Title: Which Disney Princess Would You "Give the Royal Scepter"?
Post by: Steve-O on March 06, 2007, 10:32:03 PM
I already feel shame for posting this.

If it makes any difference, Sarcasm and Sharktopus totally put me up to it.

Now, see, that's just sick.

I feel a strange sense of pride knowing I had a hand in this.

But I'd rather have a hand in Princess Jasmine from Aladdin. :rimshot:

Seeing as Cruella deVille isn't on here, I'll go with Jasmin.

This is wrong on so many levels. But then, it wouldn't be fun if it wasn't ;) You should have an "other" category as well though. ::)

This may well be the most sensitive poll ever devised.   >:D

Although Jasmine has a great body, she's a spoiled brat who grew up in luxury, kinda like all those brats from MTV's Sweet 16 show. I wants none o' that!!

My vote goes to Ariel, in leg form. She's hot, and has a strong desire to be with a human man, who looks an awful lot like me.   ;)

Well, I always liked strong willed women that walk around in mens clothing, swing a sword and kill Mongols by the dozens. So it´s Mulan.

Hey, at least you kept it to Disney Princesses. You're not REALLY in the realm of sickness 'till you toss in Daisy or Minnie. Step into the Warner Brother library and you have to come to grips with the likes of Minerva Mink and Lola Bunny. THEN you're in sicktown... Uh. I mean Jasmine's hawt!

Or save everyone the terror of having to answer this difficult question and just throw Jessica Rabbit on the list.

You can learn a lot from audio commentary: Jessica Rabbit's cartoon element? Her breasts move the opposite direction that they should. :^)

Holly Wood from Cool World was quite attractive too...for a cartoon chick.

I go for Ariel, but don't make me choose which one.

Surely the thing about Ariel is that you can have both, depending on your mood.

Ditto for Mulan, if that's your thing.

Just so I don't seem like quite so much of a heinous chauvinistic bastard for starting this topic, I should point out that I chose Belle.  Why?  Because she's a strong, intelligent woman who has a will of her own, doesn't bow to convention, and refuses to let herself be dominated by man or beast.

I suspect she'd get on top, in other words.

Plus... y'know... nice taters.

Yeah, and most of the other characters in this list totally don't have the same qualities.

In many states here in the US, not a problem >:D...especially in the South.  And in Europe.

My personal vote is for Belle, because of all of them, she's the one I'd want to keep afterwards.  Mmmm, hotties who read....... ;D

True.  And I seem to recall that Snow White is supposed to be even younger.  I don't think any of the Princesses are exactly matronly.

Keep in mind, though, that many of these characters existed in Olden Tymes, when most women could be expected to be stricken with The Grippe, or The Catarrh, or The Vapors, or The Wasting Sickness, by age thirty.  You had to work fast.

So who did you vote for, Lady?

Lol - this thread is so wrong

Anyway - not that I'd give the "royal sceptar" to anyone /before/ marriage -- but as far as cool girlfriends ala Disney goes:

#1 Choice - Jasmine Why? I dunno - something about the adventurous exotic type seems Oh-so cool, no? Besides, who wouldn't want to go out with a belly-dancing tiger-owner? That's cool, man...

#2 Choice - Mulan Why? Dude -- she has a thing for swords and blowing up stuff -- AND she's Asian! That's a win-win situation as long as you stay on her good side =)

#3 Choice - Belle Why? She's smart AND cute. I mean, she likes to read and isn't ditsy. And honestly, how many Disney princesses have started out a movie by saving the male persona from evil wolves?

Lol - of course we don't condone you actually looking for pics of the princesses having fun together -- just to make a mod-on-the-record statement =P

PS - If Disney went totally dark on us, and hired say....Don Bluth to redo their animated features, Mulan would have the best potential for being a rockin' good movie....
PPS - Is Mulan actually a princess? I don't think she was awarded the title at any point in the movie =P

For those of you having difficulty making a decision, here are some points to consider:

Snow White
Pros -
  • Fairest of them all.
  • Into short dudes, ménage ŕ huit.
Cons -
  • Prefers sex to be over quickly ("Some day my prince will come") -- for some of you this might actually be another pro.
  • You have to dress up like an old lady if you want her to take a taste of your apple.

