but fun isnt it. I assume this is the dragon quest for ps2 that came out recently. the one with the king and princess thats been turned into a monster and a horse respectively?
I'm still waiting for Duke Nukem Forever...Wasn't that supposed to come out in like- '99? :^)
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories - Definitely worth the 20 dollar price tag, graphics/game play are far superior to the original Vice City.
when I first started playing Liberty City Stories, I completely knew my way around already, just from playing the original so much. But it surprised me because I haven't played it in years, but I still remembered all the streets and locations. It was like going home....
Neverwinter Nights (anyone?), Valkyrie Profile 2 (Lezard might be the coolest character ever), and New Super Mario Bros.
I play a little Guitar Hero 2 a few times a week, and Puzzle Quest if I have some time to kill.
Chrome Hounds
I'm yet to figure out whether I genuinely like it, or whether my vision is clouded by how awesome robots are. Especially fully customisable robots in From Software games.
Well, technically I did. But that's because I was being a smart ass and when they ask you "Will you save the world? You're our only hope!" I kept saying "I don't want to" just to see how many times it would take before they forced me to save it anyway. Well, the game designers are a bunch of smart asses too, and if you say 'No' too many times then it just says game over. Which is funny, and I respect it, but they make you go through the whole long introduction again. Smartass game designers.
Oh, Super Paper Mario. Sweet, sweet Super Paper Mario. How did I ever have fun before you were released? :^) I beat Paper Mario 2 (Finally) earlier today and instantly melted away the next 3 hours playing Super Paper Mario. I'm a long-time addict of Paper Mario games, and while this is a departure from the previous 2 RPG-Style Paper Marios, it becomes something else that's maybe even better. I like it a lot. I can tell from past experiences with games that I won't rest until I've seen every area in both 2 and 3 dimensions. It's SO addictive, I spent most of my day off (I QUIT MY OLD JOB! YAY!) NOT posting on these forums!!!! :^)
The virtual console has me all hooked on Actraiser all over again. It's good to be god! :^)

I never understood how Picross worked. Could someone explain it for me?
I just polished off King's Quest III. Moving on to Leisure Suit Larry I. No, seriously. You DO know Sierra recently released entire collections for Space Quest, Kings Quest, Police Quest, and Leisure Suit Larry for $20 a pop, right? They even work with modern-day computers. :^)
I recently rediscovered my love of the old Sierra Adventures, and since there were a few that I had never gotten around to playing, I spent some time locating a copy of every single adventure game they released (though I have yet to dig up Woodruff and the Schnibble.) Now I'm playing through all of them in order of release, and having a nostalgic blast.
I did take a break for a couple of days to play through Wing Commander I, though.

It should be noted that Vivendi doesn't give a rat's ass for Sierra's storied history, as I believe they flubbed every one of those collections in some way. The original Space Quest I EGA is not included in the Space Quest collection, for instance, despite the fact that its uncompressed size clocks in at a massive 652 KB. Weak. I was annoyed at even giving them my paltry 20 bones, save for the thought that perhaps in some way some tiny bit of the take would trickle down to the original authors.
But I can forgive all that. What I can't forgive was that there were no hard-copies of the instruction manuals. Would that have been too much?

Sweeeeeeeeet,
May they sell half a million of them, and inspire some of the other game publishers to pull their heads out.
[There's an interesting looking Adventure game on the horizon called A Vampyre Story, it's by (yet another) one of the former LucasArts guys. The website's a little out of date, but they have some very nice screen shots posted there:

I tried out Enchanted Arms and for some reason i didnt like it much. It must just be the style that they had set it up as. A lot of time reading the dialog from the characters and i got confused by the fighting system. I was glad that i had just rented it instead of actually buying it. (hopefully you dont feel the same way i did since you bought your copy)
while simultaneously swearing at Resident Evil 4 on the PC. No mouse support my angry fat ass...I agree, probably the most ridiculous thing I've ever wasted $20 on (that's a lie), next to the $30 I wasted on the Wii edition. I keep hoping when I buy a different edition for this game it will be more awesome than the first version I played, but after I play the newer version I just wish I had stuck to the PS2 version and left it at that. I love Resident Evil 4, but Capcom keeps screwing up every time they try something new with it.

Playing Perfect Dark, Shadowrun, Ms. Pac-Man, Paperboy, and Doom all on X-box Live...my gamertag is mst3k 420, I ll accept most english speaking people as friends but if you fuck with me expect the same...Did they release the old Perfect Dark for the 360 or is it Perfect Dark Zero?

Try Eternal Sonata, the demo was pretty good and it got good reviews unlike Blue Dragon.

Trauma Center: Second Opinion
This game is so much fun! It's basically an expanded port from the DS, but there are a few upgrades here and there for the Wii. I can't believe how fun it is to perform fake surgery. I still get excited when i get to cut someone open at the beginning of each level. There's all sorts of drama going on with the storyline... real soap opera kind of stuff. But other than that, everything is pretty straight forward.
It's managed to bump Super Paper Mario to the back of the line for that last coupla' days. So that's something!

...there's a sequel coming out in the near future with two player co-op.
Quote from: varietyofcells...there's a sequel coming out in the near future with two player co-op.
Yeah, i've seen a few screen shots from New Blood. It looks basically the same, although i hear that there will be actual voice-over work... as opposed to reading all the drama at the bottom of the screen. The two-player option sounds great, but i rarely have anyone who hangs out here just to play video games. But the online functionality and leader boards sound cool.
I think a big part of the fun in this game is just how easy it is to play. Nothing is super difficult to the point where i've wanted to give up. And each level is straight-forward without too many complicated puzzles or nonsense that a lot of games lean towards. I've always feel cheated when i learn that i missed out on a big chunk of a game or extra levels because i hadn't magically figured out, somehow on my own, that i was supposed to "do this and then that, and found the hidden whazzit on the third level, then return to the ninth level and put it inside the whoozzit and turned it clockwise to unlock the bullshit." Ya' know?
So Trauma Center may be kinda' easy, but it's right up my alley!

Anyone else seen the TV ad for the new Lego Star Wars (http://www.lucasarts.com/games/legostarwarssaga/) game? ;D
It's in "Gallery". Worth it just for the few seconds of Vader killing Jar Jar. ;D
Doesn't seem to be available for PC though.... >:(

My friend played a demo somewhere. Said it was cool.

Which system are you going for. I'm intrigued enough to try the Wii controls, but I'll probably end up with a 360 version for familiarity.

I'm also intrigued by the Wii controls. I've also heard good things about the TNA Wrestling game that's coming out sometime.

I got the 360 version. I really enjoy the Season Mode, although I really wish I could play as a dyed-in-the-wool heel. That would be awesome.

I actually haven't received the game yet, I was just going by the past Season Modes, where the options for being a heel were very limited. I do remember one time where I became the ECW champ and then conquered the WWE though, that was pretty sweet.
I've played Smackdown vs Raw 2008 for about 8 or so hours now, and it's a decent game. The integration of General Manager mode with Season Mode and the heightened RPG elements of both of those two give the game a little more depth. The actual wrestling is pretty decent too, with the controls feeling a little more natural than they did last year - except for running, which is slightly annoying - and it also provides a better flow to your offense. The graphics are nice too, with almost all of those hideous collision detection problems gone and a greater detail to the all around game.
However. The 24/7 mode isn't finished. The storylines tangle themselves up, making less sense than their real-life counterparts, the cut-scenes repeat themselves, and make no sense (you could be feuding with Randy Orton, but you'll be shaking his hand). It can really destroy the illusion. And while normal matches are relatively good, ladder matches are still broken - the act of holding down the left or right stick until the metre drains still takes far too long and is unbalanced to the point of unfairness. I spent 20 minutes destroying Batista - which was nice - until all his limbs were red, I threw him out of the ring and climbed the ladder, about 20 seconds later, he climbed the ladder, suplexed me off it and got the case in about the same time it took me to drain it a third. Very frustrating.
That said, I think it's an overall improvement over last year's game, but they're still got lots of room for improvement.

Sounds like I'll still find it worth my time. I doubt they'll ever have all their bugs fixed, but as long as they get a little better each year I'll be satisfied. I'll just have to try renting a couple versions first, to see what system I want it for.
I remember renting Raw vs Smackdown two thousand something, and the thing that struck me about season mode was that no matter what kind of wrestler you played as (cruiserweight, lightweight, heavyweight...) they still made you fight the same guys, i.e. you'd have to fight Batista and the Undertaker even if you chose to play Rey Mysterio instead of Kane. I played season mode with a light heavyweight, and if I'd chosen anyone lighter I wouldn't have been able to move 85% of the guys they made me fight. The Smackdown games for the PS2 (or the one I played at least) would actually sort of calibrate career mode to your character so you'd fight guys closer to your class most of the time, except in the case of an important fight or a feud or something.
I dunno, I kinda enjoyed pummeling Chris Masters with a barb-wire two-by-four that I'd set on fire. Seemed somehow...natural.
Just dusting off some of my old Gamecube titles.
That reminds me... has anyone tried using Gamecube games in their Wii? I figured that would be a cheap way to get a nice collection of some old decent games. Maybe from eBay or something. But the last thing i want to do is try loading one of those little discs into my system only to hear clicking and whirring noises before it all goes to black...
Is it possible to extract my game save files from gamecube onto my wii or am I forever stuck with having to use a memory card to save anything for a gamecube game on my wii?
I've been playing the original Fallout in anticipation of the new one coming out in '08. Being a huge fan of Interplay/blackisle, I can't believe I missed this game the first time around. It's awesome.
Moved onto Fallout 2. Let's hope it's less buggy than the first one. I never did get to fight the master because the game kept crashing on the elevator down to his level. Feh. Had to watch the ending on youtube.I feel your pain, I installed System Shock 2 onto my computer last week updated everything and applied some patches that re-textured and re-skinned the game to make it look somewhat decent and after I went through all that trouble the game crashes about 30 seconds into it everytime. I really wanted to play it too,
4) The Orange Box - The cake is a lie!So far that's been the best game I've seen come out in a long time as far as everything you get for the price and the quality of the games. I love the Orange Box, everyone should get this that has a 360, PS3(not out til next year), or PC.
Crackdown on my 360 I found it for $20 and it's surprisingly entertaining after you start building up your skills.
I picked up this game on Steam yesterday called Half-Life. I don't know if any of you have heard of it. It's pretty good. I think it won some awards?

