Title: Theme Song Match Game
Post by: Johnny Unusual on November 07, 2011, 01:23:42 PM
I don't know if anyone is like me, but often when I listen to music I like, if it's not already directly connected to a narrative or if it's narrative (assuming it has one) is open to interpretation, I like to connect in my mind to a character, story or scene from a story (sort of like when there's a really good film trailer or montage in a movie).  The premise of this game is to suggest a song and have the next player describe what or who it would make the theme for.

So for example, if someone says "the Doctor (as in Doctor Who)"
someone else might say

Now it doesn't have to be fictional, but that can be a good starting point.  Now if the story, characters, person or scene has there own theme song already (like Ghostbusters, The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins or the most recent version of Candle in the Wind stupid Elton John) then you can go with that, but it is fun to connect a character to a song that you might not expect.  I hope you like this game, because while it seems fun to me, it might just confound everyone else.

And remember, you can suggest either the song to go with the person/place/thing/event or the person/place/thing/event to go with the song.  It's wide open.

I'll start:

What song do you think would represent with this person

I was tempted to use "Hungry Like the Wolf" by Duran Duran since it was used very well in an otherwise OK episode of Simpsons a few years back (the montage of Homer, a living id, eat his way through the fast food district then obliviously destroying the place in a Hellish firestorm while the song played seemed like a perfect moment to me.

And there are probably great songs that could work for the archetypical idiot id but I'm going to go a little simple on this one with Devo's "Mongoloid"

Funny thing was, I was struggling because I felt it had to be like classical music but cool and tragic, so I typed in Classic Tragic Music and... perfecto!  Big, bombastic, perfect for the nasty villain.

This is a lame one, but I think it works (I wish as was faster.  I love Grover).

Some people might have missed this but I also suggested that we can flip it, so can anyone find a character for whom this would make the perfect theme song?

Now what song is perfect for this book? (I have a feeling Sutter Cane has some ideas)

I better get this back up

From the not terribly good movie Puppet Master (but it isn't a terrible theme.)

So what person/character/event do you think can match with this tune.
