Title: LOC - Top 53 Most Requested Rifftrax of 2014
Post by: Compound on April 23, 2014, 11:25:36 AM
Here's how it works!

Participants were asked to send  a list of your 25 movies they wanted to see a Rifftrax for. 10 ballots were received, and the movies were ranked on a point system allowing 25 points for a #1 choice, 24 for a #2, and all the way down to 1 point for #25. The points were added up, and what follows are the selections.

Tiebreakers work like such: If two movies have equal pointage, the movie that appeared on the most lists ranks higher. If those movies appeared on the same amount of lists, then the film ranked higher on the individual list got the higher spot. A movie that was someone's #4 beats another person's #6, for example. And then if titles  were tied, a random choice was made.

Please don't post your lists until the entire list is posted.
Please do complain/kick yourself/pontificate as much as you want, because that's the point!

The Top 50 (53 really) Movies You Want Rifftrax to Riff Countdown 2014 begins now. Let your conversations begin.

Anyway, here we go. BTW- "Mystery poster"? I got your list but can't find the message it came from so I don't know who actually sent it in. If you recognize your submission, let me know.

Since it's a comedy it is unlikely to be riffed. At least by Rifftrax anyway. But I should have had this movie on my list. It's baaaad. And a complete waste of Eddie Izzard.

As the children relate their adventures to their father, George, he becomes irate and orders them to speak of Poppins no longer, dragging them along to his bank. Unfortunately, the children start a run on the bank, and the children are lost in the chaos, ending up in London's East End. There Bert finds them and brings them back home, where Mrs. Banks asks him to look after the children on Poppins' day off. The children are whisked away to the rooftops where a gathering of chimneysweeps lead them dancing across London. George is suspended by the bank, but he realizes that his children are more important than his job and returns home, laughing. At that point, Poppins must leave as the wind has changed. And so she leaves as her intellectually distinct cousin, Shari, heads towards Springfield USA.”

And yes, yes.

http://www.rifftrax.com/iriffs/cinester-theater/cinester-theater-presents-back-future

In a desperate search to find a relationship creepier than an old mad scientist and a teenage boy, Doc Brown invents a time machine so the teenage boy can go back and make out with his teenage mother. Much adventure, Lea Thompson cleavage, high school bullies in their mid twenties, and retribution via manure ensues.

This movie is most known for: Started the trend of white wild hair that became so popular in the 80s among men in their 80s.
     Redefined the term "shitfaced".
Introduced the world to Crispin Glover. No amount of appologies will ever be enough.

Noted riffs:
(Who is that guy? I don't know, but I'm going to find out.) --- "with my vagina"  [this riff was a huge hit with the 6 year old in our group we accidentally watched this riff with]
(I've got to tell you about the future!) --- "It rules! We got Nintendo!"
"I finally got rid of that damn dog!"
(Doc gets out of time machine for the first time, large cloud of smoke.) --- "Aint nuthin' but a G thing, baybe!"
"My turn!"
"I'll punch you."
"I've invented the Remote Control Vehicular Manslaughter Device."

About the riff: If there was ever a riff that disproved the "you can't riff a comedy" rule, it would be this one. (Thrifty, keep quiet!) A fucking hilarious movie and a genuine classic in it's own right. Yet the riff here truly only ADDS to the experience and complements it in a way that few riffing groups can. This is the riff that made Cinester Theater a MUST BUY for me, and I am really glad they eventually riffed the trilogy.

Available on Netflix Instant? No.

Oh. I wasn't aware there was one.

Here you go then:

Krull

When your movie is batshit insane, even by 80s fantasy pics, THAT is saying something! A buff hero with bumbling sidekicks who has to save a princess. Okay, that doesn't sound so crazy. But this has an appearing and dissapearing villain castle lair. And a cool five bladed frisbee thing that looks like it should have ironic "hands off" stickers all over it. Big humanlike bat creatures that dissolve people with their hugs. Yeah, it's a few sandwiches short of a picnic.

This movie is most known for: Um...it's fucking KRULL!

Noted riffs:
"The man loves his lime jello!"

Available on Netflix Instant? Yes

About the group: Another group I am unfamiliar with. But it takes some manly fortitude to sit through Krull enough to write riffs, so I will give them that. Not a particularly prolific group (only 3 so far).

Quote
The film has been almost universally panned by critics. Rotten Tomatoes' editorial staff ranked it #15 on their list of "Films So Bad They're Unmissable", stating "If Tommy Wiseau's The Room is the over-wrought, melodramatic and self-pitying heterosexual camp classic of choice, then Sam Mraovich's Ben & Arthur is its gay equivalent." Rotten Tomatoes went on to cite the poor production values and Arthur's "hissy fits", concluding that the quality of the film was so poor that "Mraovich might as well have shot his story of gay persecution and fightback on a cell phone". Pop culture review site insert-disc likewise compared it to The Room, stating "The Room was better than this. The acting, special effects, music, and writing are bad even compared to 'The Room.' The film is currently 29th on the IMDb Bottom 100.

