Julius Peppers Returning to Panthers
March 10, 2017

Seven seasons after leaving and three years after nearly returning, Julius Peppers is coming home.

According to his agent, the Carolina Panthers’ all-time leader in sacks has agreed to a deal that will let the North Carolina native finish his career where he began. Peppers, the No. 2 pick of the 2002 draft, has since racked up 143.5 sacks, good for fifth on the all-time list.

After bolting Charlotte for Chicago in 2010, Peppers talked to the Panthers about returning in 2014. But the Packers swooped in with a much bigger offer, putting the homecoming on hold.

The Panthers aren’t planning to have Peppers, 37, play a full-time role. He’ll most likely start and see around 20 snaps per game.

Eagles made a bunch of moves this week, I think most of them were salary cap related, so hopefully there are bigger moves coming.

They did get Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith, not sure about Smith but Jeffery should be a better wide receiver than what we had.

The Bills were able to keep Tyrod Taylor as he was willing to renegotiate his contract. At least they've got a puncher's chance this season.

Not convinced TT is the right QB but with the former Panthers DC as their new head coach I think the Bills make a run at the playoffs very soon 8)

Former Carolina Panthers wide receiver Corey Brown has a new home.

The fourth-year pro has signed with the Buffalo Bills, the team has announced.

Brown, 25, was formerly an undrafted free agent out of Ohio State who spent the previous three seasons in Carolina largely as the team's fourth receiver. The speedster has caught 79 receptions for 1,000 yards and seven touchdowns over his career. He had four catches for 80 yards in Super Bowl 50 before exiting with a concussion.

Brown joins Mike Tolbert as the second former Panther to sign with Buffalo this offseason. Brown, who also goes by the nickname 'Philly,' was technically a restricted free agent this offseason for Carolina, but the team didn't tender him an offer, making Brown an unrestricted free agent last Thursday.

Oakland Raiders closing in on potential move to Las Vegas

    By Ian Rapoport
    NFL Network Insider
    Published: March 22, 2017 at 04:11 p.m.
    Updated: March 22, 2017 at 04:49 p.m.

The Raiders will head into next week's Annual League Meetings in Arizona closing in on a potential move to Las Vegas. Though it's not a full certainty, the expectation is the 32 owners will vote on whether the Las Vegas Raiders is in the NFL's future.

According to several sources informed of their situation, the outlook is positive that the team will get the OK to move -- either next week or at the Spring League Meeting in May. The Raiders will make a presentation, briefly touching on Oakland but mainly selling their vision to the league. The league would also present, then there would be a question-and-answer period. If all goes well, there would be a vote.

There are plenty of issues and news items that came to light after discussing it with those involved:

» The expectation is that the relocation fee for the Raiders move to Las Vegas would be from $325 million to $350 million range. It has not yet been set, another item for next week. It's a hefty price, but a far cry from the Rams' and Chargers' relocation fees of $650 million.

» Though it has not been made public, the Raiders have, in fact, identified a site for the potential new stadium in Las Vegas. The plan is for the new stadium to be adjacent (a mile or two away) from the Strip. The team has an option on the land that runs through the end of the league meetings. If they receive the 24 votes, they'll pick up the option on the land. To the team, that is their urgency.

» It is hard to find many "no" votes for the Raiders' plan to move. The reality is, Oakland has not shown and does not present any real push to keep the team in their city. There is no plan. And while some owners might be hesitant to move a team from a large market to a mid-level market, there is not another viable option. Even if there is a delay in the vote (to May), it will mean nothing about the city of Oakland possibly being an option. It is not. The Vegas market isn't large, but it's tourism is intriguing to several owners.

» The only real roadblock to a "yes" vote next week is that there could be opposition in the room to "why now?" As in, since the Raiders are playing in Oakland for at least the next two seasons, why does the vote have to be now? The team will say it's because their option on the land runs out. At this point, it's hard to find any legitimate and complete opposition to the move.

» If the Raiders receive the requisite votes, it's expected to be conditional based on a few different factors. This is standard (the Rams stadium was conditional based on FAA approval, for instance). There hasn't been a formal recommendation from the relocation committee. That would have to come. And the vote might be subject to a lease being finalized. As far as the financing, that would have to be approved as well. It is considered sound and viable.

» Expect UNLV to have a significant presence on the new stadium, as opposed to simply being someone who plays games there. That means signage and other amenities to show the Runnin' Rebs are partners. In addition, expect a developer to be announced this week for around the stadium, one who has experience working with UNLV.

The Raiders aren't there yet. But based on the way it is heading, the team could end next week with their wheels in motion on a move to Las Vegas.

