If we're counting blu-rays, I got a set of 5 Xmas ones, plus the Grinch (cartoon) is on the way.

Star Trek on Blu Ray. I wanted to get the DVD, since I usually watch Rifftrax on my computer (no Blu Ray drive) and would like to try reauthoring at some point. But, the Blu Ray was cheaper for some reason, and since it has a digital copy included I figured why not. I can always just rent the dvd at some point if I really want to reauthor.

I just purchased UP and Star Trek on BluRay. Why in the blazes does the BluRay of UP have the DVD and digital copy?! That is just retarded. I bought the BluRay on purpose instead of the DVD, and I still think the dgital copies are the most worthless extra. Plus, it's 2 BluRays of movie and bonus material. Why does it need two disks if the BluRay has so much storage capacity?

Why in the blazes does the BluRay of UP have the DVD and digital copy?! Because they figured out that people want copies to put on digital devices. And rather than let them go on wanting and get frustrated enough to then learn to either rip their DVDs or or how to use bitTorrents, it's better in the long run to just give you the digital copy. It's the first time the movie and recording industry has poked their noses out of their caves and into the real world as it is....don't knock them for it.

The world as it was 3 or 4 years ago, maybe. They clutter the shit out of those "digital copies" with DRM, they're only playable on certain programs, etc. That is NOT what we want.

I own 1 Blu-ray player and 10+ machines that can handle DVDs. Your "this is completely worthless" is my "Yay, I can actually watch that movie and I get a Blu-ray copy with it to boot." The DVD/Blu-ray combo packs are brilliant because given the choice, I'm picking DVD over Blu 99% of the time. And with the combos, I don't have to.

I think getting the DVD as a bonus is nice since I can watch it on my computer or my portable player as well as just the BD player. But I still think the digital one is silly.

Well, first off..we don't think they'd REALLY ever give us what we want.... And I'm talking about those people who think that those digital copies are the best they can get...people who weren't already ripping and P2P'ing before digital devices were even around..... You go to those people and ask them what DRM is and they'll probably think it's a new rap artist.

They just don't seem very "user friendly" given the amount of hoops you have to jump through--I'd think anyone tech savvy enough to do that could rip and burn their own. But I take your point.

Well I like DCs because it is an easy way to get the movie on my computer and MP3 player(When i had one that would play video)all i have to do is enter the code and about 5 minutes latter i have the movie. it's easier then finding a program that will get past the copy protection on the DvD and then spending about two hours ripping the DvD to the hard drive and as far as i can tell we are not being charged extra for the DC so who care. Also all i can say is i wish every studio was fallowing Disney's lead and letting you buy the movie in every format you need in one box for $25 at the most. I don't know about you but right now i only have one Blu ray player in my house so having a movie on DvD too is good. Also Disney packs it's Blu Rays with extras and give you the best picture they can that's why there are two disc.

I'd give Disney more credit for "giving the people what they want" if this didn't come hot on the heels of their underhanded marketing of the Snow White Diamond Edition.
They released two versions, the "Blu-Ray + DVD" and the "DVD + Blu-Ray" -- with different packaging but identical content -- so that the same product would end up in the Blu-Ray and DVD sections of retail stores. The Blu-Ray is packed to the gills with special features, but the DVD has nothing except the typically dreadful Disney-Channel-Teenybopper-Ruins-a-Classic-Disney-Song-Video and yet another ad for the Princess and the Frog. The version of the DVD that actually has the bonus features is coming, but not until seven weeks after the Blu-Ray release date.
No doubt a lot of hapless DVD buyers bought a stripped-down product at double the cost, all so that Disney can inflate their number of Blu-Ray units shifted as evidence that the format is catching on.

Did the packaging claim that the disc had extras or a second disc? If so then yes what Disney did was fraud and someone should go to jail for it. If not then there wasn't anything underhanded about it,people got what it said they got on the box. The movie on DvD. Also the Blu Ray format is catching on they don't need to pull anything.

I don't recall the packaging being terribly clear on which features were on which format. Even so, not everybody spends five minutes studying the box before they buy a DVD, and after years of getting the big Disney DVD releases jam-packed with features, people have been trained to expect that. Hell, I almost fell for it myself... and I'm a super-genius!If they had only released a single package, clearly labeled as the Blu-ray + supplemental DVD, that would have been one thing. Releasing a second version, with different packaging that seemingly prioritizes the DVD version, is blatantly underhanded. Also the Blu Ray format is catching on they don't need to pull anything.
Obviously. No doubt Disney is only packaging DVDs along with their Blu-ray releases because they had extra discs lying around. Oh, and there's this. I'm sure he was probably just joking, though.