Cinderella
Pros -
  • Enjoys kinky footwear, balls.
  • Does not discriminate against the severely disabled -- in fact, she'll gladly ride a vegetable.
Cons -
  • Every time you mention your "dong", she runs out of the building.
  • The mice like to watch.
  • At the stroke of midnight, her herpes comes back.

Sleeping Beauty
Pros -
  • No competition; her only friends are fairies.
Cons -
  • Not very lively in the sack.
  • Has an understandable aversion to little pricks.

Ariel
Pros -
  • She's got legs.  She knows how to use them.
  • Won't insist that you talk afterwards.
Cons -
  • All the Summer's Eve in the world won't get rid of that salmony smell.
  • Has crabs.  Talking crabs.

Belle
Pros -
  • Unlikely to make fun of your thick carpet of unsightly back hair.
  • Willing to experiment with various household objects.
Cons -
  • Before she'll let you touch her, always demands that you, "Put on the bear suit!"
  • French.

Jasmine
Pros -
  • Favors skimpy, loose-fitting clothing.
  • Hourglass figure.
  • Likes to play with your monkey.
Cons -
  • Already wise to the trick where you tell her if she "rubs the lamp", a genie will pop out.
  • That damned sand gets everywhere.

Pocahontas
Pros -
  • Happy to guide you through her sacred hunting grounds.
  • You don't grow up as the daughter of Wahunsunacock (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chief_Powhatan) without learning a few things.
Cons -
  • Won't let you get her anywhere near a blanket.
  • Has many large, male friends who regularly carry hatchets.
  • At 12 years old, even violates age of consent laws in Burkina Faso.

Mulan
Pros -
  • Knows how to handle a spear.
  • Familiar with a great number of ancient Chinese secrets.
Cons -
  • Could easily kick your ass.

Hope this helps!

Y'know, Steve-O m'boy, this just might be the funniest post on this here forum to date!!

Okay, excuse me while completely 'geek-out' here, and say while Meg from Hercules is no more a princess than Mulan, perhaps she should get an honorable mention.  I think that she has been used sparingly in the past as part of the whole 'Disney Princesses' line of merchandise back when I worked for McDonald's.  Other significant contenders in the yet to be established line of 'Disney Commoners' would go to Melina(sp?) from 'The Emperor's New School', as well a Kim Possible, She-go, and perhaps Bonnie from er, 'Kim Possible'.....

That being said, Ariel pranced around in less clothes than any Disney humanoid character to date and Eric was probably the foxiest of all Disney Princes and he got it on with her. So, Ariel would get my vote.

Last time I was at Disneyland, and I asked Cinderella for a photo, she said no.

That is why you shall NEVER receive my vote Cinderella!!! NEVER

Even Goofy said yes to a photo....sheesh....

To add to the list of unsung Disney femmes -- there's also:

- The White Fairy (Pinnochio)
- Tiger Lilly - The naughty Indian princess (Peter Pan)
- Tinkerbell (Peter Pan)
- Esmerelda (Hunchback)
- Patty Mayonnaise (Doug The Animated Movie)

And let's not leave out Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas (A goth-emo favorite =P)

No - she was walkign with her midget counterpart somewhere and didn't want to stop - so I guess the princess needed to take a royal dump or something - hah!

Goofy, Tigger, Pooh, Woody, Jack Sparrow, and a ton of others were mroe than happy to take a photo =)

but yeah - I definitely wasn't "reaching" for anything -- I was actually there with my girlfriend (of that time) and she was my main focus for the entire day =)  -- But yeah - that was pretty harsh of her, and she was the only princess that I asked for a photo.

Just so ya know, I picked the list that I did because those are the eight "official" Disney Princesses, as seen here. (http://disney.go.com/princess/html/main_iframe.html)

I went with that group for two reasons.  First, because I have a young daughter, I am forced to see their sparkly licensed visages on damned near every girl-related item that enters my home.  They're even on the girl's Pull-Ups; which is actually sort of satisfying, since the whole point of those is to pee all over them.  I have little doubt that my wife will someday take my daughter into the bathroom with a box of Ariel's Red Tide Training Tampons™.