Doom 3. This game scares me. I love it.

"A thing to note is that, the number and the type of command on
display also depends on the Digimon's emotion (eg. tense, strong,
caring, anger). So it is important for you to alter its emotion to
get the right command that you need during battles. This can be done
by selecting support command."
"Normally a tense character will have a
majority of attack command, a caring character with majority of
guard command, and strong character with a balance set of command.
Sometimes, really tense character can also display really powerful
attack."
Andy got me Cookin' Mama for DS. I got really really sick these last 5 days and the whole time I was in bed I just made food all day haha.

I just beat Mass Effect. It has just over 25 hours of gameplay if you explore and complete every side mission. It's a pretty fun game. I'm going to play through it again just for kicks. If you like RPGs (Especially KOTOR) you'll love Mass Effect.

Really? It took me over 40 hours to complete it, both times! :)
...
Yeah, 25 hours seems kind of short... especially when you include side games and everything. I can't speak for Mass Effect personally though. But just in general, that would be considered a pretty short game.

Haven't tried any of the Fire Pro Wrestling games. Anything you can compare it to? I might have to pick up one of them sometime.
I'm playing NeverWinter Nights again now that I have all the expansions, and I'm playing through Fable a second time. This time as the evil hero. I always play games once they're old news. We'll get it on PC eventually if it does well enough on the 360.
(Fable 2 comes out in Nov. only for 360 though. Excuse me while I go pout)

I'm playing a little bit of Silent Hill 2 before i get Silent Hill Origins tomorrow. It's finally been ported to the PS2 so I'm pretty excited.Check out this review (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/zeropunctuation/2791-Zero-Punctuation-Silent-Hill-Origins) of it when it came out for the PSP, but don't let it stop you from playing it. This guy tears everything apart.
I bought Army of Two today and played through the training mission. I'm enjoying it, but I don't want to get too far in it until my buddy can come over and join me. I'm a big fan of co-op games.
I have my eye on that too. Lemme know how you like it.
So my cousin gave me all his N64 games, and I've been playing around with WCW/nWo Revenge, which turns out to be one of the best wrestling games I've ever played. The controls are smooth, the roster is huge, and the move animations are awesome for this technology.

Well if you have the computer to run this stuff you might want to check out some of these (http://www.rpgbanana.com/skins/games/827) to improve the aesthetic aspect of the game. I have no clue how to install skins and textures for this particular game but they usually leave some sort of installation instructions. I personally like the look of this (http://www.rpgbanana.com/skins/27674) and someone even made Sauron's armour (http://www.rpgbanana.com/skins/27928) which is pretty damned cool. They have some other cool skins on there as well.Recently dug out Oblivion again and spent the last couple days sifting through the thousands of interesting mods out there.Do you have it on PC or for your 360?
PC. My friend has it or 360 (and it was that which introduced me to the game) but I got it for PC because I wanted a mod that changed the leveling system. Gameplay and immersion always comes first for me; if I want a rediculous challenge instead I'll go outside and roll a giant boulder up a hill.
Tex Murphy: Under a Killing Moon. The FMV is pretty basic and the controls are awkward, but it's still pretty cool.
The only thing I have a problem with is this damn story Nintendo keeps using over and over. You know. The light world is being taken over by the dark world, so you have to enter the dark world and slay the dark beasts, returning the light to all corners of the world. They used the SAME STORY for Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Any others I'm missing?

I did, but I kept getting burned. Or maybe I just set my expectations waaaaay too high to be able to like the game. Most recent case in point, Mass Effect.

I really loved Mass Effect. Actually, that was a game I was excited for. I still only ordered it online though... The only games I get excited about nowadays tend to be by Bioware or Lionhead. I'm looking forward to Fable 2, especially.
That goddamn vehicle. Luckily it didn't bother me enough to ruin the game for me, but I absolutely know what you mean. I remember one time the APC had slid down a little bank and was idling 10 feet from a river of lava. I sat there not knowing what to do because I knew that the forward-backward controls change depending on which way the camera is facing (even if it's only a few degrees off-center). One direction on the joystick would send me back up the bank and back to the road, and the other would make my APC chug in reverse down the bank and into the lava. I chose the wrong direction.

I finally broke down and spent $20 for Shadow of the Colossus and all I can say so far is "Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn." It's awesome, but the controls piss me off from time to time. Next game I have to find is ICO in good condition for under $30 if that's possible.

I wonder why that game is so expensive? It's such an old title, I would think it would be populating the bargain bins at the re-sell shops. Don't get me wrong, I loved the game, but it's not like it has a lot of replay value.

I've seen it in the bargain bin at Toys R Us a few times for $10. I think that was around November? It was awhile back. If I stumble across one I'll snag it.
The controls take a while to get used to but I've played through Shadow of the Colossus a couple of times.
Pak? Are you going to delay playing IV until after it gets re-released on the DS?I might just give IV a second run-through. I want to try the extra dungeon in the GBA remake, and then I really wanna try the new version they're cooking up. :^)
I just "acquired" a copy of the adventure game, Beavis & Butthead in Virtual Stupidity. I caught the tail end of the B&B phenomenon, so the game's completely new to me. I've only played it a little, but I can tell that above all else, it'll be hilarious.
They made good use of the controls, for the first time in a long time its easy for me to aim a gun in a video game.
it also pissed me off when everyone was so impressed with the one-hit kill "melee" combat of Halo 2 when I had been playing Aliens vs Predator for years, a game where the aliens had no ranged attacks whatsoever. They required speed and skill to defeat well-armed marines and ridiculous predators.
I'm still playing the Sims 2 but I really want to play Black & White 2. My only problem is that my PC has an inferior graphics card that doesn't support shading so it refuses to be played.
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life As a King for wii, downloaded it from the WiiWare service...wow, I'll be the first to say that the gamecube Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles was a big let down...but this game is great. The premise is that you are a King, you find a castle, and have the ability to build stuff instantly.
Your job is to build a kingdom, you can only build a little bit at a time, and you can only build stuff in certain places. You hire adventurers to go and defeat dungeons for you, and you raise everybody's morale by talking to them, when their morale is high, they pay more tithes to the kingdom.
I've also noticed that based on where you build stuff, can affect people's lifestyles in the game. The people in the neighborhood with a bakery are extremely happy, all the time. The people near the armory, all raise children who want to be warriors, and if I build stores that make items such as swords, armor, or useful items, if I build them far away from everybody, they actually make more powerful stuff, to try and bring in business.
For fifteen dollars, this game has more value than most fifty dollar games. Its kinda boring at first, but if you stick with it, it gets way awesome, and way fun. I highly recommend it.

It does sound sort of interesting, and I am a big fan of Final Fantasy. But all the downloadable content kinda turns me off. What are your feelings on that aspect of the game? I had decided not to buy it... but hearing a fan of Rifftrax likes it is making me give it a second thought.
Lego Star Wars was cool because of all the characters available to you.

Minn, speaking as someone who was trying to use the Zapper, go out and find one of these:
It's the Nyko Perfect Shot. It's around $15 and I found it to be much more enjoyable to use than the zapper.
Oh, and I spent the weekend playing Lego Indy. I should be getting all 1000 points of achievements in the next day or two. I'm at 100% and just have to grind for the remaining things.
There's no way to use the nunchuck attachment with that gun right?
...
I have to say that i also find the Zapper totally annoying... it's just unwieldly. The Nyko Perfect Shot feels much better, and more natural, when playing shooters like Umbrella Chronicles or House Of The Dead.
Besides the Wiimote itself, i've found most of Nintendo's controllers kinda' off in one way or another. For example, the classic controller plugs into the Wiimote. So you have a Wiimote just dangling from a cord somewhere, and it's always in the way because it plugs into the back of the controller, between your hands, rather than into the front... where it would be out of the way.
Anyway, i just bought a wireless nunchuk from Nyko and it's amazing. It just seems like this is the way the Wii should have been right off the bat... completely wireless.

