Title: Mafia --Game Three (Finished!)
Post by: ChrisHanel on October 01, 2007, 11:28:19 AM
House Rules: 40 Players, 3 Mafias, 3 players each. 3 Informants, 3 Vigilantes, 1 Doctor, 1 Cleaner.

Due to the larger size of this game and the need for many people to visit consistently, here's the rule I'm setting for signups: We must have 40 people signed up by Wednesday night at 11:00 Forum time for the game to go off. If we don't have enough by then, there's a good chance we never will (or at least have a large number of people who don't visit the board enough to play). If we don't reach 40, I'll arrange a different arrangement of roles to fit the number of signups we have, though we'll see what we have at the time.

Let's play Mafia!

Rules Announcement!

This game will *not* qualify as a Championship game. Rules will match Championship rules except for the following addendums:

1. The Doctor - One player will be a Doctor in this game. The Doctors, starting in Round Two, PM the Game Master with the name of a player that they choose to save for the Round. The only time that the Doctor’s save will not work, is if the player that they chose is killed by the Citizens. The Doctors will not know the player’s position that they are saving, so it is conceivable that they could save a Mafia member. Doctors are not allowed to save themselves.

2. The Bomb - Both mafias have a pyrotechnics expert available for this game. Once (and only once) during the game, the mafias may kill *two* players instead of one by using a Bomb. The mafias may elect to use a bomb during their normal mafia hit round.

3. He Who Hesitates is Lost -- Players are only allowed to change their votes *twice* during the entire duration of the game. We will be counting!

That's all for now... PMs and game commencement to happen later tonight. See you then!

-Chris

Nice! that will really make the game more interesting than the last two rounds :)  Although they were a lot of fun, this will be my first time playing with a doctor and a bomb.

Good evening.

I've gathered you all here because my son is missing, and I believe that some of you know where he can be found. It is imperative that whoever should be sympathetic to my plight to help smoke out some of the many enemies that he's collected throughout the years.

Identify these enemies, and my son may be saved. This is not a game. it's a race against evil. If my son is killed or captured by the Nazis or the Kali, the armies of darkness will march all over the face of the earth. Do you understand me?

You have 24 hours... Find my son's abductors.

-Dr. Henry Jones

(GM: Game starts now. If you haven't received a PM, you are a citizen for this game. Go!)

Well I didn't mean to command people when i did it.  I was just trying to think of a way to start it off and I was feeling cocky because i was a vigilante.  Nevertheless we all realize now that it was a dumb way to start.  So either Minnesota is trying to tell us that he's a vigilante or a clever mafia member.  Sorry Minnesota, I vote for you.  I expected you to learn from my mistake.

Anyone else notice how Compound used a crossed out names list from last page rather than the newer ones on this page? Seems fishy to me. I'll leave my vote with Minnesota but this little incident will be noted.

lol, I sign-on to find myself all but lynched.

Honestly the game had been going for 2 and a half hours so I did it out of boredom. Hmm, maybe the doctor can find sympathy for me ... this is the 2nd time in a row that I got killed first... last time I got killed so fast I didn't even get to vote  :speechless:

Anyway for those that haven't voted yet, I'm not in the mafia. I was just trying to get the game rolling

I'm not going to vote for Minnesota, even though he's as good as dead. I think his little roll call thing is pointless, but it's nothing weird, it's just an ice breaker. Plus, so many people have voted for him, the chances of some mafia votes mixed in there are pretty high.

Now, we've played this game two times before. Most of us know the ins and outs of it. As stated, if you keep your head down, you have a better chance of survival. So, I am going to vote for Pyro, who as far as I can tell hasn't made much of a peep.

Could just be me, but faulty logic like that usually seems to indicate mafia or vigilante/informant from what I remember.... Sorry, but I can't be online more than 10 minutes before heading to school for 4 hours where I don't usually go online, and now I just got home.... Guess I should point out ahead of time for you too that I'll be at work from 4 (20 minutes from now) till midnight and i'm leaving in 5 so I won't be around, feel free to accuse me of being in the mafia for more weak reasonings while I'm gone, but it'll be a wasted vote

There will be, but anything right now would be half-assed due to time availability. I would rather get hits and whatnot done quickly than have things drag because i'm trying to write stuff.

When I have some time here i'm going to try and stockpile a few ideas and use those to seed future deaths.

For now, I've got a riff to edit. :D

While we all pretty much joined in the first round mob mentality to kill him, it was Pak who led the charge.

Pak-Man is definitely a shifty character.  He probably deserves to die.  However, I'm voting YoohooRiffer for failing to grasp the irony in leading the mob to kill off the last guy who led the mob.  Seems like an underhanded mafia tactic to me.

Well since the "limited vote changing" thing makes it harder for someone to live once people have decided to vote for them, I would like to ask those of you who have not voted yet to please refrain from voting for me. I'm a citizen.

We all had a part in killing Minnesota, including me, but I think there is quite a difference in leading the charge and being a mindless mob follower.

I'm really not Mafia, but we all know how little that matters in this game.  :P

Well since it looks like I'm biting the bullet this round I'd like to share with you my Mafia guesses.  I think tank2134, Pak-man and Steve-O are Mafia.  I'm pretty certain with tank and I'd think the rest of you should be too:

I vote for Yoohoo for outing himself.  Takes away from the fun of the game.

He's new to the game and doesn't know how it works and so thought I was cheating by saying I wasn't Mafia.  But then he goes on to say he's voting for me anyways.  So he believes I'm a citizen and is voting against me anyways.  Well if this doesn't make it obvious to anyone else that he's Mafia I don't know what will.  It will be the clincher for you all when my body is indentified as a citizen.  So please take him out in a future round.

I didn't think you were cheating.  I just don't think the game has a point if everyone outs themselves.  We coulda saved a lot of time by saying who everyone was in the beginning if that's what people are going to do.  It's my first time playing and I want it to be fun.

Part of the fun is trying to figure out who's lying and who isn't. . . I don't think you get the strategy.   Everyone is claiming they are a citizen, more or less, you just have to figure out who's not being honest.

On the other hand, if I just got outed as being a mafia member, I'd probably pretend I didn't get the strategy either.  Hmm.

Of course, in a way, Minnesota led this charge against Pak-Man.  I've seen enough horror movies to know that taking commands from people who lie just beyond the mortal veil doesn't end well.  (Even if Minnesota only had one foot in the grave when he gave the request....)

Well I guess I don't have to put my case out there for why Sideswipe was in the Kali.  Thought he was suspicious mentioning the Kali in one of his posts before the first round was done.  Then there is no reason for him to switch his vote unless he was trying to protect someone.   I think we got lucky and our 2 top vote getters last round were both mafia from seperate families.  Just remember, because Pakky turned out to be a nazi doesn't mean that YoohooRiffer isn't Kali.

I think Sideswipe voted for Yoohoo as a diversionary tactic when he thought Pak-was a shoe in to be voted off and changed his mind to try to save YooHoo.  If this isn't the case I still think yoohoo is screwed by Sideswipes actions.   I'm unsure about Steve-o... I don't know if he was trying to save pak or just trying to create a second option so we don't all vote the same way every round.  I tend to agree with the stuff about Tank unless he just goofed and is a Doctor or something.  It's safe to say he's probably not a straight up citizen without any title attached.

