Title: MAFIA -- Game One FINISHED (Winners and MVP's Announced)
Post by: ChrisHanel on August 20, 2007, 11:38:35 AM
One of the greatest games to grace message boards, Mafia holds a special place in my heart as one that I've wasted much time on as a player and Gamemaster.

For those of you who have never played the Mafia game before; the rules, roles, and how the game is played is as follows:

Game roles:

Citizen - The object of the game for the citizens (i.e., everyone who isn't in the Mafia) is to figure out who is in the Mafia and kill them. Citizens accuse people of being in the Mafia and vote on who to kill during the Citizen's round.

Mafia member - The two (sometimes more) Mafia families work separately and are trying to kill the Informants, Vigilantes, the citizens and the other Mafia family's members. The way they do that is by PMing the other members in their family and deciding on which players they want to kill. Once they chose a player to kill, they pick a member from their family to PM me with the hit. I will announce that family's hit in the thread and that player will be dead. Note: Try and have some idea of who you'll want to kill beforehand, so if you can't reach one of your family's members, you'll still get your hit in on time. If a family doesn't PM me by the end of their 24 hours they won't get a hit that round. Also, please figure out who will be PMing me the hits for your family, and make sure your whole family is in agreement with the hit choices so I don't get multiple hits from different members of your family with different names of who they want to kill.

Informant - The job of the Informants is to find out who is in the Mafia and report it to the Vigilante and/or the Citizens. After the mob families have made their hits the Informants can PM me and ask me if one person is in the Mafia or not. If that person is in the Mafia, I will tell them, otherwise, I will tell them they're not. When the Informant finds out a player is in the Mafia, they PM the Vigilante with the name of the Mafia member. At any time, the Informant can announce what they know to the other players in the game. Note: When PMing the Vigilante the Informant is only allowed to say the name of the player in the Mafia and what family they are in. No talking about the game should be happening in these PMs. Also, please don't tell anyone, besides the Vigilante, who is in the Mafia through PMs because that ruins the game. The Informants can announce what they know in the game thread, but then the Mafia will know who the Informants are, so usually they're only good for one shot doing this.

Vigilante - The Vigilantes works like this: Each Vigilante has their own Informant who knows who the Vigilante is and sends him/her the names of the players that are in the Mafia. The Vigilante then uses that knowledge to make a hit like the Mafia does. The catch is the Vigilante will only get to make two hits per game. The Vigilante is not allowed to respond to the Informant's PMs, only take note of who they tell them is in the Mafia. The Vigilante can PM me at any time in the game with a hit, but they must use their 2 hits in separate rounds. Note: If your Informant is killed you still get your hits, but be careful doing this as the last thing you want to do is kill off a Citizen.

    How the game is played:

1. The game is played with 25 players or more players. Of the twenty-five (or any number of players) people who are playing, I will PM six players (or more, because three mafia families can exist) alerting them that they are in one of the two (or three) Mafia families (various Mob Family names). I will then PM two other players alerting them that they are the Informants for this round, and two more players who will be the Vigilantes. Everyone else will be a citizen.

A standard 25-man game will have 2 groups of 3 mafia members, two informants, and two vigilantes. The mafia members do not know the identities of the other mafia, nor are the vigilantes initially notified about the identity of their informants.

2. The game starts off with a citizen vote. During the citizen vote everyone posts who they think is in the Mafia and votes on who to kill for that round. Whoever gets the most votes gets killed, and I will announce if they were in the Mafia or not. Now remember, the Mafia members can (and do) vote as citizens, so be on the look out for who votes for who and whatnot during this round. (Tiebreakers are solved by counting the total number of votes for the game, highest total between the tying votegetters is whacked.)

3. After the citizen's vote round, the Mafia families each PM me with their hits and I announce the them in the thread. Note: Mafia families are encouraged to get their hits in as early as possible.

4. After I announce the Mafia kills we start over with another citizen vote. Any time during the citizen's round the Informants can PM me asking if one player is in the Mafia.

5. After that citizens round and the Informants PM me, we just keep repeating these steps: Mafia hit, citizen vote, Informant PM, Mafia hit, citizen vote, Informant PM...so on and so on until we have our winners.

6. The last Mafia members, or citizens, or one Mafia member and one citizen left standing at the end of the game will be the winners. EDIT: Game can end when deemed to be good for timing.

    Rules

1. The game is restricted to twenty-five players. I will open the floor to contestants and the first twenty-five people to post in the thread saying that they want in are in. Afterwards anyone who wants to play has to wait until the next game. Note: This is not always the case. Games have been played with as many as 50 players.

2. If you get killed by either the Citizens, Vigilante, or Mafia you are no longer part of the game. At this point, *do not post in the thread about the game!* You can't talk about the game currently being played, accuse people of being in the Mafia, or vote on whom to kill. Dead men tell no tales!

3. Both the Mafia families and the Citizens have 24 hour time limits for their rounds. So, if you're in a Mafia family, decide on who to kill and send your hit in quickly. Citizens, post your vote early. The GM has the right to question the players about ending the round early if everyone has voted and nobody has any intention of changing their votes.

3a. Lightning Round - Upon the first citizen round where there are 10 or less players remaining in the game, Citizen rounds will last for 24 hours or until all players have cast their votes. At that point, the round is considered over and no vote changes are allowed, even in the absence of a GM announcing the round as finished.

4. No multiple accounts allowed! You are only allowed to play with one user name per game. If I find out someone is playing as two different names they will be banned from all future games of Mafia.

5. The only people who are allowed to talk about the game in PMs are the members of the Mafia families. The Informant is allowed to send the Vigilante PMs, but only containing the name of Mafia members and what family they are in, no other talk about the game should be happening in these PMs. The only place anyone else (dead or alive) should be talking about the game is in the game thread. Not in emails, IMs, PMs, at other message boards, but here in the game thread.

6. If you miss 3 Citizen votes in a row you will now be removed from the game. I'm sorry if this seem harsh, but it stinks if you sign up and then don't participate when someone else could have had your spot in the game. Anyway, this isn't as bad as it sounds, what it means is you'll have to miss 3 Citizen votes and 2 Mafia kills before action is taken. At up to 24 hours per round that's at least 3 days, and as many as 5 days, you'd have to go without posting in the game thread before being kicked from the game. The "up to 5 days" could be less because the Mafia doesn't always take the whole 24 hours to get their hits in. Anyway, if you think you'll miss 3 straight Citizen rounds for some reason please let me know in advance and perhaps we can work something out, otherwise you will be booted from the game.

Extra game info: While you cannot sign up for the next game while a game is still going, I will PM you telling you when a game is starting if you'd like. Simply post, "PM me when the next game starts" in the game thread and I will do so. Note: Please do not PM me asking to PM you about the next game, it's much easier if you just post in the game thread. Also, if you could highlight your post, like so, it will help your post standout when I'm getting the PMs ready and increases your chances of me not accidentally missing your post.

