I am so out of the loop on watching broadcast television.

How the hell do you tune to a station that is channel 10.3??

You need a digital antenna on your (Hopefully digital by now) TV. Digital broadcast signals go up in 10ths.

The tricky part for me when I was first tuning into Retro TV is my TV would only let me add channels if it found them during a scan, and the signal for Retro TV was a bit spotty. So I had to keep moving the antenna and rescanning until it figured out it was there.

Fortunately for me, Comet is actually carried by my cable company, so I can tune in with my cable box and DVR it if I want. Having to watch TV while it's actually on is so '80s. :^)

I got rid of cable a while ago. What I am curious about with Comet is what episodes are they going to air? Some real curiosity there. They have an episode guide on thier site:

http://www.comettv.com/episode-guide/Mystery+Science+Theater+3000/184037/Season-1/

If you look for season 1 they are missing a few episodes. So is this just an incomplete episode guide or is it a guide to what they will be showing?

If you look at later seasons they are listings for Godzilla movies... Amazing Colossal Man, Danger Diabolik!!  If these in fact are episodes they are going to show I will get a TV tuner for my computer so I can get modern broadcast rips of the unreleased shows!!

On Sept 4th according to the site the first two episodes are Manos and Teenagers from Space....

If they are only going to show the same episodes that are out on DVD then it really is a not a big deal to me.

I did send a message to their facebook page asking about it. We will see how they answer!

I don't know much about Comet.  I assume its a retro sci-fi channel?

Are they going to show new episodes or only seasons 1-10?

Seems like just the ones from the previous Seasons.

Yep, older scifi movies and Stargate and Outer Limits episodes.

My understanding is only Netflix gets Season 11. At first, anyway. Maybe there's a time frame where it can be syndicated.

So this is the message I sent Comet TV on facebook:

Quote
On your website you have an episode guide to MST3K... There are some titles missing (a couple mistakes too). Is this just supposed to be an episode guide to the show or is it a list of episodes you will be able to show?  There are some gems on there that are not available on DVD. You will be asked this question a hundred times if you haven't been asked already...

This was the response:

Quote
Ian, Thanks for you message. The schedule shows the episodes we will be airing. You can click on each title for details on that episode. Thanks for watching COMET!

So I am not sure they understood what I was asking or not. I will be checking the schedule often to see what they air.

My DVR confirms Manos and Teenagers from Outer Space as the first 2.

Now the guide is off the site.   Oh well. Probably just the all the same titles that are easily available to buy. Was hoping for some gems.

Next week it is Attack of the Giant Leeches and Wild World of Batwoman.

They need to talk to the Sci-Fi Channel to figure out how to move the logo bug to the left side of the screen.

"Manos" just started 8-10 on Comet.

Well Comet and MST3K are obviously a match made in heaven, but they made the super-weird choice to extend the second episode to 3 hours and inflate it with a full extra hour of commercials. I thought it was an error but it matches the schedule on my DVR and it looks like next week's going to do the same thing with Wild World of Batwoman (Which is hard enough to watch WITHOUT 15-minute long commercial breaks). My guess is they figure everyone's going to be DVRing it anyway, and can skip those commercials, so why not sell an extra hour of commercial time? Sucks when you're watching live, though.

Agreed, but I'm from Canada where MST3k never aired.  Better to have it that was then not have it at all.  And I haven't heard of Comet before (is it an offshoot of Syfy, a la Cartoon Network and Boomerang or is it it's own entity?) so I'm not too surprised that it might just make more financial sense for them.  But yeah, that seems pretty ridiculous.  Is it on late at night?  Because I can't imagine that kind of nonsense happening in prime time.

Yeah, they air 2 episodes a night. The first episode airs around 9ish here, and is the standard commercial to show ratio. The second comes on at 11 (Well, 11:30 after a half hour of commercials) and runs 'til 1 AM.

Comet's a separate entity from Syfy, but feels a lot like that network did in its glory days. They air a lot of movies and programming that would feel right at home on MST3K.

I watched "Manos" with only regular commercials until 10, but then like Pak said they had "Teenagers from Outer Space" only AFTER a half hour of commercials.  It ran an extra hour, so I assume they had another half hour of commercials at the end (I'm old, can't stay up that late).  It would be crazy to have a half hour in the middle of the show.

One thing I DID notice, they said that they had Internet streaming, so for those folks that don't have Comet on Dish or with their local providers...

Anyways, the schedule looks to currently be 2 episodes Sunday nights 8pm to 1am.  If they do what they did last Sunday you can pretty much watch a normal episode 8-10.

I only knew about Comet because the wrestling promotion Ring Of Honor announced they were airing there. Actually I have seen some decent older films on it I've seen for the first time. Burn Witch, Burn. The Raven. Pit and the Pendulem. There is definitely some rifftrax fodder on there as well.

I'm just happy to see them airing anywhere on TV again. ANy exposure is good exposure.

This upcoming Sunday, October 16, it's Robot Holocaust from 8 - 10:15 P.M. Eastern, followed by "Manos" The Hands of Fate from 10:15 P.M. - 12:30 A.M. Eastern.

An hour of the cult classic series Johnny Sokko and His Flying Robot follows from 12:30 - 1:30 A.M. Eastern.

And I haven't heard of Comet before (is it an offshoot of Syfy, a la Cartoon Network and Boomerang or is it it's own entity?)

Comet TV is a partnership between Sinclair Broadcasting and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.  That is the main reason why the majority of the programming is television series and movies from M-G-M.  Just remember, you are also getting movies from American International Pictures since M-G-M owns the rights to films from A.I.P., so rejoicing is in order there.

And thanks to me looking for MST3K, I discovered that, due to being owned by Sinclair, Ring of Honor wrestling is shown every Thursday morning at 1 am.

So once again MST3K is on a sci fi oriented network and that also shows pro wrestling.

It's showing I should be getting Comet TV on 2 different digital antenna channels but I can't get it it on either one for some reason :'(

Some of those digital antenna stations are really finicky. I don't get Retro TV unless the weather's clear and the Antennas are pointed in exactly the right directions.

It looks like one station is in Hickory, NC (over 77 miles to the north) and Columbia, SC (about 70 miles to the south) so I guess they're out of range of my antenna :'(

Just figured out I get Comet TV. While they're not going to show anything I don't already have via DVD, I've been watching a lot of episodes via Pluto TV lately as I like being somewhat surprised at what episode is coming next and the commercial breaks are sometimes nice. Will likely start watching Comet TV on Sunday nights when nothing else is on.

Incidentally, Comet is now the only broadcast home of MST3K. Retro TV dropped it from their lineup at some point.

*Checks* Nope. Still in the lower right corner. It clears Crow as long as he doesn't lean over, but it's there.

Watched Eegah last night on Comet. Station logo didn't bother me, but boy there sure were some long commercial breaks. 2 hours 15 minutes with commercials. Didn't bother starting Red Zone Cuba as it was going to run later than I wanted to stay up. Really want to support Comet for showing MST3K, but it would be a lot easier to do with a normal amount of commercials.

MST3K Marathon on Comet on Super Bowl Sunday.

Last of the Wild Horses
Robot Holocaust
Eegah
Night of the Blood Beast
Manos: The Hands of Fate
Hopefully not an additional 3 hours of commercials!

Well Fudge.. Elevated my digital antenna about 6 feet atop my roof to get over my chimney thinking maybe that was blocking the signal but Nope..
Still have a blank screen on the designated channel (14-3 out of Hickory, NC)
My antenna is rated at 150 miles and still nothing :( I guess their transmitter is not broadcasting a strong enough signal so I'm still SoL :-[
