When three hillbillies on their way to Nashville take a detour and end up in a haunted house, most critics stop reading after that sentence and immediately assign the movie whatever grade is several grades lower than the lowest grade they’ve ever given out.

Shamelessly cashing in on the Hillbillly Craze of ‘67, Hillbillys in a Haunted House finally gave country music fans what they had long been demanding: a movie where John Carradine interacts with a sweaty guy in a gorilla suit and is interrupted by the occasional hootenanny. It’s sort of like a country fried Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band with the Bee Gees replaced by the cast of Scooby Doo, but not that dignified.

Warning: Contains extreme closeups of Lon Chaney Jr, the name “Ferlin Husky,” and misspelled words in the movie's own title.

I think they prefer to be called "Sons of the Soil."

Yikes...5 minutes into this and while I'm not a fan of current popular country music, I had forgotten what passed for popular country in the late 60s...about the most annoying mist unlistenable garbage there ever was.

I thought the female lead was called "Boobs" the first half dozen times they said her name.

Wait, her name *wasn't* Boobs?

Guys, the original film was an hour and twenty five minutes long. Rifftrax saved us from some REALLY boring scenes.

I wonder if rifftrax edited it, or that's a version they got? I had no idea rifftrax edited the films they released...

I think that's the misspelling mentioned in the riff.

Man, all those songs!  Wow!  :gouge:

They do it seems. Makes sense if there isn't funny stuff or over the top violence or nudity. In a recent interview Bill claimed they edited Stone Cold but I did my own HD mix with thier audio and my HD file and it all synced fine. So maybe they were going to edit it and forgot? Or Bill confused it with a different movie?

I think there are certain times they aren't allowed to edit (Starship Troopers, for example) but if the rights owner lets them they occasionally do, especially recently. Conor tweeted a screencap of a facebook post where someone was complaining about them editing nudity out of Arachnia.

That's silly. I'm not a fan of editing movies, but I can certainly still enjoy Samurai Cop without Robert Z'Dar makin' it with some topless woman during the riff. Of course, to me, getting bent out of shape about seeing a topless woman is silly too. Different strokes, I guess. Maybe strokes wasn't the right term to use.

Likely talking about Samurai Cop; it had some significant edits most notably a sex scene between Z'Dar and the red-haired henchwoman.  We sort of missed out and were spared with that edit, but it was a rather gratuitous scene that I don't think they could have riffed much on considering the scene is nearly pornographic and not nearly as "tame" as the other sex scenes in the movie.

Still, Z'Dar having sex you'd think would open it up to some strong riffing.

RiffTrax does edit their vods in order to keep them at a PG-13 level of content, so that everyone can watch the films.  There are times where editing the films can actually hurt the pacing and / or plot of the film so they leave those scenes intact, as in the case of The Sword and the Sorcerer, where nudity is present in a scene that couldn't be cut due to being part of a chase scene, and another featuring plot development, where plans were made in a bordello that featured nudity but that wasn't cut due to being important to the plot.

For RiffTrax Live: Starship Troopers, they distracted us from the nudity with the Gorilla Gram.

Other edits I noticed for nudity was the love scene in Samurai Cop and a female biker flashing her boobs in Miami Connection.

The reason that Hillbillys in a Haunted House was edited was because of musical scenes that they felt wasn't needed.

But, by the way, did our boys know that the filmmakers of The Sword and the Sorcerer actually shot television versions of those scenes without nudity in them so that those scenes could be shown on television?

Some titles are edited. Not all, not even a very large percentage. It is usually for showing sexual assault, having gratuitous nudity, or having horrible music.

Well if horrible music is a criteria, there goes Rollergator. :^)

Oh, what's horrible about endless acoustic guitar noodling?
