"What's with this Greg guy? All he does is post 'best-of-something' games and talks to himself."

The Idea

This is not a list of crap. It's not a list of anything. It's a thing. It's a one thing. A movie. The best of them all, as decided by the forum members of Rifftrax.  I have two main reasons for doing this:

a) I think it will spark some fun debate with fellow movie lovers, and it will be interesting to see where the votes go.
and
b) I am always looking for new movies to watch, so considering there are so many people here who are movie fans and have excellent taste, I am sure I will find some new films to track down. Hopefully others will get something similar from this experiment.

How it Will Work

This will work very differently from my List of Craps. I am using suggestions from all of you (the 'nominations'), but not privately through the message system. Nope, you're posting your noominations out in the open. I'll then use the list of all the nominations for a preliminary voting round to achieve the top 64 video-films which will then be paired off. Then the real voting begins, and slowly but surely we will trim the list down to the final movie that will be deemed 'Greatest Movie Ever as nominated by the Rifftrax Forums.'

For the voting (after preliminary round) it is strongly encouraged that you take the two week window (before polling closes) to watch all movies presented. That way, the voting is more fair, and you'll also get the opportunity to see some movies you might not see on your own accord. Who knows, you may find a new favorite movie in the process!

The first round is when all the movies will be watched. Each week 4 new movies will be presented, and the previous 4 will be open for voting. The week after, the voting for that first week will be closed and a winner decided. It will look something like this:

Week 1: First group of movies presented.
Week 2: Second group presented, First group voting opens.
Week 3: Third group presented, Second group voting opens, First group voting closes.
Week 4: Fourth group presented, Third group voting opens, Second group voting closes.

and so on. I will also present as much information as possible about each movie, and maybe even some useless trivia.

Any other questions feel free to ask.

What You Need To Do

In this thread, post a list of your Top 10 Movies of all time. Any decade, any language, any genre. It doesn't matter. Just name the 10 movies you feel are your favorite 10. I hope a lot of you participate as it will make things much more interesting. I will compile the lists and preliminaries will begin.
The Deadline will be Monday, April 7th.

Guidelines:

1) Feature length films only please. Generally, a film is 'feature length' if it is 80 minutes or longer. I am sure there are some movies under that, but use your discretion. I'd say under 60 minutes would be a cut-off point.

2) Preferably, only list movies released to theaters or home video/dvd. No Made-for-TV-movies.

3) Other than that, it should be fair game. So get listin'~!

Note: Voting for something that has already been voted for will not count towards anything, so it's in your best interest to nominate 10 brand new movies

Let's begin many weeks of film nerd bitching!

NEW RULE: Once you've made your list, you cannot change your list. I will not keep track of every single movie you had in what spots. So if you go "Oh, I should have nominated Spiceworld instead of Platoon!" you cannot change your list, you can only try to convince other people to nominate it.

Not to be overly dramatic, but if fucking Star Wars ends up at the top of the list, I'll kill you all.

Thank you.  Smiley

P.S.  I'll work on my list in a bit.

Remember mrbasehart, "Anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering. This is the path of the dark side."

Greg, it might be wise to compose a "master list" that people can check against the lists they're making so they don't double up.
