Title: Wii U
Post by: Sugar Ray Dodge on June 26, 2013, 08:25:52 PM
Thinking about getting one. I currently have an XBOX 360 and a Wii (for the current generation.) Previous generations hooked up to the TV also include the FC Twin, Nintendo 64 and the Playstation 2. If you have a Wii U or disapprove of Wii U's, and if you care enough to share, please share :)

I'm thrilled with my Wii U. The library's a little light right now, but there's a lot of awesome coming in the pipes. The second screen is a godsend for anyone that has to share the TV. If someone needs to watch their program, I can just boot up Super Metroid or even New Super Mario Wii U and play through the second screen, so it's actually getting a lot more use than all the consoles that take up the TV.

I'm definitely getting one at some point hopefully soon. I'm a bit cash strapped, but I've been saving all the Best Buy gift cards I've received from birthdays, Christmas, etc. as well as any spare change I have for it.  I'm about 2/3 of the way there for the Deluxe set.

So, to the 4 people in North America who own a Wii-U (yes, that's a joke) ,  Target seems to have leaked the release dates of the upcoming Wii-U games:

Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD (Wii U (http://www.justpushstart.com/tag/wii-u/)) – October 4
 Wii Party U (Wii U) – October 25
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (Wii U) – November 15
 Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds (3DS (http://www.justpushstart.com/tag/3ds/)) – November 22
 Super Mario 3D World (Wii U) – December 6

Yeah, one Zelda game is 3DS. Meh. Sue me.

I've been sitting here with a couple games for Wii U that I got off of Goozex.com (while trying to unload all the points I had on there).  They're just taunting me...

So once I FINALLY get my Wii U I'll already have Arkham City & ESPN Sports Connection.  And also Armikrog once that comes out thanks to the Kickstarter.

I love my Wii U, currently playing Pikmin 3 (Pikmin is my favourite Nintendo franchise - and that's really saying something - and I bought the system mostly in excitement for this game) Also playing Earthbound which I had never played before. Excellent!

Thinking about making the Disney Infinity plunge today, though I wish my son was old enough to play it with me.

I'm intrigued by Disney Infinity as well especially since they added Agent P.  Fingers crossed on adding Gravity Falls characters!

Wish I could play earthbound again for the first time.  I'm interested in Mother 4 though, the fan made sequel that is being made. Hopefully it can keep the same charm without relying too heavily on callbacks to the other games.

Price cut & elimination of "basic" model on September 20th!

Nintendo has announced a price cut for the Wii U today, stating that the Wii U Deluxe bundle will sell for $299 starting on September 20th. The Wii U Basic model has also been cancelled. The limited edition Wind Waker HD bundle will retail for this new price point, which includes a new deluxe model, the game, a digital copy of Hyrule Historia, and the Zelda-themed GamePad.
Here’s what Reggie Fils-Aime had to say about the price cut:
“It was critical for us to have a strong software lineup to support Wii U. With that in place this holiday season, we believe providing consumers that extra incentive in terms of a $50 price cut is really going to help drive momentum.”
This looks like the start of the Wii U’s renaissance, as the 3DS made a big come back once a price cut and the Ambassador program were announced. Nothing similar has been announced by Nintendo for the Wii U, but we’ll keep you updated.

WOOT! That puts me $50 closer to picking one up before Armikrog comes out! (Currently sitting on $190 worth of Best Buy gift cards)

If anyone is looking to get one of the Pro controllers, you can get them for around $9.99 if you are lucky.

Best Buy has the white pro controllers on clearance at a bunch of stores.  (Instructions for how to get them on the link. Also stumbled across a Nintendo brand silicone case for the game pad for $1.99 while I was checking out the sale.)

I saw that they were re-releasing Wind Waker like that, and I thought "Why are they doing that for THAT game? Why don't they re-release Ocarnia of Time?" I wasn't a big fan of Wind Waker, but I'm not telling anybody else not to like it, I get that people have different tastes than I do, but I still kinda wonder why OoT isn't getting this treatment.

Haven't they re-released OoT a few times by now?  I remember having it on Gamecube, and they updated it for 3DS not too long ago.  I'm not a huge fan of Wind Waker either, but every now and then I guess you gotta remake something else.

