Title: The 2019 NFL Season thread
Post by: RVR II on March 08, 2019, 02:26:56 AM
Wanted to wait till March 13 when the New League Year and Free Agency begins but things are happening too quickly to wait..
BREAKING: The Buffalo Bills just traded for Steelers WR Antonio Brown! :o
https://247sports.com/nfl/buffalo-bills/Article/Antonio-Brown-trade-Buffalo-Bills--129102436/
But will he be too toxic a player for the team? Guess we'll see..

And Case Keenam will be traded from the Broncos to the Skins for only a 6th round pickas Joe Flaco was traded to the Broncos from the Ravens earlier..
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001021456/article/broncos-agree-to-trade-qb-case-keenum-to-redskins

And Nick Foles is expected to sign a multiyear contract with the Jaguars after free agency begins March 13 :o
https://www.sbnation.com/2019/3/5/18250601/nick-foles-jacksonville-jaguars-signing-free-agency-2019-offseason

Looks like another interesting season ahead 8)

The Bills neared a trade last night for WR Antonio Brown, who would not commit to showing up in Buffalo. The organization did speak with agent Drew Rosenhaus. This morning, Buffalo says they are out, amid uncertainty. Steelers are back to square one again.
That's good then cause we don't need a drama-queen on the team ::)

So I guess the Giants are just giving up and going after draft picks now, what a mess of a team.  Does that ever work in the NFL?

Football is back but I didn't watch the Hall of Fame game last night due to going to work early this morning.. I'll try to see some of the preseason games, maybe the Bills @ Panthers in week 2 of the preseason :o

Watched the first half of the Panthers preseason game then had to go to bed for work. It's good to have football back.
The Bills come to town next Friday for week 2 and I'll be sure to watch that whole game 8)

Can't really get into Football in the pre-season, the games are so bad, will get into it once the season starts.  Just hope Wentz is back to full health and stays that way this season, because our backup QB just got injured...
Title: Re: The 2019 NFL Season thread
Post by: wihogfan on August 12, 2019, 07:13:37 AM
I just can't get excited about or even watch pre-season football. It's great that it signals a new season starting soon, but I just can't bring myself to care about games that don't count and don't involve what the teams will like like when the regular season begins.
Title: Re: The 2019 NFL Season thread

Yeah, my Chiefs are going to be here for the final preseason game. Thought briefly about going, but just can't see spending close to regular season prices to see starters only play probably one quarter at most.

Same here.
The local Bills Backers group in the neighboring town was charging some ridiculous price for a party package ($95 I think it was) at their place and it didn't even include going to the Panthers stadium for the game. Yeah I'll just stay home and watch it on my 75 inch in my living room ;D

Panthers aren't showing much in the pre season and now Cam Newton hurt his foot so already fans aren't sure what to make of the upcoming season..

But my Bills are showing some pretty good strength overall going 3-0 so far :o

So Andrew Luck decides to retire tonight at the end of the Colts 3rd preseason game  ???
I guess the timing of this has to be the big question as they now have to figure out who their new starting QB will be  :-\
Title: Re: The 2019 NFL Season thread
Post by: wihogfan on August 27, 2019, 07:58:32 AM
Still can't fathom watching a pre-season game, but starting to get excited about the season.
Read one of those dumb articles where they rank all the teams that had the Colts as #3. Amazing how important the QB position is in NFL as I'm sure the same ranking revised now would have them around 20 spots lower. Can't fault Luck at all for the reasons he's leaving, but timing is strange.
Title: Re: The 2019 NFL Season thread
Post by: RVR II on August 27, 2019, 08:27:39 AM
I can understand his reasoning for his retiring but yeah the timing of this has just rubbed a lot of fans the wrong way.. Sounds like the Colts already had a plan in place with their backup QB as the starter so it'll be interesting to see how their season goes :-\

The Bills pull out an amazing victory over the Jets despite 4 turnovers in the first half and go on to score 17 unanswered points to win 17-16 on the road!

But Cam Newton is back to being unpredictable overthrowing and making blunders on offense resulting in their loss to the Rams 30-27 at home  :grr:
Title: Re: The 2019 NFL Season thread
Post by: MartyS (Gromit) on September 08, 2019, 01:36:52 PM
Eagles defense was asleep for the first half, offense wasn't much better.

