Person of Interest is an American television series starring Michael Emerson, Jim Caviezel and Taraji P. Henson. Bad Robot Productions produces the show, which is based on a screenplay by J.J. Abrams and Jonathan Nolan. Abrams, Bryan Burk, Nolan, and Greg Plageman are the executive producers for Warner Bros. Television. The series was officially picked up by CBS on May 13, 2011, and is slated to air on Thursday, 9/8 Central, in the Fall.
Mr. Finch (Michael Emerson) is a mysterious billionaire who has developed a computer program that predicts future crime victims. Finch hires Reese (Jim Caviezel), a former CIA agent presumed to be dead, to help stop those crimes, using Finch's resources and tech savvy and Reese's skills and knowledge.
According to CBS, Person of Interest received the highest test ratings of any drama pilot in 15 years, what one CBS executive called "crazy broad appeal you don’t usually see." The ratings prompted CBS to move CSI, which had occupied that slot for over 10 years, to Wednesday 10/9c to make room for Person of Interest.
Heh. I just read that CBS is considering pulling the plug on 1 (and possibly 2) of the CSI shows.
I'm really looking forward to the CSI series that opens with "Mama's Got a Squeeze Box."CSI: New Orleans?
Jason Patric has been tapped as the male lead in the FX drama pilot Powers. Based on the graphic novel by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming, the project, written by Charles H. Eglee and to be directed by Michael Dinner, is a police procedural set in a world where superpowers are relatively common. It centers on two detectives, Christian Walker (Patric) and Deena Pilgrim (Lucy Punch), in a Homicide department that deals with cases involving "powers" (people with superpowers). Eglee, Dinner, David Engel and Bendis are executive producing for Sony Pictures TV and FX Prods. Filming is slated for mid-summer in Chicago. If Powers goes to series, it will mark Patric's first regular series gig. Last year, he co-starred in the HBO comedy pilot Tilda. In features, Patric, repped by ICM and Untitled, was most recently seen in The Losers.
I wonder if it's going to have the same feel as the comic. It's a good series, but it is a bummer quite often. Not a lot of happy endings.
Ricky Gervais' latest mockumentary sitcom "Life's Too Short" is set to debut on HBO in 2012, the network announced Wednesday (June 22). The new series -- starring "The Office" co-creator Stephen Merchant and Warwick Davis of "Harry Potter" fame -- will first premiere on BBC Two in the UK later this year. Davis will play a fictionalized version of himself in the single-camera comedy, which follows a fame-hungry "showbiz dwarf" who runs a talent agency for little people, but ends up taking the best roles for himself. Davis' character is taking part in the documentary as a way to scrape his way back into the spotlight and to help pay off a looming tax bill. The 3'6" British actor is best known for his roles in "Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi," "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," "Willow" and all six "Leprechaun" movies. He also plays Filius Flitwick in the "Harry Potter" films.
Gervais describes the show as a cross between "The Office" and Hollywood comedy "Extras," which also aired on HBO. Like "Extras," each episode will feature a celebrity cameo appearance. Steve Carell, Johnny Depp, Jerry Seinfeld and Sting are set to guest star during the first season, which is comprised of seven episodes.
Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, who are also writing and executive producing "Life's Too Short," will only appear in minor roles as themselves and will not be featured in front of the camera as much as they were in "Extras.
Aaron Sorkin and John Krasinski are going into the hotel business together. In a manner of speaking. The "Office" star and the "Social Network" scribe are teaming up to develop a miniseries for HBO about famed Hollywood hotel/hot spot Chateau Marmont, the pay cable outlet confirms to TheWrap. A favorite haunt among fun-loving celebrities, the Chateau has served as the site of John Belushi's death and, more recently, Lindsay Lohan's late-night shenanigans.
Krasinski and Sorkin will co-executive produce, with Krasinski, a habitue of the Marmont, also expected to take an acting role in the project. Based on the 1987 book "Life at the Marmont" by former co-owner Raymond R. Sarlot with Fred E. Basten, the miniseries will tell interconnected stories about Marmont patrons over several generations. The miniseries, which is in early development, is currently untitled. Sorkin is also developing a pilot, tentatively titled "More as the Story Develops," starring Jeff Daniels, Olivia Munn and Sam Waterston, for HBO.
Showtime has purchased the spec script Vinyl, a potential drama series that takes place in the music industry during the A.M. golden days of the 1970s, when the record business was all grooves and easy breezy feelings, instead of ringtones and suicidal thoughts. Written by My Own Worst Enemy’s Jason Smilovic and Tod Katzberg, and with Barry Levinson potentially attached to direct, the show is loosely based on the experiences of executive producers Barry Grieff and Andy Meyer, who worked for A&M Records in the thick of the decade, churning out albums by the likes of Carole King, Supertramp, Styx, and Peter Frampton, and probably doing lots of awesome drugs in the process.
And indeed, the series would delve into some of those sleazier corners, promising to “explore every aspect of the music business through multiple vantage points—from the record executives and rock stars to the drug pushers and the prostitutes, from the stage to the boardroom to the DJ booth.” Hey, what about the bedroom? We’re guessing there’s also a bedroom, or this wouldn't be on Showtime. Anyway, if it gets picked up, Vinyl could end up being a pay-cable rival to HBO’s own in-development music industry saga, its adaptation of A Visit From The Goon Squad. But only one of these will have funny clothes.
EXCLUSIVE: Fifteen years after horror anthology Tales from the Crypt ended its seven-year-run on HBO, a new TV series based on the popular and controversial 1950s EC Comics anthology is in the works with Gil Adler, producer on the HBO Crypt series, and Andrew Cosby, co-creator of Syfy hit Eureka and co-founder of comic book publisher BOOM! Studios. The new hourlong series will neither be anthological nor related to the HBO show. "It will be an ongoing series that uses characters from the comic books in a more modern context," Cosby said. "It's all about continually elevating the genre, for both existing fans of the source material and mainstream audiences." Cosby and Adler first started discussing reviving the franchise on TV and then approached Joel Eisenberg, whose company with Timothy Owens EMO Films had partnered with William M. Gaines Agent, Inc., the rightsholder of all EC-related properties, which is run by he late Crypt creator Gaines' daughter Cathy Gaines Mifsud, to exploit those properties. After a lengthy legal process to make sure that all rights have been properly secured, the TV series project is now moving forward with William M. Gaines Agent and EMO on board. Producing are Adler, Cosby and Steven Sawalich of Articulus Entertainment. Eisenberg will executive produce, while William Gaines' grandson Corey Mifsud will be credited as associate producer.
A detailed pitch and a bible for the new Crypt series have been completed, with producers expected to take the project out shortly. It will be pitched to broadcast networks as part of the current development cycle as well as to cable outlets. (There had been some rumblings about potential interest from HBO sister channel Cinemax, which has returned to original programming.) The producers are considering both a traditional network model and non-traditional route for the project, including fully financing the series, probably as an international co-production, before taking it to U.S. nets.
FX has renewed three comedy series. Elijah Wood starrer Wilfred, which has become the highest-rated first-season comedy on the network with a cumulative 5 million viewers a week, has been picked up a second season of 13 episodes. Louie, which just landed an Emmy nomination for star Louis CK and has averaged 3 million viewers a week, has been renewed for a third season of 13 episodes. Meanwhile, veteran It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia has been renewed for two more seasons -- Seasons 8 and 9 -- to become the longest-running live-action comedy on basic cable. The network also has an option for a 10th season, FX president John Landgraf said, adding that the show seems to have gotten a second wind in Season 7. Additionally, FX Prods. has signed a three-year exclusive deal with RCG, the production company of Sunny masterminds Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day and Glenn Howerton. I hear the deal is worth $40 million-$50 million for all services. "With Sunny, FX and FX Prods. and RCG reinvented the production model for television comedies," Landgraf said. "In embracing a low‑cost production model and taking less money upfront, Rob, Glenn, and Charlie were afforded more creative freedom, a true financial partnership, and less pressure on ratings so there was time to let the show find an audience. Sunny not only became a hit, but the cornerstone of FX's successful comedy brand, establishing a production model that has become favored by many in the creative community and has led to Archer, Louie, The League and Wilfred." In addition to Sunny, RCG is involved in the new CBS comedy series How To Be a Gentleman, created by and starring Sunny player David Hornsby, and has two comedy projects in the works: Fox's Living Loaded and FX's animated Townies.

Only a week after Jerry Lewis paused briefly from his evisceration of all show business and the troubling condition of the human soul to deflect questions about his annual Labor Day telethon, the Muscular Dystrophy Association says he has been “released” from his position as national chairman, and he will not appear on this year’s broadcast.
PBS has picked up Endeavour, a prequel of the long-running series Inspector Morse, to air on Masterpiece Mystery next year, which marks the 25th anniversary of the series 1987 premiere. The prequel, titled Endeavour, a reference to Morse’s first name, stars British actor Shaun Evans (Ashes to Ashes) who will step into John Thaw’s shoes to play the younger version of Colin Dexter’s iconic character. Set in 1965, the story follows the hunt for a missing schoolgirl, which draws Endeavour Morse back to the place that will ultimately shape and define his destiny: Oxford. “Inspector Morse was one of my favorite detectives,” Masterpiece executive producer Rebecca Eaton said. “Shaun Evans has a similar depth and quiet charm. I can’t wait to see his Endeavour.” Another Inspector Morse offshoot, series Inspector Lewis starring Kevin Whately in the role he originated in Inspector Morse, also airs on Mastepiece, with four new episodes slated to begin Sept. 4. Written by Russell Lewis, Endeavour is a co-production of ITV Studios Prods. and Masterpiece.
Heh. I just read that CBS is considering pulling the plug on 1 (and possibly 2) of the CSI shows.
I would stand and cheer if they did that(really the first CSI used to be good but they have just been so lazy since the spin offs and shows like Numbers and Five-0 can along and just rehashed what you see on CSI every week),but i don't think they will ever do it. CSI is CBS's Law and order, they would not have a network with out that show and it's spin offs to film time five nights a week.
EXCLUSIVE: After successfully adapting British workplace comedy The Office for NBC, Greg Daniels is taking on another half-hour British format for the network, this time a family comedy. I hear that NBC has put in development a U.S. version of the UK series Friday Night Dinner with Daniels at the helm. It is unclear whether Daniels will write, co-write or supervise the writing of the adaptation for UMS. Created by Robert Popper, Friday Night Dinner, which debuted on Channel 4 in February, centers on the Goodmans, a traditional but not strictly observant Jewish family, and chronicles their Shabbat dinners. Every Friday night, brothers Adam and Jonny reluctantly visit their parents — mom Jackie, who is obsessed with Masterchef, and dad Martin, who loves to walk around shirtless — for a home-cooked meal. Adding to the gallery of oddball characters is a grandmother who struts her stuff in a bikini and eccentric neighbor Jim who constantly interrupts dinner. Friday Night Dinner, which has been renewed by Channel 4 for a second season, airs in the U.S. on BBC America. The show hails from Big Talk Prods, the UK production company also behind another Channel 4 comedy series that is being remade by NBC, Free Agents. NBC’s version, starring Hank Azaria and Kathryn Hahn, was picked up to series and launches this fall. Daniels is expected to executive produce Friday Night Dinner with his producing partner Howard Klein, Popper and Big Talk. The project falls under the new two-year overall deal Daniels recently signed with UMS. In addition to developing and executive producing the Emmy-winning The Office, WME-repped Daniels also co-created and executive produces another NBC Thursday comedy series, Parks and Recreation. Both shows are nominated for best comedy series Emmys, making Daniels the first comedy writer-producer to have two shows competing against each other in that category since 1975, when James L. Brooks and Allan Burns were nominated for Mary Tyler Moore and Rhoda. Additionally, Daniels is nominated in the comedy writing category for penning Steve Carell’s farewell episode on The Office. Here is a trailer for the British Friday Night Dinner:

EXCLUSIVE: The long-awaited return to TV of The X-Files creator Chris Carter is close to reality. I’ve learned that Carter is set to write, direct and executive produce a mystery drama with a female lead for MRC. The company, which hopes to go straight to series on the project, is expected to start pitching the show to networks in the next few weeks. Carter had had the idea for the action series for a while and earlier this year pitched it to MRC, which has been teaming with A-list film and TV auspices. The company most recently sold the David Fincher/Kevin Spacey drama House Of Cards to Netflix with a two-season order. Since The X-Files ended its run on Fox in 2002, ICM-repped Carter has stayed largely out of the spotlight, only resurfacing to do the 2008 X-Files movie sequel and the upcoming thriller Fencewalker. There is now talk about a potential third X-Files movie.

