place holder for later in the year.

So later starts today.

First up is the EA conference and, as is my wont, here's my random babblings as we progress.

*First up- EDM. Bass drop! Oh, and a drum line on the stage. Dressed in Patriots gear, so go to hell, EA.
*Madden! Now with story mode.
Lost some data here. Babbling about "We got a lot of feedback on Star Wars Battlefront 2." Understatement there.
*Battlefield 2- A cheap flash cartoon and a lot of streamers, none of whom I have heard of, talking about the community. And there's an Eastern front package on the way along with a small tournament type setting, because apparently some folks don't like the whole 64 people a side thing.
*A FIFA e-sports thing on the way. People in motion capture suits! Men in blazers and their podcast! My eyes are glazing over. "We're differentiating the talls from the smalls." Oh, here's our story mode for FIFA too. "Who is Alex Hunter?"
*And "A YouTube Presenter." I don't know him either but he froze in the middle of trying to give his speech, so yay. Humanization. Anyway, it's the next Need for Speed game. It's got a story mode too! You know, Forza just lets me take a car and drive it and maybe pay attention to the story when I get bored. Over to "gameplay.' Hey, cut scenes. In the middle of you driving. Yeah, that's a very bad idea.
*Indy games! In a "published by EA" indy way. This is made by the Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons folks. Oooooh. It's a co-op prison break game? Set in the late 60s-early 70s. "A Way Out." It *has* to be played in split screen, BTW.  Comes out 2018.
*Project Scorpio talk for a sec. And just a sec. Basically "It will look really good."
*A new IP. From Bioware. "The Wall protects us." Big monsters! Mechs! Voice over! "Anthem." More at the Microsoft conference.
*And over to NBA Live. And all that momentum vanishes. Thankfully, the stream buffers in an attempt to save us. Sadly the stream returns. Hey! A story mode!
*Star Wars! But not yet. Let's talk inclusion instead and EA's recent charity project. "Games can be a force for helpding people." (cough) Child's Play (cough) Anyway, some free games on EA All Access and Origin.
*And now Star Wars. Folks in Storm Trooper costumes. And the person playing the main character in SW BF2, in an impractical dress. But, hey, it has a story mode this time. It will help bridge the gap between Jedi and Force Awakens. Tim Zahn waves hi from his fortress of money. SW BF2 will have more content than 1. "The community thought there should have been more." In between the death threats they did say that, yes.  More streamers. Again, none of whom I know. Someone says "plethora." Yay vocabulary! And after talking up the single player... they show multiplayer gameplay. Naboo looks pretty at least.
*Another streamer! "They're game changers!"
*Oh hey. John Boyega in a pre-taped message. One of this tweets of "Hey, can we have a single player campaign in SW BF2?" was one of the big catalysts in EA's changing things. He'll be in DLC at launch. And all the seasons will be free.In the meantime, here's more multiplayer. i.e. the stuff that people weren't requesting more of.  And Episode 1 stuff! That was definitely what was people wanted more of.

Meanwhile on Twitter:

*The Battlefront 2 game finally ends. To EA's credit, it didn't seem scripted, but it went on waaaay too long and was rather lopsided, gameplay wise.
*And a Galaxy of Heroes ad. I guess it's over? Um, Thrawn's coming to the game. He buffs a stormtrooper in the trailer.

I think it's over. Wow. That was... not good. Little new news. Bioware gets 20 seconds of news. "A Way Out" looks interesting. But the rest? All stuff we knew about already.

Next conference? Microsoft tomorrow.

Okay, Microsoft Conference. A lot of Scorpio details seem to be leaking and we'll see if they're accurate.

