Title: Cabin in the Woods
Post by: Johnny Unusual on December 05, 2011, 02:18:59 PM
It's finally coming out and it looks exciting.  An interesting twist on cabin in the woods horror film by Drew Goddard Joss Whedon and mixes with it another unexpected genre.  For those who don't want to be spoiled, warning: the trailer does sort of reveal the other genre it's mixed with:

Looks like it might make a good companion piece with "Behind the Mask: the Rise of Leslie Vernon"

Really, super-excited on this one, and I haven't even watched the trailer (trying to avoid any and all spoilers on this one). From what I've gathered it's a really unique twist on the horror genre. And in a depressing sort of way, movies that have been shelved for years are usually a pretty good bet (see also: Trick 'r Treat).

Also, love the poster to pieces:

It's an untapped market in today's crowded movie world. About time someone got on it.

And yet, Bavarian Throat Singing continues to go unloved.  >:(

Now THAT was a great DVD!

I admit that I am a super fan of the guys who made this one, but it was so good and fun.   I hope that the actors who were in it really enjoyed it too and try and keep doing his movies.

Oh hey, there was a thread for this movie.

My favorite of the year, easy. One of those movies that I enjoy so immensely I don't think I'll ever get tired of it, and then I start wondering "why did it take someone so long to make this?"

And then I read about the Left 4 Dead crossover game that would've happened had MGM not gone under, and I get sad.

My top 5 easily, love this so much.  Seen it 4-5 times with different groups of friends and everyone (even those who don't like horror) has loved it.

It was merely okay.  Not quite the gamechanger I was led to believe it was.

Plus I can't stand this guy.  Hated him on Dollhouse.  Hated him in this movie.

For me, he represents all the worst of Joss Whedon's bad habits.

Only seen it once so far, wish I'd seen it earlier.  Abso-friggin-lutely loved it.  I was laughing with pure joy at the last 20 minutes or so.

I know exactly what you mean, from the 'party' scene onwards the smile on my face just got wider and wider.

I actually agree on the game changer bit, since game changer implies that other films from here on out will be finding a way to emulate or make cheap rip-offs of this, a la Scream and its followers. This is just really, really good.

That said, I don't understand the Marty hate, he was the best character in the film.

I didn't laugh once at the funny guy.  Just found him to be gratingly unfunny.

Felt similar things. Not a bad movie, but I think its concept ruined half the movie for me.

I do like it.  I'd watch it again.  I just didn't think it was as good as the internet made it out to be.

Same reaction to Tucker & Dale Versus Evil.  That was a good movie but it could have been so much better.

I've watched it three times and loved it all three.   And I am a stern horror and comedy guy.
