Your RiffTrax "Just the Jokes!" will now be synced automatically!

Coming in the next few days, RiffTrax is launching iOS and Android apps which will AUTOMATICALLY sync your RiffTrax "Just the Jokes!" commentaries with your movies like Twilight, Harry Potter and Star Wars! Just hit play on your phone or tablet and the app listens for the movie and automatically syncs everything, and keeps it synced. It will work with your TV, computer, DVDs, Blu-rays, Netflix, Amazon Video and other streams - even in a movie theater!

It's magic! Just like Shazam, but for movies!

We’ve been waiting nine years for this type of technology and it’s almost here. Our beta launch is just a few days away. The app will be completely FREE, AND it will have all six Star Wars movies pre-loaded into it for FREE! If you want to be the first to check it out, just enter your email address below, and we’ll let you know as soon as it's ready.

Thanks - we can't wait for you to try it!

Mike, Kevin, Bill and the RiffTrax Crew

I would be amazed if Harry Potter 8 didn't get released about the same time.

Those who cry about the lack of MP3 riffs - if this is successful, I'll wager it means the return of them!

During the live show, they were very strongly hinting at "being able to listen to a riff in a theater" with this app "although they couldn't think of anything in the theater soon that might qualify"  before making a reference to The Force Awakens. I'd be surprised if that happened, but Star Wars riffs sell really well, so who knows?

I assume this isn't going to have an NTSC limitation?

Wait, what was the 'Force Awakens' reference? Because they might have been referring to the fact that many theatres are going to show the original Star Wars films before TFA, and they are preloaded on the app...

That makes a lot more sense.

I definitely got the idea that they were going to have a riff of The Force Awakens while it's in theaters. And while they do have a good relationship with studios in the last few years, have they done much with Disney? Not to mention that it's a hell of a big thing for them to have access to a huge tentpole movie a month or so in advance to write riffs for. Is the final cut even done a month in advance of release? I always thought the editors and directors were tweaking things to last minute.

I seem to recall them writing some of the riffs in the theater back in the day so they could have an MP3 ready for DVD release day.

Actually, I was very intrigued by this announcement, not only because I love the idea of the system automatically syncing the movies, but of what this could mean for the people who post up iRiffs and such, since most of those ARE audio only tracks.  Would there be a way, when that service comes back in full, to be able to submit items to work with this app?  I'm guessing there's a bit of "pre-work" to do to get it running properly, but I think syncing issues in general are the biggest reasons the mp3s are less popular than the VODs, and getting that hurdle out of the way would be fantastic for practically everyone in the world.

And no, I wouldn't expect the Rifftrax crew to do all the work to have the iRiff work properly.  I'm sure most of the people who submit them are tech-savvy enough to get them working properly on their own to make them compatible.

So that's how it's going to work, the device listens for cues from the movie soundtrack, very cool.

I'm wondering if we'll be able to watch VODs from this app as well.  I hope so, but the syncing thing is super awesome either way.  Hopefully this means more MP3 trax in the future.

Fantastic.  They announced this at the RTL special last night.  Now I can finally get my Cpt. America movie to properly sync!

The downside to Rifftrax in a theater:

It's a big dramatic moment in a big movie. "WHY!?" screams the main character. "Please don't die on me!" The audience is in tears. Rifftrax cracks a joke that only I can hear and I laugh and laugh and everyone else just glares at me...

It happens.  I once told a joke in the middle of Chronicles of Riddick to a friend of mine and he broke out laughing hysterically.  Everyone in the theater wondered why.

Wasn't a big moment, wasn't dramatic, but everyone recovered just fine.  And then you can tell everybody why you were laughing afterwards.

I honestly won't being using it (I enjoy syncing and remuxing my own MKV files to drop into Plex), but this is still REALLY cool.

There's just no way that Rifftrax would get sufficient access to TFA to write a full rifftrax for it before it hits the cinemas.  That's a world of difference from a one off preview viewing for a review, that's like 9 screener copies in the wild.

Same here. I use a Raspberry Pi 2 with Plex Media Server, and push my Rifftrax library from an external 3TB drive to my Amazon Fire TV with Plex Client installed.

They could just buy tickets to watch the movie over and over while hammering out the script.

Which would be a crazy amount of work for a sub par product rushed out. Guess we will see.

I think I'd only want to take riffs into the theater to listen to if it was a pretty sparsely populated showing, people might not appreciate me laughing my head off during a packed screening of The Force Awakens or something like that.

I dunno. Depends how many viewings they currently give movies to write riffs. They might even be able to hire out a theatre just for themselves for the day. Heck, if they did that, it would be more of a classic MST3K style writer's room situation. No one would want to see it with the riff on their first viewing anyway, so it doesn't have to be out week one. And as I said, it will be screening for months.

Stepping on DG's toes, but I seem to recall a number of iRiff groups who did that with Twilight.

I laughed my ass off in Return of the King after about the fifth "ending". Lots of people were looking at me. I just couldn't believe IT WOULDN'T FREAKIN' END.

I kept my head down on the way out...

Yeah, I forget which one Quiptracks did that with. And I think Ice on Mars got a bootleg of Twilight to do their writing.

Having the option to use the app to access our VOD libraries would be really handy.

Some will be happy, others sad, but this makes Disembaudio obsolete.

Since the app's in beta, has anyone tried this yet with a dvd that's an extended version (using the synch-button feature)? I'd love to try this out with Lord of the Rings extended version, and I'm curious how well that works.

Or is it a ploy to get Disembaudio on all of our phones? Could Dis actually be Skynet?

More motivation for me to get one of those fancy smart phones all you young whippersnappers keep talking about.

I don't think I could sit through that crappy Star Wars movie again even with Rifftrax.

I was able to log in and see some of my purchases on the app however the newest Kickstarter Rewards: Star Wars 7 and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, are missing from the purchases view. I didn't see them in the search list on the app either but they appear to be buyable on the website. Will these be available in the app soon?

Another weird thing in the app: On my Samsung Tab 3 the Rifftrax app dims the screen to almost unreadable darkness. I thought it was the ambient light sensor misbehaving however when I move into another app the screen instantly brightens. Also when i try to turn off the auto screen dim while in the app that part of the interface is gone. The slide bar is returned when I am in a different app or on the home screen. I turned off the auto dim and turned the screen brightness all the way up and the rifftrax app dimmed to the same state.

I assume you logged into the kickstarter rewards page from your webbrowser? They may need to be associated with your account or something.

I can see them in my library on rifftrax.com when I am logged in and I have already downloaded them to my computer so that is working. The app seems to not see those specific riffs.

Any chance this could be made available for windows as well?  My tablet is windows based and I refuse to own a cell phone heh.