EXCLUSIVE: NBC continues its aggressive push this development season with early pilot orders. The latest project to get the green light is the comedy starring Sarah Silverman, which the network landed in August with a hefty put pilot commitment after a bidding war. The half-hour, from 20th Century Fox TV and Imagine TV, is a pet project of Imagine principal Ron Howard. Loosely based on Silverman’s life, the untitled single-camera comedy stars the comedian as a woman readjusting to the single life after a decade-long live-in relationship. Silverman wrote with Dan Sterling and Jon Schroeder, who were writer-producers on her self-titled Comedy Central series. Silverman, Sterling and Imagine’s Howard, Brian Grazer and Francie Calfo are executive producing. The order for the Sarah Silverman project follows recent pilot pickups for Beautiful People, a character-driven futuristic drama spec by Michael McDonald and comedies Isabel and Save Me, which are now casting. Additionally, the J.J. Abrams/Eric Kripke adventure thriller Revolution and crime drama Blue Tilt have pilot production commitments at the network.
The network will kick off the 90-minute line-up on Saturdays, starting Jan. 2013.
The network announced Sunday morning at the Television Critics Association winter press tour that it will launch a late-night 90-minute animation block on Saturdays, starting in Jan. 2013.
"It's something that we've been working on for a while," Fox president of entertainment Kevin Reilly said at the start of his executive session. "We have real estate on our schedule in Saturday night late night that we've not been programming in quite a few seasons."
Reilly pointed to the high bar set by The Simpsons and Family Guy and the quality of projects they've been forced to turn down as prime motivation in launching the new block.
The new unit overseeing the development and production of the alternative animated series will be run by former Adult Swim head Nick Weidenfeld, who serves as EP of Children's Hospital and The Boondocks. Hend Baghdady will also serve as executive in charge of production.
The slate of animated shorts and series will run online and on-air, with four new animated series planned per season with the 2013 launch. The line-up will go head-to-head against NBC's Saturday Night Live, running from 11:00 p.m. to 12:30 am ET/PT.
But Reilly seemed to place just as much focus on the online tie-in.
"This may be the first time a network is building a clear bridge for talent to develop and grow ideas in the digital/alternative arena and organically move them into the mainstream," he said in a press release. These new late-night series will be assets in their own right - but the clear possibility exists for a breakout digital success to graduate to primetime."

I welcome any alternative to SNL.
He'll write, direct and exec produce the period project "L.A. Noir," based on the true story of former LAPD chief William Parker's decades-long pursuit of mobster Mickey Cohen.
Based on John Buntin's book L.A. Noir: The Struggle for the Soul of America's Most Seductive City, which chronicles the battle between former Los Angeles police chief William Parker and mobster/former boxer Mickey Cohen, Darabont will write and direct the pilot as well as executive produce alongside The Social Network producer Michael De Luca and Elliot Webb (Tall Time Tales). Alissa Phillips (Moneyball) will serve as co-executive producer.
"The story of L.A. Noir is inspired by an incredibly dramatic period in the history of Los Angeles," said Michael Wright, executive vp and head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies."This project is a sweeping tale of the battle for the soul of the city that was waged between the forces of the LAPD and the West Coast mob."
The period project is based on the true story of Parker's decades-long pursuit of Cohen and described as a fast-paced crime drama set in Los Angeles during the 1940s and '50s amid a world of movie stars, powerful studio heads, war heroes and a powerful and corrupt police force and criminal network determined to make L.A. its West Coast base.
"Noir is a passion of mine, so I feel blessed to delve into a project that speaks in the hard-boiled vernacular,” Darabont added. "John Buntin’s superb book, though nonfiction, is our touchstone and inspiration for the stories we’ll be telling, weaving fiction throughout the facts, and facts throughout the fiction."
After initial reports that Darabont had stepped down from The Walking Dead, THR revealed that the showrunner -- who shepherded the adaptation of the series based on the comics by Robert Kirkman -- was pushed out over after clashing with the cable network over the show's budget.
Darabont departed the series in July, days after appearing at a San Diego Comic-Con panel to support the show's second season -- which was in mid-production at the time. He was replaced by Glen Mazzara. Walking Dead -- which the cabler owns outright -- has been a breakout hit for the network, shattering basic cable ratings records with its Season 2 premiere in October en route to a third-season pickup.
‘The Office’ Spinoff Starring Rainn Wilson In The Works For Midseason 2013 Launch
While attending the SAG Awards today, The Office co-star Rainn Wilson confirmed my story that he is to star and produce in a spinoff series, which in the works for midseason 2013. After quipping that spinoffs never work and that a series “with a character a annoying as Dwight” is “the worst idea I have ever heard in my life,” Wilson told E!’s Giuliana Rancic during the network’s live red carpet coverage that, “We’re talking about a Dwight Schrute spinoff that could be really cool.” He didn’t go into details but said that the new show “would have a crazy menagerie of characters… It would be even more far out and weird than The Office.” According to my sources, the spinoff, which will be tested as an episode of The Office this season, will have Dwight (Wilson) living at the Schrute family beet farm and bed & breakfast, which have been featured on the show several times and will include multiple generations of the family, many cousins and neighbors. The project hails from Wilson and The Office showrunner Paul Lieberstein, with original Office executive producers Ben Silverman and Howard Klein also attached.

I'd give it a watch as long as Dwight stays basically the same as he is on The Office.
What appears the be the final piece in NBC’s drama puzzle this pilot season has fallen in — NBC has given the green light to Eric Kripke/JJ Abrams’ drama Revolution. The project, from Warner Bros. TV, had a massive production commitment with a $2 million penalty attached to it. The pilot order comes after a recent rewrite. Revolution, written by Supernatural creator Eric Kripke, is being described as a high-octane action drama following a group of characters struggling to survive and reunite with loved ones in a world where all forms of energy have mysteriously ceased to exist. Abrams, Kripke and Bryan Burk are executive producing. This marks the second pilot order this season for Abrams’ Bad Robot, which is also behind the Mark Schwahn-penned Shelter at the CW.
The Bryan Fuller drama featuring the characters from Thomas Harris' "Red Dragon" gets a 13-episode pickup
NBC will make room on its schedule for Dr. Hannibal Lecter.
The network has given series orders to Hannibal, a 13-episode drama from Pushing Daisies' Bryan Fuller featuring the classic characters from Thomas Harris' novel Red Dragon.
Hannibal, from Gaumont International Television, is described as an hourlong contemporary thriller featuring characters from Harris' best-seller and revolves around FBI agent Will Graham and his mentor, Dr. Hannibal Lecter, who are reintroduced as the beginning of their budding relationship.
The order for 13 episdoes comes as NBC Entertainment president Robert Greenblatt -- a former Showtime topper -- the brings his cable sensibilities to the struggling network as he employs the abbreviated season model typically found on non-broadcast networks. The series order comes as NBC is two weeks into its 15-episode order for Broadway drama Smash.
Fuller will write and executive produce the series, with Martha DeLaurentiis also on board as an EP. The series order comes a week after NBC opted to delay its planned Munsters reboot to the summer, allowing the high-concept proejct more time to find the right fit during the casting process.
With an ex-Ewok and brilliant stunt casting, Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant mine the depths of humiliation on HBO's new comedy about an egomaniac dwarf.
Sometimes Ricky Gervais is so busy being controversial as an awards host or comedian or social commentator that the public forgets how great his television series can be.
Obviously, The Office goes into the Hall of Fame on the first ballot. And not enough people seem to know how much genius went into Extras, his follow-up collaboration with Stephen Merchant that was co-produced by the BBC and HBO.
Now comes HBO's Life's Too Short and what looks, after three episodes, to be another vein of gold for Gervais and Merchant. The faux documentary series centers on Britain's "go-to dwarf," Warwick Davis (the Harry Potter and Star Wars movies), who's out of work, getting a divorce and owes back taxes.
It doesn't take much of a stretch to see the Gervais/Merchant DNA in Too Short, which borrows from the formula they mastered with Office. The duo excels at wince-inducing comedy, and central to their conceit is someone (think the David Brent character from Office) whose self-importance is wonderfully blind to reality. The more their shortcomings are exposed to the camera, the more resistant they are to believing their lot in life -- and pomposity, lies and misfortune generally follow. As does embarrassment.
Too Short is packed with such moments thanks to spot-on writing and Davis' superb star turn. He willingly puts himself up for abuse (he was an Ewok in the Star Wars films) and, as head of a fictitious "Dwarves for Hire" acting business, is constantly undercutting clients with his own desperation for work.
The show's running gag is that Warwick Davis -- he constantly refers to himself in the third person -- thinks everyone knows who he is, but they never do. In one scene, he takes a camera crew to meet Gervais and Merchant but can't reach the keypad to be buzzed in. He asks someone on the street to do it, and the exchange is priceless: When Davis asserts that he was in Star Wars, he is met with skepticism. "I was an Ewok," he explains. "Those little bears?" says the person. "They're not little bears!" replies Davis.
Too Short already has been renewed in Britain, even though the series didn't reach the ratings numbers of Office (how could it?) or Extras. Gervais might be an even more polarizing figure there for critics than in the States, and some U.K. reviews of Too Short seemed more intent to rip on him than to critique the show. Not unexpectedly, the series became controversial because of its frequent use of "dwarf" instead of "little people" -- though the show makes clear that the real offense is "midget" -- and the ridiculous suggestion that Too Short exploits Davis. As for the claim that he is merely a shorter David Brent, and thus Gervais and Merchant are mining familiar ground, the argument is just lazy. Hypocrisy, self-grandiosity and meanness to others in an attempt to elevate oneself are the stock-in-trade of Gervais and Merchant.
In any case, Too Short has a few other tricks up its sleeve, particularly in the area of stunt casting (which Extras did so brilliantly). Liam Neeson, Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Steve Carell and Sting all appear.
Neeson is hilarious as himself, coming to Gervais and Merchant for help because he wants to do comedy (both of the latter men have perfected the sideways glance at the camera to indicate something is a very bad idea or about to go wrong).
Davis is doing great work here -- his timing is impeccable, and his spirit can't be defeated in the face of embarrassment, a key component of the Gervais/Merchant recipe.
Gervais hasn't let the public's divided opinion of him stop him from being funny (though it appeared to tame him during the Golden Globes in January). With Life's Too Short, he again delivers.
EXCLUSIVE: One of Lost‘s most popular stars, Terry O’Quinn, is back on the supernatural drama beat and back at ABC with a lead role in the network’s drama pilot 666 Park Avenue. Based on the Alloy book series by Gabriella Pierce, the project centers on a young couple who accept an offer to manage one of the most historic apartment buildings in New York City. Unwittingly, they begin to experience supernatural occurrences, which complicate and endanger the lives of everyone in the building. O’Quinn will play Gavin, the building’s owner. Alex Graves is directing the Warner Bros. TV/Alloy Entertainment pilot, written by David Wilcox. O’Quinn is coming off a major arc on CBS’ Hawaii Five-O this season. This marks the second ABC drama pilot Quinn has done since the end of the network’s hit series Lost. Last year, he starred in Marc Cherry’s Hallelujah.
EXCLUSIVE: While Fox’s pilot season is about live-action comedies, the network also is keeping its animated pipeline flowing. Fox has given a presenation order to Working Class Hero, an animated comedy starring actor-comedian Patton Oswalt and co-written and executive produced by American Dad co-creator/executive producer Mike Barker. The project, from 20th Century Fox TV, is set in a world where superheroing is just another low-paid government job and centers on a dad (Oswalt) whose powers are no match for his misfit superhero co-workers and his demanding family.
WME-repped Barker co-wrote Working Class Hero with American Dad animator Brent Woods and the show’s staff writer Jordan Blum, who co-wrote an episode of the animated comedy earlier this season. Woods and Blum, who is with UTA and 3 Arts, serve as co-executive producers. Oswalt, repped by CAA and Generate, will produce. Over the past year, Fox introduced as many new animated comedy series, three, as it did live-action. Of them one, last year’s midseason entry Bob’s Burgers, was renewed for a second season; another, Allen Gregory, has been canceled; and Napoleon Dynamite is doing so-so in the ratings.
The one-time AMC villain will play a tough military man with Southern charm in the sci-fi project from "Supernatural" creator Eric Kripke.
Giancarlo Esposito is going from playing a drug lord and Magic Mirror to a military man.
The former Breaking Bad villain and Once Upon a Time recurring guest has been tapped to star in J.J. Abrams' NBC drama pilot Revolution, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Revolving around a group of characters struggling to survive and reunite with loved ones in a world where all forms of energy have mysteriously ceased to exist, Esposito will play Capt. Neville, a tough military man with a genteel Southern manner who may not always be what he seems.
Supernatural creator Eric Kripke will pen the pilot with Abrams and Fringe's Bryan Burk on board to executive produce. Jon Favreau will direct the Warner Bros. Television/Bad Robot Productions project.
Esposito joins the previously cast Tracy Spiradakos, Graham Rogers and Anna Lise Phillips.
The casting marks the latest in what's been a busy year so far for Esposito. In addition to his critically acclaimed -- and Emmy buzzworthy -- role as drug lord Gustavo Fring on Breaking Bad, the actor has been recurring on ABC's fantasy drama Once Upon a Time as the Evil Queen's Magic Mirror and recently booked a guest gig on NBC's cult comedy Community.
Well, HBO has another show we're going to have to watch. From Armando Iannucci--the only guy capable of beating Aaron Sorkin in the whip-smart political dialogue 100m--comes Veep, a U.S. off-shoot of the BBC government satire The Thick of It and its prior spin-off, the vastly-underwatched In the Loop. The series stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus as a newly-elected Vice President working alongside a cast that includes Arrested Development's Tony Hale, Upright Citizens Brigade and Dog Bites Man's Matt Walsh, and My Girl's Anna Chlumsky. To recap: that's three stars of pretty great TV comedies, plus My Girl. If you aren't at least somewhat interested in this, you are wrong, or you saw My Girl 2.
The project would revolve around a man recently released from prison and feature "Eastbound and Down's" Danny McBride among its voice cast.
FX is continuing its push into animation.
The male-skewing cable network, which recently renewed Archer for a fourth season, is developing a half-hour animated comedy project from the co-creator of Aqua Teen Hunger Force, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively.
Aqua Teen's Matt Maiellaro and newcomer Grant Dekernion are penning the untitled project, which would revolve around a man recently released from prison.
Dekernion, a friend of Danny McBride, took the idea to the Eastbound and Down star and his production company, Rough House. The shingle's Matt Reilly then connected the duo with Maiellaro to flush out the concept. McBride is attached to voice a character in the project, which is in development.
The animated prison project joins an FX development slate that recently delivered freshman animated series Unsupervised.
Should the project go to series, Maiellaro and Dekernion would be credited as co-creators, writers and exec producers, with the former serving as showrunner. The project hails from Rough House, with the company's David Gordon Green, Jody Hill, McBride and Reilly also receiving credit as exec producers.