Yeah, but OoT would be a more attractive bundle. At least for me.

I was going to pick one up today on my lunch break, but ended up going home sick from work with a nasty migraine.  Just got up from a nap to try and sleep it off to discover that on Nov. 1st they're doing away with the Nintendo Land bundle and releasing a Super Mario Bros U (And Luigi U) bundle.

Guess I'll wait a few more days!

Nintendo Land is worth getting though. I spent a lot of time on it, and it's really fun in a group. :)

I plan on it. Those types of games are fun to play with my kids.
Nintendo Land will only be $30 vs the $60 for Mario and whatever the Luigi one that I had no plans on getting is. So I have no problem waiting a week to save some money.

I actually haven't played Pikmin in a long time, so that is definitely tempting.

What about Animal Crossing? I was disappointed with the Wii version, I felt like it didn't live up to the Gamecube version. Is there a Wii U game planned or is there already one out there? I'd use Google, but it's just so damn hard.

No Animal Crossing announced for the Wii U yet - The latest DS one only came out quite recently. I am thinking it'll be a year or two before the Wii U one.

Yeah, most likely. I think it might be better for me to just replay the Gamecube one since I hold it in such high esteem instead of getting a new one that I won't like and will most likely complain very loudly about while everybody else doesn't give a damn about what I say and enjoys it. Choosing battles and so on, y'know. I like to think that I live and let live with this kind of stuff a lot more than I used to. It really is the best policy and less people hate your guts, y'know.

Fair enough - Was there an Animal Crossing game you didn't like? I found the three I've played to have such minor differences that, if anything, that was my complaint :P

Well, my problem with the Wii version was that at first it feels like you're replaying the Gamecube game almost verbatim and I was all like "why am I playing this? I already played this game." And, personally, I found the interface to be a downgrade to the point of being frustrating, so I just gave up. I just didn't feel like I was accomplishing anything, which is saying something for somebody who LOVED the Gamecube game.

I'm SORT OF having the same problem with New Super Mario Bros. U in the way where I haven't felt like they have really done anything they didn't already do in the DS and Wii games. It's been visually stunning and challenging, that's for sure, but until tonight I haven't felt the same sense of re-discovery and sort of childlike wonderment of playing in a 2D Mario world again. But that changed just about an hour ago when I entered the final stage of the story mode and...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And, to be fair to NSMBU, it has a lot of really creative and challenging Boss Fights. The Battle with Ludwig I thought was particularly brilliant. I haven't tried the Luigi side of things yet, but I've heard it's crazy hard, so that has the possibility of lifting the entire experience into its own. So I haven't given up hope yet, and frankly, I gotta say, things are looking up for it. :)

Killer. Yeah, right now the only game I have is New Super Mario Bros. U with the Luigi expansion that came with the bundle. I think the idea of playing Luigi, Toad and Peach the way they should be played (like in Mario 2) is what attracts me the most.

Lame... Looks like when Nintendo dropped the Nintendo Land bundle and said "The game is now $30 in stores and on the eShop!" they actually meant "We're pulling it from the eShop and making it retail only!"

I had $30 in my eShop account for the game & it's not available anymore.  :-\

From the Mario Kart 8 Nintendo Direct:

Quote
Not wanting to leave loyal fans out of the mix, Nintendo has announced a new digital game promotion for anyone who registers the game to Club Nintendo before July 31. Those that do will be able to choose from a handful of games to receive for free, including:

North America Club Nintendo
Pikmin 3
Wii U Party
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD
New Super Mario Bros. U

Europe Club Nintendo
Nintendo Land
New Super Mario Bros. U
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
Game & Wario
Pikmin 3
The Wonderful 101
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD
Sonic Lost World
Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games
Wii Party U

For those wondering, the offer also applies to digital purchases of Mario Kart 8, so don’t hesitate if you prefer your game library to be available digitally.

Oh and while we're talking Wii U, what's all 3 of you who own a Wii U's Nintendo ID? Because we WILL have to revive some Rifftrax Mario Kart racing!  (Mine is onewallcinema)