Well, I think that's about it, if you have any question about how the game is played please feel free to PM me or ask them here.

Prizes: Yes, Prizes! Whoever is left standing at the end of the game of Mafia will win a FREE Rifftrax!

Ok, if everyone is ready, Let's play.......Mafia!

So, what's the strategy here?  I feel like it will probably be just random stabs in the dark to guess who's who...it sounds like it could be fun, but I feel like I'm missing something.
Title: Re: MAFIA -- Signups beginning now!
Post by: ChrisHanel on August 20, 2007, 01:06:27 PM
The main bulk of the entertainment is in citizen voting: People shamelessly trying to convince people that they are not mafia when the votes start coming in and the prognosis isn't good for them. For those really into the strategy, a lot can be deduced in voting patterns, as people will tend to vote in Blocs and it can say a lot if people aren't careful.

The amount of rules looks intimidating but it's a rather simple game once it gets going and the amount of hilarity that ensues can sometimes be unmeasured in magnitude.

(I think it's required that i use the words "Hilarity" and "Ensues" at least once a day on this board.)

Also, Jack Ross, in response to your statement, it IS a lot of shooting in the dark... part of what makes it fun is the "informed minority" of the mafia team trying to take out the "uninformed majority" of the citizenship without getting themselves found out and eliminated.

I love Mafia. It was originally a party game, and in the very late 80s or early 90s, it started being played in High Schools and places like that. It's a very interesting social experiment, and for the Mafia team in particular, there are a lot of ways to attempt to manipulate the citizenry to do what you want, or to fool them into killing each other off. In fact, the game was ORIGINALLY developed as a sociel / psychological exercise by a university professor in Russia (back in '85 or '86 or so).

Well, hrm. We need more people and signups have dried off. We have more than enough active users on this forums to get a game going, but not enough interest.

I'll keep taking signups until the end of the night tonight, we can probably run a game with a minimum of 20 players. If you talk with other Riffaholics outside of the message board, mention to them to check out the game rules and to sign up if they want. If we don't get enough players, we can try again another time.

I refuse to be one of those guys that spams every board to try and gain attention. :)

Chris, maybe you should post just on the General Off-Topic to let people know we are doing a sign-up game... I know that not everyone reads the Board Games forum, so some of the regulars might not even know we are playing.

That being said, I'm REALLY surprised that Junkyard hasn't signed up. He's usually first to jump at any new thread (and second, fourth, fifth, eigth, tenth, etc.... he posts a lot).

I gotta admit, this is a bit more complicated than I usually go for.
Title: Re: MAFIA -- Signups beginning now! WIN FREE RIFFTRAX!
Post by: Chaos on August 24, 2007, 09:14:57 AM
It sounds complicated, but it is actually pretty straightforward (in execution) once you start playing. Basically, there are only 2 things that happen in every "round" of play...

1) All citizens (which is everyone) vote on who they THINK is a mafia member, and the person who gets the most votes is executed by the mob, and removed from the game. The moderator then informs the citizens whether or not the person they just killed was in the mafia.

2) The mafia, in secret, decide amongst themselves who they are going to "whack," and inform the moderator. The person who is whacked is also removed from the game.

Everything else happens sort of behind the scenes, and if you happen to get randomly selected to be a mafia member, a vigilante, or an informer, Chris would include your special instructions in the PM.

hahah, sweet. Mafia + Staff = PARTY. Staff almost never win Mafia, because they usually get lynched by the citizens early on... just like most of the million dollar winners got axed almost immediately on Survivor All-Stars. ;)

Stay tuned for your assignements....

To: RiffTrax Employees
From: Rifftrax Consigliere, Wilson Fisk

A dark cloud hangs over us during these times. While we all strive to serve or great and powerful Don Michaelangelo, there are those who would wish to see him wiped away and take the glory of Rifftrax for themselves. You know of who I speak... The Corbettinis. The Murphiosos. They serve their own Dons, masters who want control of Rifftrax and to destroy everything that we stand for. Worse still, we believe that they have infiltrated our ranks, and seek to eliminate us from the inside. It is fortunate that they do not seek to unite in this fight, as they both seek the prize for themselves. But we still face two enemies. Enemies which we must flush from our society!

I ask you now, identify these rogues. Drive them from the shadows so that we may deal with them at once. I believe in you to know friend from foe. I leave this task to you.

You may begin your search at 5PM (Forum Time). I want the first suspect brought forward within 24 hours.

Good Hunting,
Consigliere Fisk

GM NOTE: The game starts at 5! All Mafia, Informants, and Vigilantes have received their instructions. If you have not received instructions, then you are a citizen. Good luck! --Chris

Since we have no way of knowing who the Mafia could be so early in the game I say we just kill the last person to remove their name from the sign up list.  Anyone not paying enough attention to see that the game has started should go as they could cause problems later on.  If by tomorrow there are still many names we'll pick from them at that point.  Is this acceptable?

Since we have no way of knowing who the Mafia could be so early in the game I say we just kill the last person to remove their name from the sign up list.  Anyone not paying enough attention to see that the game has started should go as they could cause problems later on.

You, sir, are a cold and unfeeling brute.  Is it your presumption that the slow and ignorant should be culled mercilessly from the herd?  That simple tardiness is reason enough to commit cold-blooded murder?  I gather that you fancy yourself an agent of Darwin, a catalyst of the natural deselection of those whose posting schedules do not meet the demanding specifications of your own, personal Riffmaster Race.

Well I, for one, will not sit by and mutely condone these forum eugenics.  One vote for YoohooRiffer, I say.

Looks like you could get yourself a reprieve Yoohoo, if you can convince a few more people to give TorgosPizza the axe.

FWIW, I didn't actually believe you were a member of the mafia (as you say, it's impossible to tell this early unless someone posts something truly foolish and gives themselves away), but your scheme struck me as a little too smart (making you dangerous), and also conveniently automatically guaranteed your own safety, since it was your idea and you immediately crossed your name off (making you doubly smart).

Good luck, mate, and I hope you can get yourself out of the fire. It's the nature of the mob... it can turn in an instant. :)

Also, in the interest of disclosure, it was discussed in the RiffTrax Chat Room whether votes could be changed. The answer is yes; any vote can be changed up until the end of the 24 hours.

The RiffTrax offices buzzed through their daily routines while all the workers nervously looked over their shoulders. The Kingpin sat in his office the entire day. The blinds were closed and nobody dared to knock. The rumors were that he wasn't responding to Email, phone calls, or even the latest Myspace survey that was going around the office.

YooHooRiffer made the first offer of peace; a safe zone of officers in the hopes of identifying those too afraid to come forward. At first, it seemed like the plan had merit. But as it is in this world, this only caused more accusations. The word was YooHoo was up to something. Soon, the voting started. The steady noise of conversation and typing would be interrupted as an employee would approach Mr. Fisk's secretary. Usually, they would have a piece of paper in their hands, or would whisper something into her ear over the desk. When this happened, all activity would stop. Stares would be exchanged, wordless glances of apprehension and accusation.