Second, I figured that by sticking with the all-human (mostly) roster of Princesses, I wouldn't have to listen to somebody describe how he'd like to use Minnie Mouse's ears as handles.

she's not exactly Disney-scale, her proportions are a little deformed

she looks like a character from a Disney channel cartoon rather than Disney movie

Agreed, which worries me. This is how Disney returns to traditional animation?

Of course, they're probably still hammering out the design. Maybe it'll be more polished when it hits the big screen in a couple years.

Far be it for me to criticize a project I know nothing about, but I smell a movie based entirely off someone's complaint that there's no black Disney princess. At least they're going back to the tried-and-true fairy tale adaptation. Leave the the original stories to a studio with a spine.

Yeah, it sounds like they're forcibly trying to be ethnically diverse here.  Not that this is in and of itself a bad thing, but this reeks of the Princess Affirmative Action Program.

My experience is that little girls are little girls, and most of them just want to be pretty.  They like the idea of princessdom more than anything.  I worked at Disney World for a while and used to see girls of all colors running around in princess gear.  I thought that was pretty cool, that these kids just identified with the fact that Belle liked to read or Jasmine owned a tiger.  They saw beyond skin color and looked to what was really important:  Glitter.

If they're going to do this, why not base it on an African fable or something?  Then it would seem less panicky and more culturally authentic.  Or what about telling the story of Cleopatra (well, up until the snake part, anyway)?  Some think she may have been black.  At the very least, she wasn't lilly white.

Ah, my fond childhood memories of reading tales about the Princess of New Orleans... oh, wait a minute..

Title: Re: Which Disney Princess Would You "Give the Royal Scepter"?

Jasmine and Mulan weren't white either.  I agree with you, there are some great African fables/tales that could be told in the same vein as Aladdin or Mulan.  It looks they're going to bring in some of the Voodoo elements and such to make the story work though so it could be ok. I'll wait to judge.

Reading the summaries, I'm going to predict it's going to be taken as racist.  We have the first black princess and she's a chambermaid to a plantation owner, we have a white rich girl and the main black characters do voodoo.  Can you get more stereotypical?  I know Disney does that all the time but, I have a feeling there will be "outcry."

I, on the other hand, still like Song Of the South and want to tell people to shut up, it's just a movie for god's sake.

not to detract from your argument or anything but Cleopatra was white. Specifically she was Macedonian. She was the daughter of Alxeander's general Ptolemy, whom Alexander appointed pharaoh of Egypt. After he died, Cleopatra and her brother Ptolemy XIII became joint rulers.

whether you could call the inhabitants of ancient Egypt black Africans is a different argument. (I tend not to because they referred to Nubians as being the "dark" or "black" people)

Actually, I've done a lot of reading on Cleopatra-- she's fascinating-- and it's a subject of scholarly debate as far as her race.  Culturally, she was indeed more Greek than Egyptian, but there are some out there who think she was dark-skinned.  Me, I've never met her, so I can't say for sure :)

i wonder how heavily madri gras is going to play into this.  Everyone did notice that she is in new orleans, that alone might have political or at the very least social implications and modivators.  Maybe disney thinks new orleans needs something to look forward too and be happy about who knows.  I know this.  If the sound track isnt new orleans style jazz or zydaco (spelling) then ill have no real reason to watch it.

I'll tell you another potential controversy with this project as it currently stands:  Some Christain groups are not going to be happy with the portrayal of voodoo on religious grounds (although I think it could be interesting.)  Disney just might have a huge fight on its hands.

You know who might be cool to do a couple cuts  for the soundtrack?  Jimmy Buffett.  He played in New Orleans for a while in his early days and wrote at least two songs about it.  He has one of his Margaritaville restaurants there.

But there ain't nothin like pure, good Dixieland jazz.

While not a particularly popular one, the Frog Princess (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frog_Princess) is a traditional fairy tale, albeit one of Eastern European origin. I imagine that the magic in the story easily translates to voodoo, especially with a setting in New Orleans, although I doubt Disney will be brave enough to portray anything more than kid-friendly, Christian-acceptible magic tricks.

