Title: Mary McDonnell in the show, and no BSG references?, what the frak? ;)
Post by: Hamdingers on August 14, 2007, 08:10:00 PM
I was actually dissapointed that there were no President Rosalyn references in this one, seems like it'd be prime fodder for references and riffs

otherwise, an excellint Rifftrax, one of the frakkin' best, right up there with LOTR :)

Not everyone has watched the new BSG.   Maybe Mike & Co. have no interest.

Uuuuuuummmmmmm..... Hmmmm....AH!

Okay, everybody- They're talking about Battle Star Galactica, I think.

Didn't Space Mutiny establish that the guys just don't do Battlestar Galactica references? ;)  Anyway, if there's any type of Riff that's a complete non-joke, it's "Hey, that person was so-and-so in a different movie" references.

She really wasn't in many scenes, although I would have liked to hear one joke.  No big deal though.

As opposed to the Legend discs where Mike would spend a minute or more comparing NOTLD to The Shakiest Gun In the West and then go "Never mind".....

I mean, WTF?

Along similar lines, Im surprised there was only one Data joke during Brent Spiner's screentime.

True, those aren't particularly funny either. Like Bill thinking Star Trek VI was a remake of The Big Valley. Or like in Codename: Diamondhead where they say "Hey, it's Lovejoy!" virtually every time Ian McShane's onscreen? Repetition doesn't always make things funny.

Didn't stop them from mentioning "Stands With A Fist"!   (Dances with Wolves)

That movie is part of the "everyday culture".  BSG is a cult favorite.

It's also on The Sci-Fi Channel.  Maybe they finally realized what a raw deal they really got over there and don't want to promote them.

That didn't exactly stop them making references to The Fly every time Goldblum was on screen for the first half hour.

Wasn't she in Dances With Wolves as well playing Kevin Costner's love interest?

I haven't purchased this Riff Trax yet, and I really would love to but I don't own a copy of Independance Day, but were there and Dances with Wolves jabs at all in there?

I am still a little puzzled why they didnt make any BSG references in Space Mutiny.  It has probably been answered somewhere on this vast internet, I just havent built up the motivation to look.

Well, she's the presidents wife in this movie, she's the president in BSG.  There's a bit more of an opening for a joke looking at it that way.

Well there was certainly at least one reference, not necessarily a jab though.

Yeah, lousy cult tv shows, who needs 'em.  I saw this one awhile back that had a guy trapped on a satellite with robots and they were watching these old bad movies.  It was real freaking weird.

The Sci-FI Channel theory is a possibility, or just that Mike and/or someone else doesn't like the show, or maybe it just didn't occur to them, but it's not that it's just a "cult" thing.  You really think these guys are going to ignore a joke because a few people listening might not get it right away?

Only one response to that.

Gah! Dont ever post that again! Once you've seen the video you will never be able to get it out of your head.

Shoot, it's been stuck in my head since I heard Mike recite it on his podcast.

A late reply...

That's not actually the case. While the guys may not have made riffs about the actual BG, they have done a couple of riffs referring to an event where a fan of the show drove his motorcycle off a bridge because the original Battlestar Galactica got cancelled.

Damn.  Well I love the new BSG...and next year is their final season...good thing I don't have a motorcycle.

Dang, here I am innocently reading and someone had to go a put that darn shnappi song into my head... <kirk voice>SHNAAAAAAAPPIIII</kirk voice>

Been waiting for ID4 to come out on in .riff format but couldn't wait any longer, finally watched it last night, I'm not surprised at the lack of a BSG reference, if you listen to the "data" reference they did that so quietly it seemed like they were embarrassed by it.

Also "stands with fist" is a much better joke than "president of the fleet/former colonies/whatever they call themselves in the fleet".

Later,
 Marty