But both woke up in the 2nd half and dominated to win.

Carson looked like his old self, magically popping out of what looked like sacks and getting the ball down the field.

So nice to have Desean Jackson back, he had a huge game.  Getting rid of him was one of the many huge blunders by Chip Kelly.

If Cam keeps playing like he did today I think he'll get benched sooner than later..
The new owner has made it clear that all positions, players and coaching staff will be evaluated and changes made as necessary.

Eagles were fumble happy in the first half.

Also a horrible no call during a kickoff return, guy had his helmet ripped off by the face mask and no call?  He was carrying the ball, how could no official be watching him?

Bills dominated the first 1/2 and then let the Bengals come back with 17 unanswered points before the Bills got it back together with a TD and then stopped the Bengals final drive with a critical interception with 12 seconds left in the game to win 21-17 and go to 3-0
 :highfive:
The real test comes next week when the Patriots come to Bills country :o

Eagles didn't do much better in the 2nd half, still way too many mistakes.  A couple fewer mistakes and they could have won.

I've never seen a game with 3 offensive pass interference calls, let alone all against the Eagles, one of them might have been justified but the other 2 there was barely any contact.  If the "pushing off" doesn't make the other guy move an inch it sure wouldn't have stopped him from catching a ball.

Week 4 is here and my 3-0 Bills host the 3-0 Patriots in Buffalo. The game looks to be televised nationally on CBS so that's pretty awesome :o
I think they actually have a chance at beating the Patriots today!
This will be the true test to see if my Bills really do have a playoff caliber team..

Meanwhile the Panthers play the Texans in Houston so we'll see if we can go to 2-2 with backup Kyle Allen as QB again..

Bills hold their ground but fall 16-10 in a very tough fought game..
Too many mistakes from Josh Allen and after a major hit to his head the backup Barkley tried to get a game winning drive going only to fall short  :-[

Jets should have been shut out but Eagles muffed a punt and gave the Jets the ball in the red zone.

Officiating all year terrible so far. Don't like the addional replays for pass interference. Going to get to the point where everything is subject to replay and if you look hard enough you can find a penalty on almost every play.
Packers exceeding expectations (and yeah, bad call at the end of the game helped them get the win, but there were numerous bad calls before that).
Chiefs sucking last couple of games. Defense horrendous and unlike last year offense not dominating enough to make io for it.

Most of the time during instant replay you can see a hold somewhere on screen, if they went nuts with replay there would be holding calls every single play...

The messed up thing about the pass interference challenges is that they have been extremely inconsistent.  To the point where last weeks Eagles game there was one that even the announcers said Doug should throw the red flag but with overturns being so inconsistent he didn't want to waste a time out.

It’s been a long time since the Buffalo Bills were flexed into a nationally televised game. They haven’t been good enough to warrant it and when they were making their playoff run in the 2017 season, they were down the list.
The Bills vs. Patriots is now a lock to be a Week 16 Saturday game. The Bills and Patriots will be in the thick of the playoff race by Week 8.
So the Bills will likely be moved to Saturday and could get the primetime slot that night.  :o

And Chiefs defense looked dominating last night...but it was against the Broncos.
Mahomes out at least 3 games with a dislocated knee. Will be happy if they even win 1 game while he's out.
Mahomes coming off his MVP season has meant all but 1 Chiefs game has been on TV here so far this year. Guessing that won't be the case with him out.

Rogers has his first perfect QB rating game in a route of the Raiders, so Packers 5 and 1 as well.
Still think that record is inflated due to quality of competition so far- offense has definitely improved over week 1 but don't think deffense is as good as their stats show.
I do expect them to blow out the Mahomes-less Chiefs next Sunday night.

Chiefs didn't get blown out but still lost to the Packers.
Backup QB for Chiefs played well. Think there were a couple of 4th downs in the 4th quarter where Reid should have given backup QB a chance that he would have given Mahomes.

Week 9 is here so we'll see if both the Bills and Panthers can recover from last week..

Meanwhile, the Panthers may have a decision to make with Cam Newton..
Per Ian Rapoport
Quote
Cam Newton out several more weeks, weighing options

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton will use the weekend to consider his options on how to proceed with his plan for recovery following a visit to noted foot and ankle expert Dr. Robert Anderson in Green Bay.