*First up how resolution displays have changed over the years.Going all in on the 4k stuff, huh?
*We get a name- the X-Box 1 X. Meh. Nov 7th release. Also we now have an X Box 1 X and X Box 1 S. That won't cause issues.
*Specs- 12 GB Ram, 4k support, what ever the current Blu-Ray thing is, full backwards compatibility, up scaling old games, liquid cooling in the processor (any issues in tech description are my fault, not Microsoft's) and it'll be physically the smallest X-Box out there.
*And Camels. And then cars so Forza 7? Yep. Forza. The designer pronounces it with a "T" BTW "Fortza." And Porsche shows up to unveil the 2018 Porsche 911 G2S. Looks nice. Won't be able to afford one until 2028 or so though.
*And pro drivers show up to race. I'd gripe about their driving skills, but I know that my driving in Forza involves many, many more crashes than my real life driving does. (It'll be on Win 10 too, BTW.) October 3 release so it'll be out prior to Scorpio.
*42 games enroute for the show, including 22 exclusives.
*Oh, hey. A new Metro. Metro Exodus. In 2018. (On PC as well)
*Another world Premiere- Something in Egypt. So, probably Assassin's Creed: Origins. And yep. And the first Brotherhood member is named... Steve. That seems ahistor... Oh. Bayek. Nevermind. I'll note that the desert and oasis scenery looks gorgeous. Lots of flat browns but punctuated by bright greens and blues. And a loot system. And skill tree. And levels. Oct 27 release.
*And Microsoft pimps out Mixer, the old Beam (?) streaming service. And the guy behind Player Unknown Battlegrounds arrives. It'll be an X-Box exclusive for consoles.
*Another exclusive. Some folks shooting with Russian text. I'm pretty sure this is still PU:B. Oh, it is. Well, nevermind.
*Another exclusive- Deep Rock Galactic. Squad based survival shooter. In space. With Dwarves?
*Exclusive- from the voice over this sound like the setup to Fortnight, the team based zombie survival builder. Oh, close. State of Decay 2.  That's nice to hear. The first one was quite good.
*Another exclusive. It's another battle royale type game. This one being live casted by "Jethro Tull." Ugh. Very cartoonish art style. The Darwin Project.
*And Minecraft. Okay, I can zone out a bit. Got to hand it to Microsoft, this has been rather free of non-game content so far. No "Watch Netflix on your X-Box" antics like in years past.
*In Minecraft news, you can now play cross platform. That's nice to hear. And Minecraft will get a 4k update this fall. So the blocky graphics will look blocky in 4k. Oh, a super graphics pack also enroute. Your stuff? Still blocks. Plants and stuff? Realistic. That's ... interesting? Taking some ideas from the late Landmark maybe?
*Over to 3rd party stuff. And Dragonball Z images appear . It's the DB:Z fighting game recently teased, Dragonball Fighter Z. (2018 release)
*Another exclusive- flyover of a bunch of varied terrains. Korean-ish character models. An MMORPG? Yeah, Black Desert coming to the XB1.
*Say it with me- Exclusive.  The Last Night. Seems future nor-ish but with an 8-16 bit graphic style.
*Exclusive- Something set in Colorado. Yay. And it has guitars. And flying unicorn things. The Artful Escape. Oooookay.
*Something spectacle fightery. JP character design. Code Vein. From Bandai.
*Back to first party stuff. Gameplay from Sea of Thieves, Rare's pirate game. Pirates just off their galleon to explore an undersea wreck. Then off to an island to search for buried treasure. Yarrr. Undead pirate skeletons. At this point in the segment, we are carrying a treasure chest, running from skeletons while your ship is firing at them from the shore, all while a storm is beginning to rage. I must note that this looks neat, but doing this with a random PUG seems iffy. Still, it looks promising.
*Off to a space station. Tacoma. August 2.  You know have as much info as I do.
*And an anthropomorphic fox. Either a kid's game or the start to some furry porn.  Oh, he's collecting coins. Whew. It's an adventure platformer. Super Lucky's Tale. Looks cute. If it plays as well as it looks, then yay. Nov 7.
*Another exclusive. Black  & White. Cuphead? Yep. It has a 1930 copyright date. And a Septmber 29 release date. Hear that Pak?
*Microsoft Studios. I hear sirens.  And Terry Crews. And I see orbs. It's Crackdown 3.  4 player co-op too. Nov 7.
*And a sizzle reel to boost us to that 42 count. The close captions are covering up most of the game titles, by the way. I spot the Riot Minion Masters game there. Hello Neighbor. Conan Exiles. Something where you're sword fighting in the sky. A basketball game with lots of colors. "Over 500 games released through X-Box ID"
*More exclusives. Anna Purina games. A multiplayer exploring dungeon game, Ashen.
*Squeenix. A skateboard and girl smoking. The prequel to Life is Strange.
*Oh, orcses. Middle Earth time. And in Shadow of War, you seem to be recruiting some of the orcs to serve you. Interesting. I'm not sure about the canon-ness of this though, but hey, if it's fun then give the orcs machine guns for all I care.
*Another World Premiere- it's a live piano player. I can see that at the mall, XBox. This is... atmospheric? And it has an owl. Oh, it's Ori: Will of the Wisps. A new Ori game is nice.
*Phil talks about the 385 titles available for 360 backwards compatibility. And the program is expanding back to Xbox games. The first one. I'd call it Xbox 1 , but that would confuse people. And Crimson Skies will be one of the first tiles. Woot. (Psst. Do the Gladius game that Lucasarts did next.)
*And on Nov 7, Scorpio arrives. And it's $499, which has been the price leaked all weekend. (That's twice the price of a PS Pro, which might be an issue.)
*Last team to arrive - EA with a new IP. Bioware is mentioned, so this is about Anthem. Open world exploratory. And gameplay time. You are freelancers exploring the unknown and protecting humanity. And you're in powered armor, oh, sorry. Javelin exo-suits. And wow. That's some nice scenery there. The suit flies then dives underwater. I'll note that the fake players chatting with each other kinda kills the immersion. "We should head back there with Kim to get some XP." Guys, not cool. Loot drops. World events. (I'm getting a Firefall vibe here. Except not in a "Wow. This turned into a disaster like Firefall did" way.) 2018 release. Well that might have Destiny 2 looking over its shoulder.