And all this time, Mr. Fisk remained in his office. Silent.

It was the end of the workday, and nobody was heading for the door. Whether it was fear of being shot in the back while leaving the office, or morbid curiosity of who would be the first accused, the entire office stayed in their chairs, pretending to look busy. There was so little work being done, that the inter-office Minesweeper high score was broken and re-broken three times.

And then, the door opened. The Kingpin came through the doorway, surveyed the officemates around him, and exhaled.

"Everyone, follow me to the server room."

There was an excitement as everyone present realized they were not a target. The adrenaline of surviving the day caused a cautious excitement, not wanting to appear gleeful in front of the boss who was about to possibly kill one of his own. The mob entered the door to the cold room, and there sat TorgosPizza, quietly chewing on a Twizzler while Chumbawumba blared through his headphones. He faced away from the door, happily banging away at some code.

He never knew it was coming. The cord of his headphones was around his neck faster than you can say "Fatal Error". He struggled against his attackers but it wasn't enough to save him. With his last convulsion, he attempted to jump away and his foot caught a large cord.

The lights in the room extinguished, and panic filled the room. A large crashing noise went through the pitch black. Workers scrambled to find the errant plug, and it was Mr. Fisk's secretary who reconnected the light to its power source.

The lights came to, and Torgos lay dead, his face blue and the Chumbawumba track finished. He had been knocked down, but he would *not* be getting up again. Mr. Fisk checked his pockets and discovered something chilling: Detailed notes on supposed mafia members he had intended to turn in, part of a large investigation from activity on Rifftrax's servers. But his investigation hadn't been completed, and now, nobody was left to finish the job.

And then, another scream. In the madness of the fray in the darkness, more victims were found. An entire server rack had fallen over and crushed Smilin' Jack Ross, who never stood a chance. On top of the rack was GregMcDuck, who appeared to have been attempting to lift up the server rack off his co-worker, only to be stabbed in the back.

The knife held a note in place, sticky from blood.

"DEAL WITH IT, PINK BOY."

The Citizens have killed TorgosPizza, who was a Citizen.
The Corbettinis have killed Smilin' Jack Ross, who was a Citizen.
The Murphiosos have killed GregMcDuck, who was a Citizen.

To: RiffTrax Employees
From: Wilson Fisk, Rifftrax Consigliere

A new citizen vote starts NOW. I will not tolerate this ineptitude from my employees. Not only do we slay one of our own (and best) employees, but two more are lost to our enemies in our own office. This is unacceptable, intolerable, and many other multi-syllable phrases.

I have dispatched two informants to find out what they can. They will not be identified for their own safety. If they do their jobs, we stand a chance at victory. Pray that they are smarter than the rest of you.

Votes. On my desk. 24 Hours. GO.

GM NOTE: New citizen vote, informants please submit your mafia guesses to Wilson Fisk ASAP. A new round starts now!

R.I.P. Greg McDuck and Smilin' Jack Ross.

Greg and Jack both voted for TorgosPizza, who was a citizen. Chances are very low that they were executed by the mafia because of their votes, since their votes couldn't give us any clues as to who the mafia members might be. They were probably random first round targets.

Last round, Principal Skin Trade and AmazingThor did not submit votes to Fisk's secretary as he requested. It is possible that one or both of them are Mafiosos, who may have made the error of not realizing they also vote as citizens. It may be wise to eliminate them, just in case.

Or, YoohooRiffer could have fooled us all with his empassioned speech declaring his innocence. Or he might just earnestly want to help us catch the real criminals.

Personally, I think that the two citizens who did not vote are the most likely candidates to be mafia members at this point, so I say we vote for one of them.

Since Principal Skin Trade has already been voted for by someone else, I am also voting to axe him.

The autopsy results are in, and some shocking information was included in the report.

The death of GregMcDuck, originally believed to be committed by the Murphioso family, has been proven to actually be the workings of the Corbettinis. The handwriting on the note, which said "Deal with it, pink boy", was actually revealed to be from Don Corbettini himself. This was obviously an attempt to throw us off the trail but we have capable men and women preventing such happenings as we speak.

After this revelation, our security looked into the matter further. Since the lights were out during the murder, we did an analysis of the audio on the tapes, which produced Smilin' Jack Ross's final words.

Upon initially listening, the quote sounds like he is protecting a fellow co worker from the falling server rack... "Watch out, it's a Serv-- OH!"

...I think you know where I'm going with this.

I have spoken with Don Michaelangelo, and he has all the confidence in the world that you will bring these opposing factions down.

-Fisk

GM NOTE: Yeah, I Screwed up. The hits were actually switched around. The Corbettinis killed Greg, and the Murphiosos killed Smilin' Jack. I'll leave the old posts as they are but all future vote tallies and notation will be properly labeled. Apologies! --CH

Hmm.. this is hard.  I was considering voting Amazing Thor or Principal Skin Trade due to their silence (esp. Amazing Thor since we still have yet to hear from him). However, when I think of poor Torgos Pizza's death, that quick rally of votes, it makes me think foul play.  So I am going vote for the flip-flopper that sealed his fate, Tempestjonny.  I'm sorry but your need to change your vote seems very suspicious to me.

Incidentally, pyro, I am highly offended by your implication that I am somehow attempting some kind of devious, out in the open subterfuge. *I* am a citizen in good standing, sir, and I have paid my dues to society. My only interest is in using my skills in analysis to help us identify the killers before it is too late. For shame, sir!

Were I not a man of honour, I would change my vote in retaliation. However, I must stand by what I have said - therefore, my vote remains for Principal Skin Trade. But know that you are on notice! I'm watching you, with your big eyeball there...

Something to keep in mind: our goal right now is to rid the world of those dastardly mafiosos before they pick all of us off, one at a time.  Even if you're *in* the mafia, it's in your best interests to take out members of the other family.

If AmazingThor is in the mafia, he would have been informed of such via personal message.  And unless he's changed his default forum settings, he also got an e-mail, whether he's checked the forum or not.  Based on that, I have to believe that he's simply an innocent, if tardy, citizen.

Principal Skin Trade, on the other hand, is clearly paying attention.  I think he skipped the initial vote in an attempt to fly under the radar.   One more vote for Skin Trade!

GM NOTE: Rule clarification, based on a statement I saw earlier in the thread. It is, in fact, *not* in the best interests of the mafia to try and kill each other, as the objective for the mafia to win is for mafia members of either group to be the only ones left. Therefore, if there's 2 Corbettini's and 1 Murphioso remaining at the end of the game, all three players win. Since 2 Mafia kills a round is better than one (if you're Mafia), then you definitely hope you don't kill opposing mafia members.

That is all.

Three desks. All empty. Yellow tape boarded off the door to the server room. The personal items of those who occupied these cubicles still remained, as the organization was still reeling from their deaths. One of these deaths was their own doing. All three needed to be avenged.