NFL team owners approve Raiders' move to Las Vegas

    Published: March 27, 2017 at 02:07 p.m.
    Updated: March 27, 2017 at 02:56 p.m.

The Raiders are leaving Oakland again, this time for the neon lights of Las Vegas.

In a decision that would have been hard to fathom not so long ago, NFL owners voted 31-1 on Monday at the Annual League Meeting to approve the Raiders' proposal to relocate to Las Vegas.

The decision comes after years of fruitless efforts by Raiders owner Mark Davis to build a viable stadium in Oakland. The failure to do so, which goes back to Davis' late father Al Davis' stewardship of the team, led to exploring stadium options in Los Angeles and eventually Las Vegas, where Nevada lawmakers approved $750 million in public funding for a new stadium. The Autumn Wind will no longer blow through Raiders games as the team is expected to move into a planned $1.7 billion domed stadium in Las Vegas.

In what is sure to be an awkward process, the Raiders won't be moving immediately. The new stadium in Las Vegas is not expected to be ready until 2020. The Raiders plan to play at the Oakland Coliseum in 2017 and 2018, Davis said in a statement. Davis also expressed openness to staying in Oakland in 2019, although NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said the league would look into potential venues for 2019. In the meantime, the Raiders will remain the Oakland Raiders.

"My father always said, 'the greatness of the Raiders is in its future,' and the opportunity to build a world-class stadium in the entertainment capital of the world is a significant step toward achieving that greatness," Davis said.

This is a surreal moment involving one of the NFL's most iconic franchises, although NFL teams changing cities is sadly becoming routine. The news caps a frenetic 14-month stretch during which three teams announced plans for relocation. The Rams moved from St. Louis back to Los Angeles last year and the Chargers announced their decision to move from San Diego to L.A. in January. Goodell said last week on MMQB Peter King's podcast that leaving Oakland would be "painful."

The pain of not maximizing stadium revenues is perhaps a bigger issue within league circles. The Chargers left San Diego after 57 years because they couldn't solve their stadium dilemma. The Raiders are deserting Oakland for the desert for the same reason.

"The Raiders were born in Oakland and Oakland will always be part of our DNA," Davis said Monday. "We know that some fans will be disappointed and even angry, but we hope that they do not direct that frustration to the players, coaches and staff. We plan to play at the Coliseum in 2017 and 2018, and hope to stay there as the Oakland Raiders until the new stadium opens. We would love nothing more than to bring a championship back to the Bay Area."

On Friday, Oakland and Alameda County officials made an 11th-hour effort to persuade NFL owners that they indeed had a feasible stadium plan for the Raiders. In a letter to the league, Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf outlined a proposal for a $1.3 billion stadium plan in Oakland that would include public financing. Raiders fans and the San Francisco Chronicle editorial board also made last-ditch pleas to the NFL, citing the Raiders' tradition and growing Oakland market.

Responding to Schaaf, Goodell wrote in a letter that the plan "does not present a proposal that is clear and specific, actionable in a reasonable time frame, and free of major contingencies." He added: "All of these efforts, ours and yours, have not yet identified a viable solution" toward keeping the Raiders in Oakland.

After no stadium solutions could be negotiated in Oakland, Las Vegas emerged as the Raiders' strongest potential destination after Nevada lawmakers approved $750 million in public funding for a new stadium. The Raiders and the NFL will provide $500 million toward stadium construction and Bank of America will contribute additional funding. The move to Vegas comes after the NFL rejected a plan in January 2016 by the Raiders and Chargers to share a stadium in the L.A. suburb of Carson, voting in favor of the Rams' Inglewood stadium project.

By the time Monday's vote arrived, the idea of the Las Vegas Raiders didn't seem so strange. Owners approved relocation by a 30-vote margin, with only the Dolphins voting against the measure. Owner Stephen Ross expressed publc disappointment about the move Sunday to the Bay Area News Group, comparing an NFL team to a utility and cautioning the NFL to consider its legacy in local markets. That message went unheeded, so this promising Raiders squad heads into the great unknown.

The announcement of the Raiders departure, after all, comes at a particularly juicy time in recent Raiders history. 22 years after the team moved back to Oakland following 13 seasons in Los Angeles, the team has finally found a young franchise quarterback to build around. After more than a decade without a winning record, Derek Carr led the Raiders to a 12-4 record in 2016. Buoyed by a strong supporting cast, including pass rusher Khalil Mack and a stout offensive line, the Raiders have a young nucleus that looks ready to compete for a title.

The Raiders franchise has won three Super Bowls and an AFL title in its wandering 57-year history, creating a Raider Nation that goes far beyond the Bay Area's borders. In essence, that's what Davis and the NFL is counting on. That this fan base will continue to travel.

