I don't consider myself a prude, but female costumes in comics have crossed the line into being completely impractical, to the point where belief can't be suspended.
Ladies, when considering your superheroine costumes, take this test:
1- Put on the costume.
2- In a private place, shake and jump violently for 3 minutes.
3- Check yourself in front of a mirror.
Are any of your private parts showing? If not, you should be able to fight crime in it. If so, expect to have several embarrassing photos of you at bad angles posted all over the internet.

To be fair, if the male comic book heroes of the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s were not apparently born without genitalia, we probably would have been exposed to pretty much the same thing, what with their costumes spray painted over their nude bodies with nothing in between and all...

Well, some artists actually DO include a package these days. Another reason I've quit comics. |

Plus, though the costumes are the same in many cases, the artist's grasp on reality vis-a-vi the physical properties of cloth has degraded.
What I mean is, where costumes used to occasionally stretch over the body's cracks and sharp curves, now they grip invasively into all of the wearer's nooks and crannies.

My guess is that they are just trying more and more to appeal to their target demographic - the love-starved male teen perv. And most of the artists used to be the same themselves. And with more and more comics, there's more and more competition for shelf space and audience, so they have to push more and more to keep their fans and get more share of the market.
It's like economics, but smutty.

LatinoReview had the chance to chat with the DC Comics President Paul Levits, who revealed that everyone is waiting for director Christopher Nolan to sign on for the third Batman movie. Once that happens, Warner Bros will know how to allign their other DC Comics' projects.
"Everyone is waiting for Nolan to sign on for another Batman, once that happens, the release date for Superman and all other future projects will follow," said Levits.
And regarding the Superman reboot... The studio is still moving forward and they want Brandon Routh in the lead. "Last week Brandon Routh has come around the offices in New York and Los Angeles as of late to talk about Superman and what we want to do," said Levits.
He also revealed that The Green Lantern movie is moving much faster than the Supermax film, which is about The Green Arrow being unjustly locked up in a federal penitentiary for meta-humans and forced to rely on a whole bevy of villains to make his escape.
The site forecasts that "The Green Lantern" will appear in theaters during the Summer of 2010, "The Dark Knight" sequel during the Summer of 2010 and the Superman reboot during the Summer of 2012.