The film also took particularly criticism from the gay community: The gay pop culture site Queerty called it "the worst gay movie ever", only to later retract the "gay" qualifier and simply declare it "worst. movie. ever." The gay movie review site Cinemaqueer likewise indicated that it was the worst film to have ever been featured on the site, suggesting that the film was too bad to even be parodied on Mystery Science Theater 3000.

Watched Krull for the first time a couple years ago.  It is a mess.  It is also a movie that's simultaneously interesting yet dull.  I watched it alone and didn't get much, despite a lot of craziness and stuff that, in theory, should have been guilty pleasure fun.  But I wasn't invested.  And it occurred to me that it would have been a great movie to watch with friends, to point out how ridiculous and faux cool it is.  A perfect choice for Rifftrax.

I ranked this one #25 on my list because I know MKB will actually do it eventually, and because I figured it would be on EVERYBODY'S list, because everybody is always complaining about how the series is unfinished and we need closure and such. Kinda wish I had ranked this a little higher now so it would have a higher ranking in this list, but what can you do?

I was so tickled when this one made it's debut last year. Kinda hoping that it would rank a little bit higher, but I am glad I was able to keep it on the list two years in a row. This is my favorite movie of all time, and I think it's the Holy Grail of movie riffing. If you can do this, you can do ANYTHING.

Synopsis:
“The door of the mental hospital opens, releasing Ricky from its confines. He takes with him the terrifying memory of his brother Billy's death and the burning image of Mother Superior-the powerful figure that brought about his brother's violent demise. For Ricky, starting a new life means avenging his brother's death. By whatever means necessary, whether it be the cutting edge of a shiny steel knife blade, or the electrifying charge of a set of battery cables, Ricky is set in this blind journey of revenge leading ultimately to Mother Superior. As Mother Superior prays in the dark, we suggest she say an extra prayer for herself, because not even her faith will be enough to stop Ricky. But prayers will do little for in the silent part of this night! “

"Year 1873. In Silver City, Arizona Territory, Apache Indians and Western settlers must lay their differences aside when an alien spaceship crash lands in their city. It all begins when a stranger (Daniel Craig) with no memory of his past stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. The only hint to his history is a mysterious shackle that encircles one wrist. What he discovers is that the people of Absolution don't welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron—fisted Colonel Dolarhyde (Harrison Ford). It's a town that lives in fear. But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky. Screaming down with breathtaking velocity and blinding lights to abduct the helpless one by one, these monsters challenge everything the residents have ever known. Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation. As this gunslinger slowly starts to remember who he is and where he's been, he realizes he holds a secret that could give the town a fighting chance against the alien force. With the help of the elusive traveler Ella (Olivia Wilde), he pulls together a posse comprised of former opponents—townsfolk, Dolarhyde and his boys, outlaws and Apache warriors—all in danger of annihilation. United against a common enemy, they will prepare for an epic showdown for survival."

Suddenly, those heroes both still in action and retired find themselves targets by an unseen enemy, who wants to kill them one by one. A complex, multi-layered mystery adventure, the film is set in an alternate 1985 America in which costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society, and the “Doomsday Clock” – which charts the USA’s tension with the Soviet Union – is permanently set at five minutes to midnight. When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the washed-up but no less determined masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes. As he reconnects with his former crime-fighting legion – a ragtag group of retired superheroes, only one of whom has true powers – Rorschach glimpses a wide-ranging and disturbing conspiracy with links to their shared past and catastrophic consequences for the future. Their mission is to watch over humanity…but who is watching the Watchmen?"

Hooray! Here's my list. If I were writing it today, I'm sure it would be different, but not by much. :) This is a list of movies that I genuinely like, ones that I love because they are so terribly awful, and ones that I despise with every fiber of my being. The last category is my least favorite and I am not terribly inclined to watch them under any circumstances, which is why Mortal Kombat: Annihilation is not on here. I don't want to see that movie ever again for as long as I live, even with a riff. It is foul, offensive and reprehensible in every cinematic sense and does not deserve a riff. There, I said it. Anyway. Here is.

#1 – The Ten Commandments
#2 – Ben & Arthur
#3 – Mary Poppins
#4 – Watchmen

#5 - The Shawshank Redemption
#6 – Pulp Fiction
#7 - The Lion King
#8 - The Dark Knight Rises
#9 – A Few Good Men
#10 – Mortal Kombat
#11 – The Masonic Map
#12 – Skyfall
#13 – The Little Mermaid
#14 – Beauty and the Beast
#15 – The Shining
#16 – Star Trek Into Darkness
#17 – The Man Who Wasn't There
#18 – Super Mario Bros.
#19 – The Breakfast Club
#20 – Downfall
#21 – The Wizard
#22 – The Master
#23 – Pod People
#24 – Troll 2 (an MKB edition)
#25 - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part 2)

Look at how crazy different all our lists are. I think it speaks to the sort of audience RiffTrax attracts. It's niche, but the niche draws from A LOT of different other niches.