And another sizzle reel to close things up. Lots of games covered. Zero of the "social extras" stuff from prior years. Not impressed with the Scorpio official name. The price might also be an issue, but we'll see. Old Xbox BC news was great. Don't care about 4k, but yay for folks who have one, I guess. Most of these exclusives will also be on Windows 10 though, but if you don't have a gaming PC for those, well, there you go.

Up next- Bethesda, who have privately said "Our conference? Big, big news....", will be up at Midnight Eastern tonight in about 5 hours.

Yes. Microsoft, EA and Bethesda all moved their conferences to the weekend for reasons.

Also, I'm reminded that I should replay State of Decay and Shadows of Mordor.

I'm reminded that I should finish Shadow or Mordor. I got stuck on one of the later missions.

Loud and clear! :^) There's the E3 news I've been waiting for. I've been terrified that this was going to turn up as vaporware.

Will be interested in the X box One X bundles. It's the console I've been waiting for to replace my burnt out 360. The problem is I'm going to need some sort of audio system as it doesn't appear to have analogue audio out. Maybe time for a new 4K monitor as well.
Title: Re: E3 2017

Okay, Late night Bethesda time. Or as we out in this neck of the woods call it. "When we used to go to bed in Junior High" time.

To start us off, the flyer being distributed for the conference is too large to link to but has images for Evil Within 2 and a new Wofenstein. So those might, just might, be talked about.