Isn't the phrase "flesh out"?

The comedian-turned-feature actor will play a grouchy alpha male DJ in "Next Caller Please" from "Weeds" producer Stephen Falk.
Dane Cook is heading to series television.
The stand-up comic-turned-feature actor has been tapped to star in NBC's comedy pilot Next Caller Please, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. The single-camera series revolves around Cam Doherty, a brash alpha male DJ and his feminist co-host set in the office of a satellite radio station. Cook will play Cam, the disheveled, unshaven, hung-over and purposely detached magnetic grouch who doesn't like that his co-host is a woman. Weeds producer Stephen Falk will write and executive produce Next Caller Please. Like Weeds, the project hails from Universal Television and Lionsgate TV. Marc Buckland will direct the pilot
Collette Wolfe will play his co-host, Stella, in the gender comedy, while Joy Osmanski is on board to portray Winnie, Stella's producer, who recruits her to the radio show.
Cook's casting is the latest in a string of feature actors booking broadcast pilots. He joins Kevin Bacon (Kevin Williamson's serial killer drama), Cuba Gooding Jr. (Fox's Guilty), Mira Sorvino (CBS' Trooper) and Dennis Quaid (CBS' untitled Ralph Lamb Western), among others.
Cook, whose recent credits include features My Best Friend's Girl, Dan in Real Life, Mr. Brooks and Employee of the Month, is repped by UTA and Jackoway Tyerman. Cook's casting comes as part of the actor's overall deal at the network, which he inked in September.
Known for his stand-up comedy, Cook also guest starred last year on CBS' Hawaii Five-0. Should Next Caller Please be ordered to series, it would mark his first starring turn on network show.
Luck will be no more on HBO. The pay cable network, along with Luck executive producers David Milch and Michael Mann, just announced that they’re ending the series following yesterday’s horse death, the third on the set of the horse racing drama starring Dustin Hoffman. Luck had been in the middle of production on the second episode of Season 2. The recently completed first episode won’t air. Meanwhile, the remaining two episodes of Luck‘s first season will air as scheduled, with the season finale serving also as a series finale. In the immediate aftermath of yesterday’s horse death, HBO initially said that production on Luck will continue with scenes that don’t involve horses. Now the stoppage will encompass the entire production. As of the time of HBO’s announcement, filming on the series was still underway, with the cast and crew unaware of the decision, but was expected to shut down immediately.
In a statement, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals applauded HBO’s decision to end Luck. ”Knowing that old, unfit, and drugged horses were forced to race for this series, PETA is glad that HBO has finally decided to cancel the show,” PETA said. The organization noted that it had urged the show’s producers “to use stock racing footage instead of endangering horses for entertainment purposes” and said that it “has called on law enforcement to investigate the deaths of the horses used on the set and to bring charges as appropriate.”

The former stand-up comic and late-night talk show host has joined the cast of Awesometown, ABC's comedy pilot starring Ben Rappaport, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The ensemble comedy revolves around the lives of four young professionals who work and live together in New York. Rappaport (Outsourced) stars as Dusty, a twentysomething who, following a breakup, moves in with his co-worker.
Miller will play Nelson Burke, the genius boss of Burke Architecture, who is described as never having smiled and "surgical" with his cut-downs.
Miller joins a cast that includes Nick Kocher, James Earl III and Amanda Crew in the pilot, which is being penned by Due Date scribe Adam Sztykiel. Sztykiel will serve as an executive producer alongside Josh Bycel, Jon Fener, Aaron Kaplan and Sean Perrone, with Jesse Peretz on board to direct the single-camera effort from 20th Television. The project, should it be ordered to series, would mark Miller's first scripted series-regular gig. The former Saturday Night Live player most recently guest-starred on an episode of CBS' Hawaii Five-0.
Miller hosted, wrote and executive produced his self-titled HBO late-night talker from 2004-05 and served in the same capacity on the syndicated Dennis Miller Show, which ran from 1992-2004.
The casting comes a day after Miller inked a long-term contract with Dial Global to continue as host of radio’s The Dennis Miller Show.

Clerks: The Animated Series might be edging towards a return in 2013. The series was a very short network prime time show, which many agree was ahead of its time. The series did the same style totally random-funny pop culture-filled jokes that were credited for Family Guy‘s later success.
Only two episodes were aired by ABC in 2000 before the show was canceled. The six-produced episodes were released on DVD and became a cult hit. Enough so that Harvey Weinstein wanted to produce an animated direct-to-video film titled Clerks: Sell Out based on the series. The movie was to have involved Dante and Randal making a movie about their lives at the Quick Stop.
But when Weinstein left Miramax, the rights to the Clerks Animated characters was left in the hands of the Disney Corporation, which had no interest in pursuing any future projects based on the property. However, Miramax was sold in 2011, allowing for a return.
Kevin Smith announced on Twitter yesterday that “Miramax 2.0 and I are hoping to give you new eps weekly next year.” So we might see new episodes of Clerks: The Animated Series in 2013 — but in what form? On Television? On Home Video? Or more likely — distributed digitally (Netflix, web, hulu…etc).
HBO continues to be that guy with the Pynchon paperback on the train, adapting as many books into TV shows as it can so that you’re all made aware that HBO reads, has a rich intellectual life, and probably doesn’t even own a television to watch itself. Its latest literary acquisition, according to Deadline: The Madonnas Of Echo Park, the Brando Skyhorse (yes) novel about the Los Angeles neighborhood that’s home to a close-knit population of sinewy tree-people who roam the hills, filling them with the colorful sounds of their own name and the scents of desperation and eucalyptus oil. Ha ha, no, that is inaccurate. It’s actually about a less famous example of someone clinging to their cultural identity while facing the encroachment of younger usurpers—namely, the Latinos who have struggled to preserve their community’s heritage against an influx of gentrifying hipsters.
Playwright Julia Cho (who also previously worked on HBO’s Big Love) is handling the script, which will explore the way those respective groups learn to live with each other, besides the latter opening some really great taco trucks. And the development represents a much-needed win today for executive producers Aaron Kaplan and Kelly Marcel, whose previous collaboration Terra Nova finally died, despite its equally timely examination of what happens when a bunch of upper-middle-class people start moving into dinosaur neighborhoods. Anyway, consider this show HBO’s attempt to balance the scales after celebrating the lives of gentrifying hipsters in Bored To Death and How To Make It In America.
First, he showed you behind the scenes of The West Wing, then he won an Oscar for his account of the creation of Facebook. Now, Aaron Sorkin is revealing the gritty side of The Newsroom.
HBO has released the first full-length trailer for Sorkin's new Jeff Daniels starrer The Newsroom, which explores the inner-workings of a 24-hour cable news network.
The hourlong drama stars Daniels as Will, the Keith Olbermann of news anchors, and follows him as he becomes unraveled and does what ever he can to hold on to his audience.
Emily Mortimer, Alison Pill, John Gallgher Jr., Olivia Munn, Dev Patel, Thomas Sadoski and Sam Waterston star. Jane Fonda recurs as the CEO of the cable news network's parent company whose ideals often clash with the news outlet she oversees.
"Progress is slow, but I'm in it for the long haul," Will says after expressing a string of less-than-popular political views.
Sorkin, who won an Academy Award for penning the screenplay forThe Social Network, will executive produce and write after spending time with high-profile cable news personalities like Olbermann and Chris Matthews to understand the world he planned to re-create.
Scott Rudin (The Social Network) and Alan Poul (Six Feet Under, The Big C) serve as executive producers, with Greg Mottola directing the pilot.