Now, having a second chance, nobody wasted time voting. There would be no grand gestures, no attempts at peace. It was finally understood that this was a war, and with that war came the need to fight for survival. Don Michaelangelo needed Rifftrax to do their jobs, and now was the time.

Mr. Fisk's door once again remained closed, the blinds shut and no sign of life from the inside. Nobody dared even go near. The secretary offered neither advice nor sympathy to those bringing by their votes - only a wary eye and a look that said, "Thank you, now please leave for your own safety."

Once again, the work day drew to a close and the office refused to budge. Nobody knew when the hammer would drop or how it would go down. All, for this brief moment, was calm. A panicked, grief-stricken calm.

It was the phone ringing that undid the edgy peace. Mr. Fisk's secretary stared at the phone for a moment before picking it up, noticing that all the ambient noise of keyboards and chatter had suddenly stopped. She eyed the room nervously before pressing a button.

"Mr. Fisk, you have an urgent phone call on Line 1."

She waited for a moment, heard the transfer connect, and replaced the receiver before returning back to work. Observant officemates would later reccolect how she had collected her purse and belongings and quietly made for the door not 30 seconds after the phone call had been made.

Mr. Fisk stepped through the doorway.

"Everyone... join me in the media room."

There were a few glances; a hesitation. Nobody worked in the media room. Mr. Fisk sneered.

"You have a hearing problem?" Directed at nobody, yet heard by all, the office moved as one.

********************

Rifftrax's media room was, at first glance, an overglorified home theater. 30 theater seats had been installed on a basic wooden tiered stadium arrangement in front of a large projector screen. Mr. Fisk attempted to fiddle with the miniature remote for a moment before giving up, his giant hands unable to navigate the miniature buttons. He threw it to a random person in the first row who began to power up the projector and prepare it for the ensuing show.

"Your votes were tabulated, and I couldn't help but do some second guessing after yesterday's disaster. It's not that I don't trust you... it's just that I don't trust you."

Some dared to chuckle, others remained still. Fisk paid no mind, and continued.

"TorgosPizza was a smart man, one of our best. And he is here no longer due to our own ignorance. Perhaps, if he had a bit more time, he'd have finished his investigation and pointed us to some of the moles in our organization, maybe all of them. Until we find a replacement, that work remains unfinished. Oh, speaking of which, I've started a thread on the forums looking for a new web guy, please pass it on to your friends." A few jotted notes as he continued.

"TorgosPizza was trying to find the mafia, and even in death, he has done so." A gasp went through the room, the implications filling the hope (or dread) of all inside with a rush of adrenaline. Mr. Fisk produced a small memory card, which he delicately held in his hand.

"I got a phone call from our security company. Apparently, there were *two* security cameras in the server room." Cheers. Screams of delight. Applause from all sides. Fisk wouldn't be going through these motions if he wasn't already sure, would he? Fisk placed the memory card in the computer next to him and began to play the lone video file.

The video was standard enough. Sitting on top of Torgo's desk, the camera aimed over his shoulder from a spot near his mouse. Some deduced that the camera must have been planted in his Stewie Griffen 12" standee. The view offered a wonderful angle of Torgo himself and the space behind him. Even when wrapped up in Chumbawumba, he was watching his back. It was too bad it didn't save him this time.

The video continued, and the office watched in sadness as their former selves filled the screen and began to choke their webmaster to death. A few choked back tears, and Mr. Fisk stood stoic, seemingly wanting to remind his crew the costs of making bad choices.

And then, in the tape, the lights went out. The audience groaned. Nothing had been revealed. Noises were heard, but nothing was visible... and yet, something was happening. The screen grew brighter, as a green cast began to take up the entire field of view.

"Holy shit, it's night vision!" someone shouted. Fisk nodded, a small grin appearing on his face for the first time in what must have been weeks. The video played on.

Smilin' Jack Ross ran across the frame through the darkness, seemingly seeking out something on the other side of the room. Then, out of the right side of frame, someone started to fall back. Smilin' Jack yelled, "Look out, a Servo!" before pulling the potential victim out of the way. The falling server rack appeared in frame, crushing Jack and sending a loud bang through the room. The catalyst of the server's fall was unseen.

And then, GregMcDuck, attempted hero of the day, rushing to the server rack, hoping to save his comrade in arms. His face one of pained frustration, unable to lift the heavy weight off his friend.

And then, a glint.

A knife.

"PAUSE IT!!!!" went the scream, deafening all those through the room. The image went still, and Fisk could not wait, taking the remote and clumsily zooming in on a section in the center.

Principal Skin Trade stood, grinning like a madman, the knife held aloft before plunging into its target.

The room suddenly went crazy as a shout and a scream. Principal leapt from the back row of the theater where had been attempting to lay low. The door might as well have been miles away, as a sea of arms and angry fists descended on him. He was held down. He frantically looked for an ally, anybody to help, but whoever his friends were, they were playing it safe by not revealing themselves, knowing there was no chance to save him.

Fisk grabbed Principal by the collar and literally tossed him out of the room. Cheers of victory followed his stead as Fisk picked him up again and dragged him to the copy machine, opening it up and placing Principal's head inside the improvised torture device.

"Who are you working with? Who else works with Don Murphioso?" Fisk asked, as Principal tried to be a tough guy and smile through the pain.
"Screw you."

The lid to the copy machine slammed down onto Principal's head, as he screamed and tried to free himself, which was impossible against Fisk's tight grip. The boss lifted up the lid again, leaning in close to the enemy.

"Who are you working with?!" Principal responded by spitting fresh blood onto Fisk's immaculate white suit. Fisk's face turned as red as the stain. The copier lid raised up to its full height before coming down with the force of a neutron bomb. The glass beneath Principal's face shattered as electric sparks began to shoot out from all directions. Fisk's fist pounded on the keypad and the copier sputtered out the last image it would ever produce: Principal's last facial expression, a look that plainly showed he regretted ever crossing Don Michaelangelo's family.

Fisk straightened his tie and handed the photocopy to the nearest employee. "Call the copier company, order a new one. And see this is framed and hung up in the lobby," he said, before exiting his room and making his way back to his office.

"And where the hell is AmazingThor? I'm paying him way too much."

The door shut and after a pause, a muffled yell ached to be heard through the office walls.

"WE GOT ONE!!!"

The Citizens have killed Principal_Skin-trade, who was a member of the Murphioso family.

I am an idiot.

I have a master list of everyone in the game, and somewhere along the way I got my notation mixed up on which mafia family was which. It was pointed out to me after I made the hits in the first round, and I thought I fixed it. I was wrong.

After writing the last chapter, it was pointed out that Principal Skin-Trade was a Murphioso, *NOT* a Corbettini.

When it comes to the flavor text (and really, I hope you're enjoying those), it effects who would be killing who in the story, but as long as it's listed properly in the statistics that I repost from time to time, it's not a big issue as long as it's corrected.

In any case, I still feel like an idiot.