(sigh) ... well, since you guys twisted my arm, had to go out and get a perfect shot 8) ... love it. Works great with House of the Dead. The accuracy is spot on and the pistol is a more natural fit. However, I still love the Uzi design of the Wii Zapper, so I suppose it will depend on the game and my mood when selecting a controller.
I hope the classic controller is okay for what I'm gonna use it for. I put in a 40 dollar Amazon order four days ago for that and a copy of this game
(http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51aCTUkcMyL.jpg)
It's supposed to be a good clone of RBI Baseball (aka the greatest game EVER). I'm completely psyched to try it out. My love for RBI is such that if the 'classic controller' disappoints, then I'll end up ordering the PS2 version of the game >:D
WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2008 I know nothing about wrestling past 2001. At least the story keeps me laughing.
I've been waiting for somebody to say the wireless nunchuk is good, I may have to get one.
That Kama Wireless Nunchuck we're giving away may become something of a collector's item in the near future. Nintendo has sued Nyko, manufacturer of the device, claiming that the Kama violates Nintendo's patents for the original Nunchuk, imitating the controller in "novel shape, design, overall appearance and even the color and materials used in the Nintendo Nunchuk controller."
Nyko spokesperson C.C. Swiney told Bloomberg that they do not believe that they have violated Nintendo's patents with the Kama, but that they are "still examining this." We've had a look at both controllers ourselves, and we think they're actually pretty different. If you look closely at the Nintendo Nunchuk, you can see that it has a cord coming out of it.
Could Nintendo have their own wireless Nunchuk on the way? Or have they decided to start cracking down on third-party controllers now after over 20 years for some other reason? Is the Kama really that similar to the Nunchuk?

The 2008 version is a better game for wrestling, but the story mode really sucks... 2007 had at least some different branches you could go down.I never played a wrestling game before, Too bad GameFly doesn't send manuals with the game, but after a few days, I started to get the grasp of it. As far the 24/7 mode, each one of the plots made me look like jerk in some way, be it taking another "Superstar" Diva away or "letting" my teammate get ambushed and not stopping it. I don't know if I'm a bad guy or good guy half the time. That and achievements can be only unlocked on "Legend". Blah.

There are 3 downloadable Metallica songs some Death Metal, some Nu-Metal, Judas priest, Motley Crue. I kinda wish there was more Hair Metal tho.

I can only imagine how much money it'd take to win that game in an arcade...
I finally got my 360 back from the repair shop, and I went out and bought Lost Odyssey - it's been ages since I played an RPG - but my brother still has my hard-drive, so I won't be able to play it for a little while!

Well, good. I like J-RPGs, as long as they're not too silly. I'd really like to see another Knights of the Old Republic though.

No kidding. I keep hearing rumors that they're doing a KotOR MMO, but I kinda hope not. I've yet to play an MMO that I found entertaining. I mean, I don't mind grinding - in fact, I kinda like it - but I don't want to hear a bunch of 13 year old boys talk about... well, whatever they talk about in that strange sanscrit language they use. Also, it'd be cool if Obsidian did the next KotOR. I loved part 2, both times I played through it.

Yeah, and MMOs can be a neverending addiction that swallows a social life. Basing one on some of my favourite RPGs sounds like a recipe for my disaster. :)
Fallout 3 looks good. And the guys behind KoTor 2 have their own RPG coming out called Alpha Protocol, which at least sounds promising.

Needless to say, I'm stoked for Alpha Protocol. And, yeah, Fallout 3 looks delicious. I even want to splurge on the collector's edition, which comes with a lunchbox and a Fallout Boy bobblehead.

Okay, so I've completed the Lost game. It's pretty short at 6 or 7 hours, but as a fan of the show, I kinda liked it. Only one or two of the actors do their own voices, which can be a little jarring, but it's authentic look helps create the right atmosphere. Oh, and typical Lost:Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I know this isn't the T.V. thread but I honestly hope that the show LOST causes cancer. I'm honestly on the brink of killing arrogant douche-bags at work talking about this bullshit show on lunch break. No offense to you personally on this, of course, I'm a jaded fuck.
Superman Returns: The Videogame. From EA before they started to get interesting, this is a really poor attempt at transposing the Spider-Man games to another character. Flying isn't as fun as swinging.

Ico, one of the most beautiful games ever produced. I love the whole "dragging the girl around" mechanic. The only game I've ever played where escorting works and is fun. I can only hope to make a game like that some day, not that an American developer would take a chance like that.I still can't find a cheap copy of that game.

Ever since it came out, I've been stuck about 20 minutes into Jade Empire. Every few months I'd start up a fresh game, get killed by bandits after 20 minutes of play, remember why I haven't played it very much, and give up. Today I pressed through the initial battle, and now that I've made it that far, everything has opened up and I finally feel like I'm in a Bioware RPG. The story is riviting, the characters are compelling, and the combat system isn't so bad when you get the hang of it. It turns out this game is right on par with Knights of the Old Republic or Mass Effect. Coincidentally, it seems to be out as a download in the Xbox marketplace this week. If you have an Xbox or Xbox 360 and some cash to spare, I'd highly reccomend it. Just bare with the combat system until you get a knack for it and be prepared to struggle through the beginning. Once you get going it's very much worthwhile. :^)
It was a good month for part 4s. :^) How is Soul Calibur 4? I'm assuming, if I liked SC1-3 (And Soul Edge) That I'll like this one too. :^)
What's a good RPG for the PC from the last 2 years or so? I've been looking for a good one to kill some time with until Fallout 3 comes out in October...
if I liked SC1-3 (And Soul Edge) That I'll like this one too. :^)Basically. That and you can fight on line, as long as both players have a connection. Fighting games and lag do not mix. Other then that, a lot of old and a few new. As far as Story mode, you can beat it with one character in 5 minutes, with everyone in 2 hours. They should have made Story mode longer. At lease as the Arcade mode long that is. One thing I would change is putting Capt Kirk in there. It would make just as much sense putting Vader in there.
I've completed Enchanted Arms. It's really not very good, copying too much from Final Fantasy but having an even worse storyline/script.
Currently I'm plugging away at: Rock Band, Prey, Braid and Mass Effect (for a second time) on my 360. On my PSP I am playing God Of War and Daxter. On my Wii I'm working on Metroid Prime 3 and Super Mario 3. Finally on my computer I am just playing C&C Red Alert 3 Beta.
I think I play too many games at once
Hey Chaos, did you get Oblivion for the PS3 or computer?
I'm still totally sucking at Stranglehold. I've managed to worm my way to the chicago level, but the guy with the laser beams in his apartment is pissing me off as they seem to keep coming on exactly where I stand.
I don't know how high end your computer is but I'd suggest looking into some of these mods and skins they have here (http://www.rpgbanana.com/games/827). Some of my favorites to install on there (it's a little tricky at first, but you get used to it quickly) are the Operation Optimization mod, Phoenix Equipment (flaming weapons & armor, it looks pretty awesome), Natural Environments mod which also gives the game a different look (I thought it looked a lot better, but that's my opinion. Figured I'd just throw that your way as something to look at if you wanna play around even more with the game. I also liked flying around as Sauron on top of a dragon wreaking havoc to all those below me.Hey Chaos, did you get Oblivion for the PS3 or computer?
I got it on the PC.
When I'm playing games like that just for fun I like to have an unlimited life code turned on so I don't have to spend hours upon hours walking around carefully and hiding from everything. So until someone cracks the PS3 so you can install and run 3rd party software at the same time as the game software, I'll only be playing it on the PC.
I must say, I really am enjoying it. I've gotten past the apprentice level of the mage's guild now, and I just finished the vampire hunter mission, which was fun. Sooner or later I might even go do one of the storyline missions. ;)
I'll have to check those out. Thanks. :)Dont forget to get the expansion!!

Lego Indy. I got 100 % on Lego Star Wars, so why go for the gold on this one. Oh and, I'm playing still Final Fantasy 4. On the final part of it, so might be another week. :p
PS3: Rock Band (and contemplating starting Uncharted over again since I'm only 1/3 through so I can get the trophies)
Wii: Zack & Wiki, Lego Star Wars (still), Strong Bad, Mario Kart, Boom Blox
PSP: collects dust
PC: Free Cell at work. Peggle at home.
I ended up buying the full game of PixelJunk Eden form the PSN store. I've been playing it non-stop. If you have a PS3, it's probably the best $10 you can spend. I even like it more than Super Stardust HD. Which is saying something.
Strangely, Eden didn't do anything for me. I think I'm addicted to buttons, or something. Simple games just don't interest me anymore. ;)
Did you know that Capcom are releasing Megaman 9 onto digital distribution? It's a brand new Megaman, but the graphics and design were made as if it was still going to put out for the NES. It looks pretty interesting.