PS  If I wind up dead I think I'm on to something.

Argh.  I'm under suspicion for no good reason again.  Just goes to show you, it doesn't pay to stick your neck out in this game.

Yoohoo, my delicious, chocolatey friend, you got my vote for two reasons.  First, during the last game, over and over again we all just piled on one guy like an angry mob.  And over and over again, we kept picking off citizens.  There was no rhyme or reason to it, it made the game frustrating, and I was hoping we could avoid going down that path again this time.  As it happens, Pak-man did turn out to be one of those mafia scumbags this time, but that was more luck than anything else.

Second, if everybody votes to kill the same person every round, that doesn't provide us with any useful information for the next round.  If everybody had voted for Pak-man, his fellow Nazis probably would have voted for him too, and we would have learned nothing.  But since that didn't happen, we now have a pool of likely suspects.  You're welcome.

Oh please.  We all know raven sealed his own death by accusing me.  Half of the game voted for me last round so what easier target is there then the person who accused me.  Killing raven would make people believe exactly what you are saying.

Seriously, I led the charge to kill a Mafia member.  Give me some credit.  Be suspcious of me if you want but i've practically proved tank is mafia.  If I'm wrong about tank then fine kill me next round, ok?  Just trust me for this round so I can prove myself...again.

I gave my reasoning after YooHoo's post implicating me.  I think Sideswipe voted for YooHoo at first to make it look like there was no connection between them.  At that point it looked like Pak was dead to rights.  More people vote and all the sudden YooHoo is going to get killed.  Sideswipe (Kali) changes his vote to Pak in essense saving YooHoo.  Pak just happened to be Mafia (Nazi).  Raven implicates YooHoo and mysteriously gets offed.  Don't you see something wrong here?

I somehow doubt that an experienced Mafia player would decide to whack somebody who implicated him in the same turn of the implication, especially when it's so early in the game.  That'd be the one surefire way to put yourself up on the chopping block.  (Besides, Yoohoo already made his big Mafia blunder.)

I'm voting for tank2134.  There's some decent evidence against him, and raven166 suspected him before he died.  And I did say I was going to listen to dead people more often.

Edit: My reasoning is valid unless things don't go as planned in my head.  So it's only partially valid.  That's my plan, I'm sticking to it.

That works the same when going to a flea market.  One time, I went to one with no expectations, and happened to find a fat guy in a beard sitting in a wicker chair fanning himself with a palm frond while a toy helicopter on a rail circled about over his head.  What's not to love about that?  Totally made my day.  The rest of the stuff there was crap, but the memory of that guy will last a lifetime.

Yeah, but then there's sometimes when you're shitty little town or neighborhood will throw a huge garage sale thing and you think "One of these people MUST have at least one Tom Waits or Frank Zappa CD" and then it's nothing but obsolete computers, kitchen china, and horse saddles

Say, Dr. Jones, could you possibly include who was killed by who in the progress report?  I find it to be handy, and I'm kind of bumming that this little detail was left out of the report.  No big deal, of course, but it's still handy, ya?

pyro, your vote for tank2134 is now recorded. Remember, you are allowed to change your vote up to twice during the game. You have until 9:36AM tomorrow morning (pacific time) to post a vote change in the thread.

Dim of the Yard, like pyro said, the start of round post includes who killed who, and the mid-round post just focuses on the votes. I'm trying out a new script. I tried putting both together, but it looked too cluttered.

That sounds very fair.  Thanks for addressing this, Dr. Jones, and I'm sorry everybody had to put up with my anal retentiveness this round.

Edit: Also, garage sales.  I don't trust them enough to hunt for music in them.  I don't know the conditions that the CD's are in, and I don't want to take my chances, even if the CD's are selling for a kickass price.

Thirdly, heheh, I said "anal" again.

We could end it now if everyone were to post indicating they do not wish to change their vote - or enough people to make it impossible to change which player has the most votes. But otherwise it would not be fair to end a round before the 24 hours (lighting rounds excluded), since it denies the victim accused the chance of saving themselves by a last hour plea for sanity / mercy / counter-lynching.

I'm going to start by examining a few things.  *gets out trusty whiteboard*

ALMOST everyone voted for tank last round.  Those that didn't were tank, Bairman, jasimon, bryak, and Stacey.

-tank, of course, turned out to be the second of 3 Nazis.  He voted for YoohooRiffer.

-bryak voted for YoohooRiffer as well.

-Stacey voted for myself.  What can I say?  It's a pleasure to be noticed.

-Bairman voted for bryak after his comment about a "dog pile for a Nazi to hide in."

-jasimon voted for bryak as well.

While it's probably not all that likely that the three remaining Mafia members would all be found in this group, I think at least one is.  So, let's further look at what transpired next, shall we?

tank was bumped off by the citizen vote.  Leaving but one Nazi left.  At first blush, signs would seem to point towards bryak as being that Nazi.  After all, bryak voted for Yoohoo instead of tank, which would be the move of a fellow Nazi, and his poorly-chosen comment did seem to generate a bit of backlash.  Furthermore, when the Nazi hits came down, poor innocent Bairman, he who first fingered bryak, was on the receiving end of a bomb blast.  HOWEVER...

Before jasimon voted for bryak, she voted for Yoohoo.  In fact, she was the very first person to vote for Yoohoo in the round, back on page 12.  She actually changed her vote after Bairman voted for bryak.

Here's what I think happened:  jasimon and tank figured that people would probably suspect Yoohoo and he'd be an easy target, so they both voted for him early, figuring they'd get a good groundswell of support.  Unfortunately for the goose-stepping duo, they didn't count on Yoohoo's persuasiveness in getting just about the entire group of players to vote for tank.  Knowing they were far outnumbered, and that tank was a goner, jasimon was desperate for a way to save her own skin and distance herself from her friend in the Luftwaffe.  And then, a shining beacon of salvation appeared, a gift in the form of a vote from Bairman towards bryak.  She gets her out by switching her vote to bryak, and then, in an incredibly brilliant stroke, executes Bairman in the next round, framing bryak.  Then, she lies in wait a full two hours, until after a couple other people get their votes in.  This time, the "vote for bryak" campaign hits the ground running, and jasimon doesn't even need to provide a reason why they should vote for him.  Well played, jasimon.  Well played.

So then, to wrap things up with a Differential Diagnosis:  jasimon is a Nazi.

And, I vote for jasimon.

I'm going to start by examining a few things.  *gets out trusty whiteboard*

Holy crap.  That must be a huge whiteboard.

I'm glad you did all that analysis, because I had my reservations about voting for bryak.  His Nazi comment might have been a slip-up, but it could also very easily have meant nothing.  It was pretty vague.  And if suspecting YoohooRiffer to be mafia is a crime, you'd have to arrest more than one player in this game -- including our hapless Vigilante, sadly enough.  (Also, well... myself.  I'm sorry I suspected you, bullet-riddled corpse of YoohooRiffer!*)

But I find your reasoning on jasimon very interesting, especially after I looked back through the thread and noticed that she voted for Compound in a round where virtually everybody else suspected either Pak or Yoohoo.  I know from the first game she's clever enough to pull it off.  I think you're on to something.