SO, TO RECAP....

GregMcDuck was killed by the Corbettinis.
Smilin'JackRoss was killed by the Murphiosos.
Principal Skin Trade was a member of the Murphiosos.

I have now triple checked my GM sheets to ensure they're accurate, and the game should continue without any further errors.

Mob hits in 5 minutes.

ChaosFromOrder was found dead at his home tonight, the victim of what appears to be sniper fire. Witnesses say he was called to the phone and upon answering, was shot through the window. A looping recording was heard over the line to be saying, "TRY GLOATING NOW!"

ChaosFromOrder has been killed by the Murphioso Family. He was a Citizen.

Another sad tale. TripeHoundRedux was the victim of a large explosion after starting his car outside the local movie theater. Tripe's spouse, who barely survived the ordeal, says that after Tripe turned on the car, unfamiliar music began to play on the stereo system.

Tripe's last words were, "Isn't that.... the theme to 'The Big Valley'? OH SH----" *boom*

Efforts are underway tonight to collect the last of Tripe's remains, scattered over the local theater. Considering Tripe's employment at Rifftrax, Tripe probably would have wanted it that way.

TripeHoundRedux has been killed by the Corbettini Family. He was a Citizen.

In spite of his rather rude accusations towards me, I haven't seen any compelling reason to suspect Conor.  He's broken from the pack once or twice.  Your average mafia rascal isn't likely to be someone who's sticking his neck out unnecessarily.  More likely he's going to be someone who lays low.  Someone who quietly hops on the bandwagon whenever it appears that the citizens have picked out a likely scapegoat.  Someone like Sideswipe.

You people are fools, fools I say!  I picked Conor because of his sketchy behavior having Torgospizza cross his name off for him.  I didnt join any bandwagon.  I started the Conor hunt in round 2, so there.  Im no Mafia, Im a hard working Rifftrax citizen looking to keep this place safe from the Mafia.

Jasimon1 was found floating in the office building's fountain face down, a picture of Crow stuffed halfway down her throat.

Investigators are searching for evidence of foul play. ;)

A Vigilante has killed jasimon1, who was a member of the Corbettini familiy.

NOTE: jasimon1's vote no longer counts this round.

Then again, jasimon voted for Principal who was a member of the other family, maybe they are trying to pick off the other family even if they should be working together.  Darn this Second Guess Thursday ;)  Nope,  I won't give in and change my vote. Though I must admit that Sideswipe's straight forward "your wrong" is oddly compelling.

Again, I have to remind everyone, NO, it is not better to kill the other mafia than another citizen.

1. The object of the game is for the mafia to kill the citizens. Even though they are in two separate groups, they win as one.

2. If you kill the other mafia off, that's one less potential kill every round, which favors the citizens.

I just want to make sure everyone understands the objectives of the game.

Don't get me wrong, I am happy if the mafia chooses to self-destruct itself, but it just seems like an odd strategy to use..I am still trying to figure out why jasimon would vote for Principal. But maybe that's normal for this type of thing, I don't know.

I mean it is better for us citizens if they turn on each other, which they wouldn't do unless they were stupid.

From: fisk@rifftrax.com
To: <employees list>

Subject: You Morons.
Body:

Based on your voting, my security unit ransacked the home of Sideswipe in an effort to take him out. After neutralizing him, we had the nauseous sight of finding a Mike Nelson shrine in his basement.

It had pink hearts everywhere.

On second thought, maybe this wasn't such a bad thing.

Note: Due to absenteeism, AmazingThor has been fired. Unfortunately, none of the mafias thought he was that good of a worker either, and he was not under their employ.

The Citizens have killed Sideswipe, who was a Citizen.
AmazingThor has been removed from the game for lack of participation. He was a Citizen.

On the other hand, I'm kind of an idiot.

Oh, well.  A toast to the corpse of our good friend Sideswipe!

Sometime early this morning Steve-O was called by an agency claiming to be from Mensa, the High IQ society. His keen deduction and logical skills had been lauded by colleagues and words of his deeds had spread to their ears. They wanted to award him membership in the exclusive organization, and was being asked to attend a ceremony.

A limo arrived, Steve-O got in, and the limo left.

The limo went around the block, and pulled back up in front of his home.

The body of Steve-O was dumped on his lawn.

The Corbettini Family has killed Steve-O, who was a Citizen.

The only good thing about being so popular is that I have evidence that can help prove to you all that I am not Mafia.  Jasimon was Mafia.  She voted to kill me two turns in a row.  The first time she played it all cool and said this:

I'll go with the majority so far, my vote is for Yoohooriffer.

The next round she led the charge on me and had the first vote against anyone:
My vote is for YooHooriffer, He should have been gone last round.

Alright please use this knowledge to change your votes.  I'm not Mafia and if we how to win it's important that I stay alive.  I know that 5 of you are Mafia and are doing your jobs trying to get the citizens to axe one of there own but the rest of you please think.  I am not Mafia.  And I beg for all of you who voted for me to change it.

My vote goes to Pak-man but not out of venegance but because of logic.  Pak-man set it up so that whatever happened to him the suspicion would go to me.
I still stand by my theory. If I end up disappeared at the end of the day, yoo know who to go after. :^)

If Pak-man didn't know he wasn't going to die than he wouldn't have posted these things.  He was practically asking for a death sentence by the mafia so that in would incriminate me.  But for some reason he lived through the night.  The Mafia isn't playing dumb.  They know that keeping Pak alive will make it so that he will contiune to accuse me.  I say that Pak-man knew he was in no danger and so foolishly opened his mouth in order to set a trap for me.  Pak and I would like to here your side.

I'm not Mafia.  I don't know who is Mafia but I know I'm not.  Due to this everyone who has voted for me is a suspect.  Pak-man has wanted to see me dead for two rounds just like jasimon did.  Until someone can prove or convince me otherwise, I will vote for Pak-man.  My votes are never set in stone and neither should yours.

Haha - I dunno, Steve-O (RIP) did have something when he said people who laid-low were hiding something, look at jasimon1.  But then poor Sideswipe .... man, logic makes you run in circles  ???

I vote Yoohoo - he keeps managing to evade the chopping block every time he's on the ballot.   Hmm.....  My thought is as well, that he said there are 5 mafia left, but I'm pretty sure no one told us how many would be in the game - so how would he know that number?

Really only the other mafia have real reasons not to vote for pyro. As opposed to the very silly reasons we have used so far, this information is quite obvious, so your reasons for ignoring it will be quite interesting.

Why not the person that you pointed out as possibly being Corbatinni and then who was the last to post before the hit went through?  You had JUST indicated doggans of being in the Mafia for not showing his face yet, and then there he was, and the vote went through.  Not to mention you threw out 2 other suspects of being in Corbatini and now all of a sudden you're throwing blame around again already.