That's... weird.
Still, I'd give it a shot. I'm very nostalgic about some NES games. Especially Mega Man. I still hear the intro music for MM2 in my head sometimes. :P
Also, I'd like to send out a nice big SCREW YOU to those of you who made mention of Peggle. I'd missed this one from PopCap, and now I'm frickin' hooked. I just spent the last 3 hours playing through all 50 of the non-master level stages in one sitting. :P
I still don't get the whole "Zelda II is hard" thing. I never had any trouble with it, even as a kid.
I never cared for Sonic. The whole reason Sega made that game for the Genesis in the first place was to cover up for their poor graphics compared to the SNES (by having the character move so fast, you couldn't make out the crappy detail). ;)
This evening I finished all of the master levels of Peggle and am now working on the challenge levels. I've gotten 400K on a couple of the levels, beaten all but one of the master level duels, and am currently working on the multi-stage challenges. Yeesh, those things are nasty.
Speaking of the SNES, I also spent some time at work today starting up a new game of Chrono Trigger, which I've been thinking of doing for awhile now. I like to dust it off every now and then and revel in its sheer awesomeness.
If they do, I might have to finally break down and buy the DS. I love that fucking game. Most definitely the best "golden age" RPG ever.
At least if I broke down and bought a DS, I would have an excuse to get all of the re-released Final Fantasy games, too.
If you ask me, there's not much point in releasing a game on a new system if you're not going to AT LEAST overhaul the graphics. Adding in new content (or at the very least, putting back in the stuff you took OUT from the Japanese version when you ported it to the US the first time) is preferable. I enjoyed what they did with the Final Fantasies that got ported to the GBA, and like even better the sound of (though I have not personally seen) the updates they did to the Final Fantasies for the DS. It seems stupid to me to pay perfectly good money for a game that I can already play on my TV, if I have to play it on a tiny screen and it's exactly the same. If it's just an identical port, I won't be buying it.
Just got arcanum: of steanwork and magick. remembered hearing about it as a kid and picked it up. The average review for it read like this. "The graphics are choppy, the story's just ok, sometimes it causes slow down on even high end machines. the spell systems not that great and the music gets repetative and it's a great game" so I couldn't resist.

August 18, 2008 - Today Square Enix announced its remake of the beloved Super Nintendo RPG Chrono Trigger will land on your DS November 25. Originally released in 1995, Chrono Trigger DS has been updated for dual screen presentation and touch screen controls. The portable version will also include a new dungeon and an Arena mode.
I had always thought I'd outgrown the childish tantrums that inspired me to throw my controller across the room. I was wrong. They just stopped making games that inspire it. :^)
Speaking of which, I'm having immense fun right now playing Bionic Commando Rearmed. They really did a fantastic job of capturing everything good about the original, and modernizing it to make it more fun. I can't wait to play the modernized sequel after getting a taste of the enhanced original. This is $10 very well spent as far as I'm concerned (which, I assure you, is high praise, as it's the only downloadable game I've EVER purchased in my entire life). That looks awesome, I'll have to pick it up.
This week, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. It reminds me a lot of Pitfall. That is, if Pitfall had guns.

Fun game, but it's kinda short. it only took me about a week to beat it. I'm hoping they do a sequel sometime soon...
On a side note, Emily Rose (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2448361/), the woman who does the female voice in the game, is smokin'.

Tomb Raideresque
The parts I enjoyed the most were the more Tomb Raideresque bits, with the climbing and whatnot, though I thought the vine swinging felt a bit broken. All in all though, a pretty decent game, but maybe not $60 decent.

Yeah, luckily I got mine used for ~$35, and I sold it on half.com for about the same price. I'm usually not really willing to pay full price for a game. GTA IV being the one exception so far.

I always pay full price unless I can't get the game otherwise. I guess it's a solidarity thing.

I take it you're in the games industry in some way?
Solidarity is all well and good, but there's no law preventing people from buying and selling used games, or from stores reducing the prices of games that aren't selling well enough. And no EULA in the WORLD that says you can't sell your game that would also hold up in court. So the only reason to pay more for games is personal preference, which of course everyone is entitled to.

Yes.
And I know it isn't illegal, nor should it be. I'm just saying that when the retailers resell used games, it's pure profit for them and they cut the games industry out of any of the profits, meaning we aren't getting paid for our work and this has had an effect.

Well you have to make a good game for people to buy it in the first place.... And if something can be beaten in one day then the company didnt make a good game in the first place. If it was released at 30-40$ it would have a better chance being bought legitimately. But then ofcorse its money before art right?? :p
Yeah, it is your duty to make a game deemed "good", Chimay. Stop dicking around, lives & mortgages depend on it AND make sure it doesn't take less than a day to beat otherwise it will not be deemed "good".
Another angle to consider with the whole "used games steal money from game designers" concept is that maybe those people who are buying them used just wouldn't buy the game at all if the only way you could get it was to buy it new at $60 without even getting a chance to try it first (and not being able to take it back or sell it to someone else if it sucks ass). It's the same flawed logic that people use to lambast piracy. The fact of the matter is that number of copies aquired from outside sources does NOT directly equate to lost revenue on a one to one basis, because some people simply won't play your game if they can't get it for cheap.
As I said earlier, there are LITERALLY only 3 games that have come out in the past 5 years or will be coming out in the next 2 years I would ever be willing to pay $60 for. If all games were that much, I would just stop buying games, and go play kickball or something.
Ooh, actually, that sounds like fun. My daughter's got a mean left foot. That should hold me over until The Force Unleashed finishes fucking downloading. Damn you, high server traffic! *shakes fist*
Yeah, there's a whole bunch out there in the next month or so. I'll probably just rent a bunch. Fallout 3 and Fable 2 will probably get my money though. Tales of Vesparia too, whenever it comes out here.
I have about $1200 worth of stuff that I'd like to buy between now and the end of the year, including Spore, Fallout 3, the WoW expansion, Sid Meier's Colonization, Lego Batman, Chrono Trigger DS, Rock Band 2, Guitar Hero World Tour, Starcraft II, Persona 4...Boy those are all good games 'cough' cough' your signature 'cough' I really like fallout to, I do 'Cough' 'cough' not how you spell goggles 'cough' 'cough' Starcraft and those crazy koreans huh, isn't that something.
Sigh. I don't really need that other kidney...
I will be playing Mercenaries II asap. I've been looking forward to that one for a long time.
Next week? Spore.
That's true as well, although I've heard it'll take a few hours to undecrypt as well.
K1, they are releasing it on Sunday, it that helps you.
I find it extremely difficult to nail down a really good RPG on the console systems. I can't think of anything since Final Fantasy 7 that actually captivated me and really delivered a strong story with lots of hours spent exploring and building up (without being too tedious). Final Fantasy 10 was good, but not fantastic, even with the added bonus of getting an actual story with voices.
Most of the modern offerings don't even ATTEMPT to take advantage of the increased disc space they now have available. Some of the games look good, but have major flaws. I've heard good things about Folklore, but by all reports the main game is FAR too short (a meager 15-20 hours), and the fact that there is no voice acting really sticks in my craw. We shouldn't be expected to shell out 60 bux in this day and age for a textie.
Aside from FF13, I do have at least some hope for a couple of the upcoming PS3 RPG titles. Valkyria Chronicles in particular looks interesting with its anime-style flat animation and mix of RPG and war sim action. I really like the originality of the idea of Eternal Sonata (a fantasy world invented in the mind of Chopin as he lies on his deathbed, with musical themes and even actual compositions of Chopin's intermixed throughout), and the battle system looks quite fun, especially how light and dark will have an effect on abilities, strengths, and weaknesses. Even though almost nothing tangible is known about White Knight Chronicles yet, the idea of fighting actual massive bosses in an RPG (not just whacking them with your sword the same as you do for any other enemy but actually battling them on an epic scale) seems like a fantastic idea and I hope it actually pans out that way in reality. I will probably end up shelling out some cash for these 3 sooner or later... I just hope they don't all turn out to be more disappointment.
We're really moving into a golden time for high profile titles over the next 6 months. The closer we get to games like Spore, Fallout 3, Final Fantasy 13, and the like, the harder it gets to actually wait that shorter amount of time. Can't it be December yet? PLEASE? :)
Ummm Super Mario RPG just came out on Nintendo's VC... if you like square. It's in two and a half of the three D's.... pretty advanced stuff... for snes. Well, i'm enjoying it anyway.
Final Fantasy 7. Best game Ever. The story, concept, and how it was made was excellent. Not many other Final Fantasies come close.
Have you seen the concept trailers for Final Fantasy 7 revamped for the PS3? Apparently they're still strongly considering doing a port - redoing all of the in-game graphics and FMVs to be up to current levels of technology, but the core game will be the same, possibly with even more extra content and harder dungeons added. That would fucking rock.I'm still hoping for a revamp of Silent Hill for anything. I'm not sure how to feel about Silent Hill 5, I hope these guys that took over the franchise don't drop the ball on this game.

I heard about a year ago when FF13 was leaked that they were going to make something like a Final Fantasy 7-2. But a total port and redoin the graphics would be amazing and would be the reason for me to buy a PS3.
Edit: They wanted to put alot of junk about the "Zack" character. Or whoever the not mentioned much friend of Cloud was.
Yeah, totally.
Here's the concept video:
http://www.youtube.com/v/cv8cYrGG220&hl=en&fs=1
I saw another video somewhere that put this side by side with the original for comparison, but I can't seem to find it again. On reflection, I think it may have been posted at gametrailers...
I'm pretty sure that was just a tech demo to show off what they could do on the ps3 (i think it was the ps3). No plans to actually remake the game were made at the time.
Final Fantasy 7. Best game Ever. And every time I hear that, I tend to laugh it off. Final Fantasy 7 is a good entry way if you never played a RPG and it's pretty good as RPGs go, but did God come down from heaven and worked on the game, no. Don't forget, calling something the best tends to draw fire from people (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/zeropunctuation).
You know, you don't win an argument by saying that the other side is stupid or uninformed - you just make yourself look foolish.I could if I tried harder.
The one with the big dip. If you can hit the multiplier bonus, maybe a purple, and hits lots of oranges with a full swing through the dip, it'll get you there. Yes, I realize that's a LOT of luck, but that's how I did it. :)
Sounds like a fungal infection to me... :)
I sure hope not! If that's what it is, then I've got it too!