Sorkin, Daniels, Waterson, HBO. Yeah, I'm on board.
Please note, however, that there's already a great show called the Newsroom.

I was pretty sure you were a fan, but it's been a while since I've looked at Best of the Rest. Generally, I always give one strike against a movie or TV show (deserved or not) that shares the name with a pre-existing one, particularly if the pre-existing one is good.

I take every opportunity I can to promote that show. It's fucking brilliant. If I could, I'd strap people in and force them to watch it Clockwork Orange-style.
I agree with you about the title. The first thing I thought of was "oh, don't call it The Newsroom!"
Fox has pulled sophomore comedy Breaking In.
Beginning April 24, when Breaking In was slated to return, the network will air encores of Zooey Deschanel's New Girl in its place at 9:30 p.m. The repeats will follow new episodes of New Girl until May 8, when the season finale is scheduled to air.
The remaining episodes of Breaking In, which stars Christian Slater and Megan Mullally, will air at a later date.
Created by Adam F. Goldberg and Seth Gordon, the Sony TV-produced Breaking In has struggled in the ratings since it launched its second season in March, hovering around 3 million viewers. The show had originally been canceled last May, but was brought back by Fox for a slot on the midseason schedule.
The news comes after Fox officially renewed New Girl, which saw a 22 percent jump last night with the help of a Glee lead-in, for a second season.
AMC is doubling down on Robert Kirkman.
The cable network is reteaming with The Walking Dead creator/executive producer to develop his newest comic, Thief of Thieves, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively. The Image Comics/Skybound title revolves around a master thief with a dual identity who, while struggling to quit the business, opts to steal only what has already been stolen.
Kirkman and Walking Dead producer David Alpert of Circle of Confusion will reunite with Chic Eglee -- with whom they worked on the freshman season of the hit zombie drama -- on the project. Eglee, whose credits include the Showtime double-life drama Dexter, will serve as showrunner should Thief of Thieves move to series.
"Much like The Walking Dead brought horror to television in a unique and groundbreaking way, I feel Thief of Thieves can do the same thing for heist stories, showing the humanity of all the characters, including the criminals," Kirkman says.
Released in February, the first two issues Thief of Thieves each sold out on their respective release dates; issue No. 3 is in stores Wednesday.
Kirkman, who created Image/Skybound's Walking Dead in 2003 and continues to pen each monthly issue, developed the collaborative title Thief of Thieves based on his experience in the writers' room of the zombie drama. Nick Spencer penned the first arc of Thief of Thieves, with Kirkman on board as head writer to oversee the series.
"AMC recognizes the limitless ideas generated by the comic industry," Kirkman says. "Their dedication to bringing The Walking Dead to life as a TV show has been key to its success and I'm excited about the potential of Thief of Thieves to reach similar levels of success."
Walking Dead has proven to be a valuable property for the network, with its second season finale in March shattering cable ratings marks with 9 million total viewers and records in the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49, 25-54 and 18-34 demographics. The March figures marked the third time the AMC series broke the demo records, besting its own record highs for the second time.
"Working with AMC has been a tremendously positive experience and I'm looking forward to continuing and strengthening our relationships there and I can't neglect to mention I've been dying to work with Chic again since we wrapped on The Walking Dead Season 1," Kirkman says.
In addition to Thief of Thieves, Eglee (The Shield) is also developing another comic property, Brian Michael Bendis' Image-turned-Marvel/Icon title Powers, which is in the works at FX.
"It's incredibly exciting to put the band back together with Robert, Chic and AMC; it just feels great," Alpert says.

The American Horror Story model is all over the cable drama True Detective, a prospective new anthology series that will follow a different crime drama every year from multiple perspectives, and—for the first eight episodes, at least—will star Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey, whose participation is made possible by the reduced time commitment and also their chakras, or something. Directed by Jane Eyre’s Cary Fukunaga, the show will find the two real-life pals playing Louisiana detectives as they hunt a serial killer over the span of 17 years, while also engaging in a friendly competition to see who can drawl out the most consonants and still be intelligible. As of now the show doesn’t have a network home, but with the attached star power—and both two completed episodes and a show bible from acclaimed noir writer Nic Pizzolatto—no doubt that will change soon.
I have to say, despite my dislike of McConaughey, this sounds like it could be a good show.QuoteThe American Horror Story model is all over the cable drama True Detective, a prospective new anthology series that will follow a different crime drama every year from multiple perspectives, and—for the first eight episodes, at least—will star Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey, whose participation is made possible by the reduced time commitment and also their chakras, or something. Ahead of Adult Swim’s upfront party Wednesday night, the Turner-owned network has announced a collection of pilots.
Among the younger-skewing net’s development projects: an animated Harold & Kumar project and an animated effort from Community’s Dan Harmon.
Here’s a look at Adult Swim’s pilots:
Untitled Animated Harold & Kumar Project (In Development)
A Lionsgate-produced animated version of the eponymous stoner comedy series. As The Hollywood Reporter first reported in November, film stars John Cho and Kal Penn are on board to voice Harold and Kumar, respectively, while A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas scribes Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg are attached to pen the script.
Rick & Morty
A genius inventor and his less-than-genius grandson and the life journeys they share. The 30-minute project hails from Harmon (Community, Channel 101) and Justin Roiland.
Colonel Wallace (Working Title)
The 15-minute project from Greg Cohen (Late Night With Conan O'Brien, King of the Hill, TV Funhouse) that centers on an eccentric Southern fried chicken magnate and his adventures with his family.
Coffin Dodgers
A half-hour project, from Dave Silverstein and Matt Jeser (Drawn Together), about misfit grumps who get into Animal House-style trouble at a cozy suburban retirement home.
Green Bench: The American Day Dream
A group of friends have pooled their money to buy a large office space for their business. The only problem is they haven’t quite figured out what that business is. In the meantime, it’s an awesome headquarters where their petty, self-centered and mischievous minds can wander. The half-hour project come from the Internet sketch comedy sensation Green Bench and produced by Dakota Pictures.
Freestyle Love Supreme
The half-hour live-action comedy from Ars Nova (Black Dynamite, In the Heights) revolves around IT guys who work on their freestyle rapping at the office, much to the annoyance of their co-workers.
King Star King
A 15-minute animated pilot from JJ Villard (Monsters vs. Aliens) and Eric Kaplan (The Big Bang Theory) about a modern-day He-man who’s half-warrior, half-idiot.
Rolling With Dad
The half-hour animated effort centers on a brilliant but disabled man dealing with his much less intelligent family. The project counts Seth Grahame-Smith (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter; Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows) and David Katzenberg (The Hard Times of RJ Berger) as producers.
Is it possible that this is why he's stepping down for Community?
EXCLUSIVE: The Other Guys gang is back together, this time on HBO. The pay cable network is developing a comedy project for Rob Riggle to star and produce. The single-camera comedy, based on an idea by Riggle, is being written by Adam McKay and Chris Henchy. Set in the world of bond traders in 1980s Wall Street, it revolves around a successful, hard-living boss (Riggle) who lives a dark, self-centered, unhealthy life. McKay and Henchy are executive producing with their Gary Sanchez Prods partner Will Ferrell as well as Mark Wahlberg, Stephen Levinson, Peter Principato and Paul Young. The project, which stems from Riggle’s development deal with HBO, reunites three of the stars of The Other Guys – Ferrell, Walhberg and Riggle — with the film’s writers McKay and Henchy. It was on that movie that McKay, Wahlberg, Ferrell and Riggle formed a working relationship and set out to find a project on which to collaborate.
Riggle originally developed the idea for the Wall Street comedy with Wahlberg’s Closest To The Hole Prods, Levinson’s Leverage and Principato-Young. Following Riggle and Wahlberg’s stint together on Other Guys, the Daily Show alum starred in Wahlberg and Levinson’s CBS’ comedy pilot Home Game and was attached to the producing duo’s HBO comedy project Lifestyle Lemonaid last year. Riggle, repped by CAA and Principato-Young, is currently seen in Sony’s hit 21 Jump Street and was recently named host of this year’s ESPYs.
In Fall 2013, Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane will team up with Neil deGrasse Tyson in a bid to bring back COSMOS, the iconic television series written by Carl Sagan, his wife Ann Druyan, and astrophysicist Steven Soter. Druyan and Soter will co-produce with MacFarlane, and Tyson will be filling the shoes of Sagan as host of the series, which is scheduled to air on Fox.http://io9.com/5911225/can-seth-mcfarlane-and-neil-degrasse-tyson-rekindle-our-passion-for-science <- video at link.

Frequent feature collaborators Charlie Kaufman and Catherine Keener are teaming for a TV series project. In a competitive situation, a half-hour comedy starring Oscar nominee Keener and to be written and directed by Oscar winner Kaufman has landed at HBO, which has put it on fast-track development. The untitled comedy is described as an exploration of one day in a woman’s life and how the events leading up to it can affect, or not, the reality in which she lives. Kaufman is executive producing; Keener serves as producer.
Over the last decade, Keener had been frequently pursued to do TV series, something she had declined to do until now. For her first series starring vehicle, she opted to team with a writer-director whom she has worked with before and who knows her well. Keener starred in Kaufman’s feature directorial debut Synecdoche, New York. She appeared in two movies written by him – Synecdoche and Being John Malkovich – and also did a cameo in the Kaufman-penned Adaptation. Keener also is set to co-star in Kaufman’s next movie, Frank Or Francis, opposite Steve Carell and Jack Black. Both Keener and Kaufman earned Oscar nominations for Being John Malkovich.
HBO has been building a slate of comedy series with female leads, including recent entries Enlightened starring Laura Dern and Veep starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

is this a goofy follow-up to independence day? the wacky adventures of post-war cleanup and preparing for the next invasion? ???
With ‘Prometheus‘ less than a week away from its domestic release, screenwriter Damon Lindelof has announced that he’s taking a break from movies to go back the world that birthed his career in the first place: television. Why is this such a big deal? Easy: Lindelof was one of the head writers and showrunners on a little show you might have watched called ‘Lost.’
Since the uber-controversial finale of ‘Lost’ two years ago, Lindelof has been a busy man. In addition to writing the kinda-sorta ‘Alien’ prequel ‘Prometheus’ for Ridley Scott (a dream gig for a dyed-in-the-wool geek like him), Lindelof is one of the credited writers for the currently-filming ‘Star Trek 2.’ Recently, it was announced that his mysterious science fiction screenplay ’1952′ was going before the cameras courtesy of director Brad Bird. If that sounds like a lot of sci-fi to you, well, Lindelof agrees:
“I think certainly film-wise, I’m spaced out, I think I’ve got the robot-spaceship future bug out of my system.”
Hence the new deal Lindelof just inked with Warner Bros. TV, which will allow him to create a new show of his own. This is a new step for him, since ‘Lost’ was co-created by several other people (including ‘Star Trek’ director JJ Abrams). Can we expect another show like ‘Lost’ this time around? Lindelof thinks not, saying that he’s done with shows with “wackadoo mythology.” He says that he is open to both broadcast and cable shows but if he has a solid idea, he’s not giving up any details quite yet…although he definitely hints that’s he’s not done playing in the genre world:
“What I love about television is character-based storytelling, and I want to continue to explore the fantastical way of doing it where characters live in a world that is a little skewed.”
Since the deal is brand new and there aren’t any concrete show details to actually report yet, it’s time to break out those ‘Lost’ DVDs and play the waiting game.
Barbarella will be getting a sexy small screen makeover from Nicolas Winding Refn and producers Gaumont International Television and Martha De Laurentiis.
The Drive director will put his auteur mark on the iconic character made famous by Jane Fonda in the 1968 film from Roger Vadim based on Jean-Claude Forest’s French comic book character. Refn will direct and executive produce the series alongside De Laurentiis and co-executive producers Julien Forest and Jean-Marc Lofficier.
Refn called Barbarella “one of the ultimate counter-cultural characters” and said “I look forward to bringing this unique character to life for a new generation of fans.”
De Laurentiis said Refn has “the perfect vision to elevate such an iconic character like Barbarella and bring her to new audiences worldwide.”
Gaumont’s Vice CEO Christophe Riandee added: “Nicolas is one of today’s hottest directors and it was an obvious choice that we get him on board with this project.”