While Newton has been frustrated with how long his Lisfranc injury is taking to heal, surgery was not recommended and is not currently in the plans, sources say. The hope is that more rest will allow the injury to heal without having a procedure that would knock him out months.

While there is no timetable for recovery, Newton is expected to be sidelined several weeks and potentially more. As the Panthers enter Week 9 -- with Kyle Allen starting against the Titans on Sunday -- time is running out for the former league MVP.

That brings Newton to his decision, one that he's weighing after returning home from seeing Anderson, the former assistant team physician.

Being placed on Injured Reserve is on the table for Newton, sources say.

The reason is simply the timing. If he's out more than a month and heals perfectly during that time, is a December return to the field realistic? Maybe not.

Despite being injured in Week 2, Newton still has not healed enough to be able to practice with his teammates. At most, he's worked off to the side doing rehab.

"He's going up and probably seeing one of the best foot doctors," head coach Ron Rivera said Friday before the visit, "and whatever we get from the doctor, I think will probably really impact the decisions going forward."

On Monday, Newton, those close to him, and the Panthers will decide his next move.

da bears are falling apart...  First half is almost over and the Eagles have 140 yards and the Bears have -3...   Eagles only have 12 points because they got all those yards 4 or 5 at a time.

Bears finally got a first down in the last minute of the first half, but that was it, Eagles up 12 zip.

Eagles went up 19 nothing and then went to sleep for about 15 minutes, almost let da bears take the lead, but a nice long drive to eat up the last 8 minutes sealed it.

KC won on a last second field goal. Backup QB had another good game. If Vikings' kicker hadn't missed both an extra point and a field goal, the Vikings might have won.

Packers' offense having a potential record breaking bad game. Had a total of 51 yards in the first half. Not looking much better halfway through the 3rd quarter. Defense has held Chargers to nothing but field goals so far, but Packers 0, Chargers 12. Looking like that may be all the Chargers need.

The bye week for the Eagles didn't see injured players getting more healthy, instead several are probably done for the season and new players have been brought in.  So the Eagles as a team got healthier during the bye, questionable if they got better as a team.

Patriots are in Philly for the 4:25 game this afternoon.

Packers bye week and Chiefs don't play until Monday night (and then buy week next week).

So Kaepernick apparently doesn't really want to play despite all his grievances and lawsuit. Yeah, NFL motives behind having a workout for him with less than a week's notice are suspect, but they were able to get over 2/3s of the teams to send a scout. Really hope the Dolphins offer him a contract (what do they really have to lose) which I think he would come up with some excuse not to accept.

Well, Eagles defense played great, even better than the score suggests because they were on the field most of the time the last 3 quarters.

Offense came out strong in the first quarter but then couldn't do anything the next 3 quarters.  Of course it's hard to do anything when you have no wide receivers and no running backs, and half the offensive line goes out with injuries.

Buffalo Bills playoff picture is pretty clear: Just win once and they're in
Dec. 8, 2019 | Updated 10:45 a.m. ET Dec. 9, 2019

ORCHARD PARK – All the Buffalo Bills needed to do Sunday afternoon was take care of their own business against Baltimore, and they would have been celebrating their entrance into the NFL playoffs Sunday night.

Four things needed to occur for the Bills to earn their second postseason berth in the last 20 years, but second in the three years that Sean McDermott has been the head coach.

Three of the four dominoes tumbled just right, the exception being Buffalo’s 24-17 loss to the Ravens at New Era Field.

Houston lost to Denver, Oakland lost to Tennessee, and Indianapolis lost to Tampa Bay. It would have been the perfect storm for Buffalo, that is until Marcus Peters broke up Josh Allen’s fourth-down pass over the middle from the Ravens 16 with 1:03 left to play to secure Baltimore’s victory which, by the way, enabled it to clinch its own playoff berth.

Although they let a chance slip away, all the Bills need to do is win one of their last three games to clinch a berth. Cut and dried.

Buffalo continues to hold the first AFC wild-card spot with its 9-4 record, followed closely by the Pittsburgh Steelers who beat Arizona Sunday. Also 8-5 are the Titans and Texans who are now tied atop the AFC South.

Should the Bills go into Pittsburgh Sunday night and win on national TV, they’re in. If not, they have another chance on Saturday, Dec. 21 at New England. If they lose again, they would carry a three-game losing streak into the season finale at home against the Jets. Not ideal, but hope would still abound.

