I was co-producer of “World Enough and Time” (or WEAT, as we call it). I was stunned to see the Rifftrax news last night, and went right to the site to download it. I don’t know if I found it hilarious despite having seen WEAT about thirty times, or BECAUSE I’ve seen it about thirty times.

Anyway, I stopped about halfway through, because I decided I should get some of the WEAT gang together to watch it, and I wanted to leave some of it fresh for me when that happens.

That's cool.  What about Paramount or whoever owns the rights to the Star Trek brand?  How do they feel about it?  That's the rub.

That's really cool.  He, at least, sounds like he has a sense of humor.  Big ups!

Why do you hate me????

Good news.

This is sort of what I figured the reaction would be.  The people that actually made the film would enjoy the Rifftrax.  Like I said in another thread, they should be honored that it was chosen to be riffed.  While the "fans" of the film that populate their forum would be up in arms about it screaming about piracy and unauthorized use.

Like I said in another thread,

Yeah, looks like a couple threads on this subject have been vaporized.

The producer has nothing to do with the forum guys. Read that mst3kinfo.com thread for more info (not much, but still more).

I really like New Voyages. Even if there are some flaws it is still far and away better than the best of Enterprise and Voyager. That's not to say I didn't love the rifftrax of course. I thought underneath the verbal punches there was a definite affection for Star Trek that we all share. I for one see no reason why any trekkie or anyone from new voyages should feel slighted, hurt or offended. I say this as a lifelong trekkie.

Well, I can see what he is talking about when he is saying it is better than Enterprise.

The fan film does have some flaws, most notably some of the actors are not up to snuff, but the amount of love of the source material DOES come through

look as a guy who forked over 100 bucks a pop on DS9 season dvds till he had the whole show i must say, every one of the star trek shows was littered with questionable actors.  so basically the fan films are on par there.

Yeah, I coughed at this as well.

I can't speak to Voyager--I just didn't see more than 4-5 episodes, and they bored me--but I rather liked the last season of Enterprise, and there were a few gems scattered throughout the other seasons as well.

I think it's neat that the New Voyages guys are doing what they're doing, but for the most part the shows make me feel awkward/ashamed.  Kinda like a good Office moment does, only not intentionally.

The riff, by the way, was hilarious.  Not really mean-spirited (making fun of the CHARACTERS and situation more than the actors, generally), but goddamn was it funny.

I don't know if I'd go so far as "better than the best", but aside from some amateurish performances, it's as good as any real Star Trek I've ever seen.  For a fan film, that's nothing short of amazing.