Damon Lindelof has found his first TV series project since ABC's Lost. The former co-creator of the island-set drama is developing a small-screen adaptation of author Tom Perrotta's novel The Leftovers at HBO, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Lindelof will co-write the project with Perrotta under his rich three-year deal with Warner Bros. Television. HBO will produce the effort alongside WBTV. Perrotta will also executive produce with Ron Yerxa and Albert Berger. Should the project move forward from its development status, Lindelof would serve as showrunner.
Leftovers, which was published in May, revolves around the Rapture and follows a group of people who are left behind in the suburban community of Mapleton after the sudden departure of more than 100 people as they begin to rebuild their lives after their mysterious disappearance.
The Lost co-showrunner inked a three-year deal with WBTV earlier this month, marking his return to TV after Lost's six-season run. More recently, he helped develop former Lost scribes Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz's ABC drama Once Upon a Time, which was renewed for a second season in May.
In addition to the co-writing Prometheus, Lindelof has the upcoming Star Trek sequel as well as Disney's 1952 set up on the big screen.
You know, it’s been a good long while sinec we’ve seen Jerry Seinfeld on TV in anything worthwhile (yes, we absolutely refuse to count ‘The Marriage Ref’). We know he’ll be appearing later this season in an intriguing extended arc on FX’s comedy gem ‘Louie?’ but what’s the ‘Seinfeld’ comedian’s new web series all about? The first teaser may or may not provide the answer…
Crackle has revved up the first teaser for legendary comedian and classic car collector Jerry Seinfeld’s all-new web series ‘Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.’ The series, which will debut on Crackle.com July 19, follows Seinfeld and his network of famous friends as they, you guessed it, cruise around town together and eventually get coffee.
The first run will contain appearances from such famous faces as ‘Seinfeld’ co-creator Larry David, ‘Seinfeld’ co-star Michael Richards, Ricky Gervais, ‘30 Rock‘s Alec Baldwin and former ‘Saturday Night Live‘ star Colin Quinn. The first teaser is below, but we warned, there isn’t much to go on, or even much of any dialogue at all.

Fox is going for a ride with Ichabod Crane.
The network has given a put-pilot commitment to an adaptation of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow from Fringe creators Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
The duo's dramatic take on Sleepy Hollow is described as a modern-day supernatural thriller based on the 1820 short story in which Ichabod Crane partners with the town's local female sheriff to bring peace to a beleaguered community.
Kurtzman and Orci are attached to write the script alongside Phillip Iscove, who created the concept. The duo -- whose credits also include Alias, Hawaii Five-0 and features including Cowboys & Aliens -- will executive produce alongside Len Wiseman (Underworld, Total Recall), who will also direct. (Wiseman previously helmed the pilot for Hawaii Five-0.)
Was that Joel at 25 seconds in? Also I saw Brian Regan!
For a dude without a job former Community boss Dan Harmon is one very busy Human Being.
The scribe, who as previously reported is nearing a deal to develop a comedy project for Fox, has just inked a blind script pact with CBS for a new half-hour series, TVLine has learned.
The twist? Harmon is venturing outside his wheelhouse and trying his hand at a traditional multi-cam comedy. (His potential Fox show may or may not be multi-cam too.)
Harmon, who was ousted as Community showrunner earlier this summer, also has an animated pilot called Rick & Morty in the hopper for Adult Swim.
Syfy is getting into business with feature filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan.
The cable network has given a put-pilot commitment to a project from Shyamalan and Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Marti Noxon titled Proof, marking his first foray into scripted television, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively.
Shyamalan, who made his mark with The Sixth Sense, would direct the Universal Cable Productions project. Proof centers on the son of a billionaire tech genius who, following an accident that claims his parents' lives, offers a large reward for anyone who can find proof of life after death.
Shyamalan and Noxon will co-write the project and serve as EPs. Ashwin Rajan, of Shyamalan's Blinding Edge, also will serve as an exec producer.
Shyamalan's jump to the small screen comes after Syfy renewed Total Blackout and Lost Girl, opted not to move forward with Sanctuary and bid farewell to veteran series Eureka. He also has some history at the network. In 2004, the then-Sci Fi Channel was involved in a controversial "special," The Buried Secret of M. Night Shyamalan, that ended up being a marketing ploy for his film The Village.
Michael J. Fox is ready to go back to … television full time.
The Family Ties and Back to the Future star is shopping a single-camera comedy project inspired by his life, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. As first reported by Vulture, Fox is teaming with Arrested Development and Cougar Town scribe Sam Laybourne and Easy A director Will Gluck for the Sony Pictures Television comedy. Fox would star.
SPT is shopping the series to broadcast networks, with all four network bosses said to have heard the pitch, which the studio is eyeing for a launch next year.
Fox, who was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1991, of late has booked gigs on CBS' The Good Wife, HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm and FX's Rescue Me. His credits also include Boston Legal, Spin City and voice work on the Stuart Little animated features.

This reminds me of back when Scooby Doo would have adventures with The Harlem Globetrotters and other celebrities on the New Scooby Doo Movies. This has the potential to be spectacular!
I know that feel...
pretty much ANY time a new show that I like is on FOX.
“This will be the last season of The Office, the series’ developer/executive producer Greg Daniels just announced. Daniels, who ran the veteran NBC comedy from season one through five and has returned for the upcoming season nine, made the announcement on a conference call this morning. “It was a hard decision but this is going to be a real gangbuster season,” added Daniels. The producer stressed that creative closure was the primary reason behind the decision to end the series. “Certainly we’re not leaving for any reason other than that one,” said Daniels. “This year feels like the last chance” for The Office to have “an artistic ending.” With The Office still ranking as NBC’s highest-rated scripted series, Daniels said he feared the network might want to “cling to it” when he approached NBC executives with the idea of ending the show. “It’s actually a big surprise to me that NBC was so supportive of this decision,” he said. “We all had a lot of passion for it and persuaded them.”
The Emmy-winning comedy struggled to recover from the exit of its leading man Steve Carell at the end of Season 7. After his anointed successor James Spader exited this May, word was that Daniels had a plan to reboot the long-running series heading into Season 9, which premieres Sept. 20. The series was able to secure its core cast, with Ed Helms, John Krasinski and Jenna Fischer all coming back, joined by Rainn Wilson, who will reprise his role with an eye toward jumping onto spinoff The Farm, which the actor created with former Office showrunner Paul Lieberstein.
Daniels said that a lot of stories would be wrapped up and the identity of the documentary camera crew that been filming the employees of Scranton, Penn. would be revealed. To bookend the series, Daniels said he wanted to get Ken Kwapis, who directed the pilot, to also direct the finale. “There is so much to pay off from nine seasons of great characters and the core cast are all going to be there,” he said. “Now that we know we have an end date, we can take some chances and blow things up.”
As for Carell and his character Michael Scott, “we certainly wish Michael Scott would return,” Daniels said. “But we’re not going to put pressure on Steve to write something only he could do.” Daniels wouldn’t be pinned down on any specifics on Carell or the end of The Office. “We’ll see, we haven’t written anything, we just have some ideas for the ending,” he said.
The Office joins NBC’s other Emmy-winning Thursday comedy series, 30 Rock, which also will end its run this coming season after the final 13 episodes. The Office has a full-season 22-episode order.
Wow, whats the point?

Puppeteer Jerry Nelson, famous for lending his voice to Muppets on “Sesame Street,” “The Muppet Show” and “Fraggle Rock,” died Thursday, according to People. He was 78.
The cast and crew of “Sesame Street,” and the staff of Sesame Workshop, released the following statement in memoriam: “A member of the ‘Sesame Street’ family for more than 40 years, [Nelson] will forever be in our hearts and remembered for the artistry in his puppetry, his music, and the laughter he brought to children worldwide…”
Nelson is, perhaps, best recognized as the voice of Count von Count, a friendly vampire with an unmistakable laugh and an affinity for numbers
And CBC cancelled CSI Miami! No more Horatio taking off his sunglasses and muttering one-liners. I sure will miss that show.
From the writers of The Shield comes this dramatic new international action-thriller about treachery, treason, and nuclear brinksmanship. "Last Resort" contemplates establishing of a new society in the modern world, and character becomes everything when unthinkable decisions must be made.
After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the Pacific. As Oliver reconnects with those closest to him, he secretly creates the persona of Arrow - a vigilante - to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory. The series stars Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen, Colin Donnell as Tommy, Katie Cassidy as Laurel Lance, David Ramsey as John Diggle, Willa Holland as Thea Queen, with Susanna Thompson as Moira Queen and Paul Blackthorne as Detective Quentin Lance.
Shakespeare: a fellow of infinite jest, of excellent fancy, yet where be his gibes now? His gambols? His flashes of merriment? His production deals? Alas, poor Shakespeare, he died centuries before getting a good agent, so it's up to modern-day TV writers to haul his skull from the ground and kiss the lips that those mining the public domain have kissed we know not how oft, the latest of these being Fox's "sophisticated, contemporary spin" on Hamlet. According to Deadline, former West Wing writer Paul Redford has just sold America's Son, a Hamlet-based "part juicy soap, part political thriller" set among the corridors of power in Washington D.C., where a "renegade JFK Jr. type" investigates the mystery of his father's death in a car accident, only to uncover a vast web of family lies that leads him to seek revenge. (Though not Revenge, as that show already exists and is based on The Count Of Monte Cristo. And not on motorcycles, as that's the contemporary spin on Hamlet offered by Sons Of Anarchy.) Once more, the play's the thing [that you can rewrite with younger sexy people and claim for yourself].
First rumored in March, then greeted with a skeptical yet charmingly Minnesotan "Oh, yah?" before being forgotten, a TV adaptation of the Coen Brothers' Fargo is now officially in the works at FX, with the Coens on board as executive producers. All well and good, but I would have preferred a Barton Fink sitcom in which Barton is still toiling away at scripts that will never be made into movies and occasionally John Goodman comes by to deliver a package. I know it seems like a long shot, but where there's a head, there's hope.
So the Coens are producing a Fargo TV series. If it doesn't have Frances McDormand, I don't see the point.