One more vote for jasimon1.

* Attention Mafia: I would like to point out that the fact that both the Vigilante and I suspected YoohooRiffer does not necessarily mean that I am that selfsame Vigilante.  I would further like to point out that, even if I were the Vigilante, I would have already used up both of my hits at this point, thus rendering me harmless as a kitten.

Ack!  Is there a doctor in the house?
Title: Re: Mafia --Game Three (Started!)
Post by: bryak on October 10, 2007, 01:22:36 AM
Well, as for the Nazi comment, I'd just forgotten that there were two mafia families.  I said it because everyone was diving on Tank the way everyone was diving on Minnesota in round 1.

This game doesn't give you a whole lot to go on, so I understood Bairman's notice; you have to take what you can get.  There's no point in defense, because it will devolve into, "well maybe that's what he thought you'd think." crap.

jasimon1 and I both voted for Yoohoo twice (until 1 changed to me), but she led the charge making many arguments (with Yoohoo) about why it was him.  It seems odd to argue that adamently, then switch to someone else based on a decent, but distant comment, then simply utter a quiet "Bryak gets my vote too." in the fray of the next round.  But, then again, maybe that's what I want you to think.

I'm voting for jasimon1 in hopes that I finally voted right.  I think jasimon1 was desperately looking for a new red herring to latch on to last round.
Title: Re: Mafia --Game Three (Started!)
Post by: jasimon1 on October 10, 2007, 03:33:09 AM
Actually, the only reason I changed my vote to bryak last round because the trend seemed to be that the person who voted for Yoohoo would get killed by the mafia in an effort to frame Yoohoo. I honestly thought the mafia would still pick me off last round to point more blame on Yoohoo.

I however was positive Yoohoo was mafia after a conversation I walked in on in the chat room. That's why, when I was positive the mafia was going to pick me off last round, I used my vigilante hit on Yoohoo. I just didn't want it to go to waste and really, I was sure he was mafia. My bad. Guess the mafia isn't as smart as I thought.

All players have voted. The round is still open until 2:30 PM forum time (5:30 PM eastern). You have until then to change your votes if you so desire.

If enough people post saying they do not intend to change their votes, we can end the round early.

Reminder: As long as at least 2 people die this round, Round 5 will be the first lightning round. Under lightning round rules, the citizen vote round ends immediately when all votes are received, so your opportunities to change votes are reduced - you need to make your case for a vote change, and your decision to change your vote, before the last vote is received. So you should be careful about where you place  your votes, and you might also want to be sure of your vote for this round, since it might be your last real chance to swap around votes.

Here is where the votes stand as of right now:

Round 4 in Progress
01. Sideswipe (Kali)
02. dignan - voted for: jasimon1, votes received: 1
03. Pak-Man (Nazi)

Well now, much like House, I too can be completely off in my initial diagnosis.  I'll tell you what, jasimon, either you're the most devious player we've yet encountered, or I'm a complete idiot.  And since I've proven myself time and again to be a complete idiot, I think it's safe to say that I am in this case as well.

I'm changing my vote to Compound.

I'm not a complete idiot. I just know that either the citizens are going to kill me or the mafia will this round so why not give you the info to pick off a mafia member.

I'm the vilgilante, not the informant. I couldn't ask about a mafia member.

Just so everyone is clear, I have no clue if Bryak is mafia. I just know Compound is.

Try as I might, I can't think of a reason why a mafia member would pretend to be a Vigilante, unless it was a very late round.  If Compound isn't mafia, it's suicide.  If he is mafia, it's still suicide (unless the Doctors step in), or she's ratting out her fellow mafia member to save herself, which seems unlikely.

Okay.  I change my vote to Compound.

I was viewing it as it could have been ratting him out to save herself or taking a quasi shot in the dark to save herself because all of a sudden she claims that after everyone starts voting for her....  I wasn't around when it all unfolded so I was just mostly curious based on my initial point of the pm vs the vote

Either way, if she's right more power to her since she's right that she's probably not going to be around much longer either way because of it....

Nope, there hasn't been anything to clear me yet.

We know that there is still one vigilante out there, right?  And two vigilante hits have been used, so there is no point in the vigilante hiding anymore since they have no more power.  If jasimon isn't the vigilante, wouldn't someone else have chimed in saying they are?  Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm seriously asking.

Because, if jasimon is mafia, there would still be a vigilante out there to pipe up saying that they are the vigilante, and that hasn't happened.  If there is a possibility that someone else is the vigilante, then this could be a ruse to take the heat off of jasimon, if there isn't, it's not.  whether or not compound is in fact mafia is less to the point.  Even if compound is Kali, this is a case of life or death for the Nazis and would eliminate one hit from the game.

Either way, well played; making for an interesting game.

Well now. This is an interesting development.

Compound (Kali) has been killed by the Citizens.

Mafia round begins now. You have 24 hours to send in your hits.

Note: the following vote changes have been recorded so far this game: Sideswipe, jasimon1 (2), Stacey, Brak, dignan, Dim of the Yard, James of Linhood, Steve-O. Remember, each player can change their vote up to twice during the course of the game.

There.  Quoting fun!

I am voting for Bryak again
Title: Re: Mafia --Game Three (Started!)

Time to think things through here.

From my understanding, in the previous round, there were five people that did not vote for Compound and survived the round.  These people are Brak, pyro, bettertomorrowamy, Stacey, and bryak.  Of these five people, two people voted for jasimon1: Stacey and bryak.  This isn't necessarily a lot to go on, I'll admit.  However, there are a few things that might be important to note here:

- Stacey started out the round by voting for dignan.  This was before dignan made his post, suspecting jasimon1.  After his song and dance, Stacey replied by saying she was going to keep her vote.  After jasimon1 outed herself as the Vigilante, suddenly Stacey decided that she liked dignan's reasoning and cast a vote for jasimon1, even though dignan was the one that originally held her vote.

- bryak slipped up earlier in the game by saying that voting for tank2134 was a good hiding place for a Nazi.  This could have been taken as a mistake either on the scale of, "Whoops, I just outed tank2134," or, "Whoops, I stumbled over my wording."  The former looks slightly more likely, as it was revealed that tank2134 was a Nazi.  bryak made himself a case as to why he was voting for jasimon1 in the previous round, before jasimon1 outed herself, and didn't change his vote after the outing.  It's not even a case of not visiting the topic since after he voted, as he made another post questioning the veracity of jasimon1's claim.  His voting history also shows that he has not killed a member of the Mafia.

- bettertomorrowamy voted for Stacey, but for some reason did not receive a retaliatory vote from her.  She instead jumped on dignan, who is quite adept with his words and made a strong case for as to why jasimon1 was a member of the Mafia.  He did not post in the topic after jasimon1 outed herself, and his vote stood, making him the only person who voted for Stacey.

- Brak voted for byrak, claiming that he didn't like how close their names were.  And he has cast another vote for bryak.  He's a consistent fellow.

- pyro voted for bryak.  He also dislikes yard sales, but that's hardly relevant to this topic, now, is it?