I've had other suspicions, so now along with this new evidence I'm going for McCart.... erm, BathTub.  The fact you accused 3 others of being in that group not long before the vote went through and now me at random seems suspicious to me

No I wasn't ignoring them, and it was only 2, you and doggans, and I know it wasn't doggans. You quoted my comment to minnesota which was his first post after missing the last round.  And tempestjonny was covered in my comments on your retaliatory vote against JU.

Title: Re: MAFIA -- Game One Started

There was more than me and doggans on at the time of the hit, if we were.  Fisk's posted that the vote hadn't gone through last night and he didn't post on the subject till this morning.  How are you so sure he posted it as soon as it was sent?  And what does that being Minnesota's first post since the last round prove?  And how do you know that doggans didn't send in the hit?

I thought I posted my comment on johnny but I guess I forgot since i accidentally closed the window at one point....  But I changed my vote after 2 others commented on JU's suspicion of changing his vote without explanation.

Also the fact you said you didn't want AmandaGal dead could help your case cause it could shift blame from you.

Now you are just accusing me of being stupid, AmandaGal is the only one to vote for me, so I use a family hit on her, the most obviously incriminating move someone in the game could make?

Nice way to spin the rival hit though.

hi guys, sorry I missed that last round. way too much work for me to handle.

Sorry Mr fisk, I took a day off to visit the zoo.....you know how it is.

It does strike me as odd that both pyro and doggans replied right before the hit came in. (and bak but he was posting frequently)
So i'm voting for pyro and if he comes up as a mafia member doggans better look over his sholder.

I'm calling you stupid by saying you used your hit for vengence and then covering it up with no one noticing but possibly me?

But meh, say what you want about protesting too much, but look back in the game and see how much YoohooRiffer and others did.

Which reminds me, my vote's actually on YoohooRiffer since you're a lost cause it seems, though I can tell you're clearly up to something, when it comes down to it probably informant/vigilante though.  But YoohooRiffer's the closest I have to saving myself at this point since he's got the most votes after me and I'm clearly screwed at this point

Plus, I suspected him of wierd behavior two rounds ago. I think mafia members are more likely to try to blend in with the crowd. So one vote Tempestjonny.

screw it, i'm gunna change my vote.

yoohoo has been dodging the bullet for too long now. But i'm not gunna vote for him, i'm gunna vote for Keroppi20 as he keeps insisting voting for me, for bizzare reasons.

Quote
I suspected him of wierd behavior two rounds ago. I think mafia members are more likely to try to blend in with the crowd.

How can I be acting weird and laying low at the same time.
I've won a few games of mafia before and when I play mafia I keep very very quiet and never change votes (as that draws attention)

To tell you the truth a made a pact with yoohoo in the chat room in the first round that i would change my vote away from him then and for the rest of the game we would stay away from each other (voting wise). but since then i have this feeling he's a mafia, but couldn't vote for him, so if i vote for someone else, it will be a tie and yoohoo will be out because of past votes.

AKA i vote Keroppi20

By switching your vote at the last minute to stay with the majority.  You have voted with the majority every round, well, until now that is.  True, you MAY not be in the mafia but then again I still think you COULD be.  Again, I think the fact Johnny up and switch quite suddenly to you is a bit strange.  I feel like he may know something that the rest of us do not.  (oh and it's she)

It might have been a scene in any office. Your office. The dirty microwave heating up a cup of noodles. The less than dazzling array of coffee cups, stirring sticks, creams and sugars. The stack of coke cans six feet high. And, of course, the mexican standoff in the center of the break room.

There were shouts and demands being made. Workers began to gather towards the audible fray. Pyro and YooHooRiffer stood facing each other, guns drawn and intensely staring.

Security finally arrived. Fisk was nowhere to be seen. The confusion mounted. One security guard drew his gun, though unsure at who to point.

"Who started this?" He barked.

"HE DID!" both Pyro and YooHoo said, not looking away from their opponent.

Sweat drip from the guard's eyebrow as he tried to make sense of the situation. Another guard made a request into the comm. Chatter could be heard through their earpieces. The guard's eyes suddenly got big, and then he made a move.

He turned the gun towards YooHoo.

"Put the gun down, sir."
"What?!" But he's-"
"There's been a change in votes. Put the gun down."
"I'm NOT in the mafia! You need to-"
"PUT THE GUN DOWN NOW!"
"NO!"

YooHoo's final move was a fatal one- seeing no other way out, he turned his gun on the guard. It was a mistake. Guns blared, people ran, and somewhere in the mix the cup of noodles finally finished its cooking with a resonating "Ding!"

As the gunfire stopped, the guard stood over YooHoo and others gathered around. YooHoo's eyes were large as dinner plates, gazing upward at him. He exhaled a bit and raised a hand up to the guard's head, pulling him down towards him.

"Don't let it end.... this way...."

...it was YooHoo's final words.

Due to a tiebreaker count, the Citizens have killed YooHooRiffer. He was a Vigilante.

Keroppi20 was found dead after reportedly following a suspected mafia member into a sporting goods store.

The use of a hockey mask and a bowling pin to commit the deed (don't ask how, it's too gruesome) leaves no doubt that this was the work of the Corbettinis.

Yet he was an informant and the one killed by the vigilante that round was tempestjohnny even though it was a dead heat between me and yoohooriffer

edit - not to mention his biggest case was about how I was on when the hit was made, though the next time I hadn't been on for hours when that family's hit was made and there's only one left

Post by: Wilson Fisk on September 02, 2007, 11:56:15 PM
Pyro was dead.

The rest of the company stood over him, covered in blood and satisfied with the work they had done. It was about the dumbest thing he could have done, coming back to the office after the authorities had released him. His earnest testimony about the events in the break room were more than enough to convince the police that he hadn't done anything wrong. A simple mix-up. A close vote. Emotions running high, and a Vigilante desperate to stay alive by any means neccessary.

His story would not work here in the office.

The elevator doors had opened up and a pair of hands grabbed him before he could even look up. He never stood a chance at defending himself, let alone an opportunity to explain the situation. It's not like he had any allies left that would be dumb enough to step in between him and the mob. They were all dead too. And now, he had joined them.

The last thing pyro ever saw was ESPN2, as it came towards him at the speed of gravity in the form of a TV dropped on his head. Several things went through pyro's mind at that last instant of existence: His placement in life compared to those in the baseball game being recapped. How unfair life was that fate would deal him a crummy upbringing leading to a life of crime, and now to this place here. And of course, the last thing to go through pyro's mind: The picture tube.

The citizens did not search his pockets for evidence or scramble to his desk to find the proof they needed of his mob involvement. Bathtub's reasoning, even moreso in death, was truth. Fact. Righteousness. This one was for him, and there was no question to his guilt. The Corbettinis were dead, and the Murphiosos were next.

Bettertomorrowamy rolled up his sleeves and surveyed the room of satisfied citizens. "I'll say this much... to the two remaining Murphiosos in the room, you better watch out, cause we're going to ROLL now."

