Title: "Cool" Songs
Post by: daltysmilth on August 21, 2008, 09:12:55 PM
This is a thread dedicated to songs that are just "cool".  Cool in the sense that they make you think the artist didn't even have to try to be cool.  They just are cool.

Examples:

"When Smokey Sings" by ABC

Not only is it a cool song by itself, but it's all about giving props to someone else who's cool, which is a very cool thing to do.

"In With The 'In' Crowd" as performed by Dobie Gray

Never before or since has a song made the idea of being popular seem so cool.  It seems, to me, to really be saying, "Yeah, we're popular.  But if you mess with us, we'll f--- you up!"

"Sharp Dressed Man" by ZZ Top. Actually, anything by ZZ Top. This is a band that made a cool song about TV dinners.

Every song in The Ramones catalog.

And furthermore, The Riverdales catalog.

Coolness, personified.

Any any anything by The Replacements.
"I'm Your Man" by Leonard Cohen
"Imitosis" by Andrew Bird
"Never Tear Us Apart" by INXS

And maybe it doesn't fit, but "Trust In Me" by Etta James is just such a "cool" song to me, which is strange considering how emotional it is.

"I Need More Love" by Robert Randolph and the Family Band.  Actually, pretty much any song in their catalog qualifies.

Seriously, this song should be part of the Turing Test.  If this song doesn't make you feel good, you are not a human being.

"Radar Love" by Golden Earring

"Twilight Zone" by Golden Earring.  Possibly the greatest video as well - even though it's a shorter version of the bridge.
