Guys, I'd just like to set a pretty basic fact straight on all this: LEX LUTHOR IS THE ONLY VILLAIN THEY WILL EVER GIVE US. ACCEPT IT.
And yeah, this film will suck.

what works for Batman will not work for Superman. They're completely different characters.
Yeah, because the last time they brought Superman and Batman together in a single show and gave them a homogonized treatment, it was a HUGE disaster that just dropped off the face of the earth and was never spoken of again. On the other hand, who the fuck cares about the next Superman movie? Superman Returns was a giant steaming pile. I have no interest whatsoever in seeing yet more of the same dreck. Unless they plan to go the way of The Incredible Hulk and reboot completely with no sign of the last version, it's a trashbin movie from the start. And as far as I'm concerned, even the re-rebooted Hulk was still pretty crappy. These people are giving comic book movies an even worse name than they already have.

I liked Superman Returns. Enough so that, though I didn't see it in the theaters, I would go to theaters to see the sequel.

oh, sorry, I thought I posted that already Anne Thompson of Variety reports that Warner Bros is currently trying to figure out what to do with the "Superman" franchise. The studio feels that the 2006 Bryan Singer-directed "Superman Returns" did not bring anything new to the table like Christopher Nolan's "Batman Begins" did.
Thompson is being told that it is a priority at Warner Bros to find the right direction for the franchise. Everyone feels fine with Bryan Singer participation on the project, but if he gets in the way, he may be pushed out.
At this point, the general feeling is that it is better to completely ignore Singer's movie. "It might be better to start from scratch," one executive admitted. What this means for Singer and Brandon Routh is yet to be seen. Emboldened by this summer's success with "The Dark Knight," Warner Bros is setting a new strategy, reports WSJ. Script problems and poor results have forced the studio to put several comic book adaptations on hold. Now, it is expected that Warner Bros will release four comic-book films in the next three years, including a third Batman film, a new reintroducing Superman, and two movies focusing on other DC Comics characters.
No too long ago, Warner Bros put on hold plans for "Batman vs. Superman" -- after the $215 million "Superman Returns," which had disappointing box-office returns, didn't please executives. "'Superman' didn't quite work as a film in the way that we wanted it to," says Warner Bros Pictures Group President Jeff Robinov. "It didn't position the character the way he needed to be positioned. Had 'Superman' worked in 2006, we would have had a movie for Christmas of this year or 2009. But now the plan is just to reintroduce Superman without regard to a Batman and Superman movie at all."
With "Batman vs. Superman" and "Justice League of America" stalled, Warner Bros has quietly adopted Marvel's model of releasing a single film for each character, and then using those movies and their sequels to build up to a multi-character film. "Along those lines, we have been developing every DC character that we own," Mr. Robinov says.
Like the recent Batman sequel -- which has become the highest-grossing film of the year thus far -- Mr. Robinov wants his next pack of superhero movies to be bathed in the same brooding tone as "The Dark Knight." Creatively, he sees exploring the evil side to characters as the key to unlocking some of Warner Bros' DC properties. "We're going to try to go dark to the extent that the characters allow it," he says. That goes for the company's Superman franchise as well. and then a response from filmmakers and comic book fans Last week, Warner Bros announced that they would be interested in rebooting the "Superman" franchise in favor of making it a bit more like "The Dark Knight." The idea is to make the next Superman movie more dark and gritty.
Many fans immediately pleaded their cases, but so did the filmmakers. MTV News caught up with writer Christopher Golden (Hellboy, Buffy) and writer/director Kevin Smith on some of their insights.
"How stupid is that?" exclaimed Golden. "That announcement made my head spin. 'Iron Man' isn't dark. 'Iron Man' worked because Favreau brought in all the best Iron Man creators and had them read the script and asked them, 'Tell me what we did wrong?' — and it worked because it had all the best things about Iron Man boiled down into the best movie they could make. 'The Dark Knight' was really good because it had all the best things about 'Batman' boiled down into the best movie they could make. Making a dark and gritty Superman movie because Dark Knight made a ton of money is incredibly stupid."
Smith is always great for an interesting take or an intelligent analysis. "You always have to always keep Superman very distinct from Batman," he explained. "Batman can be brooding and bleak and dark but Superman — if you want to take a realistic approach to him that's fine, but I don't think you can turn him into an angry character. Superman is about the hope in people, the good in people, whereas Batman is about the more driven, hungry for justice angry side of us. [So] I don't know if doing a dark Superman is the approach, but I'm all for a reboot."
But it was writer Steven T. Seagle who said it best. "'Dark?' 'Light?' Whatever. 'Good' is the main thing we're looking for when we plunk down our ten bucks." so yeah, it's a reboot

Oh Great!
Are we going to have to sit through Superman's origin again?
If this movie starts out on Krypton I am not going.
Superman the Movie is a classic and I don't need to sit through the first hour of the next movie being a repeat of it and Smallville.

Strangely enough, there are many people in this world who were born AFTER the original Superman was made. Some of them haven't even seen it! Crazy, I know. The point of a reboot is to get new people interested in the franchise who might not otherwise know much about it, to do things with the movie that couldn't be done originally due to technological limitations, or just as a cheap gimmick to make a quick buck. Usually a combination of all three in some regard. If there has to be another Superman movie, I'd much rather it be a reboot than a continuation of that ungodly piece of shit from last year.

I thought Superman Returns was okay, but I'd be all for a reboot. They were trying to copy the 80s Superman movies way too much and didn't go for any new ground (someone other than Luthor, for the love of God). I'd love to see a movie with Darkseid, Brainiac, hell, even Bizarro.

I'd have to agree with Kevin Smith's take, but I would point out that there are many ways you can make a Superman story darker without compromising the character.

Yeah, but you know the studio would want to make Superman into a badass just because it worked for Batman. And throw in some giant, robotic spiders. It's all about the copycat, same ol', same ol' these days for Hollywood. What worked once has to be able to work a million times over, right?

I am one of those people that was born after Superman the movie came out.
I first saw it on DvD 4 years ago and it is still my favorite Superhero movie of all time.
Also I really liked Superman Returns so i don't really like the idea of a reboot.
Also it sounds like they are going down the route they did in the 90s where they wanted Cage to play Superman, they wanted him in black with an S shield that turned into a knife, and they had him killing Leuthur in the end.
I think a lot of people will be begging to watch returns again after this comes out.
