A few more questions...
Does the first los-res design need to be 300 dpi pdf? Or would a 72 dpi or so lo-res picture be ok?
Also, what is the preferred resolution that the final file should be at? Im guessing a 300 dpi .ai file?
The low-res version can be a 72-dpi file, just make sure it's clear enough to get the gist of your design. The 2nd question was answered in the rules. 300dpi photoshop file or vector art (so that it's scalable).

A few questions in regards to the contest:
1. It says the contest ends Tuesday June 5th, but I believe June 5th is a Thursday...which one is correct?
2. Can any colors be used in the design itself or are they limited to the "Available T-shirt colors" posted on the contest page? Should entries specify which color T-shirt they'd like their design to go on?
3. Can the design include one of the Rifftrax slogans, like "Some Movies Have It Coming!" ?
Thank you for the help!

1. Argh. You're right. It should read "Thursday June 5th." Will correct this momentarily. 2. Any colors can be used in your design. The "Available T-shirts" are for what color fabrics the shirt printer is able to print on. We included those to help in case designers cared about what color the shirt is. I'll make this clearer on the main page. 3. Sure

Can the logo be altered at all -- i.e., lighting effects, textured, 3D, etc.? Or must it look exactly as it does in the Illustrator file?
Thanks.

Alright, I'm all ready to submit my design and I've saved it as a PDF file...just one question...this might sound dumb, but how can you tell what resolution a PDF file is? When I was saving my design from Illustrator and chose to save it as a PDF file, I changed the settings to compress the artwork to 72 dpi...but I don't know how to make sure that this is the resolution of the resulting PDF file. It's a pretty small file (134 KB), but I just want to make sure that it meets the submission requirements...Can anyone help me with this?

That sounds like you are right on track with it. 72dpi is fine. The PDF can be whatever resolution you want it to be, really - and it sounds like you are compressing the images to be web-res. So that should work fine.

Any chance on getting a copy of the logo without the huge white background? Also, when I import the logo, the second "R" is blacked out for some reason...

Huge white background? I'm assuming you are opening it in Photoshop or something? That seems to be that it's just flattening it out for you. If you open it in Illustrator it's just a vector illustration. I can see about getting a different version, PNG perhaps, online for you and others who need it.

to help [and hopefully not overstepping any boundaries]:
resolution is only necessary for photoshop and other painting/photo-altering programs. illustrator and vector-based drawing programs are resolution independent [which is what scalable means].
any images created in a vector program [like illustrator] can just be saved as PDF and sent because there's no resolution inherent in vector-based art. that is, of course, unless you've placed a photograph [like the disembodio photoshop files] in the document. in that case, just make certain to use the SMALLEST FILE SIZE preset when you save the PDF.
low-res means screen resolution -- which is usually 72 dpi. if you're creating a photoshop document [or any other painting or photo-altering program], the final design needs to be set to 300 dpi, but the one they want to preview needs to be saved as a low-res image to make it small enough to email. i suggest saving a duplicate, going into IMAGE -> IMAGE SIZE, then [making certain that RESAMPLE IMAGE is set] change the dpi to 72. then, save it as a PDF and you'll have a low-res file by choosing the SMALLEST FILE SIZE preset. that way, you don't have to muck around in the PDF settings.
hope i'm being helpful.

The renders of Dis load on my computer as 72 dpi files, I hope that's not the largest size that would be available to a final design rework?

Kinda too late by now, I guess, but were we supposed to receive any sort of confirmation after we submit our entries?

Yeah I think we'll be able to render out higher versions... I was wondering about that myself, actually. We'll look through the entries and see what needs to be done. Kinda too late by now, I guess, but were we supposed to receive any sort of confirmation after we submit our entries?
No confirmation (although an autoresponse probably would've been a good idea). But we house our mail server, so we're able to see everything that comes in. And we did get everything.

Damnnation! how did I ever mis this?! Figures... I was spending the last couple weeks off and on trying to come up with some suitable MST3K caricature fanart (in the styles of Bill Waterson's Calvin and Hobbes, and Bill Amend's Foxtrot. ) I'd been away from here for the better part of a month or so... *sigh* Is there currently someplace to view and/or cheer on the contestants torgos? (I realize that the 'finalists aren't to be announced until the 10th, but still...)
