What is the deal with CT and the "Blood" movies?

Years of frustration at having to edit down movies for the old MST3Ks?

According to the imdb, it's a 60s Filipino film.  It's got a 4.9 average and one reviewer calls it:

Quote
Weird without intent and without a trace of kitsch, this is, along with The Blood Drinkers, undoubtedly one of Filipino horror's finest moments.

The guy seems to know a LOT about Filipino horror movies, so I cant say he's totally unbiased.  :)

But if the movie is made with an all hispanic cast and crew, does it count as a Filipino horror movie?
Title: Re: CT005 - Blood of the Vampires
Post by: MSTJedi on October 24, 2008, 05:54:21 AM
After meeting a handful of Filipino folks, for the most part they tend to have Spanish names, but look more Asian/Polynesian. That might explain the hispanic names if you're looking at a cast list.

I haven't listened to the interview yet, so correct me if I'm wrong, but Satellite News said it was the next LIVE show, which means it's not necessarily the next DVD release, right? Like they did Wasp Woman live and everyone assumed it would be DVD 2, but it was actually 3.

My experience w/ BofV can pretty much be summed up by the following...

Robert.Downey.Jr.Sighting.

It's so blatantly awful & funny.

And that begs the question, have they even filmed the next batch yet? I don't really keep up with their personal blogs.

I have not seen anywhere where they mention if they have filmed them or not.    I imagine they are going to experiment with some of the jokes at the live shows and then film based upon the live audience feedback.

Glad to see that this is taking off...... they all seem like good folks that deserve success.

Trace's September 30th blog states: "Last week in Los Angeles (well okay, Arleta) we taped three more CT titles. One will be out in November; the other two will be ready for the early weeks of 2009."

So I guess they're all done but the editing? Can't wait for some vampire blood!

They've still not confirmed that BotV is the next DVD release, which is making me think it's not.

This is also what I was thinking, since if it's not their next release they are going to miss the holiday (unless they release two closer together than they have been so far)

True.

Probably the holiday movie next, which is okay......two 'blood' pictures in a row is a bit much.  :gouge:

Need some giant monster movies.

It's official:

Quote
“Blood of the Vampires” will be a DVD we’ll be releasing in the future, sometime early in ‘09.
...
Naturally, this means we’ll be releasing a DVD version of Cinematic Titanic’s “Santa Claus Conquers the Martians” just in time for the holidays on November 20th, as well as a series of holiday e-cards you’ll be able to send to everyone on your gift list, whether you deem them “naughty” or “nice”.

Good News, they announced a release date of 3/19 and created a Youtube trailer and sent out to their e-mail listing.

Bad News, the YouTube video is marked "private" so no one can actually see it.

King Artie said it earlier, but it bears repeating: If this turns out half as funny as it was when I saw it live, it will still be their funniest release yet.  Blood of the Vampires has Star Wars Holiday Special-levels of exuberant "what the hell were they thinking" badness, and the CT crew pummels it mercilessly.  I'm looking forward to this one.

Just received this..

Quote
Hi Everyone,

We're proud to announce our latest episode (lucky number seven!):  Cinematic Titanic presents "BLOOD OF THE VAMPIRES".  Available tonight at midnight eastern time!

Available on DVD through our store and for download-to-burn through EZTakes.

In my opinion it's our best work to date, and having just performed it live in five cities, it's road-tested funny.  Our thanks to the film-makers for providing us with this canvas on which to work - A vampire movie, set in 1800's Mexico but shot entirely in the Philippines with an all-Filipino cast.  If this movie had a chemical symbol, it would be Au.

This episode also marks our first foray into the world of "DVD extras".  In this case, it's the trailers from our six previous episodes.  It's a start.  We thought you might enjoy seeing them in something bigger than a YouTube box.

Enjoy! (please)

Other stuff:
For those of you who are PayPal averse, our store is now accepting credit cards without involving PayPal folks at all.  Don't worry PP users - you're still covered too.  We can now offer shipping notifications by email as well.  Our shipping department cares about you.

Thanks to everyone who came out to our live shows these past 5 weeks.  More dates are in the works now and we'll be announcing them soon.  Stay subscribed for more details.

Check out this report/interview from yesterday's PRI radio show "Here and Now".  Recorded during our visit to Boston.

Enjoy the new episode!

If you sat through the others... this is no worse (or better) a movie. Don't know about anyone else, but I thought this was a subpar CT. This is probably one of my least favorite riffs they've done thus far (and not because the movie was super crappy either). No big laugh out loud moments for me on this one.

Well, I've been a pretty harsh critic of CT so far, but I quite liked this one.  This and SCCTM  have been the only two that I have been pretty happy with. I laughed really hard during the first half and semi-hard during the second. I thought the movie was absolutely perfect cheese for them. The whole black face thing just blew my mind.  And there were so many of them!  It was like a Python sketch.  This was a vast improvement over the recent Frankenstein one.

Watched this one last night and I have to say that I was really entertained. The movie itself was laughable at best, but that's the point. The riffing was great and my wife really liked Mary Jo's breakdown over lotion before the movie. Every time the black face people came on, it was hard to keep a straight face. Seriously, is it that hard to find a black person in the Philippines?
