Title: AmandaGal, the KITT car is up for sale!!!
Post by: RandyMistie on April 02, 2007, 05:25:21 PM
I know AmandaGal loves her some KITT from "Knight Rider" so I thought this article would interest her...

DUBLIN, Calif. (AP) - KITT, the flame-throwing, river-jumping, talking muscle car from the '80s TV show "Knight Rider," is up for sale. Restored to its debut-season glory, the modified black 1982 Pontiac Trans Am is offered at $149,995 at a Dublin auto dealership. Johnny "Vette" Verhoek of Kassabian Motors has had the car, officially called Knight Industries Two Thousand, on display for about a month.

It is one of four documented "camera cars" used for close-up shots and scenes where David Hasselhoff, who played Michael Knight in the series, was behind the wheel.

Although it cannot achieve the 300 mph speeds that KITT reached, soar 50 feet in the air or throw smoke bombs, key features of the star car are intact. Perhaps most important, the red scanner light on the nose glows and makes a humming noise.

The car has two working video screens on the dashboard, and the cockpit features buttons that light up in green, yellow and red: ski mode, rocket boost, micro jam, silent mode, oil slick and eject.

Most of the buttons don't do anything, Verhoek said. Nor can the car hold a conversation or drive itself...

I like the way they point out that the car can't drive itself or hold conversations with you.  I mean, if you can afford the 149k price tag you'd think you might be smart enough to figure that out, huh?  Oh well...

I saw the AP wire article and thought AmandaGal might like it...

Thanks!  I saw that earlier today because two of my friends sent it to me...you'd think I was obsessed [hides her Knight Rocker record].  I was thinking that maybe if I took 2 jobs I could afford it.  If I only I were rolling in dough instead of being a poor student.  Actually though, I think it'd be fun to build my own but I'm weird like that.  I don't know how one would get the Hasselhoff smell out anyway.

A while back on ebay they had a KITT stunt car for sell.  It went for much less than this one is going for but I remember it only had a 2 gallon gas tank and something was weird about the engine because it was a stunt car.

So, if anyone wants to get me a graduation present, I can tell you where to ship it . . .  ;)

LOL, yeah, I figgered someone else mighta sent it to you, or that you had seen it elsewhere.

Well, for what it's worth, if I had that kinda dough, I'd buy it for you.  I'm like that...  I'd even de-Hasslehoff it for you!

Didn't they dedicate an entire Seinfeld episode to trying to de-Hasselhoff Jerry's car?

The Hasslehoff smell? What's that? Aqua Velva and career desperation?

Just too awesome.

But you'd have to dress as the Hoff circa 1982 to complete the package!

Oh, how I'd love to show up to a costume party in that get-up, driving up in KITT, getting out, and hooking my thumbs around my belt, complete with large buckle, tight jeans, and a Members Only jacket... Thich, feathered hair blowing in the wind...

 ;D

Hey man, every kid in the early 80s wanted to be David Hasslehoff!

Ah, I love the look of the 3rd generation Trans Am, right up till 91, then I can't stand the noses.  Pretty sweet lookin cars, although the old 5.0 V8s in the 82s were lackin some power.  I have a black 1986 Trans Am that everyone keeps telling me to turn into a Knight Rider replica.  Haha that would be sweet.
