Title: Pokemon
Post by: Brak on March 02, 2007, 04:24:12 PM
I dont know if there was a discussion on this before or not but i just wanted to know what you have felt about this show. When i was in elementary school and jr. high it was the big thing. I still have all of my cards hanging around somewhere that im sure are worthless now. I used to get up early early in the morning to watch it before it was released in the afternoons. I havent watched the more recent episiodes. I really had fun playing the different versions of the gameboy game. I probably couldnt count how many hours and days i spent on that game.

Was there anyone out there that was like this? or anyone know of or have children that still watch this show?

My eight year old is loving Pokemon right now. His buddies are also into it, so they all geek out together.

Yeah i just didnt know if it had died away or what.  I still see people selling their pokemon cards on ebay, but i just dont know if i could get out of my cards the money that i wanted. :) lol they are all original or the first few expansions to the game that they released but it doesnt seem that they are as big as they once was.

how old are you brak?  Just out of curiosity.  I dont pokemon was in the mainstream until i was highschool.  maybe even mid highschool.

And i dont think the first edition cards are worth a whole lot, maybe first edition charizard but im not sure.

im 20. it was near the end of elementary and then jr high that i was into it. lol kids would call me Prof. Bill because i liked pokemon so much.  lol i can remember when 1st edition charizards were worth like 200 bucks. i have 2 of them now and im not even sure what they are worth now. maybe a few dollars if that.

Post by: sarcasm_made_Easy on March 02, 2007, 04:46:40 PM
probably ten to 20 bucks but thats a guess, the only way to really know is to get yourself a scrye.

Post by: Brak on March 02, 2007, 04:49:05 PM
yeah, there are times where i want to do the research and see if i can get anything out of my cards but then i ill switch and decide to just keep them and maybe let my kids have a go at them (when i have kids) and maybe teach them how to play and all of that.

yeah let me tell you from experience with MTG cards that you will never recoup even a small percentage from your cards, depending on the # of cards you have you might be able to sell them ALL for a 100 maybe even 200 bucks but chances are you spent WAY more than that when you bought them
Title: Re: Pokemon
Post by: Brak on March 02, 2007, 04:59:08 PM
lol yeah i guess that is why i should just plan on keeping them for my kids.  I had some uncles that were really into MTG in the 80's and they were smart and sold all of the good cards they got back then when they were worth something, but back in my younger years i got greedy and thought that by the time i reached the age that i am now that my cards would be worth so much more.  ;D doesnt look like it now does it?
Title: Re: Pokemon
Post by: sarcasm_made_Easy on March 02, 2007, 05:01:10 PM
actually bad news to your uncles, depending on what cards those were, first edition MTG cards are worth a fortune,  black lotus last time i checked was still 400 bucks and all the moxes and duel lands were worth 200 bucks

huh well i wont mention it to them. they probably have forgotten all about it anyway.  too many other things in their lives going on right now.

I'm 29 and love Pokemon. In my defense, I was hooked on the game MONTHS before it became a nation-wide phenominon. I even have a couple KFC stuffed Pokemon from before the show came out. :^)

I'm still waiting to see if they will release seasons on DVD like they have started too (i know they have single disks) for Dragonball Z. I always have liked to start a show from the beginning and then go through it until the end. must by why i get frustrated when i dont get jokes on some episodes of MST3K. lol oh well.

Actually, Viz Media did release Season 1 of Pokemon Indigo League. It covers episodes 1-26 on a three disc set.

The show once had an episode that invoked seizures in the children who watched it, and briefly had a character that was an obvious blackface stereotype. When I have kids, there's no way that I'll rot their brains with this crap.

That episode was altered so it wasn't seizure inducing by the time it ran in the states.

I'm familiar with all the pokemon and haven't ever seen a blackface stereotype pokemon...

Ignoring the fact that the Japanese in general have NO fucking idea what black face is.  OMG, it has a FACE that is BLACK, it MUST be racist!!!  There's simply no other explanation, it couldn't possibly be a coincidence.  It's a Japanese conspiracy against the black man whom the average Japanese has never met in their entire life!!

No, i get it.  You're completely unwilling to accept the fact that the similarities to blackface are purely coincidental, and thus are NOT racist.  But that would just TOO logical.

I love how as opposed to answering the questions posed by me and sarcasm, and actually having a discussion, you just repeat the same damn point that has been consistently refuted.  Alas, you do this with everything on the forum.  SO, I call shenanigans.

From here on out, any time Isaac tries to start an argument or make a point, I urge everyone to NOT RESPOND.  It's a waste of time for everyone.  Good day.

They kind of already have that in the arcade.  I've seen Para Para Revolution machines, but they aren't popular in the US.  It combines steps with hand motions.

Anyways, back on topic.  I was really addicted to the games in middle school.  My brother got me into it, and he was into the whole pokemon thing.  He bought the anime tapes, and got the card game.  The weird thing is, he's my older brother and was in High School at the time.   :-",

i even thought the show was ok before it turned into a massive hooplah.  Although the monster rancher was a much better show.

The card game however always irked me.  I wasn into magic the gathering, and always saw it as a usurper to its throne.  Especially since its such a dumbed down version of magic, and it requires a lot more luck (to many cards that rely on coin flips).

Ahh yes. I remember I first caught pokemon on its UPN 3PM run. I was simply entranced. From the moment I saw the song, I was fascinated in this new thing. I also understood on a deep level that the essential purpose of this show coincided with my cinematic desires: lots of quasimagical monster things

I woke up every morning at 7AM to catch it on the WB.

I can't remember when I stopped watching pokemon, but I think it was somewhere around the arc that came after the Jhoto episodes. I think I lost heart somewhere with the whole "lets ditch the original three 'starter' pokemon so that we can introduce the latest trio".

I cooled off on pokemon cards earlier, but frankly I think that a little randomness adds spice to a game. Random elements ensure that there's always a little tension and uncertainty, and even somebody who loads their deck with carefully selected, mass-approved highly expensive power cards has a chance to wind up with egg on their face. Call me a slacker, but I find appeal in that.

I agree.  It is crap.  I knew it was crap even during my elementary school years (when it was popular for some stupid-ass reason).  Still, they ought to give out automatic Emmys to voice actors who are actually able to make it through lines like "Chikorita!  Use your vine whip!"

Just reading it makes me titter. :D

I would get up at 7 myself to watch it.  I think i stopped watching it when i felt that my friends werent really into it.  I check www.tvshowsondvd.com to see if they have any news on stuff like that, but it does look like George Lucas is going to release the young indiana jones series on DVD. I dont know the date but hey ive always wanted to see how good or bad those were.

You almost just explained me at around that age too....  I still remember when I saw a pokemon card for the first time when I was in 4th grade.

I remember there was always those huge scandals with fake ones where if you could see through it it was fake.  There was a video rental place not far from my house that a friend told me about that was selling the originals after they had started that new jungle series or whatever that was selling them for $8 a pack I think, and I realized not long later that they were all fake...  I'm not sure where mine are anymore either though...  Probably with my pogs.

yeah they dont die or get maimed, they merely go back into the magical balls, that are basically a japanese version of those traps the ghost busters use