Yeah, I'm familiar with it, which is what makes me wonder why Disney think it will be OK to just superimpose a black cast over a European fairy tale.  To me that's a cultural ouch.  It seems like a wasted opportunity to me.

I think that explains my longtime, inexplicable hatred for Flounder. He got the money shot and we didn't.

And when the pelican (I think - some seabird) is trying to figure out what's different about her and says "New shells?" He was totally checking out her shells. ;)

Lion King was and still is the shiznit for our generation's animated cinema methinks. It had everything - Elton John, Matthew Broderick, Kung Fu monkeys, Cheech Marin and Whoopi Goldberg hyenas, Nathan Lane, Darth Vader as a lion, Jeremy Irons, bug-eating warthogs, tribal African sunrises with some sort of tribal yelled-song in the background -- sweet action man

I think this movie is waaaaaaaay overrated.  Hated the fart humor, the flat dialogue, the violence, the absence of any individual character development  (especially in the female lead-- where were the ladies in this film?), the damn Hakuna Matata song, the "circle of life" crap, the obnoxious Yoda ripoff monkey, and did I mention the farting?  The only cool thing was James Earl Jones doing the "Who's Your Daddy?" thing again-- and that wasn't even original.

Your milage may vary, of course.

Speaking of doing well financially, this was the highest-grossing film of the 20th century.  But if that's your measure of what makes a good movie,  I have one word for you:  Titanic.

Normal sucks to be sure.

(I had to bring a girl to the hospital the last time I went to a frat party because she thought her barely 100 lbs could handle doing a keg stand. I wouldn't have had any part of it but I was the only sober cab in the entire place.)

Which is why I wouldn't cast a vote for a mermaid. I mean, if they reproduce the way fish do, then that's gotta be the most BORING thing in the world to go out with =P

both the cinderrella guy and the sleeping beauty guy are almost the same, a strong moral charectar who is searching for mrs right and will not allow their parents to foist the wrong one on us, and will bravely battle anything in our way to get it.

hehe - I was thinking more along the lines that us guys would like to speak of ourselves as adveturous treasure hunters who win over the princesses in our lives ;)

Rather than the more one-dimentional characters.

Oooooh, good question.

My nickname on behalf of several friends is Tink, because she's my favorite Disney heroine:  The first Disney lady to not wilt perfectly around waiting for some stupid prince to come rescue her.  She got jealous and she took action!  Sabotage action!  She fought for her man!  And then she came roaring back to save the day.  You could do worse than TinkerBell.  Plus, that's a kickass second job she has-- starting the Disney World fireworks every night?  That's outstanding.

But Belle is a close second, 'cause she reads non-stop and (I must admit it) I"m part French.  Belle status confirmed when I discovered that the sports mascot of my alma mater is... wait for it... the Belles.

I'd have to say that I relate to Ariel.  She's adventurous and a dreamer.  She isn't satisfied and is determined to do what it takes to achieve her dreams. She's smart and inquisitive and doesn't take well to authority.  (I feel like I'm writing a horoscope)  That's me, always challenging the status quo and asking why it has to be that way, why can't it be like this?  I don't think I was really rebellious but I do try to shake things up.

Plus she has crabs, I mean...err...what?

I guess I relate to Belle too because I always have my nose stuck in a book but I think she also has some of the adventurous, strong headed qualities of Ariel.   Ariel seems to be more a dreamer though than a realist like Belle.  I guess I'm a little of both.  I can accept reality as it is but I do like to dream of a perfect world.

Talk about overanalyzing.

(I'm just kidding about the crabs part, gees).

Aw dude that is just nasty meecrob, She's not even remotely of legal age. And even
if we're talking about when she's 21 in the episode "Lisa's Wedding", she still doesn't
look THAT good. I mean there never were any regular characters on the simpsons who
were hot... except maybe maude flanders but that is still pushing it.