*Here we go. And kids! Presumably of the folks at Bethesda. Who are trying to explain what their folks do. Awwww. Some of the kids note that they can't play the games their folks work on until they're older. Dawww.
*Sizzle real. Hey, Dishonored 2.  Kinda forgot about that one. And we are welcomed to Bethesdaland. Oh lord. We're moving into Ubisoft levels of cringe here.
*Hey, here's some games already out. Prey. Doom. Dishonored 2. Fallout Shelter. Skyrim. Fallout 4.
*First up in actual new games- VR stuff. And... is this a Doom VR game? Holy cow. And that's followed by a Fallout 4 VR game. Well, that will move some VR units. Apparently these are both full length versions of the games. Wow.
*Elder Scrolls Online, now with Morrowind. And we get a generic "Teens React to ESO with Bears" segment.
*Back to the Bethesdaland Narrator. Consoles have mods now, BTW. And Creation Club is introduced. It's a licensed mod marketplace for B games that "won't break your games." We'll see how that goes.
*Elder Scrolls Legends, Bethesda's CG game is up next. It's good from what I hear and is coming to mobile soon. There's a Skyrim expansion late this month too.
*Back to Bethesdaland. Skyrim's coming to Switch."Now that's a switch!" Boooo. You can unlock a Link costume in the game though using an Amiibo though.
*Back to Bethesdaland and more Dishonored.  And the trailer is a hallway fight, Dishonored style, complete with "what will do with a drunken whaler" as background music. September 15, it's you against the Outsider.
*Quake Champions. Not paying much attention.
*Something new and scary.... Evil Within 2. Friday, October 13. And it uses a very creepy cover of a Duran Duran song.
*Next up, commercials from German Occupied American TV. Wolfenstein II- The New Colossus. The world Nazi is getting used a whole lot. October 27. It includes a firefight while someone has an LSD freak out.

And that's it. 45 minutes. Everything shown will be out by the end of the year.

Huh. Well, most folks were expecting a reveal of something big but nope. It's over.

Well, okay up next on Monday is the PC games show, which is in 11 hours or so.  After that comes Ubi, Sony and then Devolver at 1 AM Tuesday morning.
Title: Re: E3 2017
Post by: Compound on June 11, 2017, 10:22:20 PM
Okay, my mistake. Devolver is right now. Let's see if they announce anything.

*Streamer Jon Carnage is hosting and various other folks from Twitch are there. They're doing a skit. It's more cringy than the Ubi conference dancing to Queen while wearing panda costumes.
*Oh thank goodness. The actual conference. Maybe. Their Chief Synergy Officer takes the stage and starts shooting a .38 into the air.
*78k people are watching this on the main Twitch channel? What is wrong with you?
*Oh, thank goodness. A game. Ruiner. It's very Ultra violent and a top down shooter.
*"The fans are throwing money at the screen and we look at our bank account and the money isn't there."  And more sketch stuff. And someone's hand just got cut off. Well it is after midnight in some timezones.
*A new Serious Sam game. This one is a Robotron top down shooter because why wouldn't it be?
*Now available from Devolver- Devolver Digital Early Access.
*Oh Suda51. And he doesn't have a game coming out and has no idea why they're interviewing him. Okay, that was at least amusing.
*More sketch time. The assistant is still covered in blood from the last sketch. Now available Comment Created Content. Comment on the game? We'll change it. Immediately. And we get a nightmare fueled psychotic breakdown, complete with Scanners-style head exploding.

...It's like they hired Tim & Eric to give a press conference. That's not a complement.

*And then an anthropomorphic burrito gets eaten.
*Back over to the Twitch studio. I honestly don't know if they're still doing this or not.
*More game footage. Frog Smashing. It's Smash Brothers, but with frogs. No, that's how they described it.

Look, basically Devolver basically trolled us with a fake press conference. I'm just going to nod, smile and tap out at this point.  Back for real conferences in 10 hours or so.

The Dragonball fighting game looks pretty good.  I missed having a good 2D fighter and I never understood why so many popular anime went to using the 3D model, which I never cared for.

PC Gaming Conference.

Running on fumes, so my apologies.

*Oh hey. Fake pro gamers. Followed by an Intel Veep. He's eschewed the official "I'm a gamer" outfit of the weekend (Jeans, blazer, t-shirt with a gaming related image on it) and is just going with a plain T and jeans. Core processors! And other technical stuff.
*I've not seen the actual host of this yet... and a quick check of the schedule shows that the 9 AM start time is actually 10 AM. So, be back in a minute.
*Holy cow. The Intel part actually had a recognizable streamer.  I'm shocked.