Still, Raiders fans in Oakland have patiently waited a long time for another winner. Now the team has a chance to accomplish something unprecedented in NFL history: Win a Super Bowl for a city just before leaving it.

The NFL draft is in Philly this weekend, the city started with no parking zones weeks ago, final street closures are starting tonight.

It has become an event that takes weeks to prepare for?

Between that and the Penn Relays this weekend they are expecting 300,000 people to come into the city.

Funny, the very first one was held in Philly in 1936 but it hasn't been back here since 1961.

I guess the Eagles figure there will be good corner backs still around later on, that's what they need most but they get a guy that hopefully will be able to get sacks like he did in college, but that doesn't always happen.  I guess if they figure they can put more pressure on the opposing quarter back they won't need as good a defense downfield?

Examining why Panthers parted ways with Dave Gettleman

Posted 45 minutes ago

CHARLOTTE -- On a Monday night in February 2016, Dave Gettleman was the toast of Super Bowl 50. Standing in the middle of an arena in San Jose, the lifelong scout-turned-general manager soaked in a Media Night spotlight that beamed brightly on the then 17-1 Panthers.

Just 17 months later, the foundation of that shine remains, but Gettleman is gone.

The decision by Owner/Founder Jerry Richardson to dismiss his GM a week before training camp is a shocker that raises plenty of questions. The biggest: why?

To be clear, none of the reasoning you’re about to read is straight from Richardson's mouth to my ears. It's all based on my observations over the past few years.

Also, it's impossible to ignore the wealth of good Gettleman did after coming to Carolina in January 2013. During his four seasons in charge, the Panthers went 43-26-1 with three straight NFC South titles, a résumé made even more impressive by the fact he improved the team's salary cap.

But while it's easy to assume differently, most organizations aren't as black and white as the results they produce on the field. So what seems like a sudden, stunning decision is something that truly started spreading roots shortly after the Panthers returned from their Super Bowl loss to the Broncos.

In the months that followed, Richardson had to have been concerned about how the roster was taking shape. There was little depth on the offensive line, and a week before the draft, Gettleman stunned the entire league by rescinding the franchise tag he placed on Josh Norman.

Despite Gettleman's reasoning, replacing a Pro Bowl cornerback and the retiring Charles Tillman with rookies was an almost impossible way to defend an NFC championship. The ramifications intensified when Gettleman wasn’t able to turn the money earmarked for Norman into a deal with a member of the Panthers' core.

Contract talks either stalled or never started with players in line for eventual extensions, most notably defensive tackle Kawann Short, guard Trai Turner and defensive end Mario Addison. Turner and Addison then improved their stock dramatically in 2016, which meant Richardson had to write a larger check to keep Addison. Turner, meanwhile, is still waiting for a long-term deal that could make him one of the highest-paid interior linemen in the league.

Of course, none of those reasons fully explain Monday’s decision, and they don't answer why a change was made now. One presumable significant crack in the foundation began two months ago.

When Brandon Beane left for Buffalo, Gettleman lost a key member of his team who had performed many day-to-day functions of a GM, a role that allowed Gettleman to focus on roster building. In many ways, the fallout appeared similar to some of the stories that came out of Kansas City after the Chiefs parted with GM John Dorsey.

Like Dorsey, Gettleman's expertise is as a talent evaluator. Despite some misses, he batted well over .500 in the draft, and he did a tremendous job filling in pieces around the spine of a roster built by previous GM Marty Hurney. But Gettleman was a dyed-in-the-wool scout/general manager who had little experience managing people.

But if there was a final straw, it likely happened over the past few weeks.

Gettleman deserves a ton of credit for making tough decisions that many in his chair wouldn’t have made. Cutting Steve Smith, while messy, ended up working out for both sides. So did the DeAngelo Williams release. And to his credit, Richardson didn’t meddle. He gave his top football guy the rope to make those and a handful of other controversial calls. But no GM has unlimited rope.

Odds are Gettleman further alienated key veterans by how he handled extension requests this summer from Greg Olsen and Thomas Davis. It’s not hard to imagine that Gettleman’s blunt approach was irksome to Richardson, especially if it involved Davis. No player has exemplified what he wants his franchise to represent more than 13-year veteran. So when Gettleman and Davis were unable to get on the same page about how and when to get a deal done, Gettleman ran out of rope.

I’ve often told Gettleman I'd never want to be in his chair. NFL GMs have impossible jobs that rarely end well. On the surface, this decision seems sudden, but such is life in an unpredictable business where oftentimes things just don’t work out.

And first move: 'The Blind Side' is out :o

Quote
Panthers release Michael Oher
Veteran tackle out after two seasons

ESPN's Field Yates reported Thursday that the Carolina Panthers have released veteran tackle Michael Oher.

