Well, I for one am sad. I liked Singer's movie a lot; it felt very true to Donner's, without the lame-ass 70s stuff (the first half of Donner's movie is utterly brilliant; the last half is mostly crap, and Superman 2, I've recently discovered, is almost unwatchable).

Plus, keep Kevin Smith away from Superman, please.

Guys, I'd just like to set a pretty basic fact straight on all this:
LEX LUTHOR IS THE ONLY VILLAIN THEY WILL EVER GIVE US.
ACCEPT IT.

And yeah, this film will suck.

you're good, you're very very very very very good

Quote
Fans have complained that Lex Luthor is not a strong enough villain to face off against Superman and that the man of steel needs to fight a more powerful evildoer in the "Superman Returns" sequel. Warner Bros agreed and has promised more action in the second installment, which they stated will be much darker. So why are they bringing Lex Luthor back?

According to The Independent, producers of the film will be paying Kevin Spacey "big bucks to reprise his role as Lex Luthor next year." It has been said that the sequel will begin shooting in 2009 to have the film ready by 2011.

Lex Luthor is the only Superman villain that EVERYBODY knows. People who don't read the comics can't name ANY other Superman villain. Hence, as Junkyard said, Lex is all we're EVER going to get.

yes and this time maybe make them a threat to the world.

All they seemed to do in Superman 2 is sit around and wait for Superman to come and stop them.

Don't get me wrong I love Superman 2 but after they take over the world no one seems to be any worse off.

Everybody knows Lex, but "Brainiac" is part of our damn vocabulary.
Look, can we just get a villain I don't feel the need to root for? Lex Luthor, whatever else he may be, is also the underdog, and that's where my sympathies gravitate.

Anyone fighting a demigod is the underdog.

Yeah, I'd really like anything other than Lex Luthor.  And Kevin Smith.

I mean, come on!  The studio isn't able to put 2 and 2 together and realize that the movie MIGHT make more money if it put Superman up against a villain he could actually FIGHT?

Given Smith's previous experience being hired to write a Superman flick, I'd imagine he'd be hesitant to be on board.

Good.  He can keep making juvenile movies about penis obsession that I don't have to see.

*Ahem*

I don't read the comics, not many of them anyway, but I can name at least five Superman Villains.

1. Parasite
2. Toyman
3. Solomon Grundy
4. Prankster
5. Mister Myxyzpyxlx

OK, I KNOW I horribly misspelled that last one, but I believe I've made my point that Luthor isn't the only well known Superman villain

Grundy IS technically a Green Lantern villain. Also, he's technically a walking compost zombie, so I'm not sure how compelling that would- what the?