I think I covered that with "Fisherman Worf," but no one appreciated the pun.
Comedy Central has confirmed to Vulture that Wyatt Cenac—he of the deadpan demeanor and Sea World slavery exposés—will be leaving The Daily Show at the end of the year, finishing a run as correspondent and writer that began in 2008. There's no word on what Cenac has planned for his life post-Daily Show, although he has maintained his stand-up comedy career on the side, so presumably he's leaving to concentrate on that until the inevitable sitcom offer comes in. Cenac's final episode will be December 13, the show's last of 2012, and presumably will include some sort of send-off, unless they just open up a trap door and drop him down into whatever dungeon is currently holding Vance DeGeneres.
Having found each other through the echolocation of their own loud, persistent chatter, Glenn Beck and Vince Vaughn have teamed for a nine-episode reality series dubbed Pursuit Of The Truth—as when it comes to getting to the truth of things, nothing beats Glenn Beck, the fast-talking guy from Wedding Crashers, and reality television. Beck made the announcement today on his radio show, acknowledging the unlikelihood of his getting together with Vaughn: "That should make everybody’s head spin. What the hell is Vince Vaughn doing with a crazy man? I know, that’s what my friends say. 'Glenn, what are you doing with the crazy man Vince Vaughn?" Beck said of his gently chiding best pal, a drawing of Thomas Paine giving him the thumbs-up that's been stuffed inside the seat of a pair of 1791 Jeans.
Despite that ol' son of a gun Tommy Jeans' good-natured ribbings, Beck and Vaughn are already taking applications from amateur filmmakers who wish to compete for financing and distribution for their documentary, with their bid to have their life's work receive the seal of credibility from Glenn Beck and Vince Vaughn forming the basis of the series on Beck's Dish Network-based channel, TheBlazeTV. And while it still seems like a strange pairing, consider that Vince Vaughn once starred in Swingers, in which he asserted that things were "money"—an explicit endorsement of the capitalism Beck fights for every single day. Consider also that George Soros was not in Swingers. It all makes sense if you just look at the chalkboard.
Two Broke Girls has totally lost me, used to love that show. What happened? You realized that, despite being ascetically pleasing, it's just a kinda naff bog-standard sitcom?
NOOOOOO! No more Clone Wars.
http://starwars.com/news/a-new-direction-for-lucasfilm-animation.html
Or at least SOME Clone Wars, but it's "Bonus Content" that won't be delivered via Cartoon Network.
You know what would be cool? If it were like Love Boat, and different celebrity guests get killed off each week.
I like Perception too
Adult Swim had its own upfront presentation today, where it announced several new original series and pilot orders—all of which were immediately overshadowed by the reveal that one of them is a cartoon in which Mike Tyson solves mysteries with a talking pigeon. Fittingly titled Mike Tyson Mysteries, the show will find the former heavyweight champ, armed with a “magical face tattoo,” teaming with one of his beloved bird pals to solve various Mike Tyson mysteries—the kind that involve besting supercomputers at chess and helping werewolves finish their novels. Not the far weirder kind, like why a convicted rapist now has a cartoon show with a talking pigeon.
Other, equally odd things are in store from Tim & Eric’s Bedtime Stories: Zach’s Haunted House, a Halloween special in which Tim Heidecker, Eric Wareheim, and Zach Galifianakis inherit $1,000 each from their late grandfather, with the catch being that they have to live forever in his haunted mansion. (Haunted by hilarity.) Also confirmed to air soon is Dan Harmon’s previously announced Rick And Morty; the “satanic dog” cartoon Mr. Pickles; the specials Metalocalypse: The Doom Star Requiem and Robot Chicken: DC Comics II; the faux-entertainment news show Hot Package; and King Star King, about a “punk rock modern day He-Man” who’s condemned to slave away on Earth as a fry cook.
On the pilot development side, there’s the previously reported ‘80s detective show spoof Hole To Hole; the ‘80s Saturday morning cartoon spoof Team Unicorn; the Paul Scheer and Jonathan Stern co-created Gossip Girl spoof Filthy Sexy Teen$; an animated show about dead frat boys aptly titled Ghostbags; two live-action shows from The Boondocks’ Aaron McGruder; Übermansion, a show about superhero roommates from the Robot Chicken guys; and an as-yet-untitled live-action series from Space Ghost’s Matt Harrigan, about the insane captain of a cruise ship. As none of these feature Mike Tyson solving mysteries with a talking pigeon, your interest may vary.
Almost Human
The story is pretty cliched, but that's pretty easy to overlook if it's good. And I think this looks to be a lot of fun.
Jonathan Rhys Myers as Dracula?
OK, you have my attention. Go on...
So....24 gets another season after all these years but Law and Order (the original) couldn't get a proper send-off episode.

Two and a half decades of speculating about the geographic location of the Simpsons’ hometown will come to rest sometime this summer, when Universal Orlando definitively proves that Springfield can in fact be found within an amusement park in Central Florida. Or parts of Springfield, at least: New York Daily News reports that re-creations of Krusty Burger, Moe’s Tavern, Lard Lad Donuts, and other Springfield monuments will soon join the previously opened Simpsons Ride in an area of the park devoted to Fox’s long-running animated series. No word on whether or not Universal plans to one-up Walt Disney World’s Sword And The Stone attraction by giving young wannabe hellions the chance to behead the statue of Jebediah Springfield—maybe the prize for doing so could be one of those hard-to-find “BORT” license plates.
Universal Studios Orlando has finally opened the Simpsons Fast Food Boulevard, where it is absolutely possible to wash down your Heat Lamp Dog with a Duff Beer. Eateries include Cletus' Chicken Shack, whose indulgently greasy menu includes Chicken Arms, Chicken Thumbs, and a Thrilled To Be Grilled Chicken Sandwich; Krusty Burger (duh), serving up the finest Clogger Burgers and Heat Lamp Dogs; The Frying Dutchman, where you can get your Clam Chowd-arr fix; Lisa's Teahouse of Horror; and Luigi's Pizza, whose Meat-Liker's pizza promises to leave you somewhat satisfied. Patrons can enjoy these delicacies at bright red booths next to elaborate murals of Springfield.
It's now also totally possible to experience a Flaming Moe (though sans-cough syrup and fire…and alcohol) while sitting next to an eerily oversized plastic Barney Gumble, who has taken up permanent residence at the bar in Moe's Tavern. Other libations include Duff Beer, Groovy Grove Juice, Mr. Teeny, and a Mt. Swartzwelder Apple Drink.

Rainmaker Entertainment Inc. Reboots Mainframe Entertainment As Its New Television Division
SSA Public Relations News Release
Development Of An All-New ReBoot Animated Series Among The First Projects Under The Classic Corporate Banner
VANCOUVER, BC (September 30, 2013) – A renowned global animation brand is about to be re-booted. Reflecting the company’s commitment to the production of animated programming for television, Rainmaker Entertainment Inc. has named its television division Mainframe Entertainment.
In conjunction with the re-birth of Mainframe Entertainment, a name celebrated for its pioneering achievements in computer-animated television, the company has unveiled the first two series in development: an all-new version of the popular ReBoot franchise and Tiger’s Apprentice, a CGI animated series based on the trilogy of young adult novels written by award-winning author Laurence Yep.
The reimagining of the venerable ReBoot series comes just in time for its 20th anniversary. Making its debut on television screens in 1994, ReBoot was centered on the world of Mainframe, where a guardian program sprite and his friends defended the system from superviruses bent on creating havoc and destruction. Mainframe Entertainment will team with leading computer industry manufacturers to update the ReBoot universe and create a ground-breaking viewing experience for fans.
Mainframe has also partnered with Jane Startz, the multi- Emmy, Golden Globe and ACE Award-winning producer of Ella Enchanted, The Indian In The Cupboard, Tuck Everlasting and the acclaimed The Magic School Bus. Tiger’s Apprentice, a coming of age story centered around 12-year-old Tom Lee and the Guardians of the Phoenix. Set in San Francisco, this modern-day fantasy is filled with classic Chinese lore, magic, comedy and action as Tom and the Guardians fight to protect the human race from ancient evil forces intent on its destruction. Mainframe has optioned the animation rights to Tiger’s Apprentice as part of its commitment towards bringing popular book-based children’s properties to television.
“We are excited to focus our television production activities under the Mainframe brand with an all-new version of ReBoot as well as engage with celebrated children’s programming producer Jane Startz on Tiger’s Apprentice. ReBoot is certain to be embraced by a new generation of fans while Tiger’s Apprentice will provide a bold and unique television experience for kids everywhere,” said Michael Hefferon, President and Executive Producer of Mainframe parent Rainmaker Entertainment
Acquired from Starz Media in 2006 by then newly-established Rainmaker Entertainment, Mainframe Entertainment was responsible for an impressive production slate throughout the 1990’s and early 2000’s, including several seasons of ReBoot, as well as the critically-acclaimed ‘Transformers’ spin-off Beast Wars. Mainframe credits also include Weird-Oh’s, Spider-Man, Action Man, Heavy Gear, Max Steel, Scary Godmother andBarbie.

Finally started on the past couple weeks of The Blacklist. My wife & I are enjoying it. James Spader is perfect in the role. I wasn't sure how they were going to drag it on for a full season based on the premise, but I'm liking it.

Looks a little clean for my taste, but it's still early yet. David Goyer's involvement means it could go either way.

Fox has cancelled Almost Human.
:( I enjoyed it.
It was even better in order. (How I have it on my hard drive, and hopefully how the DVD release will have the episodes) There was better dynamic, character progression, and subtle mythology spattered throughout the season.
Fox really screwed the pooch on that show.
(I seem to recall a certain show by a Very Famous Writer/Director that was aired grossly out of order (with the two-part pilot aired last) which helped result in its untimely demise on that network as well).
Fox has cancelled Almost Human.

Syfy is continuing to reinvent itself, handing out another straight-to-series order for a space odyssey based on the best-selling book series The Expanse.
The NBCUniversal-owned cable network has picked up 10 episodes of The Expanse, based on James S.A. Corey's book series that includes the well-known Leviathan Wakes.
It looks like they are trying to do a Batman show without Batman. That doesnt make sense to me. If they want to tell a story about a young Gordon, they need to get rid of 95% of the Batman references and have him taking on police and government corruption or organized crime. Give him his own nemesis.
:grr: NBC is the opposite of Batman :grr:
Killing both Community AND Revolution... and Revolution was getting really good too!

So did Revolution leapfrog over the time when it was even slightly good? Cuz the show I was forced to watch for half a season was a festering pile of garbage from the word jump.

It’s been in the works for a while but the official announcement dropped overnight. Danger Mouse is being rebooted by Ireland’s Boulder Media, and Horrible Histories‘ Ben Ward is on board to write the scripts.
We don’t know – yet – who will be providing the voices, but that’s already some serious talent behind the camera… er, drawing boa… er… computer.
Some things will be updated, of course, and DM’s new eyepatch is going to be more Google Glass than Arrr! Me Hearties.
The original Cosgrove Hall series ran for about ten years and was, quite regularly, brilliant. When a nostalgia weekend on CITV led to some repeats a year or so ago, Danger Mouse gave the channel its highest ever ratings.
Fraggle Rock and Knightmare did very well too, you know. I’m just saying.
A run of 52 new Danger Mouse episodes, eleven minutes apiece, will screen on CBBC from next year.

