As am I, but a different kind of writer.  A screenwriter to be precise.  So we'll talk later after you've written something and I want to make it into a movie that isn't as good as your book, because that's all we do.

If there's a writer in this world who's NOT aspiring... :^) I'm one of those aspirers. Got a book cooking that involves a fight between ninjas with zombie pirates teamed up against zombie cowboys riding robot dinosaurs. :^) A toasted hard drive has set me back a bit, but I'll get back on it someday.

And I'm scheduled to draw all the robot dinosaurs and zombie pirates. Which isn't quite the same as writing but...meh. We need an aspiring artists thread.

Oh it's awesome. It sounds like Pak is just throwing random elements into it, but he's literally taking all the zombies and aliens and ninjas and turning it into a fluid story.

Yeah the random elements were step 1. :^)

I've written a series of erotic thrillers about a female kindergarten teacher who learns that life is more than a work-a-day job at the tire planet.

It's called "Death Baby"

I hope you're not serious, because I've been suffering random bouts of laughter after reading your post for the last hour.  :D

I am an aspiring writer. I wish to right non-convential fantasy and horror, with elements of hard scifi (as in, stuff were the scifi concepts are somewhat pheasable, instead of using science as a new magic or plot device). I favor the undead, especially of the benevolent or vengeful type. I delight in the Faerie, the old kind, that steal babies and change the fate of men and fear cold iron and running water. I am enamored of monsters, especially interesting, well thought-out ones with truly alien psyches, not just elves and dwarves as racial metaphors.

Anyway, given the current odds as I understand them, I have a better chance of getting my teen titans fanfiction published than any of my original stories. -_- Writer's market sucks.

.... about 50,000 words into book #1 and couple more in outline form.  #1 will make a GREAT movie... heh-heh... that's what we ALL say.  My first draft of #1 was accidentally deleted by a household member (never told her, either).  My advice is to save save save and make a copy periodically stored off the computer.

Love RIFFTRAX to unclog the brain when it turns to mush.  Well, RIFFTRAX and beer.

Writers don't write because we want to, but because we have to.

Wow. That makes THREE of us who lost progress to hard-drive failures/accidents. Save Save Save indeed. :^)

I write comics, does that count?  :)

For the last seven months or so, Mongoose Publishing (an RPG / wargames company with a string of high-profile licences) has been putting out my Extinction Protocol strip in their monthly magazine, Signs and Portents Wargamer. I've got several other scripts on the go, and I'm basically hoping to snag some kind of foothold in the comics industry.

Any other comics guys here?

Oh, and if anyone's interested, Extinction Protocol is a Starship Troopers story. Signs and Portents is a free download from www.mongoosepublishing.com (http://www.mongoosepublishing.com), and the strip's been running since issue #35.

Cheers,

Cy.

I've been working on a detective novel for the past several years, but it's been an uphill struggle.  I got bogged down about 150 pages in, and I haven't been able to resolve the problem.  Recently I got another idea for a paranormal romance type of story, and I've been putting all of my energy into that.  The genre switch has given me a burst of new energy, and I'm having a good time with the story.

Billy Wilder always said that if you have a problem with you story, the problem is at the beginning.

Maybe I should start at the end and work back from there.

As a guy who wrote a 300+ page sci-fi novel back in Jr High I just want to say...yikes I need to rewrite that now and see if I can even make it worth skimming through.  And when I say I wrote it, I mean I wrote it on notebook paper with a pen (sometimes black, sometimes blue) so I was probably a little more overzealous than skilled.

I've still got it, believe it or not, in the exact same 3-ring binder I wrote it in.

Or, you can just be like the Eragon kid and sell it as-is.

(Do I need to tell you how much Eragon kid pisses me off?)

Oh, blind, wicked jealousy, of course, like any writer.  I worked my ass off for years to get published, and along comes a sixteen year old and... poof!  Movie deal!  Good for him, of course, but it makes us old crotchety lifers die a little inside when that happens.  Same deal when Goldie Hawn and Suzanne Sommers hit the the top of the bestseller list.

Also: Eragon.  It sounds like a website registry service for dragons.  Branch out a little, kid.
