Title: The Big Bang Theory
Post by: Chaos on October 02, 2008, 11:14:11 AM
APPARENTLY there isn't even a thread for this little gem of a show, so I'll go ahead and start one.

I'm very glad that the show is back for season 2. When the strike happened, I was afraid that it would be one of the new shows affected, and not get renewed.

What are your thoughts on how things went between the end of season 1 and the start of season 2? I was a little disappointed that things pretty much just went back to normal again with no real change. Doesn't make me love the show any less, I was just hoping they would keep taking it in that different direction.

Very good show. Great writing, excellent casting, good stories.

Hope the show keeps it up.

I love the show.  That's all I have to say.

I like the show, too, although I haven't seen any of the new season yet. I don't have access to a tv during the week so APGIL has to tivo everything for me. There was a lot to watch this past weekend so I didn't get to BBT, but I'll get to it eventually.

I really liked this show last season, in spite of the fact that APGIL doubled over in pain while I was watching it because he thought it was so god-awful. I thought it was cute and I actually laughed out loud several times. In my estimation, that's what makes a successful show. If I'm not actually laughing (and not just a "heh"), then I don't bother with it again.

i like it. I prefer that they keep Penny and...Johnny Galecki....not dating, but I would prefer that there relationship move beyond unrequited love (been there done bad (Friends) and well (Scrubs)

I saw a bit of it playing in a Suncoast store. It looks like "nerds are amusing because they are so socially inadquate and lame-silly and nerdy, and big stupid guys are big and stupid, and the smart sensitive  loser guy must get the pretty girl in the end " comedy. It has no appeal for me.

Thought I'd add my support in here.  I find BBT pretty funny, even though the stereotypes are a little obvious.  The cast are good, and despite the fact that the "hot girl" seems almost peripheral to the plot most weeks, it works well enough to be enjoyable for its 20 minutes a week.  It seems harder and harder to get a multi-camera sit-com right these days - just look at the awfulness of the recently cancelled Do Not Disturb - and so to see one that gets it right is refreshing.

I really enjoyed this week's episode. Seeing the visual impact of Penny's spiral into video game addiction was hilarious. Especially since I have known some people who made up for failures in their own life by pouring themselves into online games.

My favourite line of the episode:

"I'm not getting the research time, am I?" ;)

He's not alone.

I just don't see what the appeal of the irksome bimbo is.

Nice tits, and the enjoyment of seeing her infuriation at interacting with Sheldon, which feels SO MUCH like what it feels like to try to talk to a super nerd. It's a very well-captured dynamic. IMO. :)

No, I mean I don't see why any of the other characters would be interested in interacting with her. :)

Yeah, I don't really find her that attractive either (she does have nice breasts though), but Sarah Gilbert is now in the main cast and I do like her.   >:D

Actually that's one of the last things I look at when I'm checking someone out. I was just pointing out the obvious attraction a nerd would have for the beautiful, unattainable woman. RVR, on the other hand... ;)

It's because guys have no peripheral vision so they have to physical move their heads or eyes. In reality, boys stare at boobies as often as women stare at the groinal area, women are just not as obvious about it.

and here, steff, i must concur with PSCD when I ask; why are upset about this? Take it as a compliment and then get the boys to fix your car!  >:D

i do not stare at the groinal area!!!  lies lies, its all lies

and i'm not upset, i'm just annoyed with the fact that guys aren't as deep as we women wish they were, is all

You really oughtn't generalize like that. We're not all chest-staring, braindead mouth breathers, you know. You just haven't met the right kind of guy.

Frankly, I've found that a lot of women spend FAR more time thinking about superficial things (like make-up, clothes, fashion, etc.) than I do, or even a large majority of the guys I know. A lot of the women seem to think that those things are important because it matters to the guys, but we really don't give a shit about it most of the time.

General rule of thumb: If a man describes himself as "deep", then avoid him like the plague.  :)

I tend to avoid ANYONE who tries to pass themselves off as "deep." It usually just means they think too highly of themselves and are delusional about their overall merit in the world.

All women think they want a deep and sensitive guy.  Till they get one.

"Did I mention that I cry?"

It's a lot like that.

But yeah, not all guys are chest-staring apes, no more than they are pretentious Moz-esque tools.  Most are pretty balanced combos, as are we females.

This show is really developing nicely. I'm glad it was able to get out of the first season, where it seems like a lot of 30 minute comedies find their deaths. The episode where Howard and Raj search for the Top Model house was one of the best of the series.

And her reaction is pretty much the same for anyone who doesn't go to conventions.

Last night's episode was good. If this season has any episodes as good as "The Panty Piñata Polarization", "The Vegas Renormalization" or "The Terminator Decoupling" it will be a great season.

Penny: "Are you Star Wars?"
Sheldon: "How can one person be a whole movie?

I enjoyed it.  I don't think it takes anything away from the series to have Penny and Leonard together, and frankly, the will-they-won't-they storyline is all too played out in sitcoms.  It's still not as good as How I Met Your Mother though. :)

My brother got season 1 & 2, so i spent last week catching up.  While the four guys are your typical stock nerd-type characters, they're still funny.  Last night episode was funny, but nothing special.  Its a nice companion to mix with How I Met Your Mother.

Speaking of Katee Sackhoff (from the 24 thread):

Quote
The geek guest parade on Big Bang Theory continues: Katee “Starbuck” Sackhoff will enter the hallowed halls of geekery on the November 23 episode. Ayee!

Sackhoff isn’t the first Battlestar Galactica alum to stop by BBT: Michael “Anders” Trucco played Penny’s ex in my favorite episode of the series, “The Bath Item Gift Hypothesis.” Fellow sci-fi hottie Summer Glau guest-starred, and various nerd heroes have made appearances, like last week’s guest spot from Wil Wheaton. According to the Chicago Tribune, Sackhoff will play herself as “Wolowitz’s fantasy woman” (everyone’s… fantasy… woman?).

Leonard's mom returns!

Quote
Is Sheldon finally going to experience a big bang in more than theory? That’s at least what I’m hoping will happen when Christine Baranski reprises her Emmy-nominated role of Leonard’s smarty-pants mother in a January episode of The Big Bang Theory.

You’ll recall that when last the brainiacs crossed paths, the will-they-or-won’t-they tension between them was palpable. So it makes sense that viewers — at least this one — would wonder whether this time around Sheldon and the thinking man’s cougar would do it rather than duet.

My moles tell me that since both BBT and The Good Wife, where Baranski currently busts Julianna Margulies’ chops, are both on CBS, scheduling was no prob. But they still wouldn’t tell me what happens in the eppy.