Oher, who joined the team prior to the 2015 season, enjoyed a phenomenal season in 2015 where he allowed a career-low four sacks, but missed the majority of the 2016 season with a concussion. Presently, he remains in the league's concussion protocol.

Oher's release comes two days after he defended former Panthers GM Dave Gettleman on Twitter, saying that Gettleman "has constantly checked on my well being, condition, and state of mind" and "really cares about you as a person". He also took a swipe at those within the organization who were happy Gettleman was gone, saying "karma's a MF".

Oher was originally drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in 2009, and won Super Bowl XLVII with the team. Prior to his stint with the Panthers, Oher also played for the Tennessee Titans in 2014.

The Patriots seem to be in a bit of disarray.. :o

Patriots are releasing DE Kony Ealy. The team has been disappointed in his development as he transitioned into a new defensive system.
New England acquired Ealy this offseason in a trade with Carolina that sent the Panthers the Patriots 2nd-round pick in exchange for Ealy and a 3rd-round pick.

And Julian Edelman is done for the season with a torn ACL.

It'll be interesting to see how beatable the Patriots are this season..

Wow this is a huge surprise for us :o
Quote
Panthers surprisingly release Joe Webb
Veteran quarterback Joe Webb is now a free agent.

Those hoping the Carolina Panthers were going to elevate Joe Webb to backup quarterback and demote Derek Anderson will be vastly disappointed in what the team did Saturday morning.

Carolina has elected to keep only two quarterbacks, releasing Webb and fourth-string quarterback Garrett Gilbert, per Bill Voth of the team's official site.

Webb's departure comes as a surprise, especially considering his value to the team both on special teams and at quarterback, but clearly the Panthers believe keeping a third quarterback isn't as important as holding onto another player at another position.

Gilbert could make a return to the Panthers' practice squad if he clears waivers.

Carolina will head into the season with only Cam Newton and Derek Anderson as quarterbacks on the 53-man roster. Newton is coming off shoulder surgery to repair a partially-torn rotator cuff, but is expected to be ready for the team's season opener at San Francisco on Sept. 10.

Anderson struggled through the preseason, but his track record won him the backup quarterback job.

Joe Webb signs with Buffalo Bills

Joe Webb has found his new NFL home.

The former Panthers and Vikings quarterback has signed with the Buffalo Bills, the team has announced.

Webb was released by the Panthers on Saturday during the team's final roster cut-down.

Buffalo waived safety Colt Anderson to make room for Webb on the 53-man roster. The Bills now have Tyrod Taylor, Nathan Peterman, TJ Yates and Webb all on their roster.

Webb will likely play special teams along with his QB duty. He's reunited with former Panthers assistant Sean McDermott, who's now the head coach with the Bills, and general manager Brandon Beane.

What the heck does this mean?  My best guess is that it just means that the Colts won the game.

Wanted to make a quick trip downtown to drop off something at the office.  I like to do this on weekends because I can park right next to the building instead of 3 blocks away like I have to on work days.  Anyway, couldn't do it because there were no spots.  All the downtown parking was swallowed up by a Colts game.  It's kind of funny that Lucas Oil Stadium does not appear to have their own parking lot.

Anyway, go Browns!

Typical Eagles Giants game, crazy twists and turns.  It was all Eagles for 3 quarters with the eagles up by 2 touchdowns, then the Giants score 3 times in a row, Eagles tie it back up and then come back to win with 1 second left on a 61 yard field goal.

Rumor has it that the Panthers are getting concerned that quarterback Cam Newton is physically breaking down. If Newton continues to show signs of his body breaking down, Panthers may consider looking at other quarterback prospects.
Panthers have an option after next season which could save them 35 million.

Titans Sign Terrible QB Brandon Weeden Over Colin Kaepernick:

Brandon Weeden is a terrible quarterback.  If you don’t think so, I’d hate to break it to you, but you don’t know much about football.

After being drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft, Weeden went on to play just five season with three different teams (Browns, Cowboys and Texans), before being cut by Houston before the 2017 season.  In 34 career appearances (25 starts), the 33-year-old has complied 31 touchdowns, 30 interceptions, a completion percentage of 57.9%, and a 76.0 quarterback rating.

Those are bad numbers.  Like, Brock Osweiler bad.  By comparison, Osweiler has 26 touchdowns, 22 interceptions, a 59.9 completion percentage, and a 77.4 quarterback rating in 36 career games (21 starts).

So yeah, Weeden sucks.  But with Marcus Mariota questionable for Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins (hamstring), the Tennessee Titans are still expected to sign Weeden to back up Matt Cassel in case Mariota can’t go.

Were there better options available for the Titans?  Many people seem to think so, and the name that’s been coming up the most is Colin Kaepernick.

