Here you go. Voting lasts for a week.
-
Oooh. Game Shows! They're an old passion of mine. To a couch potato kid of the '80s, Game Shows = Day off from school. :^)
-
I'm always up for food-based ones, but I would prefer simply "Top 50 Desserts" to Food With Chocolate (though it is versatile) and Game Shows would be fun (if there are any other Beat the Geek fans, I'm going to recommend The Paul Goebel Show, hosted by the former TV Geek.
But I'm going with musicals. That ones been in the wings for a while.
-
Even though I'm the one who nominated Game Shows, I voted for Musicals.
Ever since somebody mentioned this idea about six months ago, I've had this stuck in my head. I've been listening to Les Mis and Little Shop of Horrors over and over and it's driving me nuts!
-
Game Shows would be cool, but it just occurred to me that it's a bit similar to board games. I'm a stickler for variety. Whatever wins, I hope it is music-based.
Also, I watched Camelot recently. Not a bad movie, but it goes a bit long. It sort of slows down after the joust and doesn't really pick up until Mordred shows up. Some of the songs are a bit long and repetitive, but I think that's sort of intentional, in the same way that dance songs go really long: it's supposed to swallow you up and get you lost in the mood. Didn't quite work for me, but still enjoyable.

Pinkman has spoken.

I'm trying to decide which topic would promote the most discussion. The best countdowns are the ones where there's a lot of interaction. Nothing against tabletop games, and Compound did a great job on the countdown, but there's really not a whole lot there to talk about. Of course, it didn't help that only fourteen people participated.
The LOC needs a shot in the arm.
-
If it has to come between the two, I'd say Songs from Movies is more accessible and would get a lot more participation than musicals. Personally, I could easily pick 25 songs from movies that I love, but I'd really have to stretch to fill up a list of 25 musicals.
-
I can give you 3 right now: all the Parappa games.
-
When you say "Boom, Boom, Boom," I say "Bam, Bam Bam." No pause in-between. Come on! Let's Jam!
-
It's how I learned to drive. So many accidents.

Okay, I've been asked to post this regarding the musical choice:
"The big question for musicals; I believe Tripe was interested in contributing musically. Is he still? Anyone else want to get in on that action, like posting embeddable clips of yourself singing musical classics? THAT would be something people could talk about."
-
Sure. :)
I do wonder what counts as a musical for the purposes of that list.
-
I've already made a list for both music lists and am having trouble getting them in order.
I have over 50 on my songs from the movies list. Maybe I'll change my vote to musicals...
-

I was wondering that as well. I would have to assume opera still counts, but what about stuff like Ayreon, ie stuff that has no visual component. Arjen Lucassen releases rock/metal operas straight to CD. There's no stage production whatsoever. However, besides that, they have all the qualities of a musical.
-
Well, Jesus Christ Superstar started that way (and is still my favourite version) and A Shoggoth On The Roof still is in that format unless there have been some full professional productions I'm not aware of, and I love that one too. :)
-
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmuppets
-
About 24 hours to go. If you haven't voted yet, it'd be a good idea too. Guys who are currently on a thing that only has one or two votes, you might want to change your vote for one of the top 3, unless you want to make a statement or something (which is fine, especially if you have no interest in any of the other thingies).
-
Musicals is going to be tough because I can only think of like three that I'd put on the list. Still, I'll give it a shot. I would have participated in the board games but the time to submit votes was right after we moved and I couldn't get my head together.

Yeah, I went with Songs from Movies for the same reason. I don't think I've even seen twenty-five musicals in my entire life. It'd actually be the first time I wouldn't be able to submit a complete list. :-\
-
Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Singing In the Rain, and Sound of Music. Boom. There's my list.

