Adam Yauch, one-third of the pioneering hip-hop group the Beastie Boys, has died at the age of 47, Rolling Stone has learned. Yauch, also known as MCA, had been in treatment for cancer since 2009. The rapper was diagnosed in 2009 after discovering a tumor in his salivary gland.

You know you are getting old when the artists of your generation start passing on more and more regularly.  I guess this is something we will all have to get used to.

Still, 47 is too young to go.

Think I will bust out my copy of Licensed To Ill.

I'm always sad when I hear of someone so young dying -- the world has lost so much by their passing. No offense to Dick Clark but he was an old man who built a great career and legacy and we'd pretty much gotten everything we were going to get out of him. MCA was so young and the world will miss years of music from him now.

Sorry if I sound callous. Best wishes and my sympathies to his wife and daughter. Rest in peace, MCA.

I had no idea he was doing so poorly.  There's a lot of celebrity deaths that I'm bummed about, but they don't really affect me too much.  This one really has me bummed out.

He did announce that he had cancer in 2009. They delayed their last album and cancelled a bunch of shows. They thought it was treatable and I think they even made an announcement at one point that he was better. So sad.