Sure, Weeden could end up getting cut by the weekend if Mariota is deemed healthy enough to play.  And maybe the Titans didn’t want to bother signing Kaepernick if they knew they’d probably be getting rid of him in a few days (or a week, max).

I can't believe he's served 9 years for his 2008 conviction.  Where does the time go?

I just read that his mid-90s murder trial lasted 11 months.  That can't be right.  I am positive it lasted AT LEAST 8 years.

Yeah, the teams seem pretty evenly matched, slight advantage to the home team I guess, your Panthers didn't have to travel on a short week.  At least the Eagles had a blowout Sunday so they had a lot of 3rd stringers in at the end of the game.

I saw a different article about that, the dude and his girlfriend were standing the entire game blocking the view of the older guy sitting behind them, then the dud sucker punched the older guy to shut him up.

Eagles haven't had too many issues like that since the new stadium was built, but back in the days of the Vet it got so bad for a few years they actually had a judge in a room to deal with all the fans being arrested (it was called Eagle's Court).

Here's an article about it:

Since they were forced to use the overhead camera that they move around on wires I thought it made the coverage more interesting.  I wonder if that is part of the reason ratings are down, the cameras being so high up and so far away making things look more boring due to telephoto compression?  The camera work last night made the boring plays much more interesting.

It was a boring game, but seeing plays live using the skycam was really interesting, getting a quarterback type view at the start of the play and then the camera followed the action, it was cool.

Panthers add Roberto Aguayo to practice squad

Posted 3 hours ago

CHARLOTTE – With kicker Graham Gano dealing with knee soreness, the Panthers added Roberto Aguayo to the practice squad in place of wide receiver Austin Duke.

The division rival Buccaneers – Carolina’s next opponent – traded up to select Aguayo out of Florida State in the second round of the 2016 draft. He converted 22-of-31 field goal attempts and missed two extra points during a tumultuous rookie season.

Tampa Bay released Aguayo during his second training camp. He spent the rest of the preseason with the Bears and was released before the start of the regular season.
Um... Really ???

Had no interest in that game so didn't watch, sounds like it was a terrible game.

There has been talk about quarterbacks scamming the system a bit, not really fair to go into a slide when the defender has already started his tackle.  But it does seem like even if the guy couldn't pull up at least change his angle to avoid a direct hit to the head, I think that hit would have been flagged even if it wasn't a QB running.

Tomorrow will be a test for the Eagles to see if they really are a good team now, they should destroy the 49ers, last few years this is the type of game they would play down to the level of the opponent and probably lose.

I do hear that Ajayi has been a bit of a problem in the locker room, but they said the same stuff about Blunt and he has not been a problem.  Matter of fact there have not been any "personality" issues with anyone on the Eagles since they got rid of McCoy, no reports of issues between players or off the field issues in the news, kind of odd for a Philly team.

Carolina Panthers trade Kelvin Benjamin to Buffalo Bills
The Carolina Panthers and Buffalo Bills executed a shocking trade just before the NFL Trade Deadline.

The Carolina Panthers have traded away star wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin to the Buffalo Bills just before the end of the NFL's Tuesday trading deadline in return for Buffalo's third and seventh-round picks in the 2018 draft.

The news comes as a major surprise, especially with Carolina struggling with depth at wide receiver. Benjamin just caught his second touchdown of the season in Sunday's 17-3 win over Tampa Bay. He has 32 receptions for 475 yards receiving this season.

The move is interim general manager Marty Hurney's first significant blockbuster trade since taking over for fired GM Dave Gettleman just before training camp began.

The Panthers previously picked up their fifth-year rookie contract option on Benjamin this past offseason, indicating they were comfortable with his future. After tearing his ACL and missing the 2015 season, Benjamin had an up-and-down 2016, catching 63 passes for 941 yards and seven touchdowns.

The former first-round draft pick out of Florida State caught 73 passes for 1,008 yards and nine touchdowns as a rookie in 2014.

With the trade, Benjamin is reunited with Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane in Buffalo.

Devin Funchess (33 catches, 357 yards, three touchdowns in 2017) will take over as the Panthers' top receiver following the trade of Benjamin. Carolina's other options at receiver include Russell Shepard, Curtis Samuel and Kaelin Clay. Rookie running back Christian McCaffrey leads the team in receptions.

Well, Benjamin hasn't met expectations overall..
He was out with a season ending injury the entire run up to SuperBowl 50 and then was overweight during this past off season so in a way I think they're making room for another wide receiver to step up and make a difference for the team is all I can think of.. :-\

Unfortunately, the Browns never actually completed their trade for McCarron because according to Schefter, the Browns failed to notify the NFL before the 4 p.m. ET deadline. The Bengals reported the trade. The Browns did not.

