Title: The Game of Guilty Pleasures
Post by: Trumpysgirl on October 07, 2008, 11:56:40 AM
Nope, not a dirty game. If you thought so you are now a pervert ;D

A relatively simply game, I played it with a few friends the other night and it lasted for three hours. Here's how it works:

We all have our guilty pleasures, stuff we enjoy that we don't necessarily want our real-life friends to know about. In this game, the poster above you will name a medium, for which you will name one guilty pleasure of yours in connection to that medium (my group ranged it from music and movies to cartoon crushes).

I'll start.

Literally anything by Britney Spears and everything by the Backstreet Boys.  I also sometimes enjoy top 40 country, but only the lady artists, never the menfolk.

There are times (usually when I hear someone call it the worst thing ever) that I feel a bit guilty about liking the Sarah Connor Chronicles.  Then I remember how bland and unmemorable T3 was by comparison and I'm good to go.

Is it wrong to love Arnie? Sure, a lot of his films blow, but I can only recall one instance where he was probably the worst thing in it (Batman & Robin) and a few times, he's been the highlight - Terminator, for example - so yeah, the big guy.  He's awesome.

Kevin Smith.  Yeah, it's pretty sophomoric humor at first -- but once you've seen his stuff over and over, you realize there is a bit more genius in it.  Plus, I have to love it since I'm 37 now (37!!!) and his daugher Harley Quinn was born exactly 1 year after my youngest son.  I think he's hoping they'll meet some day.  ;D

Okay....call me nerdy....but I really LOVE Jason Isaacs in the Harry Potter movies!  He was the first actor to say that he'd sign-on for all of them and he just plays that swarthy/slimy character so well!  Plus, even though he was upset over how much his character (Lucious Malfoy) was not going to be in the upcoming movie, he went for a day of filming so he could be his character in one of the moving pictures and paintings they have.  :)

I'm hooked on The Sims as well (the original versions, not Sims 2).  However, for PC gamming, it runs close with Armed and Dangerous by LucasArts.  You just can't go wrong with the Shark Gun!

Platform games....that would have to be either the Lego series (Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Batman) or the Medal of Honor series.  One for fun and laughs -- the other for basically filling my reenacting needs when it's too crappy to go out in the field.

I'm 6' 1", you'll fit fine, look at getting a clubman, they have a really cool additional features.

Or wait a year or so and get the cross over(probably called the Crossman); it'll have a slightly higher roof and be able to go off road.

Guilty Pleasure: Video Game

I don't play many video games, but years ago I used to play the original Roller Coaster Tycoon a lot. I would build a park and the coasters and after a while when it was successful, I would modify the coasters so the cars crashed and the passengers died. I even built one park that was entirely over the water, so when it was filled with people I took out the connections to land so noone could escape. Then proceeded to remove the platforms one by one until they were all drowning. The funniest part was that the customer service/complaint desk was the only thing on land so noone could get to it and complain, so I got the highest rating possible.

The first couple of volumes of the Yu-Gi-Oh Manga.  It should be noted that in the first several volumes there's ony one instance of playing a card game and it was mainly about games in general.  It was still pretty silly, but the games were neat and included: stabbing as much money as you can off your own hand without stabbing yourself, a game of being as quiet as possible, a rigged game of lethal lazer tag, and a fight against a Leatherface knock of in a cramped room where the floor is covered in oil.  It was far from good, but it was fun and it wasn't just a marketing campaign at that point.

Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers - yeah, it makes less than zero sense that he's still alive and walking.  Hell, he was shot in both eyes!  And the cheap ploy of a kid in danger.  And instead of looking like William Shatner mask now it looks like Data (or Lore) from ST:TNG...

I think that truly the worst films out there are the ones that actually had the potential to be good movies, and then the director screws them up. That's what always kills me.

Jeeze you guys are dorks. Can't even admit to liking a movie in a GUILTY PLEASURES thread.

My favorite JCVD is Bloodsport. This movie use to come on a lot late at night on Fox back when I was a young teen. I loved it. I laughed at it even then. I love the whole "fighters from around the world from different martial arts get together for a tournament". Esepcially back before MMA made fighting seem so boring and homogenized. Bolo Yeung as the villain, Ogre from Revenge of the Nerds playing Jackson "Jackson! Jackson! Yeah, I got him! Jackson!"  and JCVD's Bruce Lee impersonations. Johnny Cage's look from Mortal Kombat was completely ripped off from Van Damme in Bloodsport Plus it was loosely based on the true story of Frank Dux.  What's not to like?

Most anything Will Smith does in relation to his movies (Men in Black, Wild Wild West, etc.) is good!  I mean, yeah, they technically suck....but they're great to listen to every now and then....  And if I really had to choose rap songs other people may have heard, I'd first go with White and Nerdy by "Weird Al" Yankovic followed by his Amish Paradise.  So there -- I can be more pathetic than you!  ;D