So, bryak and Stacey voted for jasimon1, an outed Vigilante.  I think it's pretty clear to see where my suspicions lie in this game.  Some of this stuff isn't really a lot to go on, like pyro's contempt for yard sales or the fact that Brak is a consistent sort of fellow, but I think I've made it clear where my suspicions lie in this game.

Based on voting history, I suspect that Stacey is a Kali and bryak is a Nazi.  Why?  Well, Stacey was the first person to jump on the "Let's Vote For Pak!" bandwagon (this was before Minnesota died, mind you).  At the end of the second round, the Citizens killed Pak-Man, who was a Nazi.  During the "Let's Vote For Pak!" round, bryak cast a vote for Yoohoo, who was under suspicion at the time (and who we all know was actually a Citizen) (again, Yoohoo, I apologize).  In Round Three, when everybody was ganging up on tank2134, bryak once again voted for Yoohoo.  (This is willingly ignoring his Nazi blunder, by the way.)  This makes Stacey a Kali.

As far as this round goes, I extend my vote to bryak.  My logic is a bit more sturdy when it comes to bryak being in the Mafia, so I feel slightly more justified in making this vote.

Edit: God, that was long.  Sorry, folks.  I trimmed it down a bit so it's slightly less tl;dr.  Just wanted to throw my theories out there.  Now let's see who decides to listen to the logic of a girl who willingly calls herself Dim!   ;)

Maybe I missed it somewhere but I can't figure out why I didn't get hit last round. I'm iffy about voting for bryak.  His Nazi comment read like more of an honest mistake to me than a genuine gaffe, and his claims of innocence ring true to me for some reason.

On the other hand, Dim makes some good points in spite of her name -- especially the one about bryak not yet being on the right team for a Mafia kill, though I suppose that could just be bad luck.  More to the point, I don't see any other obvious choices right now.  I'm going to have to go with bryak unless something drastic happens to change my mind before the final vote comes in.

If he does turn out to be a Citizen, though, I think we really need to start looking into some of the people who have been quietly flying under the radar and/or putting in seemingly random votes.

Hmmmm, well, looks like I'm smoked, but allow me to make my case.

I stand by my Nazi comment of two rounds ago, I should have said mafia, but the point stands the same.  When everybody votes for the same person without a single change of vote, we learn nothing about any of the mob attacking the person.  I honestly thought tank was mafia, but I had enough doubt about Yoohoo to make him a close second to be worth voting for, thus making it harder for members of his mafia to just say "i vote tank!" and disappear into the fray.

The Bairman argument:  I wouldn't have bombed bairman.  If I'd had a bomb, I would have bombed pyro because he said he was itching to vote for me and was going to vote for me next round, but never had, which would have given me plausible deniability down the line.  But maybe that's what I want you to think.

Some of the suspicion from last round is based on my timezone.  I put my last post up at 0030.  I was honestly asking the question.  Put yourself in my position for a minute.

For the sake of argument, we'll say I'm a hapless citizen.  That means that the last round of voting was me, a hapless citizen, against jasimon who could be anything and had done a couple suspicious .  Naturally, I go for jasimon.  THEN jasimon comes out and says that she's the vigilante. crap.  that means that this vote has turned into being a guaranteed citizen (again, from my perspective) against a likely vigilante(which explains the suspicious activity). crap crap.  Unlike jasimon (remember, i'm a citizen in this argument) i don't have any inside information to drop.  Not in that round, not in this round.  Then jasimon said her informant said, "compund is a kali".  Lots of people changed their vote.  I posted the question to confirm what I suspected, that since no one else had stood up to say 'no you're not the vigilante' doesn't that mean that jasimon really is the vigilante?  no one answered, it was getting late, i counted the votes and saw that compound was toast, so there was no point in switching my vote, and went to bed; the war don't wait for internet forums (or is it fora?).

Also, switching in that close race is no armor against being mafia, just against being kali.  It would have behooved the Nazi to switch quickly because it would have looked to give false credibility down the line without costing anything (again, in this beautiful world where i'm a citizen).

Then there was the lucky break of both mafia whacking the same person.  I stand by what I said before, eliminating families is more important than eliminating members.  You can't count on them hitting the same person every time.

I doubt this will change anything, but I really would like to see the citizens win.  I'll wait until the west coast wakes up to see if anyone changes their vote, then I'll drop mine.

Also, just to make sure there's no doubt; it's unpatriotic to vote for me.  and not being american isn't an excuse!

bryak:

Point 1: The fact that you slipped up and said "Nazi" instead of "Mafia is one of the least solid arguments in my case, and I'll readily admit it.  I'll be honest, when you first said that, I thought it was just an honest mistake.  What made me suspicious of this was when it was discovered that tank2134 was a Nazi.  However, it could have easily been one hell of a coincidence, so that barely factored into my evidence.

Point 2: The Mafia are both working for a common goal in this game.  The people in one Mafia family would not vote for somebody in the other family if they knew for sure, or in the very least had a very strong suspicion, that the person under scrutiny was actually in the Mafia.  At least, they SHOULDN'T in this round.  The more Mafia members in the game, the greater the chances of the Mafia winning.

Point 3: Bombing Bairman had nothing to do with my argument.  Heck, I didn't even mention Bairman in my post.  Read a bit more carefully next time, my good sir.  Somebody could find the fact that you brought this up suspicious.

Point 4: When jasimon1 outed herself as a Vigilante, she focused her attention mostly on Compound, so I probably wouldn't have worried about too much if I was in your shoes as a hapless citizen.  To answer your initial question (It's a bit late for that!), what jasimon1 did took a lot of guts, and she's getting a lot of flack for it.  She outed not only herself, but also her Informant, who was killed by both parties in the previous round.  Normally, people would tend to reveal themselves in the final round of the competition, when there's only one Mafia member left and there's no chance of being taken out.  There's a lot of risk involved with exposing yourself, so even if jasimon1 was not a Vigilante, I doubt anybody would have stepped in and exposed her.  And taking her word and voting out Compound was a serious gamble.  Fortunately, it paid off for us.  If Compound was a citizen, most of us, if not all of us, would be cracking down on jasimon1 right now.

Point 5: Again, Nazis and Kalis are essentially on the same team.  They're competing for the same common goal.  We're not playing the variation of the rules where the two Mafia families are at war and want each other dead.

You make a strong, compelling argument, bryak, I must admit.  But I'm basing my decision on your voting records.  The Citizens, up until the previous round, have only taken out Nazis, and not Kalis.  You had not cast a vote for a Nazi in a single round, which I find suspicious, especially given that tank2134 was the obvious player to vote for in that round.  That could also be one hell of a coincidence, but given that there's already the "tank2134 = Nazi" coincidence and the fact that you were one of the only people not to vote for Compound or tank2134 when they were under suspicion, I'm wondering if the question of coincidences can even be applied here.  It could be that you just have an incredible amount of bad luck, but that's not enough to convince me to change my vote.

I'm sorry, bryak, but my vote stands.

Anybody, correct me if I've slipped up in any of my reasonings.  I want to be sure I have my facts straight here.