Everyone got the NFC South wrong. According to many—and I am very much included in that many—this was going to be the season the Bucs took the next step. New Orleans would be on life support. Atlanta had all its pieces still in place from a Super Bowl season and a young defense getting older. And Carolina’s experimental offense probably wouldn’t work out.

About that.

At 4–4 the Falcons remain hungover from February. The Bucs’ season is done at 2–6. The Saints are suddenly a juggarnat and the Panthers have never missed the playoffs after beginning the season with at least six wins in the first nine games. Goes to show you what we know.

It was close at halftime, but a route in the second half.

Eagles lose their kicker in the 2nd quarter, no field goal attempts or extra point tries, they needed to go for it on 4th down and go for 2.  That seemed to work out great, they got touchdowns and 2 point conversions a couple of times when they might have settled for field goals.

According to stats from last nights game, Dak’s Passer Rating vs Eagles Would’ve Been Higher If He Threw Every Pass Straight Into The Ground
Quote
Throwing every pass an incomplete would have resulted in a 39.6 rating, the staple metric achieved by calculated using a player’s passing attempts, completions, yards, touchdowns, and interceptions. Prescott finished with a passer rating of 30.4.

Thinking about that rout of the cowchips there is something that has happened several times this season that I haven't seen before, at least not consistently.  When the momentum shifts to the other team the Eagles just go and take it back, it was so obvious in the middle of the first half Sunday night that the momentum had shifted big time, but then the Eagles took it back and ended up scoring 30 unanswered points....

And the game last night, had it on in the background, Falcons tried real hard to give the game to the Seahawks but bad play calls and awful clock management at the end of each half cost them.  It made the game interesting but it wasn't great play by either team.

And Chip Kelly is back coaching college ball (at UCLA).

He had zero ability to manage adult players, and never took any responsibility for any mistakes, always blaming failure on "execution" (in other words it was always the players fault).   I'm sure he will do fine back where the players tend to treat the coach as a god.

The Browns number is just hilarious, especially since they could have been the team to draft Carson Wentz.  It must be awful for fans in Cleveland seeing what Wentz is doing in Philly, the geniuses in the Browns head office said Wentz wouldn't be a top 20 QB, they obviously have no idea how to evaluate players.

Surprising to hear for the once two time Superbowl champion with the team performing 2-9 so far this season they are looking more like the Cleveland Browns than that of their former glory. Speaking of the Brownies looks like they are going for some kind of record this season going 0-11 as of this week.

Carson made some badly timed mistakes, it should have been a tie game.  It had the feel of a playoff game, so hopefully this will teach him a few things and he will do better when they are in the playoffs.  Eagles only need to win one more or cowchips lose one more to clinch the division, but they do need to keep the intensity up if they want home field in the playoffs.

I still don't get that stupid rule where a fumble out of the end zone is treated different than a fumble out of bounds, we would have had the ball on the 1 but instead it's a turnover.

I turned that game on at the end just in time to see all the stupid stuff that cost the Saints the game.

Really stupid throw into the endzone when the Saints were in field goal range, Falcons get an interception in the endzone with almost 2 minutes left.  So all the Saints have to do is stop them from getting a first down to get the ball back with 30 seconds or so left, they do that twice but the Saints coach gets mad at the officials and runs out to them trying to call a timeout and gets flagged, giving the Falcons a first down that ends the game.

The Carolina Panthers announced on Friday that the team is investigating team owner and founder Jerry Richardson for workplace misconduct.

Richardson, who has owned the team since it began play as an NFL expansion franchise in the 1995 season and led the ownership group that brought professional football to the Carolinas, is 81.

The investigation will be conducted by Quinn Emanuel Urquhart and Sullivan, LLP, an international law firm. It will also be overseen by Erskine Bowles, a limited owner with the team and a former White House Chief of Staff.

Details emerge from the Jerry Richardson ongoing investigation and they aren't pretty..
Quote
Richardson, 81, reportedly made multiple inappropriate comment to women employees on 'Jeans Day,' when team workers were allowed to wear denim on Fridays to work. Here are some excerpts from the SI MMQB story.

Friday was Jeans Day, when most staffers at the Carolina Panthers team offices would wear denim to work. The female employees knew what that meant. As the team’s owner, Jerry Richardson, made his rounds on the way to his spacious office, he would ask women to turn around so he could admire their backsides. Then, in his rolling Southern drawl, he’d offer comment, drawing from a store of one-liners he’d recycle each week. Among those in heaviest rotation: "Show me how you wiggle to get those jeans up. I bet you had to lay down on your bed to fit into those jeans. Did you step into those jeans or did you have to jump into them?"

