Title: Top 50 Most Requested Rifftrax of 2013
Post by: Compound on February 04, 2013, 06:20:15 PM
Here's how it works!

Participants were asked to send  a list of your 25 movies they wanted to see a Rifftrax for. 24 ballots were received, and the movies were ranked on a point system allowing 25 points for a #1 choice, 24 for a #2, and all the way down to 1 point for #25. The points were added up, and what follows are the selections.

Tiebreakers work like such: If two movies have equal pointage, the movie that appeared on the most lists ranks higher. If those movies appeared on the same amount of lists, then the film ranked higher on the individual list got the higher spot. A movie that was someone's #4 beats another person's #6, for example. And then if titles  were tied, a random choice was made.

Please don't post your lists until the entire list is posted.
Please do complain/kick yourself/pontificate as much as you want, because that's the point!

The Top 50 (55 really) Movies You Want Rifftrax to Riff Countdown 2013 begins now. Let your conversations begin.

Oh, I guess that I'll stick the completed list here as well when the list ends, since I forgot to add a post for it.

Some good choices here.  Surprised the Terror wasn't done around the time when they did Little Shop of Horrors and The House on Haunted Hill.  It's not as well known, but it has some BIG names that the guys usually don't have fun with and it is in the public domain.   Surprised Flash Gordon was so low.  I forgot it about it as well.

Vertigo would be interesting the see riffed.  Especially the last scene, which does have the desired shocking effect, but is admittedly silly as well.

88 Minutes is awful.  I don't know if I want to see a riff of it, but I could see it working.  I do recommend the discussion of it on the podcast How Did This Get Made?

I remember Alienator.  I wouldn't be surprised if this happened.  Also, I don't think the creators know what alienate means.

Sean is now a deputy in Amity. One night, during the Christmas season, Sean is called to untangle a log from a buoy, and when Sean goes to the buoy, he's killed by a great white shark. After hearing about this, Michael, who is studying to be a marine biologist, visits Amity with his wife Carla and his 5-year-old daughter Thea. Wanting to get away from Amity and spend Christmas with Michael, Carla, and Thea, Ellen goes with them to their house in the Bahamas on an airplane whose pilot is Hoagie Newcombe, and Hoagie starts falling for Ellen. Last year's #18: Cowboys & Aliens -(2011)

Synopsis:
"Gather close so you might harken the story of Fat Neil. Born stout of heart but large of bone, his adolescent years were shadowed by scorn and mockery. Outlets of fantasy afforded him some escape from the darkness throughout high school and as a man he travelled far to a new school and a new beginning. Or so he thought. The name became a joke. The joke became his life. And Neil fell again into darkness. But this time his thoughts turned to an escape into which we dare not speak.

But pain need not be spoken to be known. Not to all. It was strangely Jeff the Liar, son of William the Barely Known, who first became concerned. It was Jeff who pretended to be interested in Dungeons and Dragons in an effort to lift Neil's spirits. And when Jeff's fake interest resulted in Neil giving Jeff all his books explaining 'He wouldn't need them anymore,'  it was Annie the Day Planner, herself a recovering head case, that recognized the signs of coming doom.

A council was called - Troy the Obtuse. Shirley the Cloying. Abed the Undiagnosible. Britta the Needlessly Defiant. For reasons that should be obvious Pierce the Insensitive, known also as Pierce the Dickish and Grandpa the Flatulent, was not invited.

The group agreed that what Fat Neil needed the most was to feel like a winner for a change. They would invite Neil that Saturday for a game of Dungeons and Dragons designed by Abed to help Neil reclaim his confidence.

At the end of the meeting they realized that Chang had been there and felt too awkward to mention it.

What they couldn't have known was that they had just scheduled the most important game of Dungeons and Dragons ever. A game which might not only just save a life but might forever change the balance between good... and Pierce."

Synopsis:
"Year 1873. In Silver City, Arizona Territory, Apache Indians and Western settlers must lay their differences aside when an alien spaceship crash lands in their city. It all begins when a stranger (Daniel Craig) with no memory of his past stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. The only hint to his history is a mysterious shackle that encircles one wrist. What he discovers is that the people of Absolution don't welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron—fisted Colonel Dolarhyde (Harrison Ford). It's a town that lives in fear. But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky. Screaming down with breathtaking velocity and blinding lights to abduct the helpless one by one, these monsters challenge everything the residents have ever known. Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation. As this gunslinger slowly starts to remember who he is and where he's been, he realizes he holds a secret that could give the town a fighting chance against the alien force. With the help of the elusive traveler Ella (Olivia Wilde), he pulls together a posse comprised of former opponents—townsfolk, Dolarhyde and his boys, outlaws and Apache warriors—all in danger of annihilation. United against a common enemy, they will prepare for an epic showdown for survival."

A complex, multi-layered mystery adventure, the film is set in an alternate 1985 America in which costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society, and the “Doomsday Clock” – which charts the USA’s tension with the Soviet Union – is permanently set at five minutes to midnight. When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the washed-up but no less determined masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes. As he reconnects with his former crime-fighting legion – a ragtag group of retired superheroes, only one of whom has true powers – Rorschach glimpses a wide-ranging and disturbing conspiracy with links to their shared past and catastrophic consequences for the future. Their mission is to watch over humanity…but who is watching the Watchmen?"

"The Year is 2139. The Planet Earth has changed into a virtually uninhabitable place called the "Cursed Earth". All of the Earth's population have crowded into the cities across the planet, now known as "Mega Cities". The crimes in these "Mega cities" became so violent and so powerful, that the regular justice system was powerless to contain, then it collapsed completely. But, a new Justice System came from the ashes, They were 3 justice systems in 1 (Police, Jury and executioner), they were called "Judges". In Mega City 1 (formerly, New York), There was a Judge, named Joseph Dredd, who was the toughest and most stringent Judge in history. One day, he was charged with murder. He was tried and sentenced to life in prison because of it. Then, Dredd found out that it was in fact a person who shares his DNA. Former Judge Rico. Now, Dredd has to find out what Rico is planning to do, and to discover about his past."

Now do Garbage Pail Kids if you really want to bring the pain.