Why are you all still posting? You're wasting valuable time that should be spent on SPORE!

Little bit of Rock Band 2, Spore (I'll post the user name and stuff later), and hopefully Force Unleashed later this week.
Finally getting around to beating Uncharted as well as Ratchet & Clank on the PS3. I'm aiming to beat them both before RB2 is out next month. Because Rock Band 1 is the reason I hadn't started them until about a little while ago...let me know what you think of R&C. I'm a big fan of the series (even have the mobile game!) and want to know whether or not I'll be disappointed when I eventually get a PS3.
And Mario Kart.

You won't. Visually it's pretty sweet. Gameplay-wise, it's the same old R&C. I'm enjoying it quite a bit. I'm at about 90% done at this point.
I haven't picked up the PSP games (but might get Size Matters now that it's on PS2) since I hate the way the camera works on Secret Agent Clank & Daxter on the PSP. Stupid lack of a right analog stick...

Well that's good to hear. Now I just need to save up to buy the PS3...
From the reviews I've read, Size Matters on the PS2 is a terrible choice (unless you don't own a PSP and really want to play it). Supposedly every "flaw" due to the limitations of the PSP are magnified on the PS2 version. I've got both the PSP games, but haven't tried Secret Agent Clank. Still getting around to it.
Bought Force Unleashed, and all I can say is... wow. It's a fucking nightmare. Seriously, stay away from it. I bought it because I heard the story was good, and it is, but unfortunately, there's a game around it that is really one of the worst, most shoddily put together games I've dealt with since... well, since the last big AAA game was released. It seems like the bigger the game is, the more likely it will suck. If this trend continues, the games industry will bust again like it did in the early '80s.
Whelp, I just bought Warhammer Online.... but I can't play it until tomorrow since it doesn't go live until then. D'oh.

Goodbye then. :)
I missed the open beta, so I won't be playing this one. I refuse to play any MMO that I can't try first with zero commitment. There are WAY too many MMOs that completely suck ass to risk actually buying the game disc (which you can't return even if you use it once, of course) before you've tried the game.
Blizzard had the right idea on this one by letting you download the game for free and play it for 7 days (or whatever it is now) without even having to give a credit card number. I bet the get a LOT of otherwise reticent customers that way. There's a reason they've made more than a billion dollars from a fucking video game. ;)
Also: Open Beta is the worst time to try out a game, thats when you get server issues, last minute patches
That's a LOT of MMO's! What's your favourite?
In honor of Talk Like a Pirate Day, I'll be playin' me some Monkey Island tonight.
Look behind you! A Three Headed Monkey!

I played the whole series again about a month ago. Monkey Island three is my second favorite adventure game, next to the first Sam and Max.
I'm currently playing through Bioshock for the fourth or fifth time, then it's on to the Fallout series to get myself psyched up for Fallout 3. I've been waiting for it for eleven years! I just hope it doesn't suck.
Hey, k1 - I see your ID online playing Ratchet and Clank a lot. Is that you or the kid? I'm a big fan of R&C. It's silly but fun.
Tried The Force Unleased on my friend's Wii yesterday. It's almost a different game! Sure, the look is pretty much identical, but you go to totally different levels, fight different bosses, and Vader's helmet look much more like the real thing, as opposed to the cartoony looking one in the PS3 version.

OOo. I forgot Lego Batman came out. I need to track down a copy of that.
I've been going through Okami again, because it's a briliant game. I keep meaning to get back to Penny Arcade: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, too.
If you have an Xbox 360, you can download the actual arcade-perfect version of the game. As far as the NES ROM, I'm sure it's out on the interwebs somewhere. :^)

They certainly are. And in amazing abundance if you know how to use a torrent program. You'll also need an emulator to play it through, and they're easy to get hold of.
I recently started Half Life 2 again, in preparation for Left 4 Dead, which I just reserved today.

That game is going to own. We might need to set something up here so that people can get some co-op going when that game hits
Picked up Silent Hill: Homecoming and it's so much better than 0rigins.
Decided to listen to Silent Hill fanboys rant on youtube, quite funny but they do make good points about it going the way of Resient Evil 4. Ditching the story line and making it an action game lacking originality by borrowing lots of things from the first few games that shouldn't be there. I'll probably play it anyways it just loses the priority I had on getting it. What I need is to find a good golf game for the Wii.Quote from: Gaseous SnakePicked up Silent Hill: Homecoming and it's so much better than 0rigins.
A friend of mine at work was on the fence about that game because there were no reviews to be found online. I think the first one showed up after noon on release day. We certainly couldn't find any pre-release reviews from any of the major sites. For a new Silent Hill game it seemed like they just kind of snuck it onto the marketplace with no real marketing or anything... which usually doesn't say good things about the game itself.

I'm currently depressing myself with my utter ineptness at Tiger Woods golf. First round of golf? 30 OVER par! Stupid, retarded, thumbs...Is this for the Wii?
Nah, the 360. I have a Wii, but it's boxed up and I've played it for perhaps 3 hours in total. I've discovered that I hate exerting myself for fun. ;D

That's too bad, you're missing out on a few gems like Boom Blox. Plus I heard the newest Tiger Woods for Wii finally nailed motion controls.

Boom Blox is definitely fun.
Just finished everything in the orange box but Team fortess. Want to play more portal, also want to gut one of those 'Advisors' like a deer buck. Episode 3 can't come soon enoughThe reason why the Orange Box is always on my XBox banner thing, is because of Team Fortress 2. My computer can't handle it, even though it runs Half Life 2, Episode 1 and 2 just fine. Another reason why the PC market is having probelms, out side of the fact of pirates. It is a lot of fun even though there's times you want to throw the controller at the TV.
I think it's actually shorter. There are only 5 levels per episode, instead of the 6 in Indiana. I'm not sure about bonus levels though, because I'm only on the last level of the first chapter. Haven't had much time to play it lately. I know there are a couple of bonus episodes in Indiana (I've unlocked the young indiana one so far), but I'm not sure how many are in Batman. Probably a comparable number.
I'd wait for it to go on sale, if I were you. It's fun, but pretty much just more of the same that you got with Indiana.
I think it's actually shorter. There are only 5 levels per episode, instead of the 6 in Indiana.Five missions pre story, three stories. The Batman side and Villian side has the same amount of missions, so there's around 30 missions plus two bonus missions. Indy had six chapters for the three missions plus the bonus mission, so you got a little less with Indy. Lego Batman is a lot of fun, but the whole Lego thing is starting to get a little bit old.

I'm mostly through Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. Should finish it this weekend. Here are my thoughts:
And more stuff after this . . .
Saints Row 2, which I'm enjoying quite a bit.
Just loaded Zak, Loom, Maniac Mansion, Monkey Island 1&2, Indy 3&4, Sam & Max ,Day of the Tentacle ,Full Throttle, and The Dig onto my computer and I'll probably load them onto my Wii tomorrow if i can get my friend to come over and help me install the Homebrew Channel onto my Wii. I'd rather not mess up the installation process and fry my Wii.

Easy as pie, man. I just did it myself. ScummVM seems to have a tendency to crash from time to time on the Wii, but it's still pretty sweet to see pixellated Guybrush in lifelike high definition!

I don't have an HD tv, so my world of wonders is mostly in black and white. I've read a little about ways to fix that, but I haven't gone about trying them yet.
I think he was referring to Steve-O's claim of seeng pixelated Guybrush in lifelike high definition which was just a funny statement for playing games older than 10 years.
Ratatouille was a pain in the ass. I completed the game, shy of 5 charms - out of 525 - and I can't go back and get them. To get the 1000 points, I'd have to play the entire game through again. Grrrr!!!!
At least my rental company are sending me Lego Batman tomorrow. :)

I hope you have a while to play it. It has a ton of episodes, and i'm somewhat embarassed to admit it but i got stuck in a few spots. The episodes aren't that long, but it has endless potential for replay. Totally worth owning.
Oh, and I've been mainlining adrenaline, in the form of Burnout Paradise. Jesus Christ, that game is awesome.

I really liked Paradise for about 2 weeks, then I just got really bored with it. Of course, that was when I got GTA IV, so everything was boring for awhile.
Just getting into Fable 2. I'm building up my gold and buying out a few businesses before I start getting into the main storyline. Gotta have a steady cash flow first. :P Good times so far.
Nope. Microsoft went the "proprietary memory card/drive" route, which is better than the Wii's "Hard drive? Why would you need that?" policy but worse than the PS3's "Need a memory stick? Hop over to Office Depot and pick up any $9.99 flash drive" route. They've got a transfer kit available for moving the 20 gig to the 120 gig models, but it doesn't recognize the 60 gig model. Sigh.