Whether they would need to win that game remains unknown at this point because other teams could stumble on the way to the finish line and nine wins might be good enough.

The Steelers host the Bills but then close on the road at the Jets and Ravens. A Pittsburgh sweep is not out of the question, though, because by the time it plays Baltimore, the Ravens could have the No. 1 overall seed locked up and might rest some starters.

The Titans and Texans have two enormous showdowns in the final three weeks that will decide who wins the AFC South. In between in Week 16, the Titans host New Orleans while the Texans are at Tampa Bay.

All that said, the only thing that matters is Buffalo holds its own destiny in its hands, and one more win gets the job done.

Buffalo Bills playoff picture is pretty clear: Just win once and they're in

Pretty impressive after so many years :o

It's do or die time for the Eagles, beat the Giants and they get a home playoff game, if they lose then it depends on the Redskins beating the Cowboys.

WTF, Fox cut away from the Eagles win to show Dallas taking a knee and then spent minutes showing the end of that game.  So we didn't get to see any of the Eagles celebrating winning the NFC East.

Looks bad for next week, 2 more good players down, who the heck is going to be on the field next week against either San Fransisco or the seahags.

Eagles host the seahags on Sunday at 4:40.

Looks like we might not have our best tight end, or best running back, and our best wide receiver for next week.  Beating the Giants without those guys was one thing, post season without them is another.

Didn't think there was a chance my Chiefs would end up with the #2 seed but thanks to the Dolphins they did
Packers won to get a #2 seed as well, but looked terrible doing it. If they play like they've played at times I can see them maybe winning 1 playoff game, but I don't see them putting back-to-back games together to make it to the Super Bowl.

Radio Shack is still in business? One near my house closed 3 or 4 years ago. Both the Redskins and the Cowboys have owners who are too involved making decisions that should be left to football professionals. I could see McCarthy suceeding for a few years in Dallas just because they're not totally terrible, but don't see anyone suceeding in Washington.

I don't know much about the Skins owner but Ron Rivera knows how to build a family of players and coach them but Jerry Jones is too much of a control freak and I can see him contradicting McCarthy creating another rift like he did with Jimmy Johnson

I think pretty highly of Ron Rivera- would probably even want him as a coach over McCarty- but Dan Snyder (Redskins owner) is too impatient. Not saying his decision making is worse then Jerry Jones, only that Jones will make decisions and live with those decisions where as Snyder wants eveything to work right away and is more likely to make changes (both coaching and player changes) too quickly.

Sadly, I think this was Rogers last chance to make it to another Super Bowl. Despite the zpackers record looking good this year, I don't think this team was really any better than the team was the last 2 years when they didn't make the playoffs. They just had some breaks fall their way this year that didn't fall their way the last 2 years.

As excited as I am that the Chiefs are in the Super Bowl, I'm still going to do my best to avoid all of the hype leading up to the game. The "this player is such a great human being" stuff gets old really quick...especially when those stories are done on players that are in great players but not in fact good people.

The end of an era.

Eli Manning calls it a career after 16 seasons with the New York Giants :(

Patriots want Brady to decide whether he's going to re-sign with the Patriots or pursue free agency by the start of free agency in the middle of March. Here's hoping he pulls a Favre- not giving an answer, pissing off the fanbase, and then goes and plays for the Jets. (Patriots don't have a Aaron Rogers on the bench and the Jets are the Jets, so Brady can screw the Patriots and himself).

Pretty much all of our veteran star players are gone from the Panthers now :-[

I'll be watching the Super Bowl at my parents place tonight so I might not be posting much here during the game but hope KC can pull out the victory after their 50 year drought  :o

It really looked like Mahomes was going to be the one to let the pressure get to him but then it switched to Garoppolo.

Happy for Andy to finally get a Superbowl win.

With 7 minutes left was not feeling good. But 10 points to this team ended up being no big deal.
Still hard for me to believe that the Chiefs have won a Super Bowl after many years of bad coaches and mediocrity.

My parents had one of those pools going where you could guess the score after each quarter by buying squares and I had the score for a short time in the first quarter.. My mom never had a winning score but my dad had it for most of the game..
We all decided to roll our winnings over to the final score and with that final KC TD my younger brother won the entire pot which totaled over $80!
Had a lot of fun playing that during the big game :D :D