No musical TV episodes? Cause they officially all have to do that now.
-
I don't think so. What tv shows have had musical episodes?
-
Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Daria, Scrubs, Simpsons (a few actually), South Park (also a few I believe), Grey's Anatomy (I didn't say they were all good shows), That 70's Show, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, and How I Met Your Mother, to name a few. There are also TV shows that are musicals, like Glee or Smash.
-
I have not seen a single full episode of any of those shows you named, so I doubt I can add tv musicals to my list.
-
you haven't seen a full episode of the simpsons? are you some sort of monster? :o
-
You've not seen Dr Horrible have you? Check that one out it has a bloke you like in it.
-
Actually, I think I watched most of the first season of the Simpsons, and then I lost interest. I've seen partial episodes of the other shows listed, enough to know I'm not interested in watching any more. I'm not really making any judgments about the people who do or do not watch those shows. Network television has been losing me more and more as time goes on.
My boyfriend Nathan Fillion is kind of like Matt Smith, in that I very much dig them as people but I am not into the shows in which they appear.
-

Oh my goodness! How could I forget all the delightful episodes of Glee I hold so near and dear to my heart???
If individual episodes of TV shows count, I could manage to add a few more between The Simpsons and South Park.
-
I don't mind including TV episodes, but do we really have to include stage productions? Because, isn't that pretty much ALL of them? Seems like that would constitute it's own list.
-

I'd agree that muscial TV shows are easier to find, also less chance of vomiting blood out of boredom to avoid the twee, cheesiness of most musical movies.

Yep, Titus Andronicus and Glengary Glen Ross were among my favourite musicals.

My complete lack of interest in musicals and... 'song and dance' movies is pretty well recorded I feel. I'd probably be able to throw a list together if TV eps were included because I love a lot of Simpsons songs, etc I just find most of the movies really boring.

So uplifting and positive, too. A real celebration of the human spirit.

I actually kind of agree with you but it looks like musicals is nearly a done deal.
-
Never say never. Wait you didn't. But still, I could see a last minute upset pretty easily.

Yep, it's waaaaaay different to Imrahil going around hating everything and you commenting on that.

Has it been decided TV shows won't be included?

Songs from movies could be fun, sure.

What the hell are you talking about? You hammer people for being too negative, and then pull the exact same shit. It's completely hypocritical. Do yourself a favor and buy some fucking self-awareness.

Fuck off, you and Im talk about me being 'pro-everything' more than I do. I have opinions and I chose to judge things after seeing them, these are not mutually exclusive.
Just because you disagree with me doesn't mean I'm going to take your bitchy bullshit, you might be able to scare new members off with it but I've seen your act enough to find it more sad than threatening.

I can't beleive we're really arguing about something this emotionally, in the suggest a LoC thread. No wonder Quirk left.

That's what makes it so ridiculous. You'll defend shit to the death (oftentimes just to be an antagonistic troll) as long as it's not something you happen to hate, then all bets are off and you're referencing vomiting blood. And again, if you had any sense of self-awareness, you would recognize the absurdity of your behavior. It's really quite comical.

Hyraxes feed on a wide variety of different plants, including both grasses and broad leafed plants. They also have been reported to eat insects and grubs.
How about a nice grub and spinach salad? Mmmmmm, grubs.

So.... tie. Now what?

So, I was thinking about a few things that have been said, some on here, some in real life, and I get the feeling my post in the Rargh Thread may have been misinterpreted... I in no way endorse division into factions, nor do I believe such factions exist, save in some people's minds. I mean, sure, it's easy to draw lines and identify "contingencies" based on whatever random commonality you want. It's easy, but it does no one any good. I know I, in the same post, mentioned humorless assholes, but I did not name names because everyone should try to avoid that pitfall (except Lucas M; that guy's a saint ;) )
So, while I appreciate that you feel singled out and kicked around, Scott—and I may even suspect you are to an extent correct overall (though I did not even read this particular dispute)—I don't think we should start mobs or...kick...pricks... Please don't make me into a Che Guevara; I look bad in berets...

How do you look on shirts? Can you write bad poetry? Cause two out of three aint bad.