Okay, real PC show up now. Our host, Sean "Day 9' Plott is wearing a pink paisley tie and pink shirt. Sean? Let other people choose your outfit. The Darkest Dungeon guy is doing narration. I make the mistake of looking at Twitch chat. Yeah, with 78k people it's really bad.
*First up, X-Com 2 news. Zombies aka "The Lost". Psionic warriors. Friendly (?) aliens?  Competing resistance factions. It's XCom 2 :War of the Chosen. Lots of new enemies, classes, and stuff. Roughly twice the size of the Advent expansion for X-Com. The Chosen act a bit like the bosses from the hunter DLC , getting stronger over the course of the game. You can recruit the other factions to the X-Com cause and get stronger in return. August 29 release.
*A Double Fine game- Ooblets, which is a cross between Harvest Moon and Pokemon made by two people. It's got a familar artstyle.
*Battletech. Wooo. Mitch Gittleman and Jordan Weisman show up to talk about the campaign. I backed the Kickstarter for this so it's nice to see that it's almost here. Beta is quite nice too.
*New Mount and Blade game. M&B 2: Battlelord.
*Total War: Warhammer 2. Dark Elves, High Elves, Lizardmen and a mystery faction in this one. The lizardmen have dinosaur units. Sep 28.
*Shadowverse expansion news. Kripp is talking about it. He's fairly well known on Twitch and in Hearthstone. This expansion is fairy-tale themed, Wonderland Dreams.
*And Intel returns to talk stuff. He's here to talk about the stuff in the conference that was airing while I went to take a catnap. I'll respond by grabbing some lunch. The Intel guy does confirm that Destiny 2 is coming to PC though, which hasn't been publicly stated at E3 yet. And Tim Schafer is judging an indie game contest where the winner is revealed at Pax West
*The Intel Grand Slam- "The Grand Slam is a thing used in Tennis, golf and rugby." Er... aren't you forgetting one major usage?
*Well, the Intel guy has sucked all the energy from the room, so back to gaming. The unlucky game to suffer from the return is Secret Legend, which promptly renames itself as Tunic.  It looks like old, old school Zelda, but with a chibi fox protagonist.
*Player Unknown :Battlegrounds. It's still in early access, despite being the 3rd most watched thing on Twitch right now.
*Rising Storm 2. Which is already out. And a summer game pack for Killing Floor 2 set in a carnival.
*Forza 7, which is also on PC.
*Sea of Thieves, which has been pushed back to 2018. It's on PC too, because Microsoft likes money. The PC version was built separately from the XB1 version and isn't a port and is optimized for the PC.
*The Last Night, whose trailer is above.
*New from Bohemia interactive, makers or Arma III and Day Z, is a game about getting stranded on a desert island. And cowboys. And exploring ruins. And fighting castle sieges. And 1920s auto races. And this game might need more focus. It's Y Lands (pronounces Islands) and it's a survival sandbox game with building stuff in it.
*Grift Lands, from the Don't Starve/ Osygen Not Included folks. Sci-fi game. The trailer uses some Banner Saga type cartoons with a dash of Heavy Metal. The magazine, not music genre.)

*Lone Echo, a VR game. You play an AI in a mining station around Saturn. Looks neat. Troy Baker's voice acting in it, just in case you've been missing his 5 minute absence from voice acting.  Also, in addition to the adventure game there's a sports game using the same mechanics.
*Cliffy B shows up to talk Lawbreakers. It'll be out on Aug 8. PC/PS4 $30. And Cliffy took a shot at Overwatch and "betas" that last a week.
*From the Stardew Valley folks, War Groove. Hey! You liked Harvest Moon on PC? Here's Advance Wars! And Nintendo's not doing anything with this lately either! (Okay, maybe closer to Fire Emblem but still. It's on PC, turn based and tactical. And has online play and mods.)
*Shadow of War- October 10th.
*Final game- from Microsoft. And it can't be named! Which will make this segment awkward.  Holy Cow. It's a new Age of Empires. Oh. No, it's an Age of Empires remake. It's been remastered from the ground up. New music, with a symphony, online multiplayer, better graphics, new UI.  But it's still not AoE IV.

