Title: Pride and Predator
Post by: AmandaGal on February 23, 2009, 11:14:18 PM
Hollywood has truly run out of ideas:
"Pride and Predator to give Jane Austen an extreme makeover.  The new film from Elton John's Rocket Pictures will have the seven-foot extraterrestrial give the characters from Pride and Prejudice something more immediate to worry about than making advantageous marriages."

I like this idea.  I like it a lot.

In a bit of Dante's Peak/Volcano or Deep Impact/Armageddon timing, there's also this:

Huh, I thought the two were actually connected. That's a hell of a coincidence.

Well, whatever. I'm still buying that book and seeing that movie, since those are ideas I can definitely get behind.

I do think the title of the movie is a tad more elegant though. :)

Early April Fool's Day?

Either that or Direct-to-DVD-ville. There's no way they'd try to open that in theaters. Not a wide release, anyway.

It would sadden me to no end if the Predator franchise became so stale that it was relegated to direct-to-DVD status.  Unfortunately, it's probably closer than I'd like to think.

I heard that Fox was considering a solo reboot of the franchise, and that excited me.  But this Jane Austin crap would be a step in the opposite direction.

I still don't actually believe this movie would ever see the light of day anyways, so I'm not too worried.

Well, it sounds like a UK-production, and we've got a film coming out soon titled Lesbian Vampire Killers.  So who knows what we'll make next? :)

They kill lesbian vampires or they're lesbians who kill vampires?

They kill lesbian vampires.  It's by the guys behind Gavin & Stacey, if that means anything to you.

That sounds close to Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter (http://www.amazon.com/Jesus-Christ-Vampire-Hunter-Special/dp/B00007CVRX)

They've become kind of a thing recently:

It's made by the BBC, so you could probably watch it on their iplayer.

Please tell me this is for real!?!?!

I might actually be able to sit through more than several seconds of Pride and Prejudice if there's a Predator involved!

Gah this is the problem, Austen has fallen unfairly into the great/romantic fiction trap when they're actually very witty satirical works.

I'm not saying she'd definitely approve of the details of And Zombies or And Predator, but she'd probably appreciate the intention behind them.

The Predator concept is too dull. Aside from the capacity to respect females, he'd blend into the British Aristocracy so much nobody would notice. Heck, one of the sisters will probably wind up married off to him. Then he'll settle down and stop roaming the galaxy, his eternal quest for the thrill of The Hunt relegated to whenever he can find some time away from his wife and sterile hybrid family.

Yeah, it is a fairly humorous and snarky novel. It's just hard to pick up on some of that stuff because all the names run together in your head unless you've seen a film adaptation first.

I just look forward to the possibility of seeing a Predator wearing the era clothes. My eyeballs will explode with too much awesomeness.

From awesomeness. Yes. Not from anything else, though. That would just be silly (and unpleasant).
