And everyone is shocked by the Ortiz & Manny on PED's in 03 report... wait, no they aren't.

I guess I am shocked by Ortiz making all those comments in spring training about how players should get a year ban and how he would never do that..... knowing full well that he tested positive in 2003 and his name could be leaked.    I really dont care about that anymore..... as long as they are cleaing up their act now that is.

Let us see, last night in the 15th inning, Pujols is up with men on first and second, two outs, and the Dodgers pitch to him because Matt Holliday is on deck.    THAT is why we traded for Holliday!

The full quote on that did say something along the lines of "the past is the past" and how he feels that should be what happens from the time he said it going forward.  So he did kinda leave it vague about his past.

On a trade related note, looks like the Sox might be getting Victor Martinez.  And supposedly the asking price on Adrian Gonzalez was more than what was being asked for to get Halladay?  Wow, really San Diego? I guess I can't blame you for trying, but still...

I love all the fun as the trade deadline winds down.

I also love this comment from a St. Louis sports writer, "It would not be a pennant race between the Cardinals and Cubs without the Pirates giving the Cubs players".

MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo says (via Twitter) pitchers Nick Hagadone and Justin Masterson are in the deal.

Well...we got Orlando Cabrera.  That's alright, I guess.  It's not like we have a whole lot of prospects to give up for the big name pitchers.  This is pretty much all we could do without clearing our farm system of everyone worthwhile.

I'm not reporting to St. Louis! Cheesy

*untucks jersey*

Oh and Theo, just give in and trade Buchholz already! It's beyond annoying now.

Seriously.  It's annoying listening to sports talk out here.

I'm tried of reading on how he's untouchable in EVERY trade proposal, and how horribly others butcher his last name!

Yes, he has the no-hitter, against the Orioles AAA squad, in September of '07, has sported some nice numbers at Pawtucket, but I just don't see anyway he's going to meet the expectations that have been branded onto him. A start would be developing better control . Wink

But seriously, is Theo trigger-shy because of the player Hanley Ramirez has become? That trade was a win-win for both organizations. I'd hedge a guess that has something to do w/ the handling of Buchholz.

I love all the fun as the trade deadline winds down.

This one has been one of the great ones in recent memory.

Hey, we got Claudio Vargas back! Alright, commence the 4+ hour games!! We're so cooked. Unsurprisingly, Halladay didn't go anywhere. I was reading late last night that the Rangers were heavy in the mix (which makes sense w/ their very deep farm but then not so much w/ their financial issues), and Riccardi wanted Smoak AND Feliz along w/ 3 more blue chips. I was so happy Philly pulled the trigger on the Lee trade, and took away the very large player for Doc from the table. Kudos! I believe Riccardi really needed to do it as he's gone at the end of the year, but what he was asking for was outrageous. Bring Keith Law back to Toronto and give him the keys!

Tomorrow night is still Victor Martinez bobblehead night in Cleveland.

I read that on Wednesday and feel awful for Tribe-fan right now. They were none too happy following the Lee trade...

http://www.cleveland.com/tribe/index.ssf/2009/07/fans_reaction.html

...and now the V-Mart trade with the subsequent bobblehead day.

What really shocked me about the V-Mart trade was the lack of talk between the Tribe & the Giants. The Giants gave the Buckos Alderson for Sanchez, straight-up. Why the Giants didn't talk to Shapiro and toss Shapiro the Alderson-bone is beyond me. The Giants place Martinez at 1st, Molina finsihes the year at C, and Posey is the starting C in '10 while V-Mart is the opening day 1B. But again, more empirical evidence on why Sabean is awful when it comes to the workings of trades AND free agency. He's awful.

Well...we got Orlando Cabrera.  That's alright, I guess.  It's not like we have a whole lot of prospects to give up for the big name pitchers.  This is pretty much all we could do without clearing our farm system of everyone worthwhile.

You've the White Sox '08 starting left-side of the infield!  Smiley

The Buckos got the better end of the deal this go-around. Smiley

+ 2 for the Redbirds

There's a big trade possibly brewing here. From what I understand, we've two trades lined up for a front-line starter w/ the latter trade being the fallback if the first one doesn't follow through. I'm wagering we're making our move for Peavy.

Does anyone else remember this? In the wake of the Peavy trade today, it's been confirmed he would've been a Brewer if he didn't injure his ankle. Jake did okay it, and talk about changing the complexion of the Central for a few years w/ a Peavy/Gallardo duo heading the rotation w/ our offense. But oh well, I like Axelrod's response to the trade...

Frankly I am flabbergasted that the White Sox would want to make this deal with him in his physical condition.

Kenny Williams, you're crazy! Smiley

TeamRAD, I checked with the union and you have to report to STL...... and those boys keep their shirts tucked in after a win.    So straighten up and fly right.

I am puzzled why the Reds felt compelled to trade for Scott Rolen.    Perhaps they really wanted to nail down fifth place

What do you think this is? The NBA?

The trend of NBA players refusing to show up to the team they're traded to really pisses me off.  Grow a set you overpaid babies.

Watched Sportscenter this morning and they showed the Pirates and Indians jumping up and down and celebrating a win like they just won the world series.    Hilarious.    If they actually won any big games they would all probably need oxygen.

I'm a Twins fan and have been following them all year - but I am really starting to hate the team this year.
They have no intensity or passion this year.  I've seen way too many games where they either don't show up to play or get a lead and stop trying (The game they lost in Oakland when they had a 10 run lead being the biggest example).  They just doesn't care about winning (despite what Mauer and Morneau may have said in the press).

With the way the team has been playing this year, combined with the fact they haven't made the playoffs since 06, its time to find a new manager.

With the way our pitchers are playing, it won't matter WHO we have as our skipper.  It's their fault (and the front office's fault), not his.  You can talk about "intensity" and "intangibles" until the cows come home, but the bottom line is that the game comes down to pitching, and we don't have it.  It's a personnel problem.  We also have a paper-thin crop of prospects, so we can't count on help coming from our minor league affiliates.

I mean, do the math, people.  The last time we made the playoffs was when we had Santana.  Is it really that hard to figure out?

We need to resolve pitching during the offseason - we don't have enough to trade to do it now.  Find a free agent and sign him, whatever the cost.

While I agree the pitching has been terrible of late its not the only problem.  They just are not the same kind of team as in years past.  It may be "intangibles", but when it feels like the team doesn't care then something has gone very wrong and that starts with the manager.  The players have either stopped listening to him or he's lost interest in the game, either way he needs to go.
