Title: Galavant
Post by: k1 on December 31, 2014, 05:54:03 AM
I figured that this show could use it's own thread.  I just finished watching the "Making of" special that they aired last week and it looks like this show is going to be even better than I had hoped.  The cast is ridiculous, the guest stars are great, the songs... oh man...

Since this is the internet & I think there's a rule that people have to crap on everything, here's my complaint about it:  It's only 4 weeks long.

Thankfully they're doubling up on episodes so it's actually 8 instead of 4, so that's good!

Side note: Since it's a Disney production, can we PLEASE get a village or something at an amusement park for this? That would be amazing.

I have been SO thrilled about this show for months! I can't believe it's almost here!!!!

I hope it's a decent hit, really. I've noticed ABC has been promoting it pretty heavily.... I was worried they wouldn't at all and it would just kind of fly under the radar.

I've seen a lot of underwhelmed reactions, but I, for one, dug the first two episodes. Sure, it's light, but it's fun.

Weird Al's involvement is what has me interested. But I think I'll wait untill it's all out to give it a shot.

I felt like the commercials and making of made up a huge chunk of the first two episodes. I really wish it could've been stretched to hour long episodes because it seemed a little rushed at times. But I did enjoy it quite a bit.

I hated the Galavanting of the commercials for every freaking show on the network though. Got old real fast.

I loved it. I laughed a lot, and that made me quite happy. :)

I would also prefer hour long episodes, but I am happy with it as it is.

I watched illegally downloaded copies, so I didn't have to suffer anything BUT the show... which I loved! Very dry, possibly a bit too British humour for most of the American viewing public, but highly enjoyable!

I'm in for the next 3 weeks.

I'm still behind a week, enjoyable but it largely gets by on charm more than laughs. I guess King Richard would be the exception, he makes the show. The only member of the cast who has stood out over the first two hours.

I love the King! Once you get caught up, I think you will enjoy him more. Also, the Queen is horrible and I hope she gets her comeuppance!

We couldn't get through one episode, though we did fast forward through episode 3 to see the Weird Al and Ricky Gervais scenes.  Not sure why, but it seemed like every moment we watched was just build up to a punchline that didn't come or disappointed us.

I still love the jousting scene the best. It's the only part that had me literally laughing out loud. Most of it is clever enough and I think the king's part is well done. Wish Weird Al had more scenes though.

I thought Weird Al was completely underused. His part could have been played by anyone.

Ricky Gervais was great though!

The cook is the best part of the show!

Really, the king and his 2 sidekicks pretty much just steal the entire show.

Totally! I never thought Vinnie Jones could be so comedic!

Just got caught up... Probably the best hour of the show so far, but I agree with Anais... They really didn't have much for Weird Al to do... but Gervais was good.

I'm still laughing at the "used to have balls" line.

A potential for another season the way they ended it! Nice!

The writers very definitely have an "in" with the network (Menkin has been Disney's music-slave for over 25 years) so I got the feeling they made 2 endings and used this one because they know they'll get a second season.

I think the best part of those last 2 was the secret mission song!

The secret mission song was awesome! The King and Galavant together = happiness for Anais!  :highfive:

So... they advertise the shit out of it as a "four week event"... then at the end it's just typical cliffhanger "please renew" panhandling. Ugh. In the big picture, I guess I don't really give a squirt about the conclusion / cliffhanger... it was a fun enough ride either way... But I was actually looking forward to what was being sold, a self contained comedy miniseries.

I'm really annoyed that ABC cancelled Forever, but this and The Muppets make up for it a little.
