Title: DVD Cover
Post by: MrTorso on December 01, 2006, 04:43:58 PM
Here is my Island of Dr. Moreau cover:

It is available at www.mst3kdvdcovers.com now!

If anyone needs a high-res scan of the original cover for their own covers, shoot me a PM!

Yeah, this was a hard one. Once again I used J-Proofs movie poster on this one. He is doing such a *fantastic* job on these, and I really like the style for the covers. Thanks J!
Full size can be downloaded from my fan page:

Everyone else's is in a snapper case too, right? Normally I just slip a new cover over the old one, but here that is sadly not an option.

No, mine was not in a snapper case; it came in a normal case.

Oh, lame. I hate snappers, even for bad movies, since all my DVDs are stacked on a bookshelf and the snappers a.) get crushed and b.) are impossible to get out. I can't even just rescue the label and stick it in a spare normal case.

Yeah J-Proof's posters are getting better and better. With my covers I try to make them look as retail as possible (for whatever reason) and seeing J-Proofs Firewall poster makes me want to use that as the main art.

Do it...do it!
I think I might too...haven't made up my mind yet.
The other factor is they have been coming out so fast that I don't have time to do them from scratch.
Oh, and I don't have a lick of creative art in my brain.

MrTorso, I love the fact that they look retail.  I vote that you keep doing them that way....

I am sure I will. I love trying to make them look like the original. I try to use the same fonts and what not. I have had some good luck with Island so far. Instead of UNRATED DIRECTOR'S CUT it says UNRATED RIFFTRAX CUT and the little banner touting Stan Winston now references Kevin and Mike. I am sure there will be some good screen caps for this one.

The safeway next to my place sells a bunch of empty dvd cases for 10 cents a piece. Great Deal. I just wished they were the thin-pak ones, but beggars can't be choosers.

Yeah I don't comment enough on the covers but I should say that they are always really really good!

You guys rock and thanks for the compliments as well!

(Can't wait to see what you guys come up with for Firewall!)

DarkFlounder doesn't update his site all that often.  It's torture when MrTorso posts his preview here, and then it takes a week to get the cover.  But who am I to complain, DarkFlounder is doing us all a big favor.

I used to hit the Blockbuster and Hollywood Video on Monday afternoon.  By then, they'd taken the covers out of the original cases and put them into the lockable cases.  They loved seeing me since it saved them the trouble of going outside to the dumpster.  I'd walk away with 30-50 brand new cases a week.

Now, the DVDs show up in the lockable case, so there's no cases to take.  I picked up a case of 100 premium single disc standard cases from SuperMediaStore.com for $20 shipped.

oh that's weird, the first time I saw the cow I only saw the middle white section of the face and had no idea what it was, thought it was some form of gremlin or something.

It's even worse when they are talking in the TV ads.

The man on my av before was Richard Basehart with a beard, the man on my av now is Richard Basehart without the beard.  It's a summer look.   ;)
