know what i hate? when im watching the simpsons and i see an ad for other fox shows like king of the hill! man i hate that!  Undecided
You don't have to pay to see the Simpsons.  This is more like if you needed a special TV to watch the Simpsons episodes that you paid for, and the TV itself had ads on it.

And yes, if I did pay for a Simsons DVD, I would be annoyed if it contained advertisements for King of the Hill during the episodes.

Except you don't "need" the player and you don't even see the ads when your watching a film.  And the ads are for the thing you need to buy to use the player anyway, it's not like it's for something completely unrelated.

Well what about if it contained adverts for the Simpsons movie that play every time you put in the disc...because the latest seasons do.

I am not a fan of advertisements on DVDs either, but that is irrelevant to the discussion at hand.

Why'd you bring it up then?

Here's the way we thought of it when we created the player:  If you're a hard core fan who reauthors your own DVDs and owns every movie we've released, there's a good chance you are up to date on the upcoming and latest releases.  There's also a good chance that you don't want/need the player.

However, someone who may not have given RiffTrax a chance because of the perceived difficulty of the process also probably doesn't check the page daily to see what the latest release are.  Since the player is an ideal solution for this user, seeing the latest releases presented in an unobtrusive manner when you start the player that GOES AWAY when you actually watch the movie, would be a good way of learning about the latest releases.

You cannot expect to please people all the time.  I believe that most reasonable people will not be bothered by the ads whatsoever.  If you're looking for something to get upset about, though, they will probably present an ideal target for you.

Umm... do you mean why did you bring it up?

Great, I guess I should just stop posting feedback then, since I can't try make a point without being insulted by an admin.  Why do you even have a feedback board?

Don't be so sensitive.  The point's been made that if you watch a movie in full screen mode (and why wouldn't you?) you won't even see the advertising.

RiffTrax is a small company.  The advertising serves a purpose without being too intrusive.  I'd say that's an adequate compromise.

Or you could engineer your own dvd-Rifftrax software sans the ads.

I think they should stop calling it a RiffTrax player, because I am sick of all the corporate sponsorship.  We've got "Invesco" field, "RCA" dome, "At&T" ballpark, and now "RiffTrax" player.   How shameless can you get?!?!?!    And why is this the "RiffTrax" round table anyway?  Do you think all we talk about is RiffTrax?  No, there are general discussions too.   Why can't you go with "The General Category, Latest news & announcements, and completely voluntary RiffTrax Discussion  Round Table". You paid for the RiffTrax, and indeed, it contained no advertising.  You paid bupkus for the RiffTrax Player, so it seems a bit silly to begrudge them throwing in a couple of plugs for recent releases.

I'm no great fan of advertising either, but complaining about something so piddling makes you out to be either a bit of a nut, or just looking for things to gripe about.  Considering that 15 of your 17 posts basically consist of you bellyaching about something, I'm inclined to believe the latter.

I think you'd be less likely to recieve hostile language if you didn't start out with such a bellicose tone (greedy and tacky sound like insulting words to me)

You call it complaining, I call it providing feedback about a business practice I don't agree about.  I don't post here casually, but I do like to submit feedback about things I don't like and I think they could improve upon.

I am insulting a business practice I don't agree with, and they are insulting a paying customer trying to provide feedback.  I agree that maybe I went overboard, but my previous two suggestions were shot down immediately, and I was feeling kinda annoyed by that and the harsh tone included in the FAQ ("If the advertising that does not display in Full Screen mode of the Free RiffTrax Player really bothers you, please contact us and we will develop a Paid version of the Player that does not contain ads").  I feel that a specialty program, designed by the company that I am already paying for content, whose sole purpose is to make viewing that content easier, should be free of advertising and cost.

I apologize for the wording (even though that is how I feel about the advertising).

Here is an idea to keep dev costs down:  Open source the player.  Let the community do the work for you.

Your tone is what's caused the reaction you've gotten.  Negative feedback doesn't require negativity.

Their tone in the FAQ prompted my tone here.  It is a vicious cycle.

I gotta admit... you do have a point.  The FAQ entry does seem a little snarky towards those they hope will purchase their products.