Yeah, the good version PS3s (i.e. the non-40 gigs, which are pieces of shit featurewise) have an actual card reader interface (SD, Micro SD, and some much larger slot that I don't recognize) in addition to 4 USB slots which you can plug pretty much anything into. In addition to most brands of mp3 players (but unfortunately not mine), and flash drives of all kinds, it also recognizes external hard drives. And like k1 said, you can swap out its hard drive for any other hard drive (it uses laptop-sized drives, which are slightly more expensive than normal ones, but more compact, and the price of them is coming down anyway).
You'd think Microsoft, who, you know, WORKS WITH COMPUTERS, would have thought of some of this shit. ;)

You sure about that? This support article (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937279/en-us), updated 8/20/08, seems to suggest that it does. Maybe they've released an updated migration kit.

Yeah, I know. I have a 60 gig PS3 too. It's a great little piece of hardware, just disappointing in the games available.

Blew through Silent Hill: Homecoming in a weekend. If i owned the game myself, it would probably be the first where i actually managed to score every achievement. It was kinda' fun seeing all the different endings. As it is though, i borrowed it from a friend and might as well return it now that i'm through. Next up is Dead Space and Fallout 3.

Picked up the demo for Mirror's Edge last night.
How does it compare to past entries in the series?
Picked up the demo for Mirror's Edge last night.
I DL'ed this demo last night, I can't wait to get home and try it out. Ever since I saw the trailer for it months ago, I've been more excited about this game than any other. Your notes on the demo are making me want to leave work early....
Funnily, I did the exact opposite. :) I haven't gone anywhere near DC yet, and gone almost everywhere else. I've done a few chapters of the research book, but one task will take me into DC, so I'll probably do that when I get home from work tonight. The hunting rifle is awesome - it's just a pity that ammo is pretty scarce for it. I took the Scrounger perk so I could find more ammo, and it seems to working out a little better now. The sniper rifle is great, when not used in VATS, because auto-aiming on that thing is awful. Science certainly seems to be more important in this game that it was in the previous ones, and that sucks because it's one of my lowest skill numbers - along with barter. :)
I've got 4 Bobbleheads so far, though they weren't that hard to find.
Just a heads up.
Are you going to buy Valkyria Chronicles? Can you wait until Sunday? If you can, Circuit City will have it on sale for $44.99.
Dead Space (Xbox 360)
Finished up Saints Row 2 on Saturday. Really fun game. I wouldn't mind if they made a third one.
Then I decided to boot up Mercenaries 2. After playing for about 30 minutes I discovered that it's one of the least fun games I've played in a long time. The disc was quickly ejected and put in my "Don't play unless you want to hurt yourself" pile.
Does anyone know where I can find Harold? It's not Fallout without Harold.
I'll say

I've never actually played a Fire Pro game. What make's them so good?
I delved into COD:4 Multiplayer, but left around the time a guy threw a grenade ACROSS THE FUCKING MAP, which happened to land near me. No time to react. I die. This doesn't just happen once. MLB might want to recruit some of these terrorists.
I've heard a lot of good things about the Condemned games. How traditionally FPS are they?
You people need to train your wives better or something. When I was going to download some extra characters for PAIN, my wife made me get the girl with the largest tits and shortest skirt, because she figured it would be more interesting to watch that way. :P
I've always wanted to play Condemned 2, but I haven't gotten around to it. Maybe in a few months when there's a lull in video games being released, I'll find a cheap copy somewhere.
Next on my list of games to play is the new Tomb Raider. But before I buy it, I need an excuse to give my wife so she doesn't think that I'm playing Tomb Raider just so I can gawk at a Lara Croft. No, really...I read Playboy for the articles!

My hatred of this game is complete. I am now fully intuned with the dark side.
Seriously. I fucking hate this game.
Right now, I'm playing RE4 on the Wii again. PLaying through on professional and trying to beat all the levels with 5 stars in The Mercanaries.

And I used a walkthrough to get me through Phoenix Wright: Justice for All so I could get to playing Chrono Trigger which I just bought for the DS.
Been playing Force Unleashed and probably the worst designed level ever designed. Ever.
Seriously, whoever designed the Star Destroyer level needs to be fired from LucasArts and never work in the industry ever again. It is absolutely frustrating. The targeting in the game is just terrible. It ruined what little enjoyment I was getting from the game.
To sum up the game.
Pros: Pretty good story.
Cons: Shitty gameplay. It's awful. Barely worth a rental.
360. I finally got past the Star Destroyer part. Not that it matters much. I just read Wookiepedia to spoil the ending so I wouldn't have to play this game anymore.

Maybe your just really bad at the game. I was able to beat it on the second day because I am used to learning new types of controls. (Then I beat it on the highest difficulty for the 2nd time)

Well I'm glad for you. I'm glad you're the most awesome video game player to have ever lived. But it seems to me that you haven't read a single post I've written so let me rephrase it so you can understand.
The.Targeting. Is. Terrible.
There. Nice and slow for you. I'm not having trouble playing the game. There are a few very frustrating spots though. For instace, I beat Darth Vader last night and went on to fight against the Emperor. He knocked me down off the platform so I had to quit and start over. Low and behold I have to face Vader again. This game has an awful checkpoint system. I have to replay parts I've beaten 7 or eight times because I get really close to beating it only to die at the last second.
It doesn't help that it is impossible to target anything in this game. There have been many times in this game where I've had trouble aiming objects to throw at a fucking Rancor! And not from lack of effort, admit that this game has shoddy controls.
To sum everything up, it's a pretty good game but there are extremely frustrating spots that pretty much ruin the game. The star destroyer section comes to mind. And I must say the story is pretty good. Better than the prequel dreck we've gotten the past few years. And Vader finally got his balls back as far as being a villain goes.
I had so much trouble aiming I beat it on the Highest Difficulty..... Its not really that frustrating theres just tricks to kill bosses and everything else. Just look it up or figure it out. Its not really hard :p Stop making excuses and maybe look up a thing or two. Oh and you can fuck off too
I have to wait until Christmas to play the Wii version that I know I have (my wife goes present-crazy this time of year), but I already read the graphic novel. From what I heard, it doesn't give you the whole story that the game itself does, though.

I've read the novel and played the game. I'd say that the novel actually gives you more story than the game does. Because the novel goes into a lot more detail about Juno Eclipse. But other than that the story in the novel is identical to the game. So, if you've read the novel there's really not a lot of reasons to play the game (Unless you play to unlock the alternative ending. But even that might not be worth sinking 6 hours of your time into).
EDIT: I just realized that you said you read the graphic novel, not the novelization by Sean Williams. Nevermind. :P

Dude, take into consideration that not all of us have insane amounts of time to increase our gaming skills to godlike levels. Some of us just like the escape gaming provides from an otherwise busy life. So we have to play at measly Easy or Normal levels. Hell, I'm replaying Halo right now and having some difficulty with the Normal setting. Some of us have other things to do than sit and play games all the damn time.
Thanks alot fucking microsoft, great christmas present.

Well, if anyone could do it, it would be Microsoft. Would anyone really be surprised that Bill Gates is the Antichrist?
I'm playing nothing now, because ofcourse my fucking Xbox broke. I didn't even get the RROD so it's not under warranty anymore. Looks like I'm gonna have to send it in and pay for the repair. Thanks alot fucking microsoft, great christmas present.
Also it doesnt take alot of time to be good at games. Your either good at it or your not. I know people who can play for ages and not be as good as someone with natural talent. Just calm your angry self down. Its not my fault people are bad at a game like force unleashed. Its really easy game concept for what I think most people would enjoy. And if you want to then throw violent opposition at me against me enjoying the game go ahead. Because im better then you...
I'm playing lego Star wars the complete saga.
I am absolutely hooked on A Kingdom for Keflings. Sure, it's just resource management and city building, but they added in a technology tree and a tiny pinch of god-sim to make it something special. Also, it's cool to be able to use my avatar in-game. Worth the 800 points if you're into that kind of thing. :^)
I'm playing lego Star wars the complete saga.
I was playing this non-stop and got to about 90% overall completion before being distracted by a few other games. I really should go back and get 100% completion on it. Easy achievement points, after all.
If Lego could get the license to the James Bond franchise I think that a Lego James Bond game would be quite awesome. They'd have a ton of backstory to draw from.
Lego Band of Brothers or Lego Saving Private Ryan would be much more to my liking.
There are strong rumours it's going to be Harry Potter. Which while kinda uninspired, fits perfectly into the format.

Impressive . . . Most impressive.
In all honesty, I can't judge on the difficulty of TFU since I have yet to play it . . . dammit. In general, I'd say I'm a middling to mediocre gaming talent. I can usually beat the medium/normal difficulty on games, but every once in a while I'll run into a challenge. Most of the time, I don't even bother with the harder difficulties because I usually play for the enjoyment rather than a reason to chuck my controller across the room.
Yeah that would be so cool!
I got an NES today so as of now I am playing TMNT2,Super Mario Brothers,Duck hunt, and The Legend of Zelda.
These games are all just as fun as i remember and I have never played Legend of Zelda before so this is great.

Sorry to rain on your parade but it was Mega Blocks that put out the Spiderman sets so i don't think we will be seeing Lego Spiderman.
The line is now discontinued, as the rights to Spider-Man 3 sets have been sold to Mega Bloks.
Dude... SO whipped.
Own a dog? Smear some food on the present and let him tear it to pieces. Make sure he damages the box real good too, so it won't be rewrapped.

Just thought everyone should know, today I killed some Nazi Zombies on COD: World at War with Mike on our 52" DLP TV in the Theater Room.