It was at that moment that fate dealt a funny quirk to the post-mortem celebration. A spark from the TV, still plugged in, caused pyro's body to spasm, and to short out the electric. The lights were doused in a tidal wave of darkness, and the room was black.

Two noises were heard. The first was bettertomorrowamy, who exclaimed, "Son of a b--"

and the second was the nameless gun, blowing a hole in his skull.

The Citizens have killed pyro, who was the remaining member of the Corbettini family.
The Murphiosos have killed bettertomorrowamy, who was a Citizen.

Suddenly, the planchette jumps to the letter P, wildly, as though moving of its own accord.  But of course it can't be... can't be... can it?

It jumps to the M, dragging two sets of fingers with it.  Then, it makes a slow, laborious circle around the periphery of the Ouija board, returning again the M.  There it remains.

"What... the fuck... is 'PMM' supposed to mean?" says Sabrina.

"I told you this 'mystical' slab of cardboard was a bunch of crap, didn't I?" says Jenny.  "Let's go call boys and emasculate them verbally."  They hurl the board into the corner and stumble, giggling, toward Sabrina's room.

Moments later, the planchette leaps unbidden from the coffee table onto the board, neatly coming to rest on the E.

Its flat, plastic eye stares blindly into the empty room.

With as few people in the game as we have currently, I will make a slight addendum to our round durations in order to speed things along, as we have only a few people left and many *many* people waiting for Game 2.

The round still lasts 24 hours, except in the case of everyone casting their votes. If every remaining citizen has made their vote, I shall deem the round over and move on to the mob hits. This is basically as before without the task of asking everyone if they have any intention of changing.

Therefore: pay close attention to the voting and say what you need to if you feel it will save your head, but do it *early*. If everyone gets their vote in, you might be caught with your pants down.

This rule addendum will be called the "Lightning Round Mode" and will take effect upon having 10 players or less remaining in the game. NOTE: Having 11 players at the start of a round and someone getting killed (Vigilante) in the middle of voting will *NOT* cause Lightning Round to start at that exact moment. Lightning round will instead begin at the next citizen vote.

I have added this rule to the first post of the thread for review in the future.

The absence was just too much to not notice. To be this close to victory... to have one mafia dead and the other bleeding, and you don't show up? Surely something was rotten in Circle Pines. The vote was a quick one, and overwhelming.

Fisk looked around the room after exiting his office. After not finding his target, he inquisitively looked to whoever was nearby. The question didn't need to be asked.

"We don't know where he is."

Fisk sighed and took a cell phone out of his pocket, and pressed a few buttons in sequence. A few seconds later, a large explosion suddenly burst from the horizon a few miles away. Employees ran to follow the sound and see the sights out the window.

"What was that?"
"I think that was... Conor's House."
"Oh."

One employee dared to look back at Fisk, who silently watched the cloud of smoke rise above the adjacent buildings.

"You don't have *all* of our homes wired like that, do you?"
Fisk stared at the employee for a moment before returning to his office.

"...Do you?"
The door closed and the employee wondered if IT would catch him surfing monster.com.

Okay. After this round, we citizens are pretty much guaranteed to be outnumbered, particularly if we kill one of our own before the mafia kills another of us.

So, no more voting on a whim, no more hopping on bandwagons without strong evidence. The mafia is likely to gang up on one of us and hope the rest follow suit.

Who should we turn on, and why? Discuss.

well the evidence of Pak-man is clearly there, he's always one of the last ones to vote, he's been incriminated by bathtub, and he rarely strays from the group. its also possible that he's decided not to wack me intentionally ... predicting me getting mobbed by the citizens. Look we've been wrong a zillian damn times, and yes I was fooled into many of those mobs too... but this is the most important round for the reasons that doggans said above. I believe that Pak is in the mob and tricking all of us again, lets finally turn the tables on him.

I vote Pak-man
Title: Re: MAFIA -- Game One Started
Post by: Dim of the Yard on September 04, 2007, 04:50:13 PM
Dim of the Yard looked up to the large office building eagerly, a smile on her face.  This was it.  This could possibly be her biggest break yet.

She had been scouring the Internet the previous week, searching through the website of the local newspaper for anything interesting.  Her first stop were the obituaries.  She was a bit morbid and wanted to see if there was anybody that she knew on the list.  She glanced briefly at the pictures, wondering why there were suddenly so many people dying when they weren't old and wrinkly.  She shrugged her shoulders and clicked over to the comics section.  If she had only glanced at a handful of the names....

After giggling over Get Fuzzy and Zits, she headed over to the job listings.  She was dirt poor, after all, and nothing saying that she couldn't have a small job just outside of college, right?

That's where we find her now.  Dim strode into the office building, trying to disguise her nerves with a cute little smile and a nice little, professional-looking outfit.  She walked up to the front desk, where a secretary of sorts was doing some websurfing of her own.  Dim's smile faded as she stood in front of the desk for a number of minutes without the secretary looking up for a moment.  By the time she was noticed, she was only half-smile and had begun to sweat bullets.

"... Can I help you?" she asked impatiently, turning away from the computer screen.

Dim bit her lip, then took a deep breath and said, "HellomynameisDimoftheYardandIfoundyouradvertinthepaperandIwanttogiveyoumyresume."  She put a manilla envelope on the counter.

"... How long were you there?" asked the secretary, giving Dim an odd look and taking the envelope.  What struck Dim as odd was how she carefully lifted the envelope with only three fingers, only touching its corner and being very careful to lay it down on the desk next to her so it didn't bend.

Dim twiddled her thumbs.  Her heart was pounding by now.  "Fi-five or ten minutes.  But I didn't want to disturb you.  You just looked like you were having so much fun on... whatever it is you were doing...."

The secretary wrinkled her nose.  Dim's heart sank.  "Right.  We are going through quite a bit at the office right now, so we won't have too much time to really go over your resume until much later."

"Oh, that's all right," said Dim quickly.  "Just... uhh... just PM me when everything blows over.  Assuming, of course, you're interested in--"

The power died.  Dim was beside herself with anxiety.  Was this her fault?  Did she step on something accidentally and make all of the power die in the building?  Oh, of all the days to be a klutz, she had to choose the day when she was submitting a job application?  She knew she should have sent it in electronically, instead!  Things were just getting worse and worse for her, weren't they?  She knew she should have just stayed back on campus and focused on her schoolwork!

The secretary just groaned.  "We've been getting so many brown-outs, it' ridiculous," griped the secretary to herself.  "Can't believe it."

Dim blinked and looked up at the secretary.  "I'm, uhh... I'm going to take off now...."  She stepped away from the desk.  "It's been a pleasure.  Hope to get some sort of answer.  PM me?  Umm... take care."

The secretary stopped listening to Dim quite a while ago, lost in her own annoyance.  She continued to complain to herself, turning off her computer and unplugging it.  If it wasn't the power going out, it was the nice copier suddenly out of commission, or it was the number of dead bodies showing up, or it was having to put out all of those new job applications on the Internet, or it was working on a job application and losing it during a power outage, just like that nth job description that she was typing up before the kid disturbed her and the power went kaput.  Thank God for AutoSave, she said, drumming her fingers on the desk and waiting for the power to come back.  Thank God for AutoSave.

