AM
Good:  Stars Bill Murray, a very funny man, and shows great scenes of Tokyo.

The man from Snowy River
Title: Re: RAM Chips!
Post by: Dim of the Yard on November 01, 2007, 07:42:33 PM
Good: Snow kicks ass.  Rivers kick ass.  Ergo, Snowy River kicks double the amount of ass required to kick to make it awesome.
Bad: The man from Snowy River must have been really, really cold, if he hadn't caught pneumonia or hypothermia, and being cold kind of sucks.

Horse Feathers

The great escape
Title: Re: RAM Chips!
Post by: Dim of the Yard on November 01, 2007, 09:40:36 PM
Good: In the very least, it's a hell of an escape.
Bad: It's also the name of an overrated theme park in New York State which is slowly morphing into another Six Flags theme park.

Troll
