Title: What Creepy things have we learned?
Post by: CJones on September 29, 2018, 12:23:37 PM
It's 1949. Spider bombs are the next big thing in weaponry. Cause nobody's invented the grenade, or land mine, or timed explosives or the freakin' A-Bomb yet. Oh wait, they have.

You can absolutely survive multiple car and/or plane crashes. Even if you drive off a cliff, or nosedive straight into the ground.

You can't cut together a 4 hour long serial to 73 minutes and expect it to make any sense.

Despite Zorka being able to make anything he put his mind to, he still couldn't find an assistant whose incompetence made Pinky shine.

That this nonsense went on way longer than the movie since it's a serial. I'm sure there was something in it that wasn't pure ridiculousness... no, I take that back. Everything was. Even the tendency to wreck every vehicle all the time. I can't see where more of the same would have made this any better. Even Batman vs. The Wizard was better planned out.

I'm sure a lot of the cut footage contained the repeated scenes shown just after the opening credits and title of the individual episodes. After all each of the episodes that formed this movie were seen on a weekly basis, so the audience had to be reminded what happened before. All of the credits and titles had to be removed too, except for the ones at the start and end of this movie. All of that add up to minutes. I'm also sure that the inclusion of the missing footage made little difference to the sensibility of the story.

One of the more odd things about turning the serial into a movie was leaving the serials music. I don't know if anyone noticed this or not. You get the usual hurried up quickie music throughout the thing. There is never really a pause or a point where it relaxes. It's also pushing towards a climax of a segment.

This came out in 1939. Even MK and B state this incorrectly during the riff probably because the print is cobbled from the rerelease put out in1949.

It's definitely a film of the late thirties. I think Hitler and other madmen were certainly on eveyrone's minds.