Okay, PC show is over. Up next Ubi Soft.

Okay, Ubisoft. Aisha Tyler is not expected to be there.  For Honor? Lost about 95% of players lost since launch. Things looking a bit bleak at Ubi right now. But here goes:

*Rabbids! And a Mario coin cube. This would be the Mario vs. Rabbids Tactical game for the Switch. Yes, it's a real thing. And Shigeru Miyamoto arrives on stage. There's a photo op. It's cute. Mario+ Rabbids: Kingdom Battle. And that might be the first toilet in a Mario game.

*Assassin's Creed Origins. And the trailer continues Ubi's string of "music that doesn't really fit the setting" as it sounds more appropriate for the Blind Boys of Alabama rather than Ancient Egypt.
*Sirens. Cars. I'm guessing The Crew 2 here. And I'm correct. Looks very racing.
*Lightning. South Park. Oct 17. No Trey and Matt this time though. Hmmmm. Ubi might not want to be poking the tiger on this.
*Colors. And a game where Elijah Wood is the creative director. In VR. Huh. Transference. 2018
*A new surprise from Ubi Singapore.Set in 1721. Pirates? Holy cow. It is about pirates. Are they actually listening to folks cries for more Black Flag? Skull & Bones. Well, that's pretty damn close. And then they say "it's a shared world." Team based piracy.  Noooooo! Just let me shoot ships solo! I don't want to deal with other people! Well, more pirate stuff for the Black Flag  crowd.

And Ubi is doing annoying stuff. Intro teaser. Person talking. Gameplay. Trailer again. You can cut one of those trailers out guys.

*Oh, dancing. Joy. Just Dance. Yes the dancing panda is back. As well as J-Pop. And some poor pop star they dragged out there.
*And a South Park mobile game. With Cowboys. South Park: Phone Destroyer. Huh. Trey and Matt do not like phone games. At all.
*Off to space. It's a Skylanders-ish game, but with buildable spaceships.  Starlink Battle for Atlas.
*Steep. Which had fallen off the face of the Earth. But it's getting an expansion in September. Right now 84 people are playing Steep on Steam.  For comparison, 1500 people are playing FTL, which is a half decade older and niche.
*Off to Montana for some Far Cry 5. It has a dog that brings you guns. Like AK-47s in its mouth. With that it becomes a must buy.
*And a monkey with a British accent. And a jet pack. Scamming a giant pig. The graphics are amazing BTW. It's Beyond Good and Evil 2! Holy cow! They have poured some serious cash into it!
Seriously, look at this:

And with that teaser, we won't hear of it again for another 5 years....

Show's over. This was not a traditional Ubi conference in that it did not suck. Actual gameplay. Actual announcements that were unexpected. But no For Honor. No new Clancy titles. (Not even Splinter Cell, which seems due.)

Up next- Sony in about 4 hours.

Leaked ahead of the Sony conference- Ni No Kuni 2 will be out in November.

And in "Wait, what?" news comes this from Atari:

A retro console ala last years mini-NES maybe?  Those already exist for the Atari consoles. So what is this?

A Mario/Rabbits cover based tactical game... Basically X-Com, with Mario...

Really? That was the best idea you could come up with? Well, it will just be another Nintendo game I'll never play. The last Nintendo console I bought was the SNES. Start porting your games to PC.. or don't. That's why emulation exists.

Sony's "Playstation Media Showcase"

Shown in the lead up to the show is a PS4/Vita version of Undertale, in case you don't have a PC that can run it. Or a toaster than can run it. Neat looking collector's edition of it though.

*Sony's got their orchestra back, this time playing Indian themed music. Is Ghandi about to nuke me? Have I slipped back to the late 60s and the Beatles are in their Indian phase? Is Sony just steaming the wrong thing? Oh, video. And the Uncharted ladies. With no audio. Off to a good start. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. It's lost. Just like the sound.
*Something from Guerilla. Some Horizon DLC. Sound still borked. Horizon: The Frozen Wild.
Okay, Twitch and all other off-site sources have no sound. The only live one with good sound is Sony's direct feed. Folks are quite aggrieved.
*In the meantime, something with bikers. And mutant dogs. Days Gone, that zombie game from last year. Oh, and a mutant bear.