I think, and hope for the citizen's sake, that Stacey is Kali.  As for the Nazi, I think it is a toss up between bettertomorrowamy and Brak.  Both of them have been playing the glib, non-chalant "I'm just going to make silly votes" style, with the exception of the tank vote; but I think the Nazis new tank was a dead man, so they had one vote early for him for false credibility.

Since I think Stacey's toast next round, and don't know who the Nazi is, I vote for Brak, because his name is too close to mine.

Tell my mother I love her.

You have chosen... poorly.

bryak (Citizen) has been killed by the Citizens.

Mafia round begins now. You have 24 hours to send in your hits (please try not to take this long - it's the lightning round, after all). If I have not received the mafia hits by 11:45 AM tomorrow morning forum time (2:45 PM eastern), your hit will be forfeited for the round.

That's right.  Excellent.  Anybody have any clue as to who to vote for next?

I'm nervous about making any guesses, because I don't have any certainty.  The only thing I have to go on is the same suspicion I had earlier -- and which poor bryak supported in his final moments.  There are a few people who have been really quiet, or have been casting weird votes that neither help nor hinder the citizens, which seems like a good way to avoid attracting attention.

Running with that thought: Brak and you (James) have both been quiet, but that's also how both of you have played the previous games when you were citizens, so that doesn't mean much.  And I don't see anything in either of your voting records that's terribly suspicious.

bettertomorrowamy and Stacey have both been pretty quiet, and some of their votes seem to be coming completely out of left field.  With bettertomorrow, I know from previous games that's just sort of his schtick.  In Stacey's case, this is her first game, so I have no history to go on.

So I'm leaning toward either bettertomorrowamy or Stacey, but I'm hoping to see what others think before I put in my vote.  I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm usually dead well before this round, so I'm kind of crapping my pants here.  I can't help but feel if we don't get this right, my neck's probably on the chopping block.

So... any thoughts?

Fair enough.  My theories, such as they are, I've listed above.

As for my defense:

1. Yoohoo decided he was no longer suspicious of me after I explained my reasons for voting for him.

2. I've been part of voting blocs that have killed off both a Nazi and a Kali.  I realize that's a pretty weak defense given how many people voted for both of those guys, but it's the best I've got.

3. Please don't take offense at this, but your reasoning didn't exactly do us any favors in the jasimon round.  :)

Haha, I almost posted a one page analysis that detailed who bettertomorrowamy, Stacey, and Brak voted for in previous rounds (by the way, I do not suspect Brak, but bryak did, and I wanted to make it up to the guy by checking up on his guesses), but everybody else seems to have sneaked their vote in before it could go out, so that was rather moot, wasn't it?

I vote Stacey.  I'm iffy about her voting record and suspicious about her behavior in Round 4, since she changed her vote to jasimon1 after jasimon1 outed herself as a Vigilante.  (crosses fingers)

You know, looking back at the past voting history and everything, I noticed that Brak voted for Pak-Man, and also was one of the first to vote for tank.  If Brak was a Nazi, he certainly was quick to betray his team.  For this reasoning, I have to think Brak is probably not the Nazi.

jasimon has said she's the vigilante, and no one has stepped forth to dispute her on this claim, so I'm inclined to believe she's actually the vigilante.

That leaves from my perspective bettertomorrowamy, Dim, and Steve-O.

Last round, bettertomorrowamy voted for Steve-O at the end of the round, when everyone else was voting for Stacey.  I'm asking myself, why would a Nazi go out of their way to stick out from the crowd this late in the game?  Wouldn't they do best to remain hidden?  Plus there's amy's whole offer for the rest of us to vote for him if Stacey turned out not to be the Nazi.  That's either extreme cockiness, or amy is a citizen.

Dim has made a few attempts at deducing who the mafia folk are, and her campaign against bryak was about as successful as mine was against jasimon.  Was she trying to compensate for being mafia?  Or just a concerned citizen who, like me, jumped to the wrong conclusion?

Steve-O.  Steve-O has been playing a thoughtful game, and although he doesn't always seemed to be convinced by the rest of the group's reasoning, hasn't really voted all that suspiciously.

Truthfully, I was kind of hoping that James wouldn't get hit this round.  It would have made everything so much easier if one of the three I just mentioned got hit.  As it is, I'm going to admittedly be clutching at straws here, but I'll have to give it a go anyway.

-I voted for Steve-O to start off the last round before changing my vote to Stacey.  Bettertomorrowamy ended up voting for Steve-O, like I said previously.  If Steve-O was indeed mafia, he couldn't take out either myself or amy, as it would have brought unnecessary suspicion onto him.  He'd have to go with either jasimon, Dim, or James.

-If Dim was mafia, it would have been in her best interest to hit either myself or bettertomorrowamy, as we both at one point or another voted for Steve-O.  Suspicion would have then instantly been focused on Steve-O, and I'd think that, although he'd probably protest, he'd suffer a swift defeat at the hands of the citizens.  Of course, I can't quite get past the poetic irony of Dim being the secret mastermind of Mafia, and surviving the longest of her mafia bretherin, but, well, if that is the case, I'll gladly doff my cap to her and give her a round of applause, because, EXTREMELY well played.

Steve-O DID lead the charge against Yoohoo back when he was trying to drum up support for a Pak-Man vote, and he was the last person to vote for tank, which could easily have been a reluctant vote in an attempt to stay masked.  I'm sticking to my guns this time.  I'm voting for Steve-O.

I'll save you the trouble.  I voted for Minnesota, Yoohoo, tank, led the charge against you before switching to Compound, then voted for bryak, and then Steve-O before switching to Stacey.  I think that's all of them prior to just now.

If Steve-O was indeed mafia, he couldn't take out either myself or amy, as it would have brought unnecessary suspicion onto him.

So I'm damned if the Nazi kills you or amy... and, apparently, I'm damned if he/she doesn't, too.

Aw, man.  I can't find an emoticon that properly depicts a resigned sigh, so I think I'll go with this one instead.  :-*

I'm not sure how it would be possible for me to have been any better a citizen than I have through this game.  I've already mentioned that I helped take down both tank and Compound (and, incidentally, I was not the last one to vote for tank; funny how dignan clearly spent a lot of time looking through the thread, but conveniently made that little mistake.)  Every round, I've tried to put out a good, solid reason for voting the way I did, in spite of the fact that it made me a target.  And I tried to help out bryak when I thought he was a citizen, which seems like an awfully strange thing for a Nazi to do.

Even if you guys don't have the time to read through the whole thread, if you're thinking of voting for me, I only ask that you skim through my votes and see for yourself whether you think I was ever acting in the interest of anybody but the citizens.

As for my own vote... the smart thing for me to do would probably be to go after dignan.  He's seemed awfully keen to point the finger at me the last two rounds, which is odd, considering that he's admitted he doesn't have any concrete evidence against me.  And I'm trying to figure out why he wasted his last change vote for no good reason in the last round.  Maybe so he can make an early "bad" vote in the late rounds, and be able to use the excuse that he can't change it.

But I'm still voting for bettertomorrowamy, and here's why.  In spite of what happened to Stacey, I still think that the reasoning for going after the quiet players is sound.  And even if he turns out to be mafia, I'd rather dignan, who like me has spent most of the game hanging his ass out on the line, go home with the win.  I can't bear the thought of bta quietly flying under the radar and picking the rest of us off one at a time.