I heard the show has been struggling with ratings for a while, it may be on its way out soon. I actually liked the show better with just Adam and Jamie, should be interesting to see how it goes. It's simpler with just the two of them. Besides, my guess is that their salaries are getting higher each year, and the budget is getting higher because the tests and explosions and stunts keep getting bigger and more elaborate.

i would like the show a whole lot better if it was only half an hour, and they didn't continually repeat explanations and footage. :\It does annoy me when they show preview footage earlier in the episode that clearly spoils what is going to happen.
That's my main complaint with just about every reality based show on TV right now. Damon Lindelof Developing Tom Perrotta's 'The Leftovers' at HBOQuoteDamon Lindelof has found his first TV series project since ABC's Lost.
I like the concept; seems to lend itself quite well to his style. The fact that it's HBO bodes extra well, too.

...yeah...why have diversity for the sake of diversity?
Love that he misses the point of having diverse characters as a positive message when he actually brings up the cult popularity of Star Trek in an earlier point. Imagine if Roddenberry had taken this guy's stance on diversity and had the bridge entirely peopled with white American characters. How big a cultural impact would that have made?
Also, this might be the first time I've read a transcribed interview that got quite that hostile and defensive toward the end without first seeing a video of the argument.
"But what was he doing? The girl back home, he had to admit, was not only skinnier, but was turning downright peaked. Her skin had changed from tortilla-chip Indian princess to that of an anemic goth girl. Then again, this he preferred. Perhaps she would, too? Maybe she wasn’t turning sickly, only more milky fresh?"

Sad but not overly surprised that ABC cancelled Forever... Although if you look at ANY (and I do mean any) article that mentions the show, even in the midst of other show's news, it very clearly had a strong and big fan base. The petition to keep it got about 22k signatures before they closed it.

That's too bad. I enjoyed it. At least the major season-length story arcs got some resolution in the final episode so there was some closure to it.

Netflix has been bombarded with calls and emails (and has requested more bombardment, oddly enough) and from what I've heard are "considering" picking Forever up. Not sure how strongly they are considering, but it doesn't seem that expensive a show to make compared to many others they have or have strongly considered in the past...

Indeed, I predict we’re just starting to see the tip of the iceberg with regards to “The Jurassic World Effect.” That fourth Jurassic Park film made history at the box office, due in large part to the fact that those who were impressionable young ‘uns when the original Jurassic Park came out were now amped to refuel that nostalgia by witnessing a new entry in the long-dormant franchise. 90s kids are now some of our country’s biggest consumers, ranging in age from 25 to 35, and if Corporate America creates a product that feeds on the nostalgia of early millennials, they’ll likely see an uptick in revenue stream.
Which brings us back to Nick reviving its 90s programming. As corporate-driven as this may be, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t interested in seeing more Doug or Hey Arnold!, or even a new iteration of Kablam!. Heck I’d probably watch an entire channel devoted to playing old episodes of 90s cartoons and kids shows, but if creating new content based on old characters is the direction Nickelodeon wants to take, I’ll be curious to see how it pans out.
And since Animation is kind of cheap these days, it's probably not too difficult to make a business case for a run of Doug or similar too.Nah, they'll make it crappy looking CGI like the new Garfield cartoon.
The CGI wouldn't bother me as much if the writing was good. And since Animation is kind of cheap these days, it's probably not too difficult to make a business case for a run of Doug or similar too.Nah, they'll make it crappy looking CGI like the new Garfield cartoon.

Fox Renews Wayward Pines
The summer series will return for Season 2.
December 9, 2015
Fox announced today that Wayward Pines has been renewed for a second season. The pickup comes after a strong showing over the summer for the limited series, where it ranked as the #1 broadcast drama among adults 18-49. 10 new episodes of the mystery drama have been ordered for a return in summer 2016.
Originally not planned for more than one season, Wayward Pines worked to fit the entire trilogy of novels from which it was based into its 10-episode run. Season 2 will be picking up after the events of the first season, with a new arrival to the town caught in the middle of a struggle over how to preserve the human race.
Chad Hodge, who originally developed Wayward Pines for television, will not be returning for Season 2. Taking over showrunning duties will be Mark Friedman.

Yes, since they're based on the EC comics where the 'twist ending' was pretty much perfected. ['Course, from what I remember, the TV series wasn't nearly as original in their twists.]
Unfortunately,And the Shyamalan fuck ups are coming already! Seriously, why would you not include THE most iconic part of the series? I am hoping that maybe this new iteration will have an overall darker tone to it, that maybe he wouldn't fit into as well. But to not include him at all seems extremely foolish.

Yeah, he basically sets the series tone. And serialized story telling doesn't really fit with those extremely short comics. It's a shame the former is due to HBO owning the character (how did that happen?!?).The article says that the version of the Crypt Keeper that was on the show was different enough, especially in personality, to the one in the comic that HBO created him for the show.

Thats a great legal option, but one most fans aren't going to get behind. Theres a reason the HBO series changed so muchm The show's Cryptkeeper was infinately more interesting and entertaining that the comic's old ugly guy with a bad white haircut.Exactly. I get that they are in a tough spot, I don't envy the creators of a reboot of such a beloved franchise. But if they are smart enough they can solve this. If they're stupid, they'll piss people off. Ok, they'll piss MORE people off than just the ones that would have been pissed off regardless.
So, dumb, irrationally angry people?Yes. I'm sure there are a few on the internet, but they are as elusive as Robert Denby.
Marvel's Most Wanted: After scrapping a Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spin-off last year, Lee announced that the network is picking up Marvel's Most Wanted to pilot. The project follows Adrianne Palicki's character Bobbi Morse, aka Mockingbird, and her ex-husband Lance Hunter (Nick Blood). "We are absolutely doing that one," Lee said. "We love the script. We think it's great. ... We feel really good about our Marvel franchise."
In other news... Heroes Reborn has been mercifully cancelled.

51 might be his idea of too old? But anyway, it might just be that he has conflicting commitments.
The part that's confusing me is describing Arthur (who now has a last name) as schizophrenic. I'm hoping this is just a really weird error because that would be a weirdly wrongheaded (call him Mr. Lucidity) and potentially insensitive portrayal. So much so, I'm just going to assuming that someone made an error. Especially with Edlund at the helm, who knows his characters. I hope Edlund is also going to be showrunner rather than just producer.
"In the new incarnation, the blue suit-wearing Tick is recovering from a memory loss. He ends up re-teaming with Arthur to fight evil. Newman’s Arthur, played in the Fox series by David Burke, had been labeled as a schizophrenic because of his statements that evil plans to rule the city, and no one believes him until he runs into Tick. Curry’s Dot Everest is a nurse who loves her brother Arthur to death and worries about him."
I can see the message boards right now.

Ben Edlund says The Tick's new series will be "Darker and more grounded" and the Internet is panicking about that. I've read Edlund's Tick and I'm not even a little bit worried. The comics were always darker and more grounded, but there was still plenty of room for humor and self-awareness. I think The Internet is thinking Superman V. Batman or Deadpool, but I'm expecting/hoping for something more like Venture Bros.

I mostly liked both seasons of Agent Carter and considering I have once again lost patience with Agents of SHIELD, I'd rather the former would be the one to stick around (yeah, I'm not coming back for the next season). Not a surprise though, since Atwell is already in another show coming in the fall.
Totally agree!
But here's something I think we can both agree on: the show really needs to bring back Patton Oswalt. For whatever reason, the quality of the show always went up when he was on. And it wasn't just because he's great: the writing for his scenes were better and the character was usually used in fun capers (and his first appearance, a good thriller).
I also thought the end of the last episode was weak, but everything else I like, and that was a very small segment of the season, which has been mostly great otherwise. I expect to really like the season finale next week.I'm sure it has more to do with scheduling than anything else. His career is doing pretty good right now so I bet he's really busy.
And I live Hive a lot.
And yeah, it is a real head-scratcher that Oswalt disappeared.

Coming soon from George R.R. Martin- Wild Cards, a gritty, somewhat realistic superhero story about a world where an alien plague was set loose and folks either gained powers and/or became mutated by the virus.
Okay, that's a bit misleading. Martin edited the series, but it was an anthology and about 20 other authors helped with the thing. Still, it's considered to be a classic of superpowered fiction, and we're at the point where we can pull some of the effects off.

MacGyver seems a bit more rebootable than most '80s nostalgia shows. It's a concept everyone loves and remembers, but I don't think anyone was particularly attached to Richard Dean Anderson. (Of course, I was only a casual viewer, so I could be totally wrong about that..)Well, maybe a few...

So People vs O.J Simpson: American Crime Story just beat Fargo Season 2 for an Emmy. The world no longer makes any sense to me.
My wife and I had just started watching American Crime Story to laugh at how awful it is. It's truly terrible. My wife and I now have a great call and response that we quote to each other, both said by David Shwimer at different times who isn't trying at all to act like anyone other than David Shwimer, the whitest man I know: "It's like he's not even The Juice any more." "Excuse me! He will always be The Juice." (Going to make a gif sometime if I get around to it)
Where Fargo season 2 is my favorite season of television ever. I like it better than Breaking Bad, better than The Wire, better than most movies even. Not to say I ever put any stock in the emmys before, but still.

Rumor: Disney Looking to Purchase Netflix to Become Leader of the Streaming World (http://collider.com/netflix-disney-deal/)
Divorcing it from Agents of SHIELD is an odd choice since it feels like SHIELD has explicitly been trying to lay the groundwork in-continuity. I know not EVERY Marvel show has to tie in to one another, and I've come to accept that the movies are going to ignore Agents of SHIELD, but when two shows in the same universe are dealing with the same subject matter that closely, there should be a tie-in.
Amazon Greenlights Neil Gaiman Limited Series Adaptation of ‘Good Omens’ (http://variety.com/2017/digital/news/neil-gaiman-good-omens-amazon-limited-series-1201963763/)
A six-part adaptation of Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s novel “Good Omens” will debut in 2018, Amazon Studios announced Thursday.
Gaiman adapted all six episodes of the series and will also serve as showrunner.
The show is set in 2018 on the brink of an apocalypse as humanity prepares for a final judgment. But follies ensue — Aziraphale, a somewhat fussy angel, and Crowley, a demon aren’t enthusiastic about the end of the world, and can’t seem to find the Antichrist.
“Almost 30 years ago, Terry Pratchett and I wrote the funniest novel we could about the end of the world, populated with angels and demons…” Gaiman said. “Three decades later, it’s going to make it to the screen. I can’t think of anyone we’d rather make it with than BBC Studios, and I just wish Sir Terry were alive to see it.”
“Good Omens” was Gaiman’s first novel, written in collaboration with Pratchett, who died in 2015. “Good Omens” has long been the subject of possible adaptations, with Terry Gilliam at one point due to direct a feature version. The show is co-produced by BBC Studios with Narrativia, the production company of Pratchett’s daughter Rhianna, and the Blank Corporation and in association with BBC Worldwide for Amazon Prime Video and the BBC.
Exec producers on the series are Gaiman, Caroline Skinner, and Chris Sussman for BBC Studios, and Rob Wilkins and Rod Brown for Narrativia. Following its exclusive launch on Amazon Prime Video, the series will also be broadcast on BBC in the U.K. First-run rights for markets where Prime Video doesn’t operate will be distributed by BBC Worldwide, which will also handle second-run rights internationally.
BBC Studios is the BBC’s main television production arm and is set to launch as a wholly owned subsidiary of the broadcaster this year, with the added ability to produce programs for commercial broadcasters.
“This is a fantastic achievement that comes as we begin to grow our global customer base, and it demonstrates there is considerable appetite for BBC Studios to make programs for other broadcasters once we launch as a commercial player,” said Mark Linsey, Director of BBC Studios. “I’m delighted that this major production is with a writer of Neil Gaiman’s stature and we look forward to developing more exciting, innovative projects like this in future.”
Fox has officially given a pilot order to the still untitled X-Men universe television project being produced by 20th TV and Marvel Television. Matt Nix will write and executive produce the pilot.
The pilot follows two human parents and their mutant child who are forced to go on the run from the government and end up joining an underground mutant network.
Lauren Shuler Donner, Bryan Singer, Simon Kinberg, Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory will executive produce the pilot.

