Title: LXG? Ever gonna happen?
Post by: Captain Mook on December 25, 2008, 06:52:20 PM

I don't mean to be, well, mean, but is it? The last update I saw was a pretty long time ago, and it's been many months since the live show. I understand that it's a long, hard process, but does it usually take this long?

    P.S Merry Christmas everyone!

Seriously though, it would be nice to hear some sort of update on the various Riff Raff projects still waiting in the wings (you know, assuming there ARE any). ;D  Must feel good to have impatient fans, huh?

It has been awhile, I've been eagerly waiting the chance to hear all the Connery jokes that this movie demands.

Guess this would be a good time to talk about how concerned I was. They originally said Die Hard would be out on X-mas Eve and that was the last we heard from them, and there official page has not been updated either, it still says they are accepting scripts for Day After tomorrow, even though the deadline has come and gone a while ago.

We've all been busy. We're talking about cancelling the last two live shows so we can get down to precisely this.

Really? No Transporters?

We're talking about it. Day After Tomorrow is of course right on schedule.

Yet, still no flag

I know, I'm a flag whore :(

I'm mostly curious if The Transporter films would still be done as MP3 riffs? I'm just wondering if I should start writing a script yet or not. (Glances at unwatched Transporter DVDs on my shelf).

My schedule screwed us. I was trying to bust out the riff before my wife and I left on a long Christmas vacation, and the final product wasn't ready for prime time. On top of that, bad weather shifted our trip earlier to get out of town beofre everything went to hell.

(If we could afford to hire a sound editor, I would right now. Are you proficient with Adobe Audition and work for free riffs? PM Me.)

I'm back now, obviously, and trying to get everything wrapped up. Meanwhile, we're talking about altering our season to lower the number of live shows so that it doesn't feel like we're shoehorning in recording sessions between live show rehearsals. The live shows require a ton more time of prep since we don't get redos at the theater.

As of right now, I'd say no Transporter or Transporter 2. Well, maybe not completely -- I'm meeting with the Englert next week to discuss the new schedule. We're probably looking at 4 live shows a year, including The Rocky Horror Picture show every Halloween.

The other secondary (yet just as crucial) reason for the change is that the collection of films available to us at the Englert has not grown as hoped, and we're going to run out of films that we really want to riff rather quickly if we don't slow down the pace. We also have a list of films that we can't show at the Englert that we realy, really want to riff.

That's all for now, I'm back to editing.

FYI, Die Hard will becoming out "very soon" (tm). I think LXG will probably be the next recorded riff (don't quote me on that!), but this is going to take a bit of time because of the Day After Tomorrow.

The team is going through detailed discussions about exactly how to move forward (not IF, that's not even up for discussion - all scripts we've got on hand so far WILL be recorded {including Armageddon}, and we WILL continue to do more). We'll announce news and details as soon as decisions are final.

Chris and I have also been talking about a few new and different things that we might try (and probably will, in at least one case). No news on any of that yet, just want to keep you all hanging. ;)

Good to hear you guys are going strong and will continue. Behind Quiptracks, you're my favorite of the fan riffers. I look forward to LXG the most of your upcoming stuff.

Die Hard is releasing this Monday, and we're recording LXG February 7th, the weekend after the DAT live show.

That is all.

We actually recorded Minority Report instead of LXG today cause the script was in much better shape. Sorry you'll have to wait a bit longer for LXG, but you will get Minority Report sooner (and it sounded great)!

Just curious - is the "live show" script usually that much different than the recorded one?  (Since you mention that it's in a different shape, despite having a live show for LXG) :)

It's pretty much identical to the live show script - the original idea was to have variations for the live show, but we've only explored that idea in Speed - pausing the DVD at a couple points to point out things or trying to get the audience to shout things with us.

LXG needs some massaging script wise - if you remember back, LXG happened during the floods, when we were literally cut off from each other and we didn't have nearly as much rehearsal and editing time. We have a lot of jokes that step on each other, or sequences that seem very disjointed, like jokes that don't flow together or are too similar too each other. During the live show we worked through them as best we can, but when we went to record today, it was definitely jarring. We recorded the first half hour, put it aside, and then flew through Minority Report. It was another reminder of how much our scriptwriting process has improved over time.

I've dumped LXG into the latest version of our software and I'm going to be going through and giving it a clean up, and we'll be getting back in the booth in the next week or two. Meanwhile, I'll be editing Minority Report this week with the hopes of getting it online before the 15th. Odds are low, but I'll do my best.

-Chris

I hate to re-jump-start this thread again, but curiosity is once again overwhelming me.  How's this (and your other future projects, if you care to comment on those too) coming along?

Chris outsourced the work to some other guy. Who's sitting on it I guess. I think Chris is currently focusing on his wife, or his career, or something ordinary people have. So... yeah.   :(

While a bit of a bummer, thanks nonetheless for the info.  I don't suppose you guys have gone ahead with (or set a date for) recording the likes of Armageddon or Day After Tomorrow, have you? :)