Idiots  in the crowd doing the "we're not worthy" thing. For Days Gone. Really?

* Oh, someone from Sony arrives to babble. Here are games we've made! VR! Stuff! Franchises!
*"A title beloved by people around the world." Grabbed by the Ghoulies? Crash Band... Oh. Someone with an anime sized sword. Hey a Tyrannosaur. Or an approximation of one. Capcom presents Monster Hunter World. Huh. I thought Nintendo had the rights to all those.  Guess not. Next year.
*Japan Studio. That the actual studio title, not me trying to be cute. Giant creatures and running up them. Shadow of the Colossus? Wait. A remake or remaster? Future Me: It's called Shadow of the Colossus Remastered Remastered. Yes, that's the title.

*More Capcom. Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite. With story elements? Going after that Injustice market? Sept 19.with a Story Demo available now. And Dante gives Rocket his guns to play with. Heh.
*Normandy. Arnhem. I'm guessing Call of Duty:WW2 here. And the music does not scream WW2 at all. And folks are dual wielding. In WW2. Nov 3.
*And a VR headset. And first up Skyrim VR. I'll wave bye bye to some of my friends now who will retreat into this and never leave.
*Still in VR- With a lot of neon it's a side scroller. A VR Side Scroller. That's like a VR card game. Star Child.
*From Supermassive- something with 1950s music. The Inpatient. You're trapped in an asylum! Fun!
*VR Fishing! With the Final Fantasy XV characters! This isn't sarcasm! Monster of the Deep! In September!
*More Supermassive- Bravo Team. A VR shooter.
*Still in VR- Polyarc. You've got a book! A magic book! And a mouse! These are ex-Bungie folks, BTW. Looks like Mouse Guard crossed with an adventure game. Moss. Doesn't really seem to make use of the whole VR thing though.

*It's a PS4 image. And then sounds of water. And shots of the crowd. Not helping, idiot camera people. And Kratos is in a boat. If this is a Kratos VR fishing game.... Well, the kid is there so this must be the real game. God of War in early 2018.
*And someone arrives to sing. Lovely voice. It's that Detroit game. "Detroit" with the robots. "We're going to set our people free!" You were made in a factory, you know. Anyway it's an android rebellion! A mechanized melee! A robot riot! I'm going to rip out your CPU and show it to you still processing! Thank you  Love Handel. Let's see how David Cage does on this one.
*Destiny 2. Sept 6. With exclusive stuff on PS4.
*The Sony guy returns. A true exclusive for PS. It's a city! And the Spidey music plays. Sony drags a second screen onto the stage for reasons. Looks comparable to the better Spidey games, but we'll see. But this is a trailer with a lot of scripted events. Let's see how the full game goes. 2018.

And that's it. Wow. Really? No Last of Us 2? No Gran Turismo? Kingdom Hearts 3? Crash Bandicoot? Anything? Nope. That's it. Just trailers. A few bits of gameplay for Days Gone and more for Spidey. No real humans out there either except for 5 musicians and Sony guy. But just trailers here, and not even very well done.

Okay, last up is Nintendo in about 12 hours.

Oh, I guess Monster Hunter World is a big deal to the Monster Hunter fans, but I'm not in that group. Also, it's coming to PC and Xb1 too.

Atari's been quietly releasing new iterations of the Atari Flashback every couple years since long before the NES Classic made everyone crazy for the concept. I bought the Flashback 2 back when there were 30 games. This latest version has 120. I'm guessing they want to ride the frenzy that was generated by the NES Classic, but it's really, REALLY hard to get gamers interested in Atari unless they were there.

EDIT: Wait that's not the trailer I assumed it was. The Ataribox? They just finished hyping the Flashback 8. What the heck would this thing be, then?