I played "shovel the snow out of my driveway" 3 times today and it's still coming down like crazy. Although I'd rather be playing just about anything else at this point.
And all I have now thats working is my Digital Cable and Wiener

Why not just say "Screw it!" and stay in to play games.
Anyone else tried out Doritos: Dash of Destruction? For a totally-free game/Doritos commercial, it's actually somewhat decent. Not the best game in the world, but not the worst and it's free, so there's that. :^)
Hmm, is it as good as Chex Quest?
Hmm, is it as good as Chex Quest?
wait, I didn't just imagine that game up?
Well i have the new banjo Kazzoie game ahead of it.I can take an educated guess:
Also i have been enjoying my NES but can someone tell me why Duck hunt will not work on my HDTV?
...That game I never got really far in to. It scared the hell out of me, I'm sitting there fully realizing that none of it is real but i just couldn't push myself to play the game any further. Darkness in excess like that in games is just too much for me. I seriously almost had a heart attack in Half Life 2: Episode 1 waiting for the elevator in the basement in the dark. It probably didn't help that I was really high at the time.
My friend lent me an old copy of DOOM3. Thankfully it looks to be completely backwards compatible... which means that i can finally finish this game. Originally i had it on my PC, and it glitched out right towards the very end. Now it's payback time.

The old NES Zapper worked by blanking out all of the screen for a split second except for your target, which was changed to a white color. The light gun's sensor would be able to tell whether it was pointed at a white block, and that's how it knew you had a hit.
My guess is that either the screen on an HD set isn't shiny enough for the sensor to get its feedback, or that HD-White isn't quite the kind of white the zapper is looking for.

It's not a big deal because i have an old SD set i can play it on i was just wondering why the game didn't seem to register my hits.
I had no idea how light guns worked.
Thanks again.

I just bought Darwinia & Multiwinia on steam for $7.49. That damned game is addictive. Totally worth $7.49 and I haven't even played Multiwinia yet.
I haven't played anything as of late, just came to drop the news that the Wii (http://videogames.yahoo.com/feature/console-wars-who-won-08-/1276642) is your God now.

"Now"? My Wii has been my God since I was 13 years old.
Wow, you actually managed to extend that little joke
from your podcast / skit thingie a full year after it had been posted. Nice. ;)
here we go: I just got myself a PS3, so that means Resistance 1 (I'll buy 2 after I beat this one), Ratchet and Clank (including the downloadable one), Uncharted (came with the system, so I might as well play it)
Then Steam had a nice sale on games, so I bought Bioshock for $5.
And there's always interruptions for some Left4Dead.

Started playing Mass Effect, and I must say it's fun as hell, I just got done with the missing survey team side mission. I must admit I find it hard to believe that someone would willingly impale themselves on giant spikes and get turned a cyborg-zombie, but maybe that's just me. I get done with that only to get back into the mako only to be attacked and killed by one of these giant worm thingd that just pops up on random worlds

Giant Worm things are hideous. My only advice is that you try and avoid large expanses of flatland, as that's where they appear.
I just bought and beat Call of Duty: World at War in under 5 hours. Talk about a short game. And that was just my first time through. I bet that if I did a speed run I could beat that sucker in under 4 hours, easy. Good thing I picked it up for $35.00. Totally not worth the full $60.00 price tag.
I've been playing Valkria Chronicles. A game with no achievements or trophies, and yet I love it. The story is actually pretty mature in its approach to war, and though some of the cut scene animation is a little primitive, the voice acting is excellent.
No love for the Total War series then?
Stll playing Mass Effect just got done with a side-mission that required me to kill a Thresher Maw, took me a good ten minutes to bring the damn thing down so I could get to the marines it had killed. I'm loving all the side-missions, I think it been a good six or seven hours since I last touched the main story.
Also i'm playing Half-Life 2.
The most frustrating thing about Total War has always been the diplomacy, or the lack thereof. It's coded in such a way that the modders can't fix it, either, and when they try to simulate a change with scripts and such, it ends up being awkward and impractical.

Thresher Maw guide...... When you see one shoot out from the ground just reverse while you keep shooting. It will then do the animation to go back underground. Then rush forward shooting.... It will then do the animation of it coming out from the ground again..... then rush back.... you get the point? :)
The Maw is triggered by distance and if you keep him in that everlasting loop of going up and down he is easy pickings.... Why is this good to know? Your probably going to experience 10 of these things just adventuring around. And they are good exp? /shrug

If you can manage to land the killing blow to them while outside of your vehicle, they are worth significantly more experience, too. You can take them down to almost dead in your vehicle, then get out and finish them off, and reap tasty huge XP rewards for doing so.
I'm only into Mass Effect for a small bit, but I have one question about the graphics. Why the film grain effect? Before I found that option in the Options, I thought my TV was having issues. I'm using an SDTV, so maybe it works better on an HD setup. Just seems a little pointless to me.

It does look pretty good on an HDTV. I'd call it a "Ridley Scott filter", as it gives the entire game that slick look. :)

I'm not much of a fan of the motion blur, either. That I recognize from KOTOR. Turned it off on that one, too.
A week ago my roommate's friend lent him Fable II and ever since then everyone in the house has been playing it at every opportunity. Might have to go back and play the original now, its very addicting.
But be warned: No controller support at all on the PC version. Don't know why.
That's also on the consoles. Well, definately Xbox. But be warned: No controller support at all on the PC version. Don't know why.
The Extended content is well worth any troubles. its called like Fable 1 The Lost Chronicles/Chapters and has a branched off story which is said to help describe Fable 2's ending a little more /shrug.
More Fableness, I just kicked ass in the Crucible.
I love fighting the Hollow Men, not only are they incredibly easy to kill with a sword once you know how to do the flourishes, but you imagine you're mowing down hoards of Kevin Bacon. ;D
Try not to perfect the crucible more than once. If you do you spawn outside with your legs stuck in the floor.
I wanted to max out all my skills and the Crucible is by far the fastest xp. 'Cos you can just keep going through and buying all the xp potions and for some reason you get atleast 5 times as much as you should from the potions in there. I think the legs in floor glitch happens because when you finish it. Instead of just leaving out the door, because you perfected it you have to open the chest again, but it can't give you two of the same weapon, so it just screws up. I'm quite surprised the testers missed it though.Try not to perfect the crucible more than once. If you do you spawn outside with your legs stuck in the floor.
sounds like a weird glitch. I did it once and had no reason to go back again, but I'll try to warn my friends about it.
Ooh, there's a new one coming out? I'll have to keep my eye out for that. It's a fun little game. A little short for my tastes, though.
I hope they keep the photography aspect of the game intact. I always enjoy that sort of thing in games.

If you use your same character from Mass Effect for a second run, you're allowed to keep a lot of the stats and whatnot... which makes going bad a lot easier, even if you bump up the difficulty.
-Rude
Do you really need to know? It's not like you get seperate achievements for being good and bad. You can also pump those stats after the first completion into being a Renegade which gives an easy opening for the "evil" path through the game.
Infinite Renegade/Paragon
On the planet Noveria, head to the hotel bar and look for a Turian named Lorik Quinn. Accept his quest to steal the data from his office. Once you get the data, the receptionist will ask you to get Quinn to testify. Tell her you'll do it, and then go talk to Quinn. From here:
1) Tell Quinn that he should testify (top left option).
2) When he refuses, select the Charm option (top left) for Paragon points or the Intimidate (bottom left) for Renegade points and end the conversation.
3) Talk to him again, and ask about the Matriarch.
4) When he gets done talking about her, select the "Other questions" option (bottom right).
5) Now, you'll have the option to ask him to testify again (top left). He'll refuse, and you'll be able to use the Charm or Intimidate option again to gain another 24 Paragon or Renegade points.
Repeat steps 3-5 until you have all the Paragon or Renegade points you want.
LittleBigPlanet and Fallout 3.
I still have no clue how to make a level in LBP, but I'm starting to learn.
I've unfortunately been neglecting BioShock. I got it for Christmas and it is amazing, but I've never sat down to play it save one or two times.
LittleBigPlanet is like crack.
I am currently NOT playing 007: Quantum of Solace on the Wii. I'm really disappointed with the single player mode. (I should've got it on the PS3, but the idea of using the zapper was too appealing.)

Oh yea, I forgot I had that zapper...I've only used it for the game it came with...and not for months
Crap. I knew I shouldn't have booted up KotoR II. Now I'm going to have to obsessively play it until I finish it...again. Bye!

I know that feeling all too well. Played through both KOTORs more than I can say. Got caught in another go-round of Mass Effect myself. I figured I'd move on to something else before going back, but I couldn't help myself.

Done it...again. :)
I need to back to Mass Effect and bang Williams. Haven't done that, yet.
I bought Football Manager 2009 today. It may be uninteresting to you guys, but I've spent years playing the franchise. It also helps me fulfill my dream of Bristol City winning the Champions League. :)

Jesus tapdancing Christ, what is it with the British and these Football Manager games? It's essentially a frickin' excel spreadsheet game! I had to listen to those fuckers over at the UK Gamespot podcast talk about this thing for SEVENTY god damn minutes out of a two hour podcast last week because it was all I had to listen to on a long car trip, and then they fucking went on about it for ANOTHER twenty minutes this week!
This is not a knock at anyone who actually plays the games. I just can't stand people who go on for-fucking-ever without ever changing the subject. Diversify, damnit!
I think all sports are ruined by the idea of managers and coaches. How stupid is a contest of athletics if you need some old, fat guy to dictate your every movie? I mean really. Who came up with that? I'm guessing an old fat guy.

