Title: Ronin Fox Trax: Star Trek: The Motion Picture (RELEASED!)
Post by: RoninFox on September 27, 2008, 07:02:44 AM
(http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c189/RoninFox/RFT-StarTrek1poster.jpg)

Once upon a time in the seventies a science fiction movie arrived in theaters that redefined what movies could be. Exciting, magical, overwhelming! That movie of course, was Star Wars...then Paramount said "What do we have that we can use to milk these sci-fi fans dry with?"

Thus Star Trek made its debut in film, with Star Trek: The Motion Picture, a story so big, so massive, so filled with endless repetitive and slow paced miniature effects shots, that it took the big screen to hold it all.

Now if they'd put anything else worthwhile in the movie it might be remembered more fondly, but what the heck, that's what Star Trek II is for.

Ronin Fox Trax presents this fan-riff (the first one from RFT intended for Rifftrax's iRiffs section) of the biggest false start to a major film franchise we may ever see.

Featuring Ronin Fox and DraCCu with the writing talents of Ronin Fox and Scrivener.

Coming soon...

<sigh> Ronin, I love ya, man (in a wholly detached and impersonal way), and I'm so glad my Ayn Rand riff got in, but ... that's not how you pronounce "Ayn".  It's a long I, like "Pine" without the "P".

Don't feel too bad.  My riffing partner had the same problem when we were doing Star Trek II.

Geez, and I thought people had trouble with my last name ...

I've been corrected several times into pronouncing it as if it were Ann.  Guess it's just one of those things.

Also, at least I used the retake of that line, and not the one where DraCCu somehow applied the y in Ayn to her last name.  Suddenly she became Ann Rynd.

You had a better school than me.  I would have gotten the Cliff Notes for that book.  Weird fact:  Cliff Notes were started in Nebraska.

High school?  Egad.  I hope at least it was The FountainheadAtlas Shrugged is a cinderblock.  Much as I can admire some things about her, there wasn't a point she made in that book that she didn't go on to make fifteen times.  Not to mention that the crux of the whole novel is a sixty-page monologue.  That thing is a five-hundred mile march for people who like it!

Did this teacher also assign you War and Peace to read over Christmas vacation?

RoninFox, I humbly apologize to you for giving you hassles over your pronunciation.  This was obviously your subconscious way of lashing out, and I sympathize fully.

No worries.  I actually think it was The Fountainhead but I can't be sure, a lot of that class got blocked out.  All I know is that after two chapters, it was off to the bookstore for the Cliffs Notes.

Really, the only person I can remember hearing pronounce Ayn Rand with a long i sound is Bender on an episode of Futurama.

You've got another customer here.  I look forward to buying it.

As for Ayn Rand, i always heard it pronounced "Ann."  I read Atlas Shrugged a few years ago, I thought it was very good - outside of the over-the-top ending and monologue (which I bailed on reading after about 3 pages).

Definitive proof that it's Ayn (long "i", as in "dine"):

Oh and, here's a slight update on the poster.

I'd never actually seen this movie before but knew it's reputation, my housemate going into near hysterics when I asked if he had the director's edition copy should have been a warning sign.

However this is a GREAT riff, once again Ronin's obvious love of the series he's riffing on shines though and adds to the fun.  Even though nothing seems to actually happen, there's no bad guy and the storyline is vague at best the riff actually keeps the movie progressing nicely.

Possibly the best of the 3 so far.

Yeah, I'm still waiting for the iRiff upload system to be online, and as I've found out from the aforementioned PAL test I do need to do a bit of re-recording in the instructions of the PAL version, but both versions should be ready for the main launch.

Thanks again for the input Scott, glad you enjoyed it.  Gotta throw a lot of credit to Scrivener for the points you brought up, who also obviously has a love of the series.

Well it's been announced.  We can start uploading our iRiffs on November 5th, so that's what I'ma gonna do.

It may not be the right movie for such a line, but you will remember, remember, the fifth of November.

Also I've been recording a bonus track of sorts, I've mentioned the idea of it here and there.  It's more like a standard DVD commentary as it's pretty much just my unrehearsed rambling about what I really think of the movie and what it was like to make this riff.  If I listen to it afterward and it seems like anything anyone else would want to hear, I'll slip it into the same package as the riff.

Maybe you could put that extra commentary in during the closing credits, as I cut out the opening dialog for synching purposes.. :-\

The bonus commentary is a separate track entirely that you would sync up the same way as the main track, so if you like it you could make it an alternate audio track on your reauthor.

Excellant...... waiting for the iRiff to watch this snoozefest again.

Cover 99% done, just need your movie write up.

I was planning on using the same text as on the first post of this thread as my write up.

The bonus track is being delayed as I won't have time to finish before the release.  Plus I kind of like the idea of responding to the first batch of feedback in the commentary, so tell me what you think quickly and I might talk back to you on the track.  If I understand things right, I'll be able to make the track available to everyone who's purchased the riff the same way that a .riff file or PAL version becomes available to everyone who bought the track as soon as it's finished.

Well that's probably just about everyone who's bought it so far having this same problem.  Troubling....

I asked on the release thread about this, hopefully I get an answer soon.

Yeah, there's a definite issue with no file to download after payment..

Same thing happened with the Star Trek Voyager 'Care taker'; no file to download after payment :(

So far my purchase is a $1.99 donation.  I know this'll get worked out, however.  Meanwhile I'll just enjoy the look of the new site.

We thank you for your kind donation, unfortunately we are out of totebags.

So yeah, hopefully this issue will be solved soon and without anyone at rifftrax going insane and or bald. They're obviously working their asses off with the upgrade.

Is anyone else still having trouble getting their files?  I know at least one person who bought this riff in the last hour or so who ended up with the same problem.

OMG, what a horrible movie.    I had forgotten how soul-crushingly horrid the move was.

At work, when a friend of mine are on a boring teleconference, we say VEGER to each other.

And the horrible music, BWAAAHAAAHHH

But the riff was darned funny.

Nah, the tote bags are pretty cheap actually, found a discount printer that somehow managed to misspell fox.  I'm gonna have to shop around before I order another batch of them.

Thanks for the kind words everyone, its great to know people are enjoying this.

As the president of the fan club, I feel compelled to inform everyone that there are no tote bags, just a plastic shopping back with the words "RoninFoxxx". Ronin accidentally got it from a porn store.  ;D. (I keed, i keed)
