Pop superstar Madonna wants to relaunch her acting career with a remake of 1942 classic 'Casablanca'. If you had said "Pop superstar Madonna wants to relaunch her acting career assimilate more foreign babies," I would have believed it.

Yeah but I thought, why not make this thread to post this Madonna to star in 'Casablanca' remake? 31/03/2008 - 9:18:14 AM
Why not? Pam Anderson had her own Casablanca remake. Not that it went all that well....WARNING: The above is a link to an Agony Booth recap. I know some people on this board dislike Agony Booth, so... fair warning.

So would Madonna be playing the Humphrey Bogart or the Peter Lorre role?

Knowing Madonna as I do, she would play Bogart's cigarette, and everything that entails. (Must... resist... Clinton... reference...)

Saying that Madonna would "play" anything infers that she can act....

Guys guys, you're not thinking about the true ramifications of Madonna being in this movie. It's far worse than her simply being in it playing a role. It's about her WRITING and SINGING a song that will be played during the ending credits!

Again....you're inferring that Madonna can write and sing....

Again....you're inferring that Madonna can write and sing.... Heavens no. Hence the hint of profound horror that I injected into my post. However, such things don't always translate well in text. To clarify: I'd rather watch Michael Bay remake every film classic in his own unique, explosive (literally) style than hear Madonna bleating (literally) over the ending credits.

Of all the effects budgets in all the sound stages in all the world, she walks into mine. Good concept on the April Fools joke, by the way.

Madonna writing and singing a song for the closing credits of her "Casablanca" remake isn't the worst thing imaginable. The real doomsday scenario is if she decides to cover "As Time Goes By". If you thought George Lucas retroactively ruining the original Star Wars trilogy (for some people) with his sequels was bad, imagine Madonna reaching back sixty-six years in cinema history and destroying all that is good and decent about "Casablanca". The world might never recover.
(And this from someone who thinks "Casablanca" was merely very good.)

I like Casablanca, but I don't put it on the pedestal that others do. I mostly like it as a product of its time and a snapshot of the world in which it was made. Same reason I like Errol Flynn's The Sea Hawk.

Not to be controversial, but if the only thing good and decent about your movie is one song that wasn't even written for the movie... it must not be a very good or decent movie. That's called Elfman's Law, I think.