    ....

Richardson’s conduct was treated as something of a running office joke, according to multiple former Panthers team employees, all of whom spoke on the condition of anonymity out of fear of retaliation. Male employees would knowingly ask the women whether the Carolina owner had noticed them that day. Women subjected to Richardson’s comments would often dismiss them with a sheepish wave of a hand. “No one ever said anything, at least not that I heard,” says one former Panthers employee. “He was the boss. It was [viewed] more of a creepy-old-man thing than a threat.”

    ....

During its own investigation in the weeks prior, SI learned that on multiple occasions when Richardson’s conduct has triggered complaints—for sexual harassment against female employees and for directing a racial slur at an African American employee—he has taken a leaf from a playbook he’s deployed in the past: Confidential settlements were reached and payments were made to complainants, accompanied by non-disclosure and non-disparagement clauses designed to shield the owner and the organization from further liability and damaging publicity.
This could very well cost him ownership of the Carolina Panthers team :-[

That overturned touchdown in the Steelers game is the one big drawback of instant replay, a great looking play nullified by 5 minutes of using slow motion to look for movement of the ball.   Then Big Ben makes that terrible decision to throw to a well covered guy, terrible way for the game to end.

Was just reading that Bank Of America probably has enough say to keep the Panthers from moving, they will probably be the ones putting together a bunch of buyers so they get to keep the stadium with their name on it.

Meaningless game for the Eagles, usually playing the cowchips would be a big game, just hope any starters that play don't get hurt.

The way they have played the last few games I don't see them going far in the playoffs against teams that are peaking now, but maybe they will step up, all the time off will probably not help.  At least all the games are at home.

I thought it was the late game today, I want to go over to NJ but the roads around the stadium are gridlocked now, guess I'll have to wait until the game starts.

Bills clinch first playoff berth since '99 with Ravens loss

The Buffalo Bills are back in the postseason, improbably.

Buffalo snuck into the sixth seed on Sunday, thanks to their 22-16 win over the Miami Dolphins and Cincinnati's late 31-27 win over the Baltimore Ravens. Bengals receiver Tyler Boyd's 49-yard touchdown catch-and-run with 44 seconds left knocked Baltimore out of the postseason and broke Buffalo's playoff curse.

This is Buffalo's first postseason appearance since 1999.

The Bills will take on the third-seeded Jacksonville Jaguars at EverBank Field on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. Whether they will have running back LeSean McCoy available is not yet known. McCoy suffered a sprained ankle during Buffalo's win in Miami. While his X-ray results were negative, his status for next week is unclear. Buffalo will need all the firepower it can muster to take down Jacksonville's league-best defense.

Buffalo's march to the postseason was unexpected to say the least. At one point, first-year coach Sean McDermott benched starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor for rookie Nathan Peterman; five Chargers interceptions later, McDermott reversed course, but the Bills' season seemed lost. After that defeat to Los Angeles, though, Buffalo rattled off four wins in their final six games, losing only to the New England Patriots, twice.

Now, thanks to a miracle run in Baltimore from a man named Boyd, Buffalo has a chance to make their own improbable run in the postseason.

Former Panthers head coach Jon Fox has been fired by the Bears..
Chuck Pagano has been fired by the Colts.
Broncos fire head coach Vance Joseph
Lions fire HC Jim Caldwell
& don't forget Ben McAdoo who didn't make it to the end of the season..

I don't know why the Browns don't try to snag on one of these available former HC's ???

I didn't see the Chiefs game, but it sounds like classic Andy Reid, good plan going in, unable to adjust and fizzling out at the end.  Watched it happen many times in his last several years with the Eagles.

Did watch the Falcons beat the Rams, so it will be Atlanta in Philly next week.  If the Falcons defense plays like they did against the Rams Nick Foles is going to be in trouble.

Eagles down by one at the half, the 2 weeks off had them come out kind of rusty the first quarter, making mistakes.

And a terrible personal foul call basically gave the Falcons their touchdown.

That Vikings victory was crazy.  Vikings go ahead, Saints go ahead, last chance hail Mary and a TD!  Vikings win with no time left.

Apparently gamblers in Vegas are really upset that they didn't kick the extra point after the hail Mary, it was pandemonium on the field, no way to get the players back out to kick a meaningless extra point.

Edit:  I didn't see it but apparently they did drag the players back out onto the field 20 minutes later and the Vikings took a knee, so the +5.5 point spread doesn't get beat and people that bet on the Vikings lose without that extra point, I think?

I've now seen a bunch of slowmo shots of that catch, it's pretty obvious the defender put his head down and thought the ball was going to the guy closer to the sideline and went for that guy.  That would be the more obvious play, to get the ball out of bounds in field goal range with a few seconds left, if that guy had caught the ball the game would have been over, instead it went to the guy a yard farther away from the sideline.  Big mistake not to play the ball all the way.