A note I'm hearing from folks I know on the show floor.

A number are saying that we you see stuff on stream, it looks okay. But when you see them on a monitor or TV they look incredible. The limitations of band width may not be doing some of the games justice. Or the games might be running on optimized systems and the best monitors. We won't really know until the games hit.

Okay, Nintendo.

*Reggie arrives to talk Switch.
*Something JRPG-y. Giant trees  called Elysium. Flying ships. Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Holiday 2017
*Kirby. Just Kirby for the title. 2018. Looks like it might be up to 4 players.
*The Pokemon folks show up to talk Switch. They talk about that Pokken fighting game. And then Pokefreak announces that they're working on something for the Switch. It's at least a year off though.
*Metroid Prime 4 is in development. All we get for info is "in development" and the logo. But hey, Metroid fans. You're not completely forgotten about!
*A Yoshi game.  You have to switch between a green and red Yoshi to solve puzzles. Just titled "Yoshi." 2018
*Dragons attack! This is the Fire Emblem Warriors game it seems. It'll be out in the fall.
*Zelda's producer shows up reminding you that Zelda stuff will be in Skyrim. And then DLC for Breath of the Wild. Shirtless Link is fighting stuff. New costumes. A Hero Mode and Master Mode.
*And now accordions. Who doesn't love those? More DLC for Breath of the Wild revolving around Zelda and the 4 champions in the game. They're getting Amiibos too.
*Back to Reggie. "We're at E3." There's a Splatoon tourney today, a Pokken tourney tomorrow then an Arms tourney later in the day where 4 pros will compete against the 4 best E3 attendees. Apparently there are Pro Arms players despite the fact that the game hasn't been released yet.
*Another look at Mario+ Rabbids.
*Rocket League. I guess it's on the Switch this Christmas. Cross platform support so that you can play folks on other platforms. That's nice.
*Dinosaurs! Wearing Mario hats. And it's a 3d Mario game where he gets extra powers by tossing his hat onto other things. Okay... This includes things like taxis and what might be Donald Trump. Super Mario Odyssey this fall.

And it's over. 25 minutes. Well, that was short.

More news:

Bandai is doing a remaster of the old PS2 .Hack games for the PC and PS4. Updates to the game, aside from better graphics, include higher movement speeds, a larger item inventory, increased XP gain for less grinding, and skippable cutscenes. No US release date yet, but .Hack did well here so it's likely.

During the Treehouse, Nintendo announced another Metroid title:
Quote
"Metroid: Samus Returns brings back the feel of the classic adventures, but with improved graphics and new abilities! Coming 9/15 for #3DS!"

Ni No Kuni 2 is also coming out on PC, alongside the PS4 release.

The folks who made Castlevania: Lords of Shadow are releasing "Raider of the Broken Planet" an asymmetric shooter for PC and Xb1.

It doesn't speak highly of the original when the remaster shortens or outright lets you skip half the content of the original in an attempt to make it more fun.  "You know what would make this game better?  If there was a lot less."  "A lot less what?"  "Everything. Just a lot less of it in general. Make it so people have to play it as little as possible."

As is pretty much always the case, Nintendo brought the most to the table for me. Kirby, Yoshi, Mario, Fire Emblem, Metroid, more Metroid... These are all games I'll be playing.

Ditto, although Kirby looked pretty dull to me. It's a weird franchise that has some great and unusual titles, but the 'main' line is so repetitive, it always looks like basically the same game.

Kirby gets bonus points for being a game I can play with my son. He loooves Kirby and Yoshi.

They're getting better about that. I had no problem getting the Fire Emblem set. Of course the Metroid Amiibos will be in a bit higher demand.

Late reply (very late) but in that era of JRPGs, there was grinding. A looooooot of grinding. Not "Kill bears for 10 bear livers for this quest" but "Kill bears for 100 bear livers" levels of grinding. Reducing that stuff is appreciated for those of us who liked the story, but weren't up for grinding for 6 hours before we could get to the next story bit.