And his votes have been weird.  He went after Sideswipe for no reason in the first round, went after Brak when nearly everyone else was voting for Pak or Yoohoo in round two, and Stacey out of the blue in round four.  I could probably go on, but we've just driven the kids to Grandma's house, and I don't have my chart with me.  (Yes, I make a chart.  I can deny being a Nazi, but I can not deny being a huge dork.)

If I live to see another day, then I'll be happy to make a case against dignan.  Until then, I'm sticking to my guns.

Well, it has been determined that the final member of the Mafia is a dick.  We haven't killed off our Doctor yet, which I suppose is a good thing, but we also haven't killed off our final Nazi.  jasimon1 is clearly out of suspicion, so it's down between myself, dignan, and Steve-O.  We've all spoken out against somebody, we've all voted for Tank and Compound, and we've all voted for Yoohoo when Pak-Man was under suspicion.  So it wouldn't be any help to go back through and see who voted for who.  We've all stuck our neck out on the line, including jasimon1, and we've all lived up to this point.  Whoever this final Nazi is, he wanted to make things exceedingly difficult for us, and he's doing a bang-up job.

This Nazi has been taking out members in the game who are lower profile, or who are quite obviously not in the Mafia.  For example, Brak hadn't voted in the previous round, and he was the one who was offed.  (Just when I was all set to argue in his favor about not showing up, too.  I almost missed the deadline, as well, after all.)  If jasimon1 hadn't been saved by the Doctor in one of the previous rounds, she would be kicking back in purgatory right about now.  Whoever this Mafia member is, he's a smart one.  He's been planning his kills in such a way to make every round more difficult for the rest of the game.

Ever since the round where jasimon1 outed herself, dignan has been speaking out against almost everybody, casting doubt in everybody's minds about most players in this game, and has recently taken to "If so-and-so were in the Mafia, he/she would have done X and Y."  He's been one of the people who have voted later in the round, as if seeing what the majority was and jumping on the bandwagon, and he has used his two vote changes to vote for an outed Mafia member and for somebody who the rest of the board were voting for.

Steve-O has been under suspicion before.  He was the first person to cast doubt upon Yoohoo, and for this, he has been under suspicion from Yoohoo, who has correctly fingered two members of the Mafia.  He's also been relatively vocal about certain choices and his opinions on them, and had voted for bryak based on the evidence at hand, even though he readily admitted that he believed bryak was innocent.

I have been flying under the radar as far as this game goes, but I can't stay hidden any longer.  Not at this stage.  Stacey has pointed a finger at me when she was under suspicion, as a retaliation to all the votes placed against her.  dignan has also pointed a finger at me and has tried to cast me into doubt.  I've accused my share of Citizens, based on what I thought were logical reasonings, but were clearly full of holes.  And I must say, I do appreciate irony.

As far as I know, this is the evidence that sits against all of us.  Let's take this round slow and think things through.  At this point, nobody can hide behind who they've voted for and who they've led the charge against, as we all stand on relatively even ground here.  We need to be careful.  This is the round that can make or break us, and could potentially cost the Citizens the game if we aren't careful.

I will withhold my vote for now until I can how everybody in this game is operating.  I will say that I am torn between voting for dignan and Steve-O, but that should go without saying, ya?

Nice analysis, Dim.  I think it's probably smart to weigh our options at this point, though it hasn't really gotten us very far up to this point.

I'll be driving the family home from Grandma's for most of the day, so I won't be able to weigh in on the discussion until later.  Just wanted to give a heads-up so you know that I'm not lurking in the shadows waiting to pounce, or something.

I will say that I'm leaning dignan, but that's almost entirely because he's seemed very interested in getting rid of me lately.  I wouldn't put it past Dim, though, and I don't buy her "I really am dim" ploy for a second.  I need to go over the thread when I get home before I make up my mind, though.

Likewise, I'm watching football for most of today, so I'll be gone until later on, but I'd be willing to hold off my vote until we talk things through.  I would like to point out, though, that there is one simple fact here that must be true:  between Steve-O and Dim, one of you is a citizen, and one of you is a Nazi.  Because jasimon is the Vigilante, and I'm the Doctor.

The "I really am dim" thing is less of a ploy and more of a joke.  I've used this joke a couple of times in RiffChat, well before the Mafia game even emerged on the board.  Using a statement like this is my way of laughing off any of my mistakes.  As far as this game goes, I've made plenty of them, hence why this statement keeps getting dropped.  It's also gotten old, so I've stopped saying that every time I cast a vote for a Citizen.  Otherwise, I would have been voted off long ago based solely on how annoying I've become.  It's not gameplay, it's just a bad joke.

Each of us is as suspicious a person as the other.  We've made faulty accusations, cast many of the same votes, and all that jazz.  It's been the same song and dance the whole way through.  I will readily acknowledge that a lot of the decisions that I have made in this game will not help convince anybody that I am a Citizen.  The only thing I can hope to do is to admit that I am just as shifty a character as dignan and Steve-O and hope that it gets me a few brownie points.  I have admitted when I made a mistake, expressed remorse when I helped kill a Citizen, and have tried to approach this game in the best way possible, in order to help the Citizens take in another win.

I am nothing if not an honest person.  I am the last remaining Citizen, and I am ready to admit that I have made some stupid, stupid mistakes.  But please don't fault me for them.

Furthermore, I think I believe dignan when he says that he is the Doctor.  dignan's mentality towards how he plays the game is almost similar to how I might play the game if I were a Doctor.  He's been putting himself inside the heads of the other players, trying to think of how they would react if they were in the Mafia's shoes and what moves they would make.  He's thought things through very thoroughly, playing the game not just with voting records, but with mentalities and motives, as well.

I am still going to withhold my vote for the time being, even though it should be obvious who I suspect most.  I still want to take this round as slow as the time limit allows.

Edit: I thought of this just after I made this post, and I didn't want to make a double post, since those are a bit of a pet peeve of mine.

This point carries about as much water as the rest of my post does, but I figured it carried as much worth, as well:

This Mafia member has played the game brilliantly.  The votes were carefully placed, to try to keep himself hidden for as long as humanly possible.  The hits were well-planned, to eliminate any throwaway players and whittle the game just enough, so that the final rounds are tricky for the last remaining players.  He's a smart son of a bitch, and it's clear that he's been through this song and dance before.

Are these actions really the sort of actions that a first time player would be taking?

Rats.  I knew if I was away from the keys all day that something like this would happen.  Oh, well.  Just have to make the best of it.

The "I really am dim" thing is less of a ploy and more of a joke.

I know.  I was half-joking myself.  Mostly I was just pointing out that I think you're plenty smart enough to have pulled this off.  But now I'm quite confident you're one of the good guys, because of this:

between Steve-O and Dim, one of you is a citizen, and one of you is a Nazi.  Because jasimon is the Vigilante, and I'm the Doctor.

Very, very nice.  Brilliantly played, dignan.

Here is the final piece of the puzzle.  dignan is half right.  Of course jasimon is the Vigilante.  We've known that beyond doubt for several days now.  But I know dignan can't possibly be the Doctor, because -- as he has apparently guessed -- I am the Doctor.