That Jeph Loeb is involved is a good sign... it suggests Marvel and Fox are at least starting to work together to some degree.
Based on the book of the same name by Matt Ruff, the anthology horror series follows 25-year-old Atticus Black, who joins up with his friend Letitia and his Uncle George to embark on a road trip across 1950s Jim Crow America to find his missing father. They must survive and overcome both the racist terrors of white America and the malevolent spirits that could be ripped from a Lovecraft paperback.
I like Seth MacFarlane. He's a talented voice actor, has an impeccable sense of showmanship, and is a great creator of comedy, but it irks me slightly that he writes himself a big starring role in everything he creates. It just seems tacky. Like he's writing big ol' checks for himself.y

Do yourself a favour and watch both Avatar series. They are very good. Man, I still need to make a friend watch the new Voltron series from the same creators.

The Avatar shows are both fantastic, last month I re-watched a bunch of both. I think they are gone from Netflix now, but still on Amazon Prime. Well, not sure if all of Korra is on Prime, I bought season passes for the last 3 seasons when they aired so I might have those because of that.
Haven't payed attention to what the creators have been up to, might have to look into Voltron.
That's the one.
With the overwhelming positives here, I just searched and found both on Amazon and added them to my watchlist. And Korra 1-3 is still part of Prime, MartyS.

Amazon is going to do some kind of show set in Talkien's middle earth, apparently it's "some time" before Fellowship Of The Ring:*sigh* There are so many other fantasy books that could use a good adaptation. I know they don't all have the name recognition that LotR does. But how many non fantasy readers knew about A Song Of Ice And Fire series? They didn't even call the show that, and it was a huge success.

HBO took a gamble in greenlighting Game of Thrones. It paid off greatly, but it was still a gamble. Yeah, the whole Live movie reenactment on TV is a shitty gimmick. It has all the limitations of stage theater, but none of the advantages of actually being there, coupled with made for TV production values, and it's none of the actual performances of the movie people love.https://www.youtube.com/v/lfOfMFqocnEDISLIKE.
I've seen ads for this. Seems like a shitty gimmick creating a shitty knockoff of a classic movie.

When you go to the scroll of episodes are they in the correct order there? That's the order the automatic play should have used.
I only use that feature once in a while, never seen it skip episodes, on Netflix I've seen episode descriptions swapped between episodes a few times, but not the actual episodes.

The episodes were in order in the file listing. The only thing I can think of (thought of just today) that MIGHT have been a contributor, is that during the end credits I tried to use the 'fast forward' or the button that on a DVD or Blu-ray results in a chapter skip. If Amazon is set up oddly, it is possible it read that as an 'episode skip' or something. Since I was focused on getting the credits off the screen in under the 90 seconds they take, not the little box in the corner, I couldn't/wouldn't have seen if the episode number in the tiny box in the lower right increased with pressing the button. [Relatively easy to check, but brain's totally fried today, so may not get to it soon. If I remember at all.]

What are you using for a player, roku, fireTV, smart TV? I gave up on the amazon app on the Roku and use the FireTV for Amazon stuff. On the Roku the Amazon app used to fast forward with the right arrow (like ALL other Roku apps) but Amazon decided a while back to change it to that other button that is a pain to find quickly and I end up hitting the * button to bring up options. Funny that they did that to the Roku app when they started selling better FireTV boxes...
Stinks having to have 2 boxes to have frustration free access to all my streaming stuff but they do seem to last a long time, longer than phones and other similar small computer like devices.

So apparently the Tremors TV pilot was rejected by SYFY. Which is too bad, I liked the idea of Kevin Bacon headlining a TV series like this.
Also interesting about this trailer is that it seems (I had to watch it without sound at work) that this series only takes into account the events of the first movie and ignores the sequels and earlier TV series. I'm fine with that, as the first movie was the only one that was genuinely good.

I was going to ask the same thing. I used to love the Maxx, but these days I pretty much have zero interest in entertainment with rape (etc) in it, so I don't think I'll ever be going back to it.
First reaction: Oh good. That's the voice cast. For a second there I was afraid we were getting some weird CW-Style reimagining of She-Ra.

I hated Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, but this looks like it could be good.
The acting, directing, and effects were all excellent. But I couldn't get past how much I couldn't stand Clementine for being an insufferable flake. And while I had sympathy for how traumatizing the memory erasure procedure was, I was still completely in favor of it. So everything the movie tried to show me about the value of their relationship just grated on me and I wanted it over.I hated Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, but this looks like it could be good.

I watched that movie once, on youtube while bored at work. It is... not good.

I have tried three of those shows that people love and... people are wrong.
There have actually been two DC shows I enjoyed. Both were cancelled. The two were Human Target, and Constantine (though I've only seen the latter once - not yet re-watched). I am, as yet, unsure whether I will continue watching Black Lightning. It is, of the current DC shows, the one that is most interesting to me, as the characters themselves are important.
Luke Cage just got cancelled. I'll say that I'm not too disappointed as the Marvel show's quality in general have been on a downward slide (have any of them even had a completely solid second season?) but it's a shame they won't get a chance to right the ship. Plus, I think of all of the sophomore slumps, Luke Cage still handled theirs the best thanks to some great acting and fight scenes and some interesting characters.
Recently I found out that the final volume of the original Ducktales is getting a DVD release.

EXCLUSIVE: Amazon Prime’s ‘THE DARK TOWER’ Series Sets Production Schedulehttp://thathashtagshow.com/2019/02/07/exclusive-amazon-primes-the-dark-tower-series-sets-production-schedule/
Amazon Studios is set to move ahead with production on their adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower books. The series, which will be comprised of 13 one-hour episodes, will be executive produced by a team of huge names led by Glen Mazzara (The Walking Dead), Akiva Goldsman (Titans, Star Trek: Discovery) and King.
...
The series will of course focus on Roland Deschain, a young boy from a long line of “gunslingers”, and his “ka-tet” comprised of Cuthbert Allgood, Alain Johns, Ileen Ritter and Jamie De Curry in addition to his girlfriend, Susan Delgado. The studio is currently looking at actors and actresses, ages 16-18 for all the roles listed above.

https://www.youtube.com/v/VkFrNm5M_CkI'd rather they do something really different, like a DinoRiders show or something. That would keep it from rehashing the same lesson from the movies over and over again.
Speaking of Disney reboots, Chip N' Dale cartoons are coming to Disney+ and it looks awful.Yikes! That is really really bad.

So there's a petition from some religious group to have Netflix cancel Good Omens (http://"https://news.avclub.com/oh-god-this-idiotic-good-omens-petition-is-one-hell-of-1835715124"), which seems like a very difficult task.
And now for some Witcher pics...Henry Caville's upper lip looks great. ;D ;D
Also coming to Netflix: A Cuphead series inspired by '30s animation!

I watched the first episode of The Hogfather. It was enjoyable, but not as good as Good Omens. There seemed to be a lot of it where the enjoyment would come from having read the book and simply recognizing things from it one screen. So not having read the book, things just seem to come out of nowhere with no explanation. The second episode was not nearly as good. Not very funny (in fact seemingly few jokes at all), and just way too many frustrating confusing parts. I just kept wondering what was happening and why. I'm sure if I had read the books I would know that, but an adaptation should be able to stand on it's own.
But I did enjoy it enough to watch the rest of it later.
I finished The Hogfather. Overall it was just okay at best. A lot of stuff presented in a way that expects us to already know it.I watched the first episode of The Hogfather. I was set to get it but the aspect ratio of the Simpsons that cuts off some visual gags has me pretty hesitant. Simpsons was hardly the only reason to get this but if it is not fixed, I feel like its a sign that it is a service I don't want to be a part of. I'll just wait till the Internet tells me they fixed it.
Looks like practically everything is getting a series on Netflix...

Man, Big Bird and Oscar were my favorites when I was growing up. I wonder if they will/can replace him. I remember the death of Mr. Hooper, but somehow killing Big Bird seems like a little TOO much reality for a children's educational show.
Though I disagree with the article's position on the books. It would be best if they distanced themselves from the sequel novels.

I'm pretty sure that MMORPG or whatever is not a TV series. Also we have a Star Trek thread and a whole video game board.Yeah, meant to put that in the Trek thread.
Gotta love how cheesy sitcom cash-ins are still a thing...

So the teaser for the Jurassic Park cartoon finally dropped...So...did the studio just forget that this is supposed to be a horror franchise? I know they're blockbusters and action oriented. And kids love them because dinosaurs are cool. But people DIE in them! Horrifically screaming while getting eaten alive. I really don't think this kids show is going to have the balls to have child characters be killed. But without that it's so neutered the dinosaurs aren't a real threat.

This isn't even the first attempt to make a Jurassic Park cartoon. There was an attempt in the 90s, which is probably where the toyline comes from. You can still find concept art for the cancelled show if you know where to look.So the teaser for the Jurassic Park cartoon finally dropped...So...did the studio just forget that this is supposed to be a horror franchise? Saw and interview with D'Arcy Carden months ago where she said she was going to be on that series, with her on it I'll have to watch.

Yeah, if I was one of them, this: "Netflix currently wants to age up Aang, Zuko, Katara and Sokka. They also want to separate the live-action series from the animated one by creating a darker, mature tone with more romance, sex, and blood. DiMartino and Konietzko disagreed and remained adamant that the show remain aimed at kids." would be a deal-breaker for me.
I am curious why creators approaching ANY studio don't have specifics like their intents written into the contracts for the productions? That way places like Netflix couldn't fuck with the productions after they had the good PR of having "the original creators return!" publicity!
So we're getting a Resident Evil Netflix series...Wouldn't it actually be cheaper to make the show like the games? Since they're more about atmosphere than lots of action.

Jackson Publick confirms that The Venture Bros. has been canceled
Sounds like it was a victim of AT&T.
We also want more Venture Bros. and have been working with Jackson and Doc to find another way to continue the Venture Bros. story.
Uuugh. Not since the cancellation of MST3K have I felt a show's cancellation so hard.
Meanwhile, Adult Swim's Twitter says:QuoteWe also want more Venture Bros. and have been working with Jackson and Doc to find another way to continue the Venture Bros. story.
Hopefully that means a movie or two. Maybe it even means HBO Now gets it or something, since they seem intent on picking up all the non-Star Wars/Disney content that I crave, but not running on Fire Sticks.

I feel like Night Court was one of those sitcoms that thrived more because of its cast than its situation. It'd be really hard to pull it off without resurrecting Harry Anderson.
So during the football game that was simulcast on CBS and Nickelodeon today, someone dropped an F bomb... and it aired on Nickelodeon uncensored and without a tape delay.