I take it you don't watch sports at all, seeing as how ignorant this comment is ::). If you're on an (American) Football team and lets say your position is Quarterback then you should be able to naturally call a play. But if you're not as savvy as the likes of Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Ben Roethlisberger or any other marquee QB then how will you know that the defense won't pick up on what you're doing? What audible will you call when the D gives you a different look? It's not as simple/idiotic to just let the team on the field for 60 minutes of playing time just do whatever the hell they want on their own.
I don't find the manager style games to be entertaining but some people do and that's why they were created. But to say that "I think all sports are ruined by the idea of managers and coaches" is just showcasing how much of a jackass you are.

Just look at how shitty the Cowboys have done lately. Buttloads of talent, but no leadership.
Bioshock was $5 on Steam for a while, during some sale they were having. If you're planning on getting it for PC, I'd at least go check to see if it's still going on
Other than that i've been keeping an eye out for Bioshock. I've wanted to play that since it was released, and i see that a sequel is on it's way... so now may be the time.

I've been playing Fable 2 for awhile and I never played the first one. I'm enjoying the hell out of it, but there are apparently a lot of advantages to playing the first one, including a chest you find in part 2 that you can use to pick up your Fable 1 character's equipment from.
I'm not sure how it works for sure, since I haven't tried part 1 yet, I just know I found a chest that when I tried to open it gave me a message about inheriting from an ancestor and going to fable2.com for details...trying to look it up now, I can't figure it out at all. I might be wrong here about what that means. No you go on the website and there is a flash story thing you do, and from you choices you unlock different things, and that'll be in that chest.
Well damn. My idea was cooler.
Spider-Man 2 makes me nauseous.
...nauseated is a noun

Bioshock is great, I heartily recommend it.

Seconded. Really a very good game.
Incidentally, of my long list from before, I went with Fallout 3. I started last night and got out of the vault, but had to stop there. Seeing the D.C. wasteland spread out before me at the cliff like that filled me with a weird combination of anticipation and dread for the hours to come.
Yes, you do.
Yes, you do.
OK, done. Just ordered it.
Jeez, Chaos, you're persistent. Maybe you could lay off a bit the next time I express interest in a game. I'm not used to people putting so much pressure on me. ;)
It's pretty great, and the DLC for the 360 version will be coming out over the next 3 months, which looks really interesting.

Yeah, I played for maybe three hours last night before having to physically tear myself away from it and go to bed, and it is pretty damn great.
At this point I should probably move my discussion over to the Fallout 3 topic, but whatever, I'm here now, so here are my very, very minor complaints so far. Everything else is pretty much golden:
-God, that third-person view is awful. Seriously, it's worse than Oblivion, and that was like three years ago. Dude looks like he's floating above the ground.
...oh wait. That was it.
Other than the fact that I really wish I was playing it on PC (mouse and keyboard would be ideal for control), but my machine is a bit outdated and it looks so damn pretty on my tv.
I'm blazing through the Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People series right now. Every episode so far has been twice as good as the last. If it keeps this up, episode 5 could be the best game ever. :^)
Say folks,
Do you have a 360? Have you played Mass Effect yet? If not, good news. On the 10th of February, we'll see a 2 Disc Platinum Hits edition of Mass Effect appear, with the main game on disc one, and various other stuff on disc two. Documentarys, clips, etc. Oh, and Bring Down the Sky will also be on there. And all for the low price of $20. It's a great deal, if you haven't already picked up the game.
Ordered the cable. ;D At under $13 total for a cable and adapter, you just can't beat that in any physical store.I'm playing on the PC. Telltale offered me the whole series for $20 since I was a Sam and Max Season 2 customer. I HAD downloaded the first 2 on the Wii, so Telltale still has more of my money than they probably should, but getting a season pass on the PC means (If they keep doing what they've been doing) I can get the DVD with all the episodes on it when it comes out for free + Shipping. :^)I'm blazing through the Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People series right now. I'd love to get those, but at $10 each, that's just a bit much all put together.

Shining Force 2. On emulator, because I can't find my Genesis or any of my old Sega tapes.
I downloaded that demo and it bored the hell out of me.
Yeah, it's just Unreal Engine Game Clone #3029658 as far as I'm concerned. :P
I read your argument earlier about all the unreal games and I'd just like to make a point. While I would love it if Companies made their own engines, games are so expensive to make nowadays it's just unfeasible for companies to do that. Games have to sell a tremendous amount of copies to break even. Plus the Unreal engine is still pretty good.
Another point, I looked all over the LOTR: Conquest box and didn't see any mention of the Unreal engine, though it could be so common place nowadays they don't bother to advertise it. They may have used a suped up version of whatever Battlefront was made on (If the original Battlefronts were made using the Unreal engine than this paragraph will make me look like a dumbass, but I'm used to that.
VGA is that thing from the 80s, right?
Been playing the Halo Wars demo a little. The campaign is pretty good, the CG scenes in between missions is really cool.
The skirmish could use some work however. I was playing the Covenant and all my UNSC opponent did was spam scorpions(the tanks). Sad thing is, that worked. I made a mixed force, but his tank force was still very effective. Even when I was able to stop them he just kept spamming them. I even hit his economy early on. Frustrating.
Been playing the Halo Wars demo a little....
I finally downloaded Bring Down the Sky for Mass Effect. This is the first time I've used the MS point system and I have to say that I was a little annoyed to find that MS points are a little more expensive than expected. I've bought stuff on the Wii and the points make sense - 100 points = $1. But nooo, MS made it so 400 points = $5. Whatever.
It's probably nothing more than an attempt to disguise how much you're paying for a particular Xbox product.
God knows why, I'm terrible at Guitar Hero. :)I can relate to that. I got GH1 and 2 when they first came out, I was able to play all the easy tracks to 5 star performances, and maybe one or 2 medium songs but after that forget about it... I don't know maybe my hands or too small or maybe I'm just not coordinated enough. It pisses me off though I hate not having atleast 700 Achievement Points on each game... It makes me feel like the game beat me (and those 2 games didnt just beat me... they embarrassed me).

ps. my gamerscore still pwns you.... >:DYeah, now that football season is over though I plan to catch up on the games I missed.(During football season I only play Madden since I'm ranked in the top 300 online on the 360)
I've never understood the reasoning behind a "points" system is anyway. The Playstation Network simply uses dollar amounts for everything. It's very forward-thinking of them to use "Microsoft Points" years before they officially replace all currency.
It's so they can get more money out of you. Instead of just buying what you want, you have to buy a set number of points, which is always not quite enough for what you want or a bit too much.I've never understood the reasoning behind a "points" system is anyway. Wait, are you saying that getting certain acheivements will get your microsoft points, which you can use to purchase things in the marketplace?
Which ending did you pick?
If I could go back, I'd pick the same. Its just not the same playing without that dog running around.

On Knothole Island...Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I've been playing my Guitar Hero: Aerosmith and loving it. Of course, I'm still playing on Easy to cut down on the frustration factor. Even played "Even Flow" on the demo of GH III I downloaded. Now I'm gonna have to get all of them.
Command and Conquer 3.
Boy this is fun and I can't believe how well they got it working on the XBox 360.
After a few missions controlling my army with the gamepad feels natural.
Good Job Westwood!

I got this for $10 for my PC, but I think I should've gotten it for my 360. The video lag is annoying and I have to dial down the graphics to get it to work on my ancient machine.
I beat GH: Aerosmith last night (on Easy). The battle with Joe Perry was won by almost luck alone, I think.
Workin on Tomb Raider: Underworld until my live broadcasted drunken adventure in play 50 Cent: Blood On The Sand
I'm still stomping my way though Valkyria Chronicles, but it got move to the side starting tomorrow morning for Street Fighter 4 for the PS 3.
Just grab controller 2 and resign yourself to being Robin. :^)
Im playing street fighter 4..... and I dont like it =(
Oh sure, but if it was two hot chicks playing air hockey, you'd be all over it.
I just started VC the other night and I love it. It gets very hard, very quickly, but it's the kind of hard I like. Challenging without being BS (I'm looking at you Endwar). There's a few tricky missions mixed in, but nothing too hard with some thought. I'm not big on RTSs so some missions I had to reload a few times till I figured out what I was doing wrong, or I cheated and great a hint off of internet.

Hey, I freely admit that games with scantily clad women will get my attention. After all, a quick look at my Gamercard shows that I've been playing a game about bikini-clad zombie killers. But after spending 20 minutes trying to figure out where the caller actually was, it simply became an exercise in annoyance. Which is kind of like a real date, I guess.
But I probably would buy Dead or Alive: Xtreme Airhockey.

You've got Onechanbara? Heh. Despite the reviews, I still wanna play it. :)

MST, I know exactly what you mean. I can't stretch my fingers fast enough to reach the fifth note, so when I move my hand to get there, I get utterly lost as to where my hand is on the neck afterwards. For a few songs, I just ignored the fifth note, and found I could at least complete the songs adequately (with star power), but that's not really in the spirit of Guitar Hero. :)

Meh. That feels too much like work. :)

Exactly. I don't want to practice to play a friggin video game.
