So, Kansas City is wanting to revamp it's airport. On the one hand, that's a shame, because KCI has such an awesome convenience to it, you can show up 30 minutes before your flight and have 20 minutes to wait. On the other hand, apparently out of town people hate the way that it's designed, and I can see why.

So I'm curious, have any of you flown through KCI, and what was your impression of it? I've always liked the airport, but I'm biased. I hated O'hare when I was there, Atlanta was ok, and Heathrow was nice, but none of them were as quick or convenient as KCI is.

Once.  I took a business trip between Indianapolis and Kansas City last March.  It was cool, because it was the first time I'd ever gone on a business trip.

It seemed like any other airport, so I can't complain or compliment.  I messed up going through security on the way back to Indianapolis.  Forgot to take one of my laptops out of the main suitcase, so they had to do some extra thorough inspection of it.  Oops.  Didn't really matter since it was an hour before the flight.  Which then landed in Chicago.  The connecting flight was 3 hours late, and it takes about 2 hours to drive from Chicago to Indianapolis.  Those situations are why I'm afraid of flying.

I can't say that I have, but that's a cool design. It makes sense, so long as you know you'll never need more space. Which according to that article, is the major problem. More space for security mainly. Also, you can't conveniently add more terminals to a design like that. I'm not sure why out of towners wouldn't like it. I've never gotten the impression that airports were designed with any kind of consistent logic.

Speaking of security, I have a metal plate in my leg, so that's oh so much fun.

"We are the largest city in the country without a direct trans-Atlantic flight"

Yeah, I can see how that would be a major problem. You can fly direct from San Fransisco or LA to London. If you want to be on a plane for 10 hours straight.

The main issue most people have is that there's not one security check point with all the gates behind it, meaning that if you have a connecting flight at KCI, you have to get off the plane, leave the gate area, go find the security point for the next gate you're at, and go through security again, whereas most airports don't tend to force you into that kind of situation. Plus, it gets rather crowded.