And dignan has just revealed himself to be the Nazi.  Consider this: dignan has never presented any real evidence as to why he believes I'm mafia.  Yet, he's now claiming to be the Doctor in a last ditch effort to get others to vote for me.  But why would a Doctor reveal himself to be the most critical remaining citizen in the game if he doesn't have a clear idea of who the Nazi is?  If he guessed wrong, and Dim turned out to be the Nazi, he would have just signed his own death warrant... unless he already knew he has nothing to fear because he is the Nazi.

I wouldn't reveal myself to be the Doctor unless I was 100% certain of who's who, or my life depended upon it -- as it does now.  In fact, I've been actively trying to make myself look non-Doctorish for most of the game. Twice in earlier rounds I mentioned the Doctor in a (fairly blatant) effort to look like I wasn't him:

Ack!  Is there a doctor in the house?

If Compound isn't mafia, it's suicide.  If he is mafia, it's still suicide (unless the Doctors step in)

dignan must really be regretting trying to get me voted out two rounds ago, instead of just putting the hit on me.  When that didn't work out for him, he knew he couldn't use his mafia hit or he'd immediately be suspect.  So he's been trying to turn the rest of you against me since.  His falsely claiming to be the Doctor is a desperation move.  It's also a very smart move, because he knew I wouldn't be here all day to refute it.  He also knows that with the real Doctor gone, this game ends here, with him a winner.

So this is the way it ends: The Doctor goes down at the citizens' hands.  By the time you've recognized your mistake, he's picked off one more of you -- doesn't matter which, since the Doctor's not there to protect you anymore.  And, just like that, he's guaranteed himself at least a tie.  Or the win, if tiebreaker points mean anything.  If they do, I'd guess Dim is marked for death, since she's got fewer votes.

But it doesn't have to be like that.  Dim, you have one vote change remaining.  jasimon has used all of hers up, so you're my only hope.  Change your vote to dignan.  Cure the forum of this mafia sickness at last, and save the citizens.

I'm going to refrain from entering my vote until I hear your decision.  I don't want to drag this thing out, but as I mentioned, it ends here.  One way or another.  It's all up to you.  Choose wisely.

No pressure, though.  :)

No pressure, though.  :)

Fair enough.  It's just a silly board game, and I should really just relax.

It's a tough decision.  Before dignan became Dr. Dignan, I was juggling my decisions, and most were heavily weighed towards dignan.  His logic seemed to fit what I had in mind for a Doctor-mentality person, so I went with it.  Now, apparently, Dr. Dignan's Ph.D is a complete wash, a sham.  I'm really, absolutely torn here.  And now I have the mental image of two dueling Shatners in my head, so curse everybody in this game for bringing me to this point!  CURSE YOU ALL!

... You know what?  I'll be damned if I get a free goody and let it go to waste.

I'm using my final Vote Changey Thinger to cast my vote for dignan.  In previous rounds of this game, Steve-O and dignan have taken shots at each other, as far as I'm concerned, the shots from Steve-O to dignan seem a lot more logical than the shots from dignan to Steve-O.  Steve-O has also shown himself to be much more careful in this round than dignan has.  I guess football is much more important than Indy.   :P

I will say this, as an addendum: The two of you are crafty, crafty bastards.  Either way this turns out, it was an enjoyable game, filled with bad decisions and silliness, and you two really deserve to have made it out this far.  But if you guys ever make me think of dueling Shatners again, there's going to be hell to pay.

Edit: Sure, this might be a ploy for the final Nazi to get me to change my vote for the last time so he can turn around and vote for me so I can get kicked out of this game and he can mayhaps clinch a win.  But I'll stand by my decision, simply because it is too late for me to be partaking in logical thought.  The game's all yours, Steve-O.

Aww... I'll start making the friendship bracelets right now!

By the way, GM, let's assume for a second that the game does carry on until there are two people standing, a Nazi and a Citizen/Some other variation of good guy.  Would you determine the winner of the game based off of the Tie-Breaker votes or something?

Thanks, Steve-O, I figured you'd say something like that, which makes me absolutely certain I'm right in voting for you.  I AM the Doctor, and I've been leaving slightly more subtle hints about it than you have.  Let's look back at some of my posts in this game, shall we?

When I voted for YoohooRiffer, I referenced Doctor Who by saying, "fantastic" in quotes, which, as I'm sure many of us are aware, was Christopher Eccleston's catchphrase as The Doctor.

After Pak-Man was killed, I posted again saying "Great Scott," which was Doc Brown's signature line from Back To The Future.

When Stacey first voted for me, she said that my story about yard sales sounded fishy, to which I called her Sherlock Holmes, referencing myself to be Doctor Watson.

In my first long analytical post, I referenced examinations and a whiteboard, which was a reference to Doctor Gregory House.

Then I even MENTIONED House when I was wrong.

Not to mention if I had been a Nazi, it would have been EXCEEDINGLY stupid of me to be the very first person after Yoohoo mentioned him to vote for Tank, which I was.

So, good show, Steve-O.  You speak English well, you Nazi bastard.

This game is now over. The winners for Mafia #3 are Steve-O (Nazi) and Dim of the Yard (Citizen).

Congratulations, winners! Your names will be entered in the records thread as the winners, but you will not be entered as qualifiers for the Mafia Championship game, since this was not a qualifying game.

Also, please stay tuned to this thread. I will be posting some awards shortly.

The Blind Luck Award has been awarded to the Nazi team (Pak-Man, Steve-O, and tank2134) for eliminating a vigilante (ChaosFromOrder) in the first round.

The Craftiness Award has been awarded to Steve-O, for a masterful performance in this game. The other 5 mafia members were eliminated from the game by the citizen vote of Round 4, leaving you outnumbered 9 to 1 at the start of Round 5. Despite these nearly insurmountable odds, you went on to achieve a (partial) victory for the Mafia team - the first Mafia victory so far on these forums. You worked so hard to fool everyone, that you even managed to go until the very last vote of Round 6 before receiving a vote - the only living player in the game who had not received a vote up until that point. Truly an impressive set of accomplishments. If ChaosFromOrder's lifespan in these games is any indication, you will not be able to survive the first round of gameplay pretty much from now on. ;)

The Bonehead Award has been awarded to jasimon1, for pretty much single-handedly dooming the citizens. You acted on impulse without waiting for information from your informant, killing a citizen who had already successfully uncovered two mafia members. You then outed yourself, in the process dooming the only player left who could figure out for sure who the remaining mafia member was: your informant. This is the cardinal sin of a vigilante. Considering how low a profile TripeHoundRedux had been keeping up until you bungled Round 4, chances are pretty low that he would have been killed by a mafia hit before he discovered Steve-O's identify if not for you exposing him.

All in all, this was a pretty interesting game. Congratulations again to our two winners.

Everyone, please post and let me know if you have any feedback about the Doctor and Bomb positions. Do you think we should keep them? Do you think we should change them out for something else?

I guess I'm not the person to give feedback on this one way  or the other since I haven't played normal rules yet.  I had a lot of fun pre and post mortum.  I enjoyed playing and would like to have an opportunity to qualify for the championship at some point, but that doesn't mean I'm opposed to the variances in rules either.  I'm game for whatever.