Vikings vs. Eagles next Sunday night, should be a hell of a game...

The parking lots around the stadium were full when I drove by at 2, and the smell of all the grills going was pretty good.

Coming back just now they had closed the ramps from the highway and 95 was backed up but I avoided that by going through the city north of the stadium area and getting on 95 by the airport.

So glad they had the radio synced up to the TV, so I didn't hear any of that, I like Al but Cris is always a whiner.

The calls by Merrill Reese were great.

The one he took several steps after the catch, that makes him a runner so crossing the plane was all he had to do.  Just because the NFL made a bad call in the Steelers game doesn't mean that becomes the new rule.

Saw a car on it's side on the news, things are getting rowdy in Philly.

Looking at the news it seems some store windows were smashed but no reports of looting.
A few cars tipped over.
Several traffic light poles snapped off from people climbing on them and a report of one person hurt from that.
And people climbing on awnings in front of hotels caused at least one collapse but no reports of people hurt from that.

Rumor is the parade will be Wednesday, but the weather is going to be terrible Tuesday-Thursday so who knows.  When the Phillies won the world series they say 2 million people were at that parade, Eagles parade is likely to be much bigger.

Looks like the bookies in Las Vegas were not too happy for lots of reasons, the Eagles winning, and all the records that were set.  Very cool that the odds of Foles making a touchdown were 8:1, they lost on that...

I didn't realize how much more of a football town Philly is until the parade stuff got into full gear.  People expecting paid time off, wanting all the schools and colleges to close.  It was not that crazy when the Phillies won the world series...

No one around here can get enough of this video.  And it was the son of one of the local broadcasters (Ray Didinger) working for NFL films that had the job of tracking Foles and getting his video and audio, so extra special.

Check out near the end one of the players tells Foles something like "you've got more catches than Tom does".

So there are going to be 35 bars along the parade route that got shipments of free bud lite, like a hundred+ cases each, each bar will have a person from bud handing out tokens for a free beer.

Yeah, that's what a huge crowd of amped up football fans needs, free beer...  ::)

Jimmy G just got paid!

The 49ers agreed to terms on a five-year contract with Jimmy Garoppolo worth $137.5 million. The deal is the largest in NFL history on an average-per-year basis.
Garoppolo's deal will average $27.5 million.

Hardly anyone at work today.

Chase Utley is off the hook now when people talk about dropping the f-bomb on live TV, Jason Kelce did it a bunch of times in his crazy speech at the podium.

All the rumors about celebrities showing up were false, only the team on the steps of the Art Museum after the parade.

He was our former backup QB for the Buffalo Bills and engineered the Greatest comeback in NFL History over the Houston Oilers back in January 1993, backup quarterback Frank Reich lead the Buffalo Bills to a 41-38 overtime victory 8)

Hopefully Doug can find a good replacement, he and Howey have been doing a good job in that department the last 2 years.

Doug pretty much runs the offense, so it won't change the play calling.

Hmm..
There's some chatter going around that the Bills could go after Foles in a trade :o
Quote
There are aspects of a Foles-to-Buffalo trade that make sense. His $7.6 million cap number in 2018 would offer a discount over Tyrod Taylor and his $18.08 million cap number, especially if the Bills moved Taylor before his $6 million roster bonus becomes due March 16. Foles would give the Bills a better shot at contending in 2018 than Taylor, whose statistics have declined each of his three seasons with the Bills. The short-term financial commitment to Foles on essentially a one-year deal also would give the Bills flexibility to draft a quarterback in 2018 and transition away from Foles in 2019.

However, the biggest obstacle to any deal would be the cost. The Eagles are in a position of strength where they are not simply going to give Foles away for a mid- to late-round draft selection. It likely will take an early-round pick for the Bills to pry Foles away from Philadelphia, which eats into the stash of draft selections (five in the first three rounds) that general manager Brandon Beane has amassed potentially to trade up in the draft for a quarterback. Giving up an early-round pick for Foles and then allowing him to walk away in free agency next offseason could be viewed as a waste.

This is going to be the thing that all teams will have to deal with if they want to trade for Foles, Eagles are not going to let him go unless it's a very sweet deal, how many teams are willing to make a sweet deal for a guy that is a free agent next year?

Cleveland's wheeling and dealing Friday didn't end with the impending trade for Jarvis Landry.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported the Browns are also slated to trade for Buffalo Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor. Cleveland will send a third-round pick (No. 65 overall) to the Bills in exchange for the quarterback.

ESPN first reported the news.

The trade cannot become official until 4 p.m. ET on March 14.