Heh, well, I suppose if I guess the wrong person, not only do I doom us all, but I'll never convince the rest of you that I'm not mafia. But, hey, no pressure, right? :P

BathTub has indeed listed Pak-Man among possible subjects, once. However, he has repeatedly dropped not-so-subtle hints about Minnesota. In fact, Minnesota has always seemed adamant about throwing suspicion to Pak-Man than anyone else.

So, after much deliberation, I choose Minnesota.

And if I screwed this up, let me just say that it's been an honor hunting mafia with you all.

Minnesota should be thankful the TV had already been dropped on someone else's head, because the employees were searching for it as they threw him to the ground in a frenzy. This one took awhile, and rightfully so. They wanted a confession. They'd gone through too many people and too much pain to be wrong now. So if they didn't get one honestly, they'd beat it out of him. It was the kind of ass backwards logic you'd expect from a group of stressed out survivors who had watched the majority of their group go the way of the graveyard.

Of course, it's hard to talk when someone is insisting on standing on your face with one foot while stomping on you with the other. But somehow he finally got a word out.

"IM TELLING YOU, IM NOT IN THE MAFIA!"

There was a pause, and an employee leaned in close.

"Every time you protest, I'm going to break a finger." Minnesota's eyes got wide.
"Well, what chance does THAT give me? Should I just say 'Hey, I am Mafia' then? Is that what you want?"

"Did you hear him? HE CONFESSED!" someone squealed.

The beatings continued at a more fervent pace. And then, the finale to make Pete Townsend proud... gathering up a good bit of steam, the entire crew ran towards the window, Minnesota on top, until they chucked him out the office window 14 floors to his death.

It would be a tough job explaining all those footprints and superficial wounds that he received before the fall, but everyone agreed it was more than worth it.

The Citizens have killed Minnesota, who was a member of the Murphioso family.

We are waiting on the mob hit before moving on to the citizens vote. The citizens have the opportunity to win the game for the first time since round 4 (which was low odds, but still possible).

Can they do it? STAY TUNED!

Minnesota fell 14 stories.... and landed on doggans.

Doggans could not be reached for comment at this time, as he is dead.

The Murphioso Family has killed doggans, who was a Citizen.

There were only two mobsters left.  Two people voted for Pak Man.  One was Minnesota.  One was Hebs.  I vote Hebs.

That's some sound reasoning. We all  know I'm nor mafia or I wouldn't have campaigned for a teammate's death...
Well I have mafia target written all over me now... Horse-head in my bed, Here I come. :^)

Well either way, I vote Hebs.

Well, I was going to vote for doggans, but guess I can't do that now.  My logic was he waited so long he must've been deciding whether or not to go against the family.  But oh well.  I think at this stage in the game, it's unwise for mafia to stick together because of exactly what is happening now.

I vote Pak-man for being the only one in this game who is consistantly getting votes and then mysteriously living.

Ortega had Hebs with a gun at the back of her head, execution style. Johnny and Pak-Man watched, not sure whether to leave the room or sit and stare.

Fisk came in the door.

"What the hell is going on here?"
"We found the last mafia member, sir. It's Hebs." Hebs attempted to turn her head to look at her accuser, but Ortega swatted her in the head with the tip of his pistol.
"Ow! Watch it, taco, or you're gonna have that gun shoved so far up your--"
"WHOA, did not need to hear that." Pak-Man gagged at the mental image.
"Oh, you're standing around waiting to watch me get my brains splattered on the floor, and *that* grosses you out."

Fisk examined the situation.

"Ortega, put the gun away."
"WHAT?!"
"You heard me. Hebs, stand up." She did as she was told, not feeling in a position to bargain.
"You outlasted almost my entire company without anyone really suspecting you. We could use someone like you."
"I don't work for you."
"I'll give you double what you'd get for working for the Murphiosos."
"I'm listening."
"Come into my office, let's talk."
Ortega's face was a twisted fit of rage as his supreme catch walked towards his boss, and turned her face to make a distorded nyah-nyah back at the three remaining citizens. She walked in the door and Fisk following behind. The door was shut.

And then...

BLAM. BLAM.

Fisk walked out, a gun in his hand.

"Told you I'd give her double what she'd get if she worked for the Murphiosos."

The Citizens have killed Hebs, who was the remaining Mafia member.

Congratulations to Ortega, Pak-Man, and Johnny Unusual for winning the opening round of Mafia! Each wins a free Rifftrax and a chance to compete in a future Championship Mafia event.

The next game will begin in a day or two, I need a short break to recuperate and get my bearings. Thanks to everyone for playing along. Stay tuned for signups for GAME TWO!

Announcing MVP's of Game One!

Best Citizen - Johnny Unusual
Only a single vote counted against him, and voted for Mafia members for 5 consecutive rounds (the five last rounds, when it really counts! All the while, Johnny kept his head down and played the game in fine fashion. Well done.

Best Informant/Vigilante - BathTub
Used his deductive reasoning to guess mafia members for the first 2 rounds, and then figure out a few more before all was said and done. If Bath had kept a lower profile, he might have helped end this one a lot earlier.

Best Mafia Member - Hebs Never had a single vote against her until the final round. Was guessed by an informant earlier on in the game, but had so little suspicion cast upon her that an informant would have a very hard time steering the vote in her direction. Proof that a Vigilante is much more dangerous than an Informant!

Best Play of the Game - Tempestjonny's vote against his own mafia member (pyro) before switching at the end of the round to send YooHooRiffer to his grave. I suspect Tempest would have kept his vote as well if pyro wasn't on the chopping block at the time.

Worst Play of the Game - Tie between YooHooRiffer... and Tempestjonny.

YooHooRiffer, on day *one*, not only rocked the boat enough with his "survival list" to attract attention to himself, he also announced he was a vigilante in the chat room with other mafia members present in an effort to not be killed. This is also almost a surefire way to die before the 2nd citizen round starts. YooHoo was extremely lucky not to have mafia members present when it went down.

The 2nd entry goes to Tempestjonny making an alliance with YooHoo... again, with witnesses present! BathTub watched the events transpired and realized quickly that something was rotten in Denmark.

Congrats to all the MVP's.

Yay I got three MVP's......i really enjoyed that game everybody and i'd like to say thanks to all who played for making it such a fun game. voting for pyro at the time was good as he was going down, But then the votes changed and my move on paper was very dumb.

But big thanks for Chris Hanl for running the game and reminding me why messageboards kick ass. thanks for a great game everybody.

can i sign up for the next yet :D

I blame my general ineptitude for my survival. :^) My actions and accusations were shaky as a citizen (kept the mob off me) and too stupid to convince the citizens I was in the mob. :^) I shall carry my stupidity into the next round! :^)