PS.  Sharing a computer with Tank really sucked for trying to play the game.  I haven't done this much logging in and out since my computer lost the ability to store cookies.  And I didn't intercept any Nazi communiques either.

OK here's what I sent Dr Jones per in a pm (or words to that effect because I didn't keep a copy):

I like the Doctor role but I think it might be more useful if it performed a restorative rather than protective function. That way in this game either Amandagirl or I could have been resurrected after our hits.

That's not the doctor, that's the holy grail.  And I doubt that we'll be playing Indiana Jones again.  If you want the doctor to be able to do that it should only be able to be used once.  Or else the game will never end.

The only problem I see with a restorative doctor is that everybody would know the game role (i.e. vigilante, citizen, informant) of the person being ressurected. In every version of Mafia I have ever personally played in which a doctor-type character exists, it has always been a preventative as opposed to a restorative role, for just that reason.

I don't think resurrected informants would live long enough to get any information at all.  They would just be taken out again and again.  The protect rule doesn't let anyone know the persons role thus leaving protected informant's identity a secret,  (provided of course that their vigilante doesn't out them anyway.)

Well that all depends on how you time the various "rounds" doesn't it? The mafia can keep wasting their hits while the informants keep getting a guess at at another member of the mafia.

It's already too hard for the mafia to win the odds game on this forum for some reason (even though statistically the mafia has about a 55% to 45% advantage over the citizens, it doesn't play out that way here)... giving the citizens even more advantages would just make it next to impossible. The game is SUPPOSED to favor the mafia, by a small margin anyway. The citizens are the underdogs because they are in the dark, and generally speaking don't work together very well, due to the mob mentality effect.

Oh, yes.  I'm glad nobody was around to witness my little victory dance.  It was... most undignified.

Mostly I was just relieved that this game was finally over.  Being a lone target, hiding in plain sight from a bunch of people who want you dead, is more stressful than I could have imagined.

If ChaosFromOrder's lifespan in these games is any indication, you will not be able to survive the first round of gameplay pretty much from now on. ;)

BTW, Steve-O, you made a comment earlier about the chart you use to play the game, because you're such a nerd? You should see mine. I wrote an Excel program to keep track of everything. It can actually be used to play the game as a player, or run the game as the moderator. It takes care of pretty much everything - even automatically tabulates tiebreaker votes as you go, shows the voting history for all players visually, and figures out who is currently slated to die based on the current round's votes (taking the tiebreakers into account). I've... got a problem. :)

Ooh send me a copy, I use Excel for everything (I plan my gym visits with it, tracks my bloodpressure too).

Congrats Steve-O... very masterfully played!

I'd applaud your victory, but thanks to your bomb blast my hands are lying many yards apart from each other.

Good game everyone and congrats to the winners.  I think it would be nice to keep the bomb and doctor in the game, but if we all decide to just leave them out that is fine with me as well. I just have a lot of fun playing it any way that you decide since a bunch of you have more experience with this than i do.

Everyone, please post and let me know if you have any feedback about the Doctor and Bomb positions. Do you think we should keep them? Do you think we should change them out for something else?

I really like the Doctor and Bomb positions.  It spices the game up a bit.  I'd like to see more mafia games with these expanded roles.

Yay, Steve-O!  You kicked butt, man!  Mostly, mine.  (shakes fist)  But that won't stop me from making that friendship bracelet that I promised you!  Would you prefer flames up and down yours, or do you think a bunch of swastikas would be more suitable, considering your role?   ;)

And if anybody is still wondering, no, I did not make a deal with the Mafia.  I'm an honest person, but I'm easily persuaded.  The evidence Steve-O had presented in the final round seemed solid, and I happened to miss every single one of dignan's pop culture references that should have otherwise made his role in this game loud and clear.  Plus, this wasn't a qualifying game, so what did I have to gain from a stalemate with Steve-O?

(Besides, if it was a qualifying game, I would have insisted that they pull my name out of the lineup, since I was a grade-A bonehead throughout the proceedings.)

The Bomb was a pretty interesting aspect of this game, I will admit.  It was rather spiffy, and quite convenient that the Kali never got to use theirs.  The Doctor I'm somewhat iffy about, but it has worked in this game at least once, and trying to figure out who the Doctor was made an exciting final round... even though my reasoning blew up in my face.

All in all, I'm sorry, Citizens.

Much agreed.  That would take the fun out I think.

Steve-O: fuck you for killing me

Chris: I love the bomb idea

Steve-O:  fuck you for killing me just before I was going to use the bomb

You're just damn lucky that the Nazis killed me in Round 1, pyro. As you know, I've had you pinned since pretty much the beginning, and was seriously considering whacking you in Round 1 without even waiting for anything from my informant. If it wasn't for the Nazis, you probably wouldn't have even gotten to play. ;)

Steve-O: fuck you for killing me

For the record, I killed you because you tried to vote again immediately after the citizen kill.  I figured that no Kali would make that mistake, since they would be focused on planning their hit.  I considered the possibility that you had done it on purpose to throw off suspicion, but I decided that was a little too reckless a move when there were still Nazis floating around.  It never really occurred to me that you might just not be paying attention.

I felt kind of bad about it at the time.  Now, not so much.

so what was Jasimon1's reason for killing YoohooRiffer, right after 2/3 of his guesses (and ultimately 3/3) had been shown to be correct?

If I recall, she walked into the chatroom while the game was being spoken of, and Yoohoo said a handful of things about the game that made her nervous.  I think that was how she explained it away, anyway.  Too lazy to check.

Fundermentally it was due to impatience. I couldn't give her a tip that round because I'd made my one incorrect guess (Dim). The next guess was right on the money, but that lead to my death ::). It's a shame because my next guess was going to be Pyro and then Steve.

Here's a thing, how would it be if say a informant and a vigilante were hit but they were two halves of the two parings so that there was a vigilante and an informant missing their partner, that the gamesmaster could reconnect the missing halves?

nope... the whole point of the informant/vigilante is that it is a one-time match. Again, it would be far too powerful for the citizens if they could all communicate with each other, or if they could be reconnected if one of their counterparts is killed.

Just wanted to say a blanket thanks to those of you who have congratulated me, and to all of the rest of you who made this game such a sleep-depriving challenge.  I especially want to give a shout out to dignan and Dim.  You both played your butts off, with intelligence and guts.  I would have been happy to see either of you win.

I also wanted to mention to Chris that I've now got a tight enough grasp on the rules that I'd be willing to GM a game, if he'd like to be able to actually participate in one.

Thanks, man.  Likewise, you played brilliantly, Steve-O.  You definitely deserved the win.

Me too.

Hey Chris, any idea when the next signups will start?

Probably around the first of November. I have an extremely busy week ahead of me and it wouldn't be fair to everyone to try and manage the game, unless I can make other arrangements. We shall see.

I will, say however, that the next game will be a Championship qualifier.

Thanks for letting us know.   Since it's a championship round, does that mean no special rules this time?

Championship Qualifier?!

... I'd better sit this next one out, then.  Hope you don't mind if I watch.
