Title: MST3K Live Tour 2018
Post by: wihogfan on June 04, 2018, 10:13:24 AM
Just announced.

Joel planning to riff along side Jonah and the bots.
Unfortunately not coming back to Green Bay (not surprised as the Green Bay show was probably only half sold).

Nothing in my neck of the woods, but I'm seriously considering a little road trip to Dallas...

(Sorry, Fort Worth.)

They are coming back to near Philadelphia (Glenside) so I will definitely go again.

Milwaukee is just an hour and a half away from me. But middle of November on a Thursday is usually a tough time for the wife to get away from work. But have a certificate for a free hotel room, so will probably book the hotel and buy the cheapest tickets available and if we end up not being able to go I'll try and sell the tickets.

Oh, man.  One of the movies is The Brain.  Thanks to Can-Con rules, that movie got a fair amount of play in the early days of "Space" (Canada's Sci-Fi channel).  It's very, very silly.  Oh, and the guy who played Turner in Maniac Mansion is eaten by a giant brain.

FYI to anyone who participated in the Kickstarter, the updated email with the pre-sale password has not gone out yet, but the update has been posted to Kickstarter with the password. I just got front row seats to both shows in Atlanta. Go to the event page on KS to get the password ASAP if you want to go.

I got the presale email with the password about an hour before tickets went on sale for Milwaukee. Didn't get the cheapest tickets like I planned because dead center tickets in row 10 were only $10 more than the cheap tickets. Didn't really look at the VIP packages this year (I had got the cheapest VIP tickets for the last tour) because I'm still not 100% sure I'll be able to go.

I got tickets for both shows at the PlayStation Theater in NYC, and I can’t wait!

FYI, It's about 3 hours quicker to get to Boulder.

Got a free hotel room booked 2 blocks away from the Milwaukee venue and the wife is down with driving down after work on Thursday and getting up early to head back to work on Friday morning if need be and she can't swing getting off work, so looking like there's a better than 50/50 chance we'll make the Milwaukee show (wild cards are weather in Wisconsin in November and if the wife can't get off work, she doesn't always work 8 to 5 around that time of year).

So I'm guessing they aren't going to bother filming this one either.

With as many stops as they're gonna make, I would Hope that they record some of them :-\

Just found out the wife is getting off at noon the day of the Milwaukee show and is off the next day, so (provided we don't have a blizzard or major snowstorm which is always possible in Wisconsin in November) we'll be going to the Milwaukee show and I won't have to sell my tickets.

Live tour started this week. Tonight is show 4. Anyone been to a show yet this time around and have any non-spoiler reviews?
I won't get to go until the last week of the tour.

We went to opening night in Portland, Maine. It was hilarious! The movie, "The Brain", was one of the most riffable movies that they've ever done, and there were many great riffs. I hope they tape and release a live performance on DVD or Blu-ray.

Cool. I was hoping to catch both movies, but only 1 show in Milwaukee this tour and it's The Brain (2 Milwaukee shows last tour, but we weren't able to make it to Milwaukee and caught Eegah in Green Bay which isn't a tour stop this year).

Yesterday I saw both the Brain and Deathstalker II get riffed by MST3K Live! I had a wonderful time at both of them!

That is all.

Really enjoyed the Milwaukee show on Thursday night. Some observances (which I'll "spoiler" just because the last 2 shows on the tour are tonight):

I'll add that the cost of merch was ridiculously expensive. $35 for a t-shirt. $100 for a spring snake (left over from the last tour I guess) and $100 for a sweatshirt. Didn't buy anything.

They were here in Norfolk a couple weeks ago. I wish I could have gone to see them, but tickets were like $50, and I just couldn't afford it.

Does anyone know if any of these shows were, or are going to be, recorded?

That's a shame, because "The Brain" was hilarious.

So an Albuquerque theater seems to have spoiled an upcoming MST3K tour.

Also THE MST3K TOUR IS COMING TO NM! I'M SO JAZZED! Just have to wait for tickets to go on sale. Which will probably come after a much more official announcement.

Someone asked Joel on Twitter if there would be a live tour this year and he replied “yes.”

Interesting that Joel is mentioned, but not Jonah.

This is good news because it suggest there will be a 13th season.

The circus theme shows Joel still loves innovating and working with the variety show format.

Indeed. I wouldn't neccesarily take that to mean Jonah is out if there is a season 13, but he may not be available for the tour.

I hope he's in the tour. I've met Joel already and it would be cool to meet Jonah. On the other hand, a chance to see Joel and the Bots reunited and riffing live is unprecedented in its own way...

Well, Joel riffed with Jonah and the bots on the last tour.
Really wish Joel would start recording these and releasing them as Netflix specials. Just seems like doing that would be an easy way to make an extra few dollars for the show. Maybe the equipment needed to record at Netflix quality would make it cost prohibitive, so next best thing would be selling DVDs equal to the Cinematic Titanic live releases. There's no way they were spending that much recording the Cinematic Titanic shows.

Official live tour announcement coming June 1.

Hopefully some news on season 13 (and seasons 14 & 15) will be announced some time soon as well (that's me hoping for a multi-season announcement because I hate the uncertainty).

There was an email and update from the Kickstarter campaign.

June 1 seems like a long time away to tease an announcement :P

BUT:

Of course, the end of our record doesn't mean the end of MST3K! We've got a lot more news abrewin', starting with our next big announcement on June 1 about the future of the live tour.

It doesn't seem to relate to new seasons, unless it is about new host.

New host? Sure, why not? But how about a female host this time.
