And now, on with the countdown.

I think that's the only Batman animated movie from that "era" that I haven't seen yet.  The only time I ever see it on shelves is as a two pack with Mask of the Phantasm, which I already own.

The plot is decent enough (Mr. Freeze's next appearance on Batman: the Animated Series doesn't make a lot of sense without it), but be warned: the occasional use of CG in this movie is very obtrusive.

Yes. I second this review.

I still have yet to see even a lukewarm review of this. I'm watching Spidey 3 tonight and There Will Be Blood tomorrow, but I'm anticipating deep pain from this when I watch it...

Picked up There Will Be Blood, No Country For Old Men, and the 2 disc set for Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story.

(singing)one of these things...aren't like the others.....

Just finished watching There Will Be Blood. Thought it dragged a little in places, but that was a great performance by Daniel Day-Lewis. Loved it.

Gonna try and watch No Country next.

I'm surprised that so many people buy DVDs for movies that they've never even seen before. Especially brand new releases. I guess i could understand if you got a great deal or something. But i don't think i'd ever buy a new DVD for about fifteen bucks and just cross my fingers hoping it's great.

Then again... i buy stuff like The Gingerdead Man, so who am i to judge?  Cheesy

The reason I buy DVD's to flicks I never saw in theaters is because I rarely go to theaters anymore. I used to love to go to movie theaters, and then some bastard has to go and invent the cell phone. And if it's not the idiot's with the cell phone screwing up the experience, it's the idiots without cell phones screwing up the experience, from the people who just can't shut the hell up, to the people that don't even want to be there, but got dragged there by their significant other, and all you hear for the entire flick from these jerks is "pffft", or 'meh", or "shyeah, right". It's as if since the moment the cellphone was invented, people just forgot how to behave themselves in movie theaters.

I remember when I went to see Underworld at one of our local multiplexes. Two minutes in, an entire group of people got up and left the theater, talking loudly on their phones (they could suspend their disbelief for vamps and werewolves, but not for the fact that the lead character's name was SELENE.). Then, a few minutes later, the SAME group would walk back into Underworld, and I swear to you, one of the dipshits was telling someone on his phone, "Yeah we just went across the hall to check out The Fighting Temptations, that movie sucks, too".

I've only been to the theater once this year, and that was to see Cloverfield. Just as the movie's starting, some silly broad starts giggling and cursing, and just when I was about to get up and say something, SIX other people got up and told her to STFU. Made the Cloverfield induced nausea worth it.

I'm totally with you, OTC316.  Completely.  But, what about something like netflix?  My DVD buying has plummeted since I joined a couple years ago, and now I really only buy the flicks that I love.

Which reminds me, I gotta buy No Country one of these days.  I think I'll grab it when I go pick up Cloverfield next week.

Honestly? $9 for a ticket. $3 for popcorn. Another $3 for a coke. I'm spending $15 in the theaters too, and that's for only 1 viewing. With the disc, I can watch it when I want in the comfort of my home. Plus, generally by the time the DVD is released, it's three months later so there's a much better consensus as to the film's quality, which makes it less likely to catch a stinker. And if I do... Well, I can toss it on ebay and get some of my cash back. And for the mariginal stuff, my price point is $10, which generally takes another month or two. These days, for the $20 releases, I'll just Netflix it.

Plus, as a childless adult male, if I go to see a Disney film by myself in the theater, I get about 90 minutes of concerned parents staring at me and ushers walking by every five minutes, which doesn't really make for a good viewing experience.

I usually just sneak in something homemade when I go to the movies.

I fully endorse breaking the cinema rules.

I download movies, but I have a rule.

If I like the movie, I put it on a list, and if I get money for my birthday or something I go out and buy it.
If I don't, then I delete it and it gradually fades from my memory

Personally, I love the theater experience. Love, love, love it. A theater with comfy chairs, digital projection, and a killer sound system is my idea of heaven. (Alamo Drafthouse ftw). I hate that the theater is dying, but I'll admit that it seems theaters are trying as hard as they possibly can to kill themselves. Unreasonable prices for the movie and the food (paying more than a dollar for a coke and a dollar for a bag of popcorn is robbery of the highest order- especially when you consider the horrible quality), usually disgusting floors, cell phones going off, not taking care of rude assholes... it's sad. But I still prefer theaters to DVDs- when in the theater, the movie is projected, seen, and heard as it's intended. Larger-than-life image, massive sound- summer blockbusters and particularly giant monster movies (Godzilla in general, more recently Cloverfield- which I saw 4 times in theaters) are absolutely not the same. And when you've got a theater full of people watching and reacting communally to an effective flick- it enhances the experience in a way home viewing can't.

Of course, when I'm rich and have a big room dedicated entirely to being a personal theater with my own digital projector, massive surround system, and popcorn with actual butter, I may change my tune.

That said, the last 3 times I tried buying a new release DVD cold- Dog Bite Dog, Shinobi, and Justice League: The New Frontier, the results were so un-spectacular I decided not to do it anymore. (for the record: Dog Bite Dog could have been great if not for some retarded super-melodrama, Shinobi is boring, and JL:TNF is massively disappointing in spite of the fact that it opens with someone blowing their brains out).

Don't get me wrong, I've had some good experiences in the theater, and honestly, I can only think of four that truly stand out.

One was Kung Fu Hustle. Very fun movie. Went on a Tuesday (saw Hitchhiker's Guide earlier that night), I was the only one in the theater! Had the whole joint to myself. The complete lack of distractions let me lose myself in the film (Landlady FTW!).

The other three, Raiders of the Lost Ark, From Dusk 'til Dawn, & Grindhouse, were the only true communal experiences I've had in theaters. Everyone in the audience wanted to be there, and everyone behaved themselves and just watched the damn movie.

Man, I just remembered. When I was in high school, I went to a matinee of Running Scared (You will believe Billy Crystal is an action hero!). Again, I was by myself, and 20 minutes in, another viewer walks in and sits down. A few minutes later, this complete stranger comes up to me and asks me what he missed!  Priceless.