With cartoons you cant think of how the cartoon looks, you have to think more of what they represent.  especially in something like the simpsons where the style is a big part of it.  I dont think a REAL version of a simpsons char would have an underbite for example.

pudgy-comic-book-geek/director Kevin Smith named his daughter Harley Quinn Smith. that's kind of cool but its also kinda wierd to name your daughter after a character that's portrayed in comics (and cartoon) as this really sexy character in procative and criminal situations

it would be like naming your daughter Vampirella or Lara Croft

Sadly, Harley did not appear in Mask Of The Phantasm. I think they were going for a slightly darker Joker for the movie, and Harley diminishes Mistuh J's scary factor.

After giving it much thought I voted that I would make the beast with two backs with Belle. First, I love a chick with sass. Second, I love nerds, and in my fantasies Belle will be wearing glasses and reading a book. Third, she's somewhat plain compared to the other Disney Princesses, and that's right up my alley (no pun intended) as well. Fourth, Beauty & the Beast is BY FAR my favorite Disney movie of all time. Fifth, I'm hoping for a little three-way girl-on-girl-on-beast action.

It was a close race between her and Mulan (in either incarnation) since I have a proven track record of loving the Asians, but in the end Belle won out.

If you're planning to vote, be sure to check this part of the thread to ensure that you have all the necessary information at your fingertips.  An informed electorate is a (self-)satisfied electorate!

I read this earlier today and was quite impressed by the brilliant use of innuendo and double entendre. Cracked.com could only hope to aspire to this. Well done, sir!

I concur with this.  As fine a piece of humor writing as I have seen on these here internets.

And for some reason, I voted for Mu-man back when this was originally posted. Though I may have been under the influence of some sort of beverage.  I'm not really sure.    ???

And why he eats grapefruit with no sugar.

And why he teaches CCD.

And why he takes his car to the dealership for repairs.

Believe it or not, I actually labored over that stupid topic.  I ultimately dropped the "To" because, although clearly correct, it sounded a little unwieldy and high-class for a thread about humping drawings of teenagers.

That decision has haunted me ever since.

I've considered going back and renaming the thread, but that seems kind of silly after half a decade.  I think I'll just leave it out there, so that future generations may learn from my monumental shame.

As much as I adore this thread, I have to say that the title is giving me grammatical fits. It should be, "To Which Disney Princess Would You 'Give the Royal Scepter'?"

Technically, you're right. Colloquially, English often omits the "to" in these kind of sentences.  E.g., "Give me the rope."  'me' there is clearly the indirect object, despite the fact that there's no preposition there to make it that way.  So we could also phrase this "Give the princess the scepter," and, while somewhat awkward, we know from context that "princess" is the indirect object (and the fact that English seems be inclined to put the indirect object first in these kinds of sentences, as I'm thinking of other examples--if we say 'give the boy the girl' or 'give the girl the boy' in both those the first one is the IO; on the other hand, Brits say 'give it me', so who knows).  Turning that into the question gives us this title.  That's one of the things that's nice about inflected languages--that information is contained in the form of the noun or pronoun in question, so there's never any ambiguity.

That said, I'd probably have done it your way.

Saaaaaay.

When she's blonde, not on your life, with the brunette pixie cut, absolutely. :)

On Eric's bracket thing I voted for Mulan as she edges out the Native American minx due to not having B.D. Wong seranading her about manliness, there's just something whimsical about it all (plus I actually dig the theatricality of the song, fear if the LoC of Musicals ever makes it and Mulan is on it, just saying). :)

Huh, I thought your missus was blonde for some reason.

My first girlf was blonde and no complaints but her older sister was .... I really like brunettes.

Ah, she looks a bit like a friend of mine from college and Rowena's a natural blonde so that's probably playing into my perceptions there. :)

Someone actually asked this question?

Yes, and this entire thread is probably the best read  you will find on this forum, especially Steve-O's pros and cons list.

Which reminds me, I need to skip through this disgusting hive of depravity distributing likes in the manner of some sort of sleazy Easter bunny. :)

Yet you voted for Rapunzel over Merida...

You know, I've never dated or been intimate with a blonde, so I guess they're not my cup of tea either. Still, for a CG creation, she was a babe.

That's what I love about this place.  I suggest -once- that I'd like to bang Ygritte on Game of Thrones and reddit bans me. Fuckers.

There was also that cosplay photo doing the rounds a little while ago that would make me rethink my personal Disney princess choice in favour of Rapunzel, too:
