Superman Returns 2

IESB reported earlier that director Bryan Singer has been working on the sequel to "Superman Returns" and that "Transformers" writers, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, will be writing the script. Today, Empire magazine got the chance to speak to Singer, who confirmed that work in under way on the new film.

"Yes, I'm just getting back with writers after the strike," said Singer. "We're just in the development phase. I'm starting to develop a sequel... with the intention of directing it."

He continued to talk about the fact that the first film had limited action. "The first one was a romantic film and a nostalgic film," he says. "I'll be the first person to own up to that without making any apologies for it. I knew it was going to be that from the outset. And now that the characters are established, there's really an opportunity to up the threat levels... Clearly there'll be a body count [laughs]. From frame one, it will be unrelenting terror! All those teenage girls who found the movie and mooned over James Marsden or Brandon? Well, I'm going to wake them up!"

that's right, the writers of everyone's favorite film Transformers, are going to be writing.

So, do you suppose we may end up seeing any ACTUAL ESTABLISHED DC SUPERVILLAINS THIS TIME?!!
The answer, obviously, is no. We'll be watching Lex Luthor camp it up, with no Brainiac, no Doomsday, no Wrecking Crew, no Darksied, no NOBODY. We of course will have to leave good Superman stories to Bruce Timm, and leave Jesus metaphors and creepy staring to Singer.

Honestly, are they ever going to make a Superman movie with a supervillain he actually stands a chance of losing against?  Besides General Zod.  I mean, they've been THINKING about making a movie based on the "Death of Superman" for years now.  Will they?  No.  Instead, they basically remade the first one.

That animated Death of Superman flick was lame IMO.  It carried little to none of the emotional weight that the comics did.  And considering that this is actually an animated cartoon as opposed to still panels, that's just sad. 

A live action version that actually sticks a bit closer to the comic book source material would rule.  I know it'll never happen though.

I enjoyed this version of the story more than the comics, personally.  The comics had every indication of publicity stunt all over them and they crammed so many characters into it that it was hard to keep track of.  Yes the death of Superman is a huge event and showing that it affected the whole of the DC universe was justified, but it was still sensory overload the way they pulled it off, also the return storyline was headache-inducing for me with all the various fake-Supermen showing up, fooling no one, some turning evil, by the end of reading it I was just glad to be done and able to move onto something else.

I then watched the dvd, liked it, and have watched it again since.  That's just me though.

I had never seen Superman kill anyone till that movie, that's what made it awesome for me, the cast helped too.

Sounds Great.

Superman Returns was my second favorite film of the live action Superhero movies,i would like to see where the story of Superman's son goes and I liked the fact that the first one almost wasn't a Superhero movie and it was mostly about people.

The high body count sound promising.  I don't see how they would get that with out Braniac or Doomsday,or one of the other Supervillains.  I don't think the studio would let this happen with out a bunch of action scene so i don't think anyone else has to worry.

I can't wait.

Ok another Superman movie, and I get that they wait tell the sequel to bring the action and use the first to set the characters up for the viewing audience (more money that way as well, because people will want to see the action in the 2nd one)...But that guy needs to be working on Transformers 2 as well!

You know, when I was watching Superman Returns I spent the whole movie hoping the super-kid was really Brainiac.  I mean, I just don't buy Superman having an illegitimate kid, not realizing it and then flying into space for five years?  I don't buy it!  Hulk?  Sure!  Iron Man?  I'd be surprised if he didn't!  But Superman?  That makes him either grossly irresponsible, stupid or a dick!
